Stickers | Multifandom (see below)
~November 1 - 3, 2024
Nov 1 - Printing + Laminating
Nov 2/3 - Cutting
Nov 3 - More Laminating + Cutting
Printer Ink + Matte Vinyl on Sticker Paper
Stickers I made for Anifest. The final end to this long sticker journey!
There are 20 total designs:
Beetlejuice | Sandworm
Hellboy | Angel of Death, Hellboy
Alien | Xenomorph
Pan's Labyrinth | The Pale Man
Hollow Knight | Grimm, The Knight
Omori | Basil, Omori, Something
Arcane | Jinx
Hazbin Hotel | Alastor, Lucifer, Alastor's Minions, Husk
Hades | Zagreus
Coraline | Coraline Doll, Cocoa Beetle
The Amazing Digital Circus | Pomni, Jax, Gangle
I wanted to print the stickers on my mother's colour printer, but the colours and the black were slightly offset so I used my uni's printer service.
Applying the vinyl was tricky (messed up a few times), but once I learned the tricks it went by pretty smoothly. I did half of the vinyl application in the makerspace, and the other half at home on the 3rd.
I also wanted to use the makerspace's silhouette cutter thing to cut out the stickers, but I didn't know you had to run the paper through that machine before printing out the sticker design for it to work. Thus began the saga of cutting them out by hand.
Cutting it wasn't tooooo bad. It was just monotonous work so I could talk w people/watch something while doing it (watched Terrifier with my family while cutting most of them which worked because I don't really looking at pure gore). It did make my hand hurt like a bitch after a while, though.
I only ended up cutting like half of them anyways. My plan was to cut them by demand if needed during the artist alley.
There were quite a few defects by the end (mainly because of the vinyl, but there was a printing error for one of the sheets), and I ended up putting those stickers on my waterbottle. Me and my friend also tested their waterproof-ability by scrubbing at said stickers on my waterbottle with a soapy sponge. Needless to say the vinyl works really well!!

Halftones
Half tones aren't just for printing: You can use half tones in drawing with a pen or pencil, like with dots or crosshatching, to create shades between black and white.
Half tones don't have to be CMYK: Half tones aren’t always linked to CMYK colors. Artists often use specific colors (like green or yellow) instead of CMYK when painting.
Half tones in different printers: Half tones are used in both offset printing and inkjet printers. In offset printing, the dots change in size, but in inkjet printers, they stay the same size and just spread apart more or less.
Half tones aren't just for machines: Half tones can also be used by hand printers, and they have more flexibility to use them creatively compared to machine printers.
Half tones can be more than dots: Half tones aren’t always dots. They can be other shapes like lines, squares, or crosses, depending on the effect the printer wants to create.

For businesses in Jaipur, NavPack & Print, a trusted name in Offset & Digital Printing Services, ensures premium-quality results tailored to your needs. Why is Print Quality Important?

Your printed materials are often the first point of contact between your business and potential customers. 3. Boosts Customer Engagement
Well-designed and high-quality print materials grab attention and hold interest. From a glossy brochure to a well-printed flyer, the feel, look, and finish of your materials can make a difference in engaging your audience.

Collage and sewing experiments 16/11/24
Materials:
Coloured pen
Coloured thread
Fabric scrap
Magazine paper
.............................
Here is where I am beginning to really think about imagery and composition using collage. Stripping back layers to selecting very intentional pieces of magazine contents. These select images are then assembled purposefully onto a plain, white piece of paper.
I decided to keep the cartridge paper white to show the contrast between the paper - in its purest form (white) - and the magazine cut outs which have been crafted and produced in a completely differing process.
It was within my placement for I + E where I was shown how to do basic embroidery techniques. I spent hours embroidering a square piece of calico. This gave me the knowledge and idea to turn to sewing onto my already made collages. Thus furthering the process and evolution of the craft.
Again, the possibilities are endless in patterns that can be achieved with thread.
In the future I would like to further this process by creating collages on and with fabric to then be embroidered or sewed upon.
[Magazine Paper]
'Magazine papers are made on paper machines from pulp. The pulp may be recycled, mechanical or chemical depending on the magazine quality.'
,Lithographic printing is commonly used for mass-production printing. It involves printing plates made from aluminium which hold an image of the content to be printed. These plates are 'offset' onto rollers or blankets and then transferred onto the magazine paper.'
[Cartridge Paper]
'Cartridge papers are made from either cotton or woodfree cellulose, can be any colour from white – cream, and tends to have a slight texture.'
'The paper stock is spread over a mesh conveyor belt which removes the water from the fibres with a vacuum. It is then pressed through large heated rollers to squeeze out even more moisture.'

What Makes a Printing Shop in Australia Stand Out for Quality and Service?
In a world where first impressions count, the quality of printed materials can make a significant impact on your business. Whether you need business cards, brochures, posters, or banners, choosing the right printing shop is crucial. In Australia, the printing industry is highly competitive, with numerous shops vying for your business. But what truly sets a printing shop apart in terms of quality and service? Let's explore the key factors that distinguish top-tier printing shops in Australia.
Advanced Printing Technology
A leading printing shop in Australia will invest in the latest printing technology. This includes state-of-the-art digital printers, offset printing machines, and large format printers. Advanced technology ensures high-resolution prints, vibrant colours, and sharp details. It also allows for a wider range of printing options, including various paper types, finishes, and sizes. Shops that keep up with technological advancements can offer superior quality and more customization options to their clients.
Experienced and Skilled Staff
The expertise of the staff is a critical factor in delivering quality prints. Experienced printers and graphic designers can provide valuable insights and recommendations to improve your print projects. They understand the nuances of colour management, paper selection, and print finishing techniques. A knowledgeable team can help you achieve the best possible results, whether it's through advising on the right materials or suggesting design adjustments.
Comprehensive Services
A standout printing shop offers a comprehensive range of services to meet diverse client needs. This includes not only standard printing services but also additional offerings such as graphic design, binding, lamination, and mailing services. Being a one-stop-shop means you can handle all aspects of your project in one place, ensuring consistency and saving time. Comprehensive service offerings also demonstrate the shop's commitment to accommodating various client requirements.
High-Quality Materials
The quality of materials used in printing significantly affects the final product. Top printing shops in Australia source high-quality paper, inks, and finishes. They offer a variety of options, including eco-friendly materials for environmentally conscious clients. By providing superior materials, these shops ensure that the printed items are durable, visually appealing, and professional-looking.
Customization and Flexibility
Customization is key to meeting specific client needs. Leading printing shops offer flexible solutions tailored to individual projects. Whether you need a small print run of personalized invitations or a large batch of promotional materials, the ability to customize and scale services to your needs is essential. Flexibility also extends to turnaround times, with the best shops offering expedited services for urgent projects without compromising on quality.
Excellent Customer Service
Outstanding customer service sets the best printing shops apart. From the initial consultation to the final delivery, top shops prioritize clear communication, responsiveness, and a client-focused approach. They take the time to understand your requirements, offer transparent pricing, and keep you informed throughout the process. Excellent customer service fosters long-term relationships and repeat business, as clients appreciate the reliability and personal attention.
Attention to Detail
Attention to detail is crucial in printing. A reputable printing shop will have rigorous quality control processes to catch and correct errors before the final print. This includes checking for colour accuracy, alignment, and print clarity. Attention to detail ensures that the final product meets the highest standards and aligns with the client's vision.
Positive Reviews and Reputation
A strong reputation and positive customer reviews are indicators of a reliable printing shop. Look for shops with high ratings on review platforms and testimonials from satisfied clients. Word-of-mouth recommendations and a solid online presence reflect the shop's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Competitive Pricing
While quality should never be compromised, competitive pricing is also important. The best printing shops offer transparent and fair pricing structures. They provide detailed quotes upfront, with no hidden fees, and offer value for money. Bulk discounts, loyalty programs, and special promotions can also enhance the overall value proposition.
Environmental Responsibility
Sustainability is increasingly important to clients and businesses alike. Leading printing shops in Australia adopt environmentally responsible practices, such as using recycled paper, eco-friendly inks, and energy-efficient equipment. They may also offer options for carbon-neutral printing and participate in recycling programs. Demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship not only appeals to eco-conscious clients but also reflects the shop's broader values and responsibilities.
Case Study: Printwise Australia
Printwise Australia exemplifies what makes a printing shop stand out. With over 20 years of experience, Printwise combines advanced technology, skilled staff, and a wide range of services to deliver exceptional print solutions. Their reputation for quality and reliability is reflected in glowing customer reviews and a strong online presence.
Conclusion
Choosing a printing shop in Australia that stands out for quality and service involves looking at several factors. Advanced technology, experienced staff, comprehensive services, high-quality materials, customization options, excellent customer service, attention to detail, a solid reputation, competitive pricing, and environmental responsibility all contribute to a superior printing experience. By prioritizing these elements, you can ensure your printed materials make a lasting impression and effectively represent your brand.

The sheets are then bent to shape. By about 1850, Great Britain had become the dominant world supplier of tin plate, through a combination of technical innovation and political control over most of the suppliers of tin ore.
The breakthrough in decorative tin plate production was the invention of the offset lithographic process. It consists of bringing a sheet of rubber into contact with the decorated stone, and then setting-off the impression so obtained upon the metal surface. The advantages over previous methods of printing were that any number of colours could be used, correctly positioned, and applied to an uneven surface if necessary. Thus the elaborately embossed, colourful designs that were such a feature of the late Victorian biscuit tin industry became technically possible.
The introduction of the baking of processed cereals, including the creation of flour, provided a more reliable source of food. Egyptian sailors carried a flat, brittle loaf of millet bread called dhourra cake while the Romans had a biscuit called  Roman cookbook Apicius describes: “a thick paste of fine wheat flour was boiled and spread out on a plate. When it had dried and hardened, it was cut up and then fried until crisp, then served with honey and pepper.” Many early physicians believed that most medicinal problems were associated with digestion. Hence, for both sustenance and avoidance of illness, a daily consumption of a biscuit was considered good for health. Hard biscuits soften as they age. To solve this problem, early bakers attempted to create the hardest biscuit possible. Because it is so hard and dry, if properly stored and transported, navies’ hardtack will survive rough handling and high temperature. Baked hard, it can be kept without spoiling for years as long as it is kept dry. For long voyages, hardtack was baked four times, rather than the more common two.[12] To soften hardtack for eating, it was often dunked in brine, coffee, or some other liquid or cooked into a skillet meal. The collection Sayings of the Desert Fathers mentions that Anthony the Great (who lived in the 4th century AD) ate biscuits and the text implies that it was a popular food among monks of the time and region  At the time of the Spanish Armada in 1588, the daily allowance on board a Royal Navy ship was one pound of biscuit plus one gallon of beer. Samuel Pepys in 1667 first regularised naval victualling with varied and nutritious rations. Royal Navy hardtack during Queen Victoria‘s reign was made by machine at the Royal Clarence Victualling Yard at Gosport, Hampshire, stamped with the Queen’s mark and the number of the oven in which they were baked. When machinery was introduced into the process the dough was thoroughly mixed and rolled into sheets about 2 yards (1.8 m) long and 1 yard (0.9 m) wide which were stamped in one stroke into about sixty hexagonal-shaped biscuits. This left the sheets sufficiently coherent to be placed in the oven in one piece and when baked they were easy to separate. The hexagonal shape rather than traditional circular biscuits meant a saving in material and was easier to pack.[14] Biscuits remained an important part of the Royal Navy sailor’s diet until the introduction of canned foods. Canned meat was first marketed in 1814; preserved beef in tins was officially added to Royal Navy rations in 184. Early biscuits were hard, dry, and unsweetened. They were most often cooked after bread, in a cooling bakers’ oven; they were a cheap form of sustenance for the poor. By the 7th century AD, cooks of the Persian empire had learnt from their forebears the techniques of lightening and enriching bread-based mixtures with eggs, butter, and cream, and sweetening them with fruit and honey.[4] One of the earliest spiced biscuits was gingerbread, in French, pain  meaning “spice bread”, brought to Europe in 992 by the Armenian monk Grégoire de Nicopolis. He left Nicopolis Pompeii, of Lesser Armenia to live in Bondaroy, France, near the town of Pithiviers.

A Comparative Analysis for Variable Data Printing vs. Traditional Printing
The printing industry has seen significant advancements over the years, particularly with the introduction of variable data printing (VDP). This technology allows for the printing of individualized information on each sheet, such as alphanumeric characters, addresses, barcodes, QR codes, and logos.
What is Variable Data Printing?
Variable data printing (VDP) involves printing unique data on each sheet, which is crucial for applications requiring personalized information. This technology supports high-speed printing on various substrates like Colour Wove, Maplitho, Art Paper, Duplex Board up to 350 gsm, and NCR Sheet. The Autoprint Reckoner VDP65 is an example of a machine that leverages HP Inkjet Technology to offer efficient numbering, barcoding, mail addressing, and online perforation.
Traditional Printing
Traditional printing methods, such as offset and digital printing, produce identical copies of a print job. These methods are cost-effective for large volumes of the same print material but do not offer the flexibility of VDP. Traditional printing is best suited for mass production where the content remains consistent across all copies.
Advantages of Variable Data Printing
1. Personalization: VDP allows for the customization of each printed piece, making it ideal for direct mail, marketing materials, and personalized invitations.
2. Efficiency: By printing variable information directly, VDP eliminates the need for pre-printed stock and separate personalization steps, reducing production time.
3. Cost-Effectiveness: Although the initial setup cost may be higher, VDP can be more cost-effective in the long run by reducing waste and inventory costs.
4. Versatility: VDP can be applied to various substrates and formats, offering flexibility for different applications.
Autoprint Reckoner VDP65
The Autoprint Reckoner VDP65 is an offline sheetfed variable data printing machine using HP Inkjet Technology. It is designed for high-speed, accurate printing of variable data such as numbers, barcodes, and addresses. As an authorized oil-free air compressor dealer, AS Equipment ensures that customers receive top-quality products along with exceptional support and service, maximizing the performance and reliability of their compressed air systems.
Batch Coding Systems
A batch coding system is crucial for marking products with unique codes or batch numbers, ensuring traceability throughout the supply chain. These systems are vital for industries like food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, where product safety and quality are paramount. Batch coding can be integrated with VDP machines to streamline processes and ensure accurate, consistent coding.
Steps Involved in Batch Coding
1. Prepare the Design: Create the design for the batch code, including relevant information such as the date of manufacture and product batch number.
2. Set Up the Machine: Calibrate the batch coding machine and load the necessary ink or ribbon.
3. Load the Product: Position the product or packaging correctly on the machine’s conveyor.
4. Set Parameters: Configure printing speed, number of copies, and other settings.
5. Start Coding: Activate the machine to print the batch code.
6. Verify Codes: Check the printed codes for accuracy and legibility.
Both variable data printing and traditional printing have their unique advantages and are suited to different applications. VDP offers unparalleled flexibility and efficiency for personalized printing needs, while traditional printing remains the best choice for large-scale, uniform print jobs. By understanding the strengths of each method, businesses can choose the right technology to optimize their production processes. For high-quality VDP solutions, the Autoprint Reckoner VDP65 stands out as a reliable choice, supported by AS Equipment’s excellent service as an authorized dealer.
