Bespoke Pedestal Table with Tapered Edge
This is a handmade pedestal table made from solid hardwood finished in Omso Polyx. The round top and been tapered on the underside to the edge that give the table a fine and delicate profile and very light look. The centre column is turned from a solid piece of Oak and the base is a thick 40+mm and tapered to mirror the table top (the base is 10-20cm smaller diameter than the top depending top size and height).
The piece will made in three sections, top, post and base to reduce chance of damage and freight costs. The images are from the construction and will be adding images of the finished piece soon.
The aim with this piece is to produce a simple, clean and delicate design that is a very functional piece but with a minimal appearance. It is available in many diameter and height and can be used as a side table, display table, coffee table and much more.
Like all the pieces I make it has been made by hand to order (we hold no stock). They are made with traditional tools, hand planed and cabinet scraped to create a smooth surface. The timber natural features vary in each piece of timber which in turn makes each piece individual and unique.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Museum of The History of France, Palace of Versailles, Paris, France
Louis XV

Until he reached maturity (then defined as his 13th birthday) in 1723, the kingdom was ruled by his grand-uncle Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, as Regent of France. Allegory of Grammar
Artist: Laurent de La Hyre (French, 1606–1656)
Date: 1650
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: National Gallery, London, United Kingdom
Description
This painting is one of a series depicting the Seven Liberal Arts, which represent disciplines associated with learning and language – grammar, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, music, geometry and astronomy – as half-length figures of women. Grammar is shown as a woman watering plants, conveying the idea that young minds need encouragement to develop and grow. The Latin inscription on the scroll can be translated as ‘A meaningful and literate word spoken in the correct manner’.
La Hyre’s figure imitates classical sculpture: her drapery appears solid and is arranged in crisp, overlapping folds. Further references to the classical age can be seen in the column and ornate urn.
La Hyre was probably inspired by Cesare Ripa’s Iconologia, an illustrated dictionary in which ideas were represented through images of people. The French edition was published in 1644, about five years before the artist began his series.

Virgil Reading the 'Aeneid' to Augustus, Octavia and Livia
Artist: Jean Baptiste Joseph Wicar (French, 1762–1834)
Date: 1790-1793
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, United States
Description
In the late 18th century, the French Academy promoted a severely Classical approach to history painting as a means to regenerate art -and in contrast to the perceived decadence of the Rococo style. Jacques-Louis David and his students were leading exponents of this Neoclassical approach, treating antique subjects as moral exemplars for contemporary audiences. Here, David’s student Jean-Baptiste Wicar depicted the response of the Roman emperor Augustus and his family to Virgil’s reading of his epic poem the Aeneid, which tells the story of Aeneas, the Trojan prince who settled in Latium after many adventures and was viewed as an ancestor of Augustus. The emotionally charged gestures of Augustus and his sister Octavia suggest that they identify their own family drama with the heroic events recounted by Virgil.

William Buckland (1734-1774)
Artist: Charles Willson Peale (American, 1741–1827)
Date: 1774, reworked 1789
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT, United States
Description
Peale's portrait of William Buckland, the Annapolis architect and builder, was begun when Buckland was in the flush of his success, having finished his architectural masterpiece, the Matthias Hammond House. Peale shows Buckland in a relaxed pose holding a drafting pen, with the architectural plans for Hammond House on the table. The imaginative symbolic background displays the base of a monumental column and an uncommon five-column portico. Peale has caught Buckland's vigorous personality and strength of character, creating a portrait of vivacity and individuality. Buckland died unexpectedly before the portrait was finished, and Peale did not complete it until fifteen years later, at the request of the sitter's daughter.

The Feast of Herod
Artist: Sir Peter Paul Rubens (Flemish, 1577-1640)
Date: ca. 1635-1638
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland
Description
Herodias’ daughter, Salome, had danced so beautifully that Herod had promised to grant her any wish. Prompted by Herodias, Salome asked for the head of John the Baptist. This was Herodias’ revenge for the Baptist’s outspoken criticism of her marriage to Herod. Here Salome presents Saint John the Baptist’s head to King Herod. Herod shrinks back in horror. To his left, Herodias prods the Baptist’s tongue with a fork. Rubens conveys the dramatic moment through the actions and expressions of his larger than life size figures, his rich colours and bold contrasts of light and shadow. The picture was probably painted for Gaspar de Roomer, a Flemish merchant based in Naples, and inspired a number of Italian artists.
