Manipulation of Westerners by Hamas - A conspiracy that's not so much a conspiracy
Since the inception of the current war I have seen a number of people try to identify why Leftists are so quickly to defend Hamas's action and embrace/justify varying degrees of antisemitism. Often I see right wing authors point to DEI programs, safe spaces, and other such things. To me this is just another attempt at discrediting academia and they're using the guise of "fighting antisemitism" to push their narrative. I have found several neutral Jewish writers on the subject, such as Feldman from Harvard, who have addressed the long standing antisemitism within academia, politics, and culture. However, I have not seen anyone address the manipulation of Leftists by extremists as long standing tactic. What do I mean? Shortly after this began, Dr. Lorenzo Vidino of the George Washington University put together a small document titled The Hamas Network in America: A Short History. Dr. Vidino is considered an expert in these type of terrorist groups and has advised governments around the world for years. As such there is some contention regarding him and things he has said. However, this document is fairly clean of bias and lays out this network based upon evidence that the FBI collected through wiretaps and presented in a court case in the 00's. While it is a short document, I will not go over everything and just discuss the highlight. In 1993 a meeting was held in Philadelphia, PA, USA by senior Hamas members. The members of this meeting discussed how they could garner support from the West and protect themselves from scrutiny. One quote that stands out and highlights their intent comes from Shukri Abu Baker "I swear by Allah that war is deception, we are fighting our enemy with a kind heart. . . . Deceive, camouflage, pretend that you’re leaving while you’re walking that way. Deceive your enemy.” This statement of deception underscores the rest of the meeting and their subsequent plans. How do we know what was said? Well, the FBI had wiretapped the room the meeting was held in, so we have transcripts of their intent straight from their mouths. The strategy that the members come up with and discuss in the document has three approaches. 1) Charity & Fundraising.
In the meeting the Hamas members discuss how to raise money for their cause. They would fundraise inside and outside their respective communities, and that for every 5,000 that they raised for others they would send 100k to their allies. This type of behavior culminated in the USA's case against the Holy Land Foundation and associated groups. Many other charities have followed suit and have conducted similar behavior, hence why many charities focused on the I/P conflict are viewed suspiciously. There is not a good tract record of these groups actually getting the aid to the Palestinian civilian and instead funding terrorist groups.
2) Politics.
The members of the meeting stressed the need to influence Congress, the general American public, and to garner political support. They emphasized that they needed a neutral organization that would not publicly state it supported Hamas or other terrorist organizations and could deceive the general public into thinking they didn't. They would use neutral language and simply try to sway politics. Members of this meeting then went on to help found CAIR (specifically Omar Ahmed and Nihad Awad).
3) Research and Outreach.
Within the meeting they repeatedly emphasize that their violent rhetoric would upset the Westerners that would likely support them. As such, they needed to change the way they spoke to outsiders, change the perceptions of them, and influence progressives through coopting their language. They state that you need to use the language that the American progressive sympathizes with and couch things in terminology such as "oppressor", "colonist", and so on. One method that was suggested, and employed, was to infiltrate academia and produce research that was biased towards their ideals.
“This can be achieved by infiltrating the American media outlets, universities and research centers." - Omar Ahmed For example, The United Association for Studies and Research was created by members of this group and is a think tank outside of Chicago. The organization is considered defunct now, but its members went on to other positions in politics, academia, think tanks, and research. Think about that. Members of Hamas's network have become professors at colleges and universities. These are institutions where many young adults go to round out the beliefs they began developing in their early teens. This means that they're extremely passionate, but also easily manipulated. I personally remember the anti-GMO craze of the 00's and 10's and how every college campus was full of anti-GMO student activists claiming wild conspiracies about the danger of them. Now? That movement mostly gone and relegated to the corners where anti-science and pseudoscience believers dwell. But more importantly, a lot of that activism was manufactured by outside agitators with malicious intent disguised as benign activists.
In regards to the current group of young adult activists in the West (the majority are Zoomers and Millenials), they have been consuming material from academics with questionable intent that has been wrapped in language they resonate with. That makes the 3rd tactic of the Philadelphia Meeting the most dangerous one to me. For all the concern about academia "brainwashing our youth" there is a very real element of manipulation by academics who have allegiances and/or sympathy to terrorist groups and ideals. But they hide it in academic speak to make the general public think that they're not endorsing violent and hateful rhetoric. All of this feels like a conspiracy theory that has me linking red string to photos like Charlie from Always Sunny... but this is real. The FBI wiretapped a meeting and presented their transcripts back in the 00s. So some part of the USA knew that this was happening, knew that this manipulation was going on...and just allowed it. Bringing awareness is just a small step into addressing something that, to me, is quite scary to consider.

College students at more than 100 campuses across the country plan to walk out today to protest for a ceasefire in Gaza and for their universities to sever their close ties to arms manufacturers providing Israel with its weapons, like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon. The national walkout was organized by a broad coalition of groups including the Palestinian Youth Movement; the anti-war youth organization Dissenters; Anakbayan, the national organization for Filipino students and young people; the National Students for Justice in Palestine organization; the Muslim Students Association; and others. [...] “The goal of our walkout and moment of silence is to disrupt the day-to-day complicity on American college campuses across the US” to bring them into the movement calling for a ceasefire, says Zoë DeMercado, a student and Dissenters fellow at Xavier University of Louisiana, one of multiple historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) participating. DeMercado tells Teen Vogue that other students she’s spoken to at HBCUs have felt compelled to participate by Palestinian solidarity with Black American communities during movement uprisings in both 2014 and 2020: “We can't stay silent about this.” [...] Wednesday’s walkout marks the first nationally coordinated student action of this scale since October 7. “The student movement is a historic sector that has mobilized thousands during a variety of anti-war moments in the United States,” Kaleem Hawa, an organizer with Palestinian Youth Movement, tells Teen Vogue, explaining that students have been inspired by past student movements against the Vietnam War and South African apartheid. “It's a painful moment for a lot of Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims,” says Hawa, citing harassment of those speaking publicly on the conflict, in addition to the dehumanizing rhetoric and hate crimes. “It's scary stuff. So when I see campaigns like this, I feel very proud, because the students are always more courageous than their [institutions].” For DeMercado, her perspective in looking to the Black liberation movement made her choice to participate in the walkout feel obvious. “Black and Palestinian solidarity has gone as far back as the Black Power and Civil Rights Movement,” she says. The US has so far supported Israel’s military campaign against Gaza, with a White House spokesman saying a ceasefire would only benefit Hamas. A number of congresspeople are working on various legislative proposals on US engagement: Within the Democratic party, one letter signed by “every Democratic Jewish member and 128 other Democrats in Congress” backed a continuation of the Biden administration’s support for Israel, as well as humanitarian support for Gaza; a resolution by Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, and others calls for a ceasefire. On October 24, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken defended Israel’s military campaign to the United Nations Security Council, but said "humanitarian pauses must be considered" as Israel prepares for a ground invasion into Gaza. Also on that day, the UN’s secretary general called for a ceasefire, saying the “appalling” Hamas attacks “cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”

hey I was wondering there's any actual leftist politician in the USA? (it sounds like irony but it's not 😭 I just mean the ' left ' in the USA is not left to most countries point of view, so I was wondering if there's that fits better into the left pattern from outside USA)
hmm well imo no, but some would disagree. the democrats are pretty much the only "left wing" with any power that we have, and i use that term loosely. you may already know a lot of this bc ik american politics dominate the internet but i will give an overview: dems are socially liberal and generally thought of as the party that cares about minorities/marginalized people and promoting social welfare. their party policies are not leftist at all though, since they are still capitalist and still support US imperialism and neocolonialism abroad. the "left" has arguably achieved certain wins within the US, but i would attribute those wins more to citizens fighting to force Congress or the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) to address issues. note - although SCOTUS are not elected, each justice tends to align with one party or the other and their decisions usually reflect that.
americans kind of tend to put democrats in two loose categories: moderates/centrists and progressives. moderates/centrists are usually "establishment" democrats (they've often been in office forever, are pretty conservative, and are typically white and wealthy). progressives are people you've probably seen like AOC, bernie sanders, ilhan omar. big ones people talked about in this most recent election were beto o'rourke (lost governor of texas), john fetterman (won senate race in pennsylvania against TV personality and clown Dr. Oz lmfao), stacey abrams (lost governor of georgia to bryan kemp for the second time), and a lot more. progressives generally (although not always) advocate for things like a $15 federal minimum wage, some form of healthcare reform, liberal immigration policies, and stricter environmental regulations. unfortunately, the US government makes it pretty impossible to achieve meaningful change for people - so average people have to fight tooth and nail for relatively small wins, like one person being released from prison or one person getting the surgery they need to survive. it's similar for progressives in federal govt, and imo they usually follow a pattern of getting elected and then growing more conservative and/or being unable to help anyone they (claim to) want to. they're also pretty much always extremely pro israel, support sanctions on socialist countries, spread propaganda about "enemy" countries, and are sometimes even more warmongering than the republicans. this is probably the most important factor in why i gave up any hope in voting for progressives at a federal level. i do think it's easier to create meaningful change at a state and local level and i think voting is a lot more impactful there, although i am literally never gonna be someone who lectures anyone about voting lmao.
so tldr not really 😑🚫❌🔥🇺🇸🔥❌🚫😑

Ilhan Omar is a very Progressive Congress Woman. She has supported the Bernie Sanders Campaign in 2020 and she has been vocal against Israel. Ilhan Omar is one of the few Muslims within the USA Congress. And as such, she has received vile hatred from both Republicans and Democrats. We support Ilhan Omar, even when her own party does not.

REALLY FUCKED THAT ALL BUT 2 IN THE HOUSE VOTED ON HOUSE RESOLUTION 888 REGARDING ISRAEL. Doesn’t seem to affect much at first glance until you remember that a House Resolution passed like this may as well be all our reps and their sponsors voicing a unified opinion for Israel as a whole. Of course, there are people doing good in Israel, just as there are people enacting harm in Palestine, but a move like this essentially endorses the Israeli government that has been and is currently committing atrocities upon Palestinian civilians, including children. There is always more nuance than what I’ve written here to any scenario, but this is certainly a look for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Bowman, and other Democratic “progressives” who voted yea on this, as well as some portion of the voters they represent, and certainly their sponsors.
Some parts of this House Resolution make a lot of sense, such as condemning the Hamas-led attack on Israelis, but it also never addresses the irreparable harm Israel has done to Palestinians and equates anti-Israel sentiment with anti-semitism. While I see how “anti-Israel” could be interpreted as “wanting to destroy Israel” and therefore being anti-semitic, I don’t think that’s how many interpret it, and those who do have lived through atrocities placed upon them by Israeli bombs and attacks. This isn’t a “one side wins all” argument, because there is no such thing as a black and white cause differentiation, but it is a call to attention to the USA’s continued policies of war for money, and continued support of Israeli military action.
This is a really good way to look at who voted what, a summary of the house resolution, and a lot of other info if you weren’t aware of it.

(from Business Insider) Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) delivers remarks during a hearing by the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol in the Cannon House Office Building on October 13, 2022 in Washington, DC.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is seeking to become House Speaker next year.
He's promised to remove Rep. Adam Schiff and two other Democrats from their committees if elected.
Schiff has called him a "very weak leader."
Rep. Adam Schiff criticized House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for vowing to remove three Democrats from their committee assignments if elected speaker.
McCarthy has his sights set on removing Rep. Ilhan Omar, who is on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, who are on the House Intelligence Committee, from their assignments, according to USA Today.
"I'll keep that promise," McCarthy said Sunday on Fox News's "Sunday Morning Futures" after reporter Maria Bartiromo asked if he "will deliver" on removing Omar, Schiff, and Swalwell from committees.
Schiff responded to McCarthy's potential undertaking on a Sunday episode of ABC's "This Week."
"Well, I suspect he will do whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene wants him to do. He's a very weak leader of this conference, meaning that he will adhere to the wishes of the lowest common denominator, and if that lowest common denominator wants to remove people from committees, that's what they'll do," Schiff said.
In order for McCarthy to become House Speaker next year, replacing Nancy Pelosi, he will need to win 218 votes in the House. It's possible the effort may prove to be a challenge given Republicans' narrow margin of victory this midterm season.
Some Republicans have criticized McCarthy — including Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who said that McCarthy has been "siding with the insurrectionists," and Rep. Liz Cheney, who called McCarthy the "leader of the pro-Putin wing." Neither Kinzinger nor Cheney will be in Congress next year.
Greene supports McCarthy's efforts, calling it a "bad strategy" for Republicans to go against him. Under his leadership, he has said he will reinstate her on committee assignments despite her far-right ideologies.
Schiff, who is also on the committee investigating the January 6th insurrection, continued: "It's going to be chaos with Republican leadership. And, sadly, the crazy caucus has grown among the Republicans."
Representatives for McCarthy and Schiff did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Ilhan Omar is one of the most villainized politicians in the USA. A Muslim Woman of Colour, she has faced severe Islamophobia from both Republicans and Democrats. It's time that we show her support. She is one of the best Congress People of All Time. Genuinely, she is pretty awesome. A truly great, progressive, and left-leaning politician.
