Friday, February 23, 2024
I am posting this on Saturday because H's mom needed to drop her off early since something came up on her end, so I never got the chance to post my Friday update. We had fun though. I still had my piano practice to do, so while I practiced, she worked on a few things that she needed to finish. On the other hand, she did say that my playing was beautiful, and I was elated to hear.
H also plays, but she goes back and forth between enjoying it and doing it because she wants to be done with it and her mom wants her to at least complete Level 10 and then if she wants to stop, she at least knows how to play extremely well in case she ever wants to come back to it in the future. I told H a while back when that was decided that I agreed with her Mom. It was good to at least have the knowledge as she didn't know what she would want in her future, so she plays often when she's in the mood and not often enough when she has no motivation. It works for her, so who am I to say anything?
I plan on doing ARCT and then I'll feel like I've mastered to where I want to be. I'm a completionist, and I actually do enjoy playing. It's why I'm trying to find more time. I want to finish by the time I finish my HS studies, but I also heard that I need ample time for the ARCT since it's a whole other level. If I pass my Level 9 exams, then I can start Level 10 and plan on completing that by the end 10th grade and then I would have two years to prepare for the ARCT exam. That's my plan anyway. My parents don't really care what I do as long I continue to enjoy playing. It's merely hard to find the time to practice! I can only do it by cutting short my supplemental study time, which I have done, but I don't really need a full 2-3 hours for that since I cut my reading down to only one extra book at a time instead of a supplemental book and a fun book along with assigned readings.
Am I doing too much? Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough at all.
It's time to practice again. I'll try to update about today (Saturday) a bit later.

Arkhelios Adventures
Tumblr media
"Okay, don't admit to anything. Don't say anything and for the love of god, no magic. We don't want this to be any worse than it has to be."
Roman stood, watching the door with anxiety. Once the drama surrounding Theo's magical collapse had dissipated, word had come from Pleasantview that a magical review would be taking place. The magical academy that educated Theo was sending a representative to satisfy the Maricourt family. Apparently, Theo and Adam's experiment with blood magic had caused alarm to both the Darktides and Maricourts in Pleasantview and the school needed to investigate the situation to placate their fears.
Roman wasn't sure what the consequences could be, but there was no way that he was letting Theo get expelled from school because he made Adam's parents uncomfortable. He had fed and driven and tolerated his son's boyfriend, and if Adam's parents were going to judge Theo, Roman would put an end to all of that. The Maricourts may be rich and powerful, but he was still the Bellamy heir, and the son of a powerful demon lineage. He had his own thoughts about the situation and wouldn't hesitate to share them with the Maricourt family.
Abe felt similarly. They weren't as rich as the Maricourts, but he was still Elaine's son, and Lucy's brother. Both women would burn down Pleasantview before Theo could be hurt. Just let the Maricourts try their luck with the Helios family, the Helioses could hold their own.
Tumblr media
"I hope Adrian is getting through to them," Roman murmured. "I mean, he's related to the Maricourt bloodline somehow, which has to count for something. And you're sure that Adam's mother lives in Twikkii Island? I've seen the gossip magazines place her in Strangetown, and more specifically with the Strangetown royal family. Do we have any way of dealing with the Strangetown royals? Did Lucy find any dirt on them?"
"Adam's mom isn't going to come after us," Theo grumbled. "Adam loves me, and I helped him produce the Maricourt Staff. They should be thanking me."
"Theo, you're too young and idealistic to understand the complexities of rich families," Roman snapped. "Given the school you attend, I don't know why that is, but you're being naive. You performed binding magic on the son of Pleasantview's magical leader! I don't even know what his mother does because no one seems to think that I have the clearance to know! These people are dangerous, Theo. My grandfather was a master manipulator, and just keeping me in their fancy school was too much for him. Everyone is playing their own game, and their plans may cost you your life."
Theo scowled, still unconvinced about his father's view of Adam's family.
"His mom works for the government. One of the governments anyway. She does a lot of paperwork."
"Mmm. That's not exactly reassuring."
A shower of sparkles glimmered in the front yard, revealing three figures.
"Adam!"
Tumblr media
"Theo!"
"Evren? Where's the academy's representative?"
Adrian beamed proudly.
"I managed to get Evren nominated for the role," he boasted. "He's a more neutral candidate, given that he's from an alternate world in the past, and practices alternate approaches to magical energy."
"He's also Theo's stepfather more or less," Abe pointed out. "They were okay with that?"
"Of course," Adrian scoffed, looking offended. "I'm a master negotiator. Some of us actually graduated boarding school, you know." He smiled teasingly at Roman. "You know how persuasive I can be."
"Gross." Theo wrinkled his nose in disgust. Adam looked like he was doing the same, which only made Theo love him more. They were always so in sync with each other.
"What did the academy say? Are they involving the council? The Strangetown monarchy?" Abe demanded, ignoring his son's revulsion with parental flirting. "Do I need to call my sister?"
Evren and Adrian shared a tired look.
"Let's go inside."
Tumblr media
"So, no one thinks that the spell was cast maliciously," Evren began.
He tried to continue his sentence, but Roman was incensed. Evren had expected this reaction eventually, but he'd hoped he would have more time before Roman exploded with raw parental concern.
"Maliciously? Why? Why would anyone assume that my son would have sinister intentions for the kid he's been obsessed with for years? Is it because he's a demon? Is this bigotry the official stance of the school that the leader of all demons supports? Do I need to call Lucy?"
Abe placed a steadying hand on his husband's shoulder.
"Ro, why don't you let Evren talk? I'm sure we can sort this all out without involving lawyers and the Sovereign. Plus, I'm pretty sure that the kids can hear you in the other room. It's probably best that we keep this adults only for now. You know how Theo tends to get riled up whenever we even mention Adam. He's a lot like his father."
Tumblr media
"No, seriously. Why do they think Theo's ruined their precious family?" Roman demanded. "If anything, Adam's tempted away the Bellamy heir from his future duties and role. All Theo talks about now is magic and the Maricourts and how he's going to grow up to be anywhere other than Arkhelios. I think they should apologize to us."
"Roman, I was apprenticed under Roegus Maricourt for years," Evren interrupted, giving Adrian a pointed look. "He may have been the Roegus of an alternate time and universe, but there is truth to the Maricourt family's power. They command magic no one else can and can bend the laws of magic to their will. You don't want to piss them off, trust me. The Strangetown coven has links to demigods and rulers of time and the Pleasantview coven...it's best not to speculate on their abilities."
"Rien and I can read cards just fine," Roman pouted, causing Abe to sigh beside him. "We have advantages too, you know. Theo's no Maricourt and look what he can do."
"It's not a contest," Abe groaned. "And that's just what they're afraid of. It sounds like they're afraid of Theo tapping into their power and toppling their balance of power over the world."
"Hmph."
While Roman sulked, Abe focused his gaze on Evren.
"They should be afraid of him," Abe said with confidence. "They've been ruling this world for centuries and one little demon hybrid is making them worry. Our son is exceptional and they know it."
Tumblr media
Adam stood frozen in place, afraid to move lest Theo's little sisters pounce on him. They were as ruthless as attack dogs, sensing vulnerability in their big brother's relationship with his boyfriend. Theo was in trouble at school and with Adam's family and suddenly here was his boyfriend standing in their living room, looking suspicious and holding something behind him. Something was about to happen and both Rien and Fiolett weren't about to miss the drama.
"I think he's going to propose," Rien said excitedly. "Their love is forbidden and they're going to run away together, just like in the stories."
"Nothing is forbidden," Adam stammered, trying his best to ignore the giggling girls behind him. "It's just a misunderstanding. No one is running away."
"They're pregnant then," Fiolett concluded. "That's why our parents are all talking together. They're trying to decide what to do about it. Probably planning a wedding."
Adam's face flushed with embarrassment, while Theo cringed beside him.
"Would you two go away?" he shouted, flailing his arms for emphasis. "You don't know what you're talking about! My life isn't like one of your stupid gossip magazines. Leave us alone!"
Theo's anger only made the girls snicker harder. Clearly, he couldn't have a private moment with his boyfriend as long as they were following him around. He smirked, thinking about the different methods he could use to get some privacy. Rien was older than Fiolett and gifted with some intuitive understanding of magic. Fiolett had a magical father and likely some abilities of her own, but she lacked the foundation to use those abilities.
With a quick snap of his fingers, Theo opened a portal beneath his sisters and watched as they fell helplessly through it. They'd fall safely onto their beds upstairs where the door was now locked, giving their brother a brief moment alone with Adam.
Tumblr media
"Thank god they're gone," Theo laughed, imagining the frustrated looks on his sisters' faces. "Now we can talk alone...or at least until my parents make their decisions. You don't really think that they'll make us break up, do you? I mean, I won't let them break us up, but they can make me change schools or something like that. I don't want to change schools."
"We're not breaking up," Adam promised, gripping the small box in his hand tightly. "My parents could never make that happen. Besides, they have Remy to worry about and a royal wedding to plan for Miruna and Elowen's bad grades. I'm the well-behaved kid, so I get less parental interference."
"It must be nice," Theo grumbled to himself. "I have a million siblings, but my parents are determined to plan out my life for me."
"Well, I'm not going anywhere," Adam replied, flushing a little while planning out his next words. "I...I got you something that might help remind you of that fact."
Theo's eyes locked onto the mysterious box in Adam's hand, suddenly obsessed with unlocking its secrets. He took the box from his boyfriend gingerly, not wanting to ruin the moment by dropping it.
It was light, and it didn't rattle around when he shook the box slightly. It was thrilling to guess what it could be. Theo wanted this moment to last forever.
Tumblr media
Theo gasped when the lid lifted and revealed his gift. A small, clear crystal was mounted on a ring, shining in the sun.
"A ring? You're giving me a ring? I can't believe it!"
"It's not expensive," Adam quickly pointed out. "I didn't have a lot of money to work with, but I grew the crystal myself. The Crystal Cove witches helped me with it. You know the necklace you were always wearing when we met? The one that would help you focus your abilities that you mastered in an afternoon?"
Theo nodded eagerly. That necklace had been made to block his powers as a child and force him to train his powers responsibly. As Adam said, it hadn't taken Theo long to break through its binding at all. He still had it in his drawer at home, though he hardly ever wore it. He hadn't needed training wheels for his abilities in years.
He closed his eyes for an instant, trying to mentally poke the object before him. For an instant, Theo had a frightening thought that Adam was reacting to the incident between them by trying to squash his abilities. He didn't think that Adam was like that, as he had always encouraged Theo to be himself in all the years that they'd known each other, but it was still a worry that felt like it had some merit. Nothing seemed to be amiss with the crystal before him though, so Theo tried to push the thought from his mind.
"This should help you better than that necklace did," Adam explained, worried about Theo's hesitation. "It doesn't block out your abilities at all, but it filters things a bit. The light inside of it is supposed to protect you from shadows and spirits and curses. I talked with Master Toyonaga, and he said it should help you with what's left of your curse. It can't get rid of it completely, but it's supposed to help keep it from interfering with your magic. Maybe."
"You made this? You made this for me?"
Theo was suddenly immensely relieved that his nosey sisters were nowhere near him. He wasn't sure, but he thought his heart might be dangerously swelling in his chest to the point of exploding. Adam had made him a crystal to help him, to show him how much he cared about him.
"I love it!" Theo exclaimed, grabbing Adam's hand excitedly and engulfing him in a kiss. "It's amazing! How long did it take you to make this?"
Adam shrugged modestly, leaning into Theo's embrace.
"A couple days. Not that long, really. It took a few hours for it to set, and then Master Toyonaga double-checked it for me. It really does glow sometimes; I had one made when I was a kid and was afraid of monsters. Miruna taught me how."
"It's incredible, I'm never going to take it off," Theo promised. A thought suddenly occurred to him. "You have a million crystals and now you've grown this one for me. Do...do you think that you want to switch covens when we're older? You seem to really like the Crystal Cove coven."
Adam flinched just thinking of his parents' reaction to that idea.
"I don't think that's possible," he replied carefully. "My choice is between Dad's Pleasantview coven and Mom's Strangetown coven and that's about it. The Crystal Cove coven is an international joke and my mom has bad blood with several of the leaders. I'm too important to throw my life away, apparently. I don't feel all that important, but it's out of my hands. It's just like you and the Demon Sovereign. Do you think that she's going to let you choose your path in life after everything she's invested in your education?"
Theo was quiet for a moment. It was hard not to agree with Adam, especially now that their parents were speaking to council representatives over the spell they had chosen to cast together. What did it matter if Adam wanted to choose a coven that was "below his rank"? Why should Theo be asking the Maricourts for permission to do magic with their son? The whole thing wasn't fair.
"Theo! Evren needs to talk to you. Come in here and bring Adam."
Tumblr media
Theo grabbed his boyfriend's hand, while still admiring the new ring on his finger.
"Come on, let's go hear what they have to say," he groaned. "I bet that I'm at least grounded at this point, possibly suspended at school. You'll probably do okay though. I'm just a bad influence on you."
Adam smiled.
"Trust me, I'd much rather report to your parents instead of mine. Being grounded is nothing compared to mandatory coven responsibilities."
"Theo! We don't have all day here!"
Theo rolled his eyes and squeezed Adam's hand.
"We're coming, geez. Don't have a fit."

What’s going on with Elizabeth Chambers?
An Update:
Good morning Tumblrverse!
I haven’t published in a while, so I wanted to make a post outlining what’s been going on in my life and what’s been causing some of the holdups in my work at the moment. The short answer is YES – both The Padded Princess Playroom and The Diaper Discipline Academy are going to continue, and I have work done on the next story in each series. PPP is much further ahead with a September targeted release, followed by an Oct-Nov DDA drop.
So what’s been happening with Elizabeth Chambers that’s caused so much time to pass with 0 updates?
I’m engaged!
I’m officially off the market, I’ll be getting married in Sept 2024 to my partner who is amazing in every way. She’s by no means a little or a mommy herself, but they’re AB/DL aware and have even worn a couple times with me. Wedding planning and the commitment to my partner have eaten into a bit of writing time, but not as much as the next few items.
We’re long distance…
We live on opposite sides of the country at the moment because of our careers, so traveling and spending quality time together online makes it more challenging to keep my output up.
I’m doing my master's degree
This is a bit of a time sink but it’s a goal I’ve had for a long time and my main job pays for me to do it, so I can’t turn it down. Still, it’s hard to be motivated to write 1,000 words after finishing a 20+ page research paper or 100+ pages of reading every week.
My REAL job has made us return to the office.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have been able to start this work if I was full-time in an office, but now I’m back in the office three days a week. It stinks that I can’t fill my downtime at work by writing smut, but I can’t really do that in my office setting like I can when working from home.
I’ve just been tired.
Honestly, this is the big one. With a long-distance relationship, work, and graduate school, I’m wiped out and need my weekends to recover, which means less time for writing unless that’s what I feel will help me recharge (and it honestly does sometimes!).
In short, life happens, and now I’m in a position where I can write a little more than I was over the last few months, but it’s still a challenge. Thank you to everyone who has messaged me to see what’s going on and for your continued patronage of this little side business I’ve developed. Even with only five books published, and only publishing every few months, I still bring in a few extra hundred bucks a month from this which is amazing, and I couldn’t’ do it without ya’ll.
If you’re still reading this and want to help out, the best thing you can do is to leave a review of one of my books on Amazon! It honestly helps with the algorithm and will provide me with more resources to continue this work, and produce more content moving forward.
Thanks!

Chris Leib's "Hierarchy."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opening on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, California is artist Chris Leib's must see solo exhibition, "Hierarchy."
In 'Hierarchy', through an ever growing cast of wise, tolerant Bonobos and rambunctious astronaut children, Leib continues his examination of our precarious evolving pathway started long ago. While seemingly whimsical, the paintings are laden with hidden meaning and explore themes of heroism, Western folklore, and the schism of instinct and control. Traversing through the detail in these paintings, paths of symbols and narrative open the way to intersecting thoroughfares of power and history, shaping our delicate position in the evolutionary scheme.
Chris Leib is an American artist from the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his education in Anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley. He later studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, after which he apprenticed with the master Italian painter Roberto Lupetti and worked for a number of years as an illustrator for McGraw-Hill Publishing. Chris Leib has exhibited his artwork across the United States, as well as in Germany, France, Denmark and Australia.
A classically trained painter, Leib has spent many years applying renaissance techniques to subject matter outside traditional boundaries. Leib's paintings typically feature Astronauts and Bonobos in various odd settings that are loosely inspired by the species' (mis)interpretation of historical contexts. Despite their dark tones, his subjects are characterized by humor and an exploration of heroic imagery.
Leib’s art has been positively reviewed in Hi-Fructose Magazine, Huffington Post, Kunst Magazin, Supersonic Electronic, Village Voice, Beautiful Bizarre, HEY! Magazine, LA Weekly, Cyberzone and BloPop to name a few. Leib has twice been an Artist in Residence at the De Young Museum in San Francisco and has received competitive grants from the George Sugarman Foundation and the San Francisco Arts Commission. His work can be found in important public and private collections in the United States, Australia and Europe.

'Following the events of the new Netflix limited series Ripley, the enigmatic con artist went on to continue his sinister career as a professional scammer. The psychological thriller is based on the renowned 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley by celebrated novelist Patricia Highsmith, the first of her 5-part "Ripley" book series that also includes Ripley Under Ground and Ripley's Game. The Talented Mr. Ripley has been adapted several times for film and television, but none have been shot completely in monochrome until Steven Zallian's Ripley. Zallian, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Schindler's List, American Gangster, and The Irishman, wrote and directed the entire 8-episode miniseries.
Tom Ripley, who uses several different aliases and also acquires many places of residence throughout Ripley, is a master of disguise and deceit. He is drawn to murder once his true identity of being an elaborate con man faces the threat of being exposed. Tom has conned his way from a lowly life of scamming and thievery in New York City to becoming incredibly wealthy in Italy thanks to a supposed old friend, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Ripley's cast is led by an exceptionally chilling Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Black Mirror, All of Us Strangers) as the titular treacherous protagonist. By the end of Zallian's Ripley, Tom has orchestrated a way to frame his murder of Dickie Greenleaf as a suicide by successfully convincing Dickie's concerned girlfriend Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning) and a determined Inspector Ravini (Maurizio Lombardi).
Ripley has received rave reviews from critics upon its April 4, 2024 release exclusively on Netflix. Ripley brings to light the lengths that monsters like Tom will go to in the name of self-preservation, using chilling methodology and calculation to be seen as significant by means of material wealth and social access. Even after Tom escapes to England in the final moments of Ripley, he does not seem satisfied, only aware of what it feels like to wear Dickie's clothes, flaunt Dickie's ring, and stare at Dickie's artwork while ultimately feeling nothing at all. Ripley is a chilling first entry of a magnificent book series by Highsmith, which continues with Tom living a new life in France six years after the events of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
10. Tom Lives A Lavish Life With His Heiress Wife In France
In Ripley Book 2: Ripley Under Ground
Ripley Book 2, titled Ripley Under Ground, which was published in 1970, some fifteen years after The Talented Mr. Ripley. The book takes place in the summer of 1968, which is about the time that it would have been written by Highsmith. Tom has settled down in France in Ripley Under Ground and is married to a prominent French heiress named Héloïse Plisson, who has suspicions about how Tom acquired his money but never pries too deeply. In some ways, Héloïse is a combination of Dickie and Marge from The Talented Mr. Ripley, with Dickie's casual attitude as well as Marge's underlying suspicions towards Tom.
9. Tom Establishes An Art Forgery Scheme After Painter's Death
In Ripley Book 2: Ripley Under Ground
Tom's big scam in Ripley Under Ground involves a massive art forgery operation. He became a silent partner of an organization known as Derwatt Ltd., which sells official works of the celebrated painter Philip Derwatt. Derwatt, however, is reported missing and has been presumed to be dead for years, although the general public is unaware of this. As a result, Tom enlists another painter named Bernard Tufts to impersonate Derwatt and paint original works on his behalf. Tom's corrupt operation is flawless until an American collector named Thomas Murchison claims one of the paintings to be fraudulent.
8. Tom Has An Accomplice To Murder In Book 2
In Ripley Book 2: Ripley Under Ground
Bernard Tufts, who feels incredibly guilty for his role in Tom's art forgery scheme, eventually becomes Tom's accomplice to the murder of the American art collector. After Tom kills Murchison, he enlists the help of Bernard to dispose of the body. This only worsens Barnard's guilty conscience, who is contemplating coming clean about the whole ordeal to the police. While Bernard is a terrible accomplice to Tom in the murder of Murchison in Ripley Under Ground, it's the first time in the book series where Tom enlists the help of another person after committing a murder.
7. Reeves Minot Asks Tom To Commit Murder
In Ripley Book 3: Ripley's Game
Ripley Book 3 titled Ripley's Game was published in 1974. It was adapted into a feature film that starred John Malkovich as Tom Ripley. Reeves Minot, who Malkovich plays in Netflix's Ripley, appears in both Ripley Under Water and Ripley’s Game, but has a very suspicious request for Tom in the third Ripley book. Reeves Minot, who is a known high collar criminal in the United States, asks Tom to be a hitman at the start of Ripley's Game. Tom, still living lavishly in France with his wife Héloïse, refuses and tries to find Minot a suitable replacement for that type of job.
6. Tom Assists In The Assassination of A Mafioso
In Ripley Book 3: Ripley's Game
After Tom finds the right man for the job, a poor man named Jonathan Trevanny who is dying from leukemia, he appears to be out of the operation altogether. Trevanny successfully completes one hit for Minot, which inspires Minot to get him to agree to another hit on a Mafia boss. The plan is tragic as the terminally ill Trevanny is meant to kill the mafioso and then take his own life immediately after, since there will be little chance of escape. Tom intervenes and kills the mafioso for Trevanny and makes him promise not to tell Minot that he assisted in the assassination.
5. Tom's Life Is Saved By An Accomplice Named Trevanny
In Ripley Book 3: Ripley's Game
Tom's life is later saved by Trevanny once news gets out about his involvement on the assassination of the aforementioned mafioso. As mafia hitmen are just about to kill Tom, Trevanny acts as a human shield and saves Tom's life. Overall, Ripley's Game is much different from The Talented Mr. Ripley in that Tom has much more of a heart and a moral compass than he does in Highsmith's first Ripley novel. Tom surprisingly also does not have a big new scam like he had in the previous two novels, which is an indication of the tonal shifts that are to come for his character later in the series.
4. Tom Helps A Young American Fugitive Named Frank
In Ripley Book 4: The Boy Who Followed Ripley
Ripley Book number four, The Boy Who Followed Ripley, is the most unlike the rest of the Ripley novels, especially The Talented Mr. Ripley. In The Boy Who Followed Ripley, which was published in 1980, Tom continues to live comfortably at his French estate and has not participated much in his old life of crime. A mysterious boy comes to visit him at his house, claiming he's from the United States and his name is Billy. Tom discovers that Billy is actually Frank Pierson, the son of an American business tycoon. Frank eventually confesses that he killed his father by pushing him off a cliff and came to Tom because he thought he would be able to help him based on his questionable reputation.
3. Tom Plays More Of A Hero Role In Ripley Book 4
In Ripley Book 4: The Boy Who Followed Ripley
The Boy Who Followed Ripley is so much unlike the original The Talented Mr. Ripley novel in the way that Tom is acting like a responsible, but still shady, father figure for the first time in the series. It's unclear why Highsmith decided to switch up the tone of her Ripley series so drastically with The Boy Who Followed Ripley, but it does align with the overall sense of growth that Tom was beginning to demonstrate in Ripley's Game. It appears that after all in The Boy Who Followed Ripley, Tom does have a decent heart, which is stunning to consider after watching Netflix's Ripley. At one point in the book, Tom even dresses in drag in order to rescue Frank after he's been kidnapped.
2. Tom Is Accused Of Murdering Dickie Greenleaf & Thomas Murchison
In Ripley Book 5: Ripley Under Water
Tom's ghosts come back to haunt him in the final Ripley book, Ripley Under Water. The title is a notable reference to Tom's fear of water that he demonstrated in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Ripley Under Water was published in 1991 and sees Tom living a completely normal, quaint life still in France where he tends to his garden daily. Tom is confronted by an American named David Pritchard who is convinced that Tom murdered the art collector Thomas Murchison, which took place in Ripley's Game. David also starts to ask Tom questions about Dickie, bringing back Tom's very first murder in the original book. Tom must find ways to deflect Pritchard's accusations but does not resort to killing him, proving that Tom's life of murder could in fact be over by the end of the book series.
1. Tom Never Gets Caught For Any Of His Crimes
In Ripley Book 5: Ripley Under Water
Despite the effects of David Pritchard in Ripley Under Water, Tom Ripley gets away with it once again by the end of the fifth and final Ripley book. Shockingly, Pritchard does somehow discover Murchison's body and goes so far as to leave his skeleton on Tom's doorstep. Tom hides the body once again and leaves it in the pond outside the Pritchard family's home, which leads to another tragedy and indirect murder on Tom's behalf. Tom's blood-soaked hands never come clean in any of Highsmith's five Ripley books, cementing his status as one of the best literary con artists ever created. While there's no current indication that Ripley season 2 will be made at Netflix, there is certainly plenty of source material to work with.'

Martial Master Asumi ch.32 thoughts
[And Then There Was One]
(Contents: speculation - cancelation)
I wonder how I would have taken the news that MMA was ending had Cipher Academy not ended at the same time?
I wonder how I'd be reacting if I hadn't been told prior to the previous review?
I wrote last week's fresh off of that news, so I almost feel like I already did my end-of-series review
I almost don't know what to write here, but I owe it to this series and Kawada to at least try
Like with Cipher Academy, the roadmap that we skipped is pretty well laid out here - we see the key opponents that Asumi would have needed to face in the J-Future Cup (Takanori obviously being one of them, and I'm willing to bet would have been the final one), we see that Baku had a violent and deadly past that likely would have been a major revelation that raised the stakes for the entire series, and finally we see Asumi vs. Kazuro, with Kazuro's bloodlust manifesting as fire to complement Asumi's water. I don't remember if I predicted that specifically, but it doesn't come at all as a surprise
I definitely would have liked to see other characters show off their bloodlust like that, and I think it's a tremendous shame that no one ever got the chance to. I don't have a good idea of what it is that prevented the series from catching on, but if I had to guess, I think it might be that it established itself as a continuation of Hinomaru Zumou without matching the level of escalation quite quickly enough
To illustrate: Hinomaru revealed the concept of bloodlust around chapter 60-ish as I recall, while Asumi did it around chapter 20; now that we know that they're using the same mechanics, we would expect to see it being used by other fighters just as quickly rather than having it sprinkled through, but the only glimpse we ever got of it after that was from Okiba. I think since Asumi reached the professional stage in about an eighth of the time it took Hinomaru, then we as the audience should have been given a glimpse of how the ceilings of the professional worlds compared
The moment we knew Kunisaki was here, I think it would have helped if we had gotten to see him fighting. Maybe we could have seen the fight that inspired Amagaki, or the first professional bout we saw could have been one of his rather than Okiba's one-sided beatdown. The sense of escalation was fine for me, but maybe it felt too laid back for everyone else. Hinomaru fans know that we could be seeing people with lightning coursing their entire bodies, why are we only seeing Asumi splashing a little bit of water?
Like I said, this is just my best guess, but I think the connection to Hinomaru established too strong of an expectation that wasn't really being delivered on. That said, wow did people not give it any time to do anything with it! It's been what, a quarter year since we saw Asumi enter bloodlust mode?? That's nothing! We only got to see two fights since then! But I guess maybe people were just impatient?
Or they just...weren't up for reading an MMA manga? Maybe MMA's not that popular in Japan? I think Hinomaru Zumou found a really good niche cus sumo itself is big, but also from how Kawada portrayed it, kind of dwindling. It seems like sumo is having a harder time connecting with the youth, so maybe Hinomaru helped bridge that gap, or appealed to the fans who felt like their favorite sport wasn't as popular as it should be?
Or maybe there are too many MMA manga. I don't read any, but I've seen a few here and there like Teppu, so maybe the market's oversaturated with them and I didn't realize it
There are so many possible factors, but in the end, knowing what to blame wouldn't really change the fact that another one of my favorites is gone. It's especially disheartening because of how Kawada seemed to take the news, berating himself in the author comments this week. Maybe his tone was more light-hearted in Japanese, but calling himself an amateur and blaming himself for his own failures leaves such a negative taste in my mouth. I hate to see an author I love get down on himself, and it makes me so worried that he's going to give up, like I said last week too. I want to see his work again; his art style is so pleasing, his choreography is great, and his character writing is fantastic. I think it would be a tremendous loss to the art form if he were to quit, but alas, he will never hear me say that. I hope someone feels like I do in Japan and sends him a nice, heartfelt letter expressing how much he means to people like us, and that we'll get to see him again as soon as possible
I'm going to stop here, lest I work myself up into a lather. I know I pretty rarely had engagement on these posts compared to UU and CA, but I hope that the few of you who read them enjoyed yourselves, and I hope it deepened your experience and appreciation for the series like it did for me. Hope to see you all again with Kawada's next work
Until next time

It’s been quite a while since I wrote an anime-related post - I believe the last one was my review of the final Evangelion movie over a year ago! Even though I don’t watch anime nearly as much as I used to, I still keep up with series that I’ve been following for years, like My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan, and I’ll occasionally check out a new series if I hear good things about it. The last new series I watched was Demon Slayer, which I liked and will continue watching when new episodes are released, but I can’t say I loved it. However, I can say that I loved Spy x Family!
Tumblr media
Here’s a good summary of what it’s about, courtesy of MyAnimeList:
“Corrupt politicians, frenzied nationalists, and other warmongering forces constantly jeopardize the thin veneer of peace between neighboring countries Ostania and Westalis. In spite of their plots, renowned spy and master of disguise "Twilight" fulfills dangerous missions one after another in the hope that no child will have to experience the horrors of war. In the bustling Ostanian city of Berlint, Twilight dons the alias of "Loid Forger," an esteemed psychiatrist. However, his true intention is to gather intelligence on prominent politician Donovan Desmond, who only appears rarely in public at his sons' school: the prestigious Eden Academy. Enlisting the help of unmarried city hall clerk Yor Briar to act as his wife and adopting the curious six-year-old orphan Anya as his daughter, Loid enacts his master plan. He will enroll Anya in Eden Academy, where Loid hopes she will excel and give him the opportunity to meet Donovan without arousing suspicion. Unfortunately for Loid, even a man of his talents has trouble playing the figure of a loving father and husband. And just like Loid is hiding his true identity, Yor—who is an underground assassin known as "Thorn Princess"—and Anya—an esper who can read people's minds—have no plans to disclose their own secrets either. Although this picture-perfect family is founded on deception, the Forgers gradually come to understand that the love they share for one another trumps all else.”
It’s definitely one of the funniest and most endearing shows I’ve watched in a while. Anime humor can be hit or miss for me but this one nails it pretty well (I tend to like subtle humor rather than hyperbolic humor). Usually I’m not a fan of little kid characters, but Anya is hilarious and very adorable. I think it’s because most kid characters in anime are surrounded by other kid characters, like in school settings, so they can’t stand out as much. So Anya getting inadvertently wrapped up in all the adult conflicts that her parents are involved in is a great foil that allows her humor to shine. Plus being able to read minds, but having to keep it a secret, while also sometimes misunderstanding the adult situations in the minds she reads, is just such a clever and fun premise to work with.
I also like the fact that Loid and Yor were naturally good parents, and a good couple, right from the get go. They could have easily gone through the stereotypical character arc of “they’re so mean/cold towards Anya and/or each other but over time they soften up.” But no, they were both likable and nice to each other from the beginning, and their situations were relatable. But the clencher is that, even though they say that they’re just “pretending” to be a happy family, we as the audience can see that they really do care about each other, without that fact being shoved down our throats either.
Apparently Spy x Family is based on a manga that’s been ongoing since 2019, so there’s still a lot of story for the anime to cover. Overall I think it’s a very fun, unique show with good humor and a lot of heart, likable characters, and a premise that's full of potential (especially now that they’re adopting a dog that can see the future!) It’s a great “found family” story for sure! I haven’t enjoyed a new anime this much in a long time...I missed that feeling! I binged the currently 14 episodes available on hulu and now it’s gonna be a long wait to watch the episodes weekly, lol.

A Review of Brian De Palma’s ‘Mission: Impossible’ (1996)
Tumblr media
In the thrilling 1996 movie Mission: Impossible, directed by Brian De Palma, Ethan Hunt is a spy who finds himself on the run. His crew members are killed one by one during a risky mission. And the accusation of being a traitor is erroneously assigned to him. Hunt must prove his innocence while facing dangerous enemies, high-tech gadgets, and a mysterious list of undercover agents coveted by everyone. Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt, leading an impressive cast that includes Jon Voight, Emmanuelle Béart, Henry Czerny, Ving Rhames, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jean Reno. The movie is an adaptation of the hit episodic program of the same name that ran on American television from 1966 to 1973. This movie has sparked a prosperous film franchise that continues to this day. The film features many exciting scenes, such as the mission in Prague, the vault break-in in Langley, and the train chase in England.
It has a run time of an hour and fifty minutes, which is within the range for the usual bracket of 90 minutes to 120 minutes for a traditional movie length. It does not feel like it, though. This presentation of its story feels much more epic than that. David Koepp and Robert Towne co-wrote the script based on a story outline Koepp created with Steven Zaillian. All three writers have established careers in Hollywood with recognizable movies, some of which garnered award recognition. Robert Towne won an Academy Award for his original screenplay Chinatown (1974), and Steven Zaillian won for his screenplay adaptation of Schindler’s List (1993) from the book of the same name. David Koepp is a recognizable name for churning out the scripts and stories for blockbuster movies and small-budget independent films in equal fervor. His writing contributions include Jurassic Park (1993), Stir of Echos (1999), and co-writing credit for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023).
While watching the movie, I had a chuckle or two because the framing for some of the shots is a bit cheesy, such as the one with Tom Cruise hovering between two of his co-stars with a grin so big that he must have chugged an extra large iced coffee right before the camera began to roll. He bursts with energy while the others in the frame are neutrally composed. It seems unusual and disjointed in retrospect, nearly thirty years after the movie’s production, because the audience has more experience watching Tom Cruise on and off the movie screen. The audience perspective has changed over the years, giving the visual dynamics a different feel. Even after stating all that, I still enjoy the tone and delivery of Brian De Palma’s visual storytelling.
Brian De Palma is an American filmmaker known for his thrilling director career that spans over 50 years. He is known for his exciting, violent, and often controversial films inspired by Alfred Hitchcock and other cinematic legends. His most popular works include Carrie, Scarface, The Untouchables, and Mission: Impossible. De Palma began his career in the 1960s as a part of the New Hollywood movement, which comprised young and innovative directors. He worked with Robert De Niro in his early films, such as Hi, Mom, and Greetings. Later, he established himself as a master of the thriller genre, using unique camera techniques, split screens, and elaborate set pieces to create tension and shock. De Palma has also explored themes like voyeurism, sexuality, identity, and politics in his films, often resulting in criticism and controversy. He is considered one of his generation’s most original and influential directors. De Palma introduced new ways of visual storytelling, like long takes, slow motion, and split diopter shots, which have influenced the thriller genre. He also experimented with genres and styles, including musicals, comedies, and science fiction, which has inspired many other filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, and Wes Craven.

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - Martin: 3rd Review
Origins - Comic
Tumblr media
I got the graphic novel version of this one, and it includes all four main issues and the bonus Free Comic Book Day story.
The Free Comic Book Day issue acts as a prologue of sorts, but doesn’t really add much as it originally was intended to be a separate standalone story. So I’m going to talk about it as such.
I hope you enjoy today's special: two reviews for the price of one!
FCBD 2022
Tumblr media
The Fugitive Doctor lands on Earth in the year 1962 and saves a bunch of children from a group of alien invaders... or rather the little kids save themselves and she just captures the bad guys afterward. She’s then deemed ‘cool’ and invited to ‘hang’, but she can’t stick around. Though she does reflect how Earth is starting to grow on her just a bit.
Then we cut to the First Doctor and Susan first arriving on Earth in 1963. The End.
Tumblr media
I understand what they were trying to go for here; that the Doctor chose earth as his first adventure with Susan, because he subconsciously remembers being Martin, but it doesn’t really work. Mainly because Martin’s Doctor doesn’t work as a pre-Hartnell incarnation. Even if you buy The Other/Timeless Child/Morbius Incarnations ect., she still doesn’t fit.
Look, for the sake of augment, let’s pretend that the Master and the Matrix wasn’t lying (even though they always lie); any pre-Hartnell incarnations wouldn’t call themselves the Doctor, they wouldn’t have a tardis that looks like a Police Box, and they wouldn’t have the same moral code that we associate with the Doctor.
Hartnell is called the ‘First Doctor’ because he’s the person who grew into the Doctor. Both in the meta sense and within the canon of the series itself.
He wasn’t called the Doctor until Barbra and Ian gave him that name. He didn’t form his moral code until he met them and learned form them. And the Tardis didn’t become a blue Police Box until it landed in that junkyard in 1963.
To suggest otherwise is to shit all over 60 years of character development, and that is where I draw the line.
Mess with continuity and the lore all you want. Reset the retcon button each era. I don’t care. But do not erase the development of the main character!
Fortunately, it’s all so incompetently done that it’s easy to ignore.
The connection between Martin’s Doctor and Hartnell’s Doctor is so vague and disconnected that you can just assume whatever you want.
Look, I like Martin, I like her Doctor. I’m happy to have her. But give me any other explanation for her other than Pre-Hartnell, or worst, mealy mouthed allusions with no resolution. Please, I’m begging you show.
Origins
Tumblr media
Thankfully the main story is far better.
The Doctor is tasked by the Division to ‘eliminate’ a terrorist cult that threatens Gallifrey.... Only to find out that said ‘cult’ are really just Gallifreyans themselves, looking to leave their home planet and start life anew.
This deception, of course, is what inspires her to break ties with the Division and is supposed to lead into The Fugitive of the Judoon.
Well not quite. Lee is absent, so we’re meant assume that other stories exist between this one and Fugitive of the Judoon.
Instead we get Taslo as the Doctor’s companion.
Tumblr media
I really like Taslo.
She has a lot of layers to her and a nice arc.
Similar to Romana, she’s a Time Lord fresh out of the academy and assigned by the High Council to assist the Doctor in her mission.
And that’s where the similarities end. They have two completely different personalities, skill sets, and character developments.
Taslo is primarily a solider, an undercover agent. Like all Time Lords she is smart, but not smarter than any other Gallifreyan. You get the feeling that she’s decidedly average by Gallifreyan standards, but was chosen for the job because she’s inexperienced and young, and therefore easier to manipulate by the Division.
That’s interesting.
Like, that’s really, really interesting. A Time Lord that isn’t amazingly special at first glance; who’s neither a renegade nor a person of political power. She’s just normal... or at least normal to a Gallifreyan.
And that’s fascinating because it gives us more of a glimpse into Gallifreyan culture than perhaps any story ever has before. How the machinations of those in power are viewed by the everyday citizens, and how someone who isn’t intended to be a female Doctor clone (sorry Romana fans, but it’s true) would behave.
The dynamic between her and the Doctor is also great. It’s another mentor/student relationship, but its handled really well.
Over all I’m sadden that she’ll most likely wind up as a one off character.
Tumblr media
Anything else? Oh I do like the idea of Time Lords being able to reintegrate to match their environment. That’s cool.
All in all I highly recommend this comic. Especially fans of Martin’s Doctor. Also, the graphic novel version is probably easier to get a hold of. I went for the digital copy myself.

Donald Trump dropped his initial claims of attorney-client privilege governing nearly 100 pages of documents seized at his Mar-a-Lago estate, but disputes about executive privilege remain for three records, according to a filing Monday from Trump and the Justice Department.
The disputes are what the special master, U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie, aims to resolve while reviewing about 11,000 documents. FBI agents seized the records from Mar-a-Lago while searching for evidence of violations of the Espionage Act or obstruction of justice.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon appointed Dearie to determine whether to withhold documents from the Justice Department's criminal investigation because they were personal records or fell under attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.
Trump withdrew his claims of attorney-client privilege for nine documents totaling nearly 100 pages, according to the joint filing from lawyers on both sides. Trump and government lawyers agreed the documents could be turned over immediately to investigators, according to the filing.
The joint filing Monday came after a dustup at a hearing Tuesday, when Dearie encouraged lawyers from both sides to determine where they truly disagree about the status of documents.
Government lawyers said in a filing Thursday that Trump contested nine documents as personal records, including two about immigration he argued also fell under executive privilege.
Six of the nine documents deal with clemency requests, two with immigration and one with a sports program at a military academy.
Trump's lawyers had said Friday the government's list "does not accurately reflect" the former President's position. Trump claimed three documents totaling 19 pages should fall under executive privilege, a policy to keep presidential communications confidential to invite candid advice from aides.
Dearie's review is scheduled to be completed Dec. 16.

A Complete Guide to Powdered Brow Training in Vancouver
The beauty industry continues to evolve, and one of the most popular trends today is powdered brows. Also known as ombré brows, this semi-permanent makeup technique offers a soft, shaded look that gradually transitions from lighter to darker, mimicking the effect of perfectly filled-in brows. If you’re in Vancouver and looking to become a certified powdered brow artist, this guide covers everything you need to know about training programs, what to expect, and how to get started.
What is Powdered Brow Training?
Powdered brow training is a specialized course that teaches aspiring brow artists how to perform the ombré or powdered brow technique. Unlike microblading, which uses tiny hair-like strokes, the powdered brow method involves the use of a machine to create a soft gradient effect that appears fuller and more defined. The training includes both theoretical and practical components, allowing students to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of professionals.
Why Choose Vancouver for Powdered Brow Training?
Vancouver is home to a growing beauty industry with numerous training academies that offer high-quality powdered brow courses. The city’s vibrant community of beauty professionals, combined with access to top-tier trainers and modern facilities, makes it an ideal location for mastering this skill. Moreover, the demand for semi-permanent makeup services like powdered brows is high in Vancouver, offering excellent career opportunities once you’re certified.
What to Expect During Training
Powdered brow training programs in Vancouver typically range from 2 to 5 days, depending on the level of expertise offered. Here’s what a standard training program includes:
1. Theory and Anatomy:
You’ll start by learning the basics of brow anatomy, skin types, and color theory. Understanding how different skin tones react to pigments and how to design brows that suit various face shapes is critical to becoming a skilled brow artist.
2. Health, Safety, and Hygiene:
Health and safety protocols are essential when performing semi-permanent makeup procedures. Training will cover hygiene practices, sterilization, and how to set up your workspace to ensure a clean and safe environment for your clients.
3. Tools and Techniques:
You’ll be introduced to the tools used for powdered brows, including the digital machine and needle cartridges. Training will focus on mastering the ombré shading technique, pigment application, and achieving the desired gradient effect.
4. Hands-On Practice:
The practical part of the training involves working on practice skins and live models. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll refine your technique, learn to control the machine, and develop the confidence needed to deliver high-quality results.
5. Business and Marketing Insights:
Some courses also offer tips on how to start and market your own brow business. From building a portfolio to creating a client base and promoting your services online, this section can be invaluable for those looking to establish themselves in the beauty industry.
Choosing the Right Training Program
When selecting a powdered brow training course in Vancouver, consider the following factors:
Accreditation and Certification: Ensure that the training academy is accredited and offers a recognized certification upon completion. This certification is key to establishing credibility and trust with clients.
Instructor Experience: Learn from seasoned professionals who have extensive experience in both performing and teaching powdered brow techniques. Their expertise and feedback will be crucial in shaping your skills.
Class Size: Smaller class sizes often allow for more personalized attention and one-on-one coaching, which can significantly enhance the learning experience.
Course Content: Look for comprehensive courses that cover everything from theory to hands-on practice and business development.
Reviews and Testimonials: Check out testimonials from past students to gauge the quality of training provided by the academy.
Career Opportunities After Training
Once you complete your powdered brow training and obtain your certification, there are plenty of career opportunities waiting for you in Vancouver. You can work at established salons, start your own brow studio, or even offer mobile brow services. The growing popularity of semi-permanent makeup ensures a steady demand for skilled artists, making it a rewarding and lucrative career choice.
Conclusion
Powdered brow training in Vancouver provides an excellent pathway to enter the booming beauty industry. With the right course, you’ll gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to create stunning, natural-looking brows that your clients will love. Whether you’re new to the field or looking to expand your expertise, Vancouver offers top-notch training options that can help you build a successful career as a powdered brow artist.
