#Corlys' nine voyages

Text
Given the possibility of the GoT spin off, the nine voyages of Corlys Velaryon, being an animation and George being excited about Blue-Eyed Samurai, I find myself thinking about how good the spin off will be! I love the exotic, swirling magic and secrets of the lands of GoT, I love the mysteries, the monsters, the possibilities, treasures and adventures. Finally knowing about his first love, knowing how he lost her and lost half his crew, his successes and failures. Knowing about his romances before finding his "one true love", his princess Rhaenys. I would like it to start with him very young, almost a teenager and for him to age through the seasons. I would like him to have a face similar to Steve's and if Rhaenys appears, she would look like Eve.... see more and more continents and strange lands, different peoples and all this with the freedom that animation provides! AHHHH AND THE SEA MONSTERS?!?... ahhh dreaming costs nothing!

What do you think of the decision of HOTD to give Corlys a bardiche to fight with, as opposed to a sword? I'm trying to think of any similar weapons seen in the show or Game of Thrones and all I can think of is some of the Dornish weapons.
Tumblr media
Uncle is a favorite.
I'm very biased about it, and I love that he didn't fight with a sword.
It is very impractical in the combat they are in at the moment, but I don't care it's excellent.
I do like the Dorne adjacent comparison in this world because they both do intense trading with Essos, and I'd like to think he learned to prefer it on his voyages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But again, it's also entirely his own.
I can't recall a character with anything akin to it and I think it's supposed to be a cool nudge towards the idea that he is different from most noble men who sit at tables to discuss trade. He's lived and learned through it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Euron has one similar to it but show Euron isn't real, and more importantly, his and tyrion's are more aligned to axes rather than the elegant, sexy and classy number Corlys has. Maybe it's a trade known by Essos Sea fairers. But overall, it's his weapon.

The Corlys Velaryon series has moved a step ahead – but as animation. It still has quite a way to go. But animation format significantly reduces costs and makes it more attractive to HBO.
In a newly released blog looking back on 2023, author George R.R. Martin revealed he and HBO have a number of animated series in unofficial development—as in, they haven’t been greenlit yet, but he’s fairly positive they will be—and now one of those shows will be hopping over from the realm of live-action. According to Martin on his Not a Blogblog, the upcoming series Nine Voyages is jumping over to animation, a move he “supports fully.” The reason for the shift is because of budgetary concerns: because half the show is planned to be set in the sea, a live-action version would’ve been “prohibitively expensive,” noted Martin. Animation can also be expensive, but with the medium, he said the show “have a lot better chance” of fully realizing the show. Voyages is set to focus on Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint in Dragon. Corlys is known in-fiction as the Sea Snake, so named because of his ship, which is the most famous of the Velaryon fleet. The show’s scope is pretty big, according to Martin, and is set to span “from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well, on and on and on. There’s a whole world out there.” Again, he’s not 100% sure if Voyages will happen, but if all goes well, it and the other two unannounced animated shows will be in the works and end up on HBO and Max in the next few years. (And if that doesn’t work? Who knows, they may end up as graphic novels, if it can be helped.)
There is no information on number of seasons or number of episodes. Though Lord Corlys undertook nine voyages – so theoretically it could run nine seasons.
Because Steve Toussaint has firmly established himself in that role in House of the Dragon, it seems likely that he would be doing the voice of Corlys in the animation series. Other HotD cast associated with Driftmark could be occasional guests during stays at the home port.

Addam had taken to calling you "wife," and you weren't about to correct him.
You weren't married, you could never find the time, and it wasn't like anyone was raring to go crying to the sept over it. The people of Hull, at least the people you interacted with, rarely made a fuss over such improprieties, and even had the decency to throw a groat or two in your cap whenever you put out a pot of stew for the dockworkers and looked the other way whenever you would curse burning yourself on the cauldron or hock some phlegm in the dirt or take a hearty swig from your flask. Some of the men told you they had never had fish stew that tasted quite like yours did, and you weren't about to tell them your recipe, so your infractions seemed small in the face of loosing out on the way the fish meat would fall apart in your mouth or how the potatoes were always soft but never mushy.
It had only taken Addam one trip to your little makeshift stand for him to start pining after you, gifting you that flask that you now took everywhere. It was made of sturdy leather, with a small seahorse painted somewhat poorly on one side, and it was given to you already filled with spiced rum. You had made sure Addam's portion had extra meat in it that day. The way his face broke into the biggest grin you'd ever seen told you everything you needed to know.
So yes, you weren't married, but he still called you "wife" and gifted you small trinkets and spent meals at your shack and kissed you when he saw you in the morning, as well as other things that were frankly nobody else's business.
Addam had set out early in the morning, just before the sun rose, with his sieve and other tools to go clam digging. You liked that he worked with his hands, and told him as much when he brought up how soft a lord's hands might be and how much nicer they might feel against your skin. You shoved your calloused palms into his, ending the conversation. He let you sleep in, careful to tiptoe around your living space as he collected his wares. He liked the way your kitchen always smelled like the spices he pinched from his brother's trading cog, and how you placed the small curios he gave you around the windows where you could look at them. He had heard of Lord Corlys Velaryon's Hall of Nine, displaying the treasures from his nine voyages, and thought it couldn't be better than the treasures you kept in your windowsill.
There was a chill in the air, a breeze that made Addam pull his tunic tighter around himself. He recalled how the blanket you used was starting to wear thin, and how the sea breeze would wake you soon without him there to keep you warm. The docks of the port town were already filled with men, loading and unloading boxes, taking inventory, haggling prices with the local merchants, the general bustle of seafarers and sailers. Cod and herring were the main catches coming off the fishing boats, and he knew you would stop by later to pick up some to take home.
The beaches were comparatively quiet, with only a few other men digging around for clams. Poking around, he found a few small depressions in the sand, before settling in and getting to work.
The sun was over the horizon by the time you had made your way down to the beach, slightly stale bread in one hand and basket in the other. Addam stuck out a hand to wave you down, and before you had the chance to say anything, he dropped a pale pink shell into your basket. You fished it out, dropping down to sit beside him as you thumbed over the ridges of the body and poked at the spire. You held it up to the rising sun to see the way the colors changed, before pocketing it.
You cut a piece of bread from the loaf, handing it to him. It would be no use in warning him of its staleness, he wasn't like to complain. He took the piece gratefully, as if it was baked by the cooks in High Tide itself, although you could see the effort he had to put in to ripping off a piece in his mouth. You took your thumb and brushed away the crumbs that stuck to his cheeks. His is a handsome face, you thought, one you wouldn't mind letting people think was your husband's. The chill stung at your skin, and you pulled your knit cape close around your shoulders.
Standing up, you shook the sand from your boots and patted down your skirts. You took a swig from your flask, letting the rum warm your chest. Leaning down, you pressed a kiss to your husband's forehead, and he leaned up to press his own to his wife's cheek. While he felt a pang in his chest as you picked up your things and headed into town, he couldn't deny the contentment in watching you. In those moments he felt like he understood the stories of sailors crashing their ships at the sight of beautiful women-beasts, although none of the sailors could ever hope to know the warmth of their hearth or the grit of their sharp tongue, and none could call a beast "wife," so what could the stories know of ship-wrecking love, anyways.

Yan!HOTD CHARACTERS MEETING THEIR SOULMATES
All thanks to @the-mechanical-angel for the idea & credit for prompts to @r-evolve-art
Viserys Targaryen + Meeting soulmate in dream every night
Tumblr media
He was always looking forward to his dreams, looking forward to you. Initially, he believed it might have been one of his visions, one that somewhat always involved you. But he came to understand there were more than just visions.
Whether you two were lying in a flower field or strolling along the beach, Viserys loved the conversations and times he shared with you. The moment he opened his eyes in the mornings caused his desire for you to swell with each passing day. In the dreams, he begged you to tell him where you are, willing to sail to the end of the world just to see you.
The intensity increased when he assumed the throne and realized that you were the only person with whom he felt at peace. The king was allegedly never to be awakened from his sleep by the servants. When there came a day, he looked up across the court and saw you. The lord and ladies all stare in surprise as the king leaves his throne to approach you, cradling your face in his hands, becoming teary-eyed.
Rhaenyra Targaryen + Sharing the same injuries as your soulmate
Tumblr media
Your father brought you along to the coronation ceremony of King Viserys where named his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir. Your father decided to spend a few days at King’s landing, leaving you free to explore the castle. It’s there you could truly meet the princess and befriended her.
During your many walks together, you trip scraping your knees only to hear the princess wince in pain as she lifts her dress, revealing a scrape on her knee. Could it be. It was expected that your soulmate would be a man.
The princess and you exchange a look before she presses her nail into her knee, making you flinch. This all confirms it. You weren’t sure how she would respond, but you weren’t certainly expecting her to reach for your hand, a smile showing on her eager face. Rhaenyra told your father that you’ll be staying at King’s Landing with her from now on. Her father agrees, happy that his daughter made a new ‘friend’.
Daemon Targaryen + Sharing your soulmate’s emotions
Tumblr media
You came to the conclusion your soulmate must be quite a violent person, often feeling their strong emotions-their bloodlust and rage, which left you feeling all the more frustrated. Daemon could feel your frustrations and it left him amused. With you, there was much more happiness in the air. Giving him a taste of what inner peace might be like.
Sitting among your family during the tourney. You felt it. The adrenaline, the unbridled excitement of your soulmate. But this time, the feelings were much stronger that it almost made you feel queasy. It's when the rogue prince comes riding on his horse wearing his black armor, do you make eye contact.
And at that moment, you're sure he knows it's you. Sinking back further into your seat as the rogue prince gives you a smirk. Feeling your chest tighten as his horse got closer to you. His lance is right in front of you and he asks for your favor. And you do it all while he can sense your giddiness. Returning to your seat, you are well aware this isn't the last you'll see of Daemon.
Corlys Velaryon + Soulmate has a constellation that points to where they’re
Tumblr media
During his nine sea voyages, Corlys was said to return with countless treasures. Silk, jade, spice, ships, gold and so much more. But upon his return from Essos, he was said to have returned with what he told to be far more valuable than any of his treasure. When he returned, he had a princess by his side—who now is his wife.
Corlys knew what he wanted. And he set out to pursue it. He observed the constellations in the night sky and learned that the brightest one pointed in the direction of where he needed to be. Upon his arrival to your kingdom, the sea snake requested your hand in marriage.
Once he had seen you. It had to be you. Corlys was certain. The sudden beat in his heart. An unseen string tugging him in your direction. And there, he gave you the most extravagant gifts with a ship big enough to carry half of a village, and a dress so plush that it felt sheer. And how could your father refuse upon seeing such devotion.
Rhaenys Targaryen + Touching your soulmate allows you to see glimpses of their future
Tumblr media
Soulmates. Seemed like a ridiculous notion to Rhaenys. But perhaps that notion was needed. In this world soulmates rarely cross each other's paths. And if they did, it was not as happily as all those tales portrayed over and over again. But what were the chances she’d meet you on this particular day.
After arriving at King's Landing, you spent some time getting to formally know Rhaenys. Many times, having her over for tea. But once, your hands unintentionally brushed against hers. Rhaenys catches a fleeting glimpse. Her hair blown by the wind. Sensing the touch of another. The aroma of salt and seaweed. When the haze clears, a face so eerily similar is seen.
A cup breaking on the ground rouses her senses. A look of worry on your face. You can't help but ask if she's disappointed. Her expression, however, tells you otherwise.
Laena Velaryon + Sharing the same heart beat
Tumblr media
At driftmark, you attended the wedding of Laenor and Rhaenyra. The entire ride, your heartbeat has been slightly racing. It continues to bother you, yet you ignore it. As the door opens, it starts pounding rapidly and intensely, almost flopping in your chest.
As you look at Lady Laena, you feel faint and short of breath. It seems she is also struggling, but her expression remains calm that perhaps you are only imagining things. All eyes are on her when she asks you for a dance. When your hand finally touches her, you feel as though you can breathe again. With each passing second, your body becomes more relaxed and at ease.
As the two of you danced, you tried to hide your awe in the face of her breathtaking beauty. When the dancing comes to a close, she whispers in your ear how she would love for you to spend a few days at Driftmark. There was no way you could refuse.
Otto Hightower + Meeting your soulmate after the worst event in your life
Tumblr media
As any with common sense, Otto believed the concept of soulmates was utter nonsense. Believed duty to far more proceeds one’s desires and whims. And taking a wife who wasn't his soulmate-whom he loved deeply further solidified his convictions.
But all good things come to an end. Now left with the news of his wife's death. Days after, he still carried out his daily duties. That's when he finally took notice of you; a friend of Rhaenyra and Alicent. As soon you walk away, Otto notices his eyes start to follow.
Moments are spent where he'd ask you of your house or day, and soon the subject shifted to more personal manners. Right then and there, Otto understood his feelings, his gravitation towards you. You must not have known. Envisioning someone much more spirited and youthful. Surprise trickled through you when Otto announces his impending marriage and at the sight of Alicent's expression of betrayal.
Alicent Hightower + Soulmate marks are only visible after touching
Tumblr media
In her younger years, Alicent found some solace in the prospect of soulmates, but that all changed when she was made to wed the king. Beginning to scoff at the notion, dismissing it as nothing more than a frivolous dream of little girls.
As she awakens in the morning, a new handmaiden greets her. The queen moves to stand as the handmaiden hastily dresses her. There, she felt fingers graze her skin. An intense stinging pain ran over her body, giving her skin a burning sensation. Holding her wrist. She sees it now. The mark.
A gasp is heard. The handmaiden grasping her own wrist. The implications cause the handmaiden's eyes to enlarge and her mouth to hang open. As they lock eyes, a knife-cutting silence permeates the chambers.
Aegon II Targaryen + A timer for when soulmates shall first meet
Tumblr media
As far as Aegon is concerned, he couldn't care less whether he discovered a supposed soulmate—if they even existed in the first place. Looking at his wrist, the timer indicates a decade or possibly longer. And as he grew older, he became more detached to the prospect. Maybe not even his soulmate would have loved the man he came to be.
A day at the feast, however, Aegon's vacant eyes drifted to his wine cup. Where he saw it. His wrist. His head tilted downward, eyes narrowing when seeing the timer rapidly decrease. Has it been that long since he last looked. His wife speaks, but it is all muddled to him. Eyes glued to his wrist, watching it still go down.
He hears more wine being poured into his cup. And then it happens. 0-Inked on his wrist. Finally, Aegon lifts his head at the servant who had stopped pouring his wine, and the prince is met with a horrified look in return.
Helaena Targaryen + Voices in Your Head is your soulmate’s
Tumblr media
As with her prophecies, Helaena's claims that she had a voice in her head were ignored. Servants have also claimed the princess is often seen smiling or humming to herself.
With Helaena as your soulmate, you come to find her mind constantly wanders, whether it be the ramblings of the many bugs she found or the cryptic messages. Although initially overstimulating, you've adapted to it. And she didn’t seem to mind when you did the same. Your voice is soothing. Was her response when you'd apologize for your mental babbling.
As long as she could still hear your voice in her head, the princess wasn't too concerned about finding you. But all of that changed when first saw you at her court. Her face softened, and her family had never seen her so delighted. And now, you spend most of your time in her chambers when her husband is away.
Aemond Targaryen + One eye is your natural color, the other is your soulmate’s
Tumblr media
It was said the day the prince opened his eyes for the first time, only one violet eye was visible. Clearly seen in the other was his soulmate's eye. His eye will return to its natural color once he meets his soulmate, the master assured his mother. In this world, soulmates hardly ever cross paths. Still, young Aemond caught himself daydreaming about finding you-his other half.
Tragedy struck on the day Aemond claimed Vhagar. Gazing into the mirror with only a violet eye staring back at him. Throughout those years, he was persuaded that he no longer yearned for the dreams he once had. But that day when he first saw you.
There was a momentary expression of surprise. Recognizing the eye he once possessed, the other mirroring his only to return to its natural color. A puzzled look was cast at the one-eyed prince, making him realize you’re oblivious to what had just happened.
Criston Cole + Reflections in the mirrors are the appearances of your soulmate
Tumblr media
As a young boy, Criston had placed a mirror that faced his bed, hoping to catch glimpses of you. You had to be the most beautiful creature he ever laid eyes on-his love, his soulmate, his other half. But his chest tightened when he took in your surroundings and the dress you wore. It told him you were much of a higher status-a lady. But the young idealistic Criston still believed the two of you were meant to be. Destined to be like the knights and their pretty ladies in all the tales he had heard.
Even as he matured into a man, Criston always carried a reflection with him at all times. In his pocket, a mirror was safely tucked away. He pulled it out to look at it, and there, in the palm of his hands, was his soulmate—the center of his universe.
So what a coincidence that he was competing in the tournament where your family must be. There, a knight approaches you with a house sigil you've never seen before; asking for your favor. He was quite handsome, and you couldn't help but feel a twinge of giddiness as you gave him a timid smile. When Criston emerged victorious, he requested one final favor. To be your sword shield. And you agreed, unaware of the consequences that would follow.
Harwin Strong + Touching your soulmate causes you to relieve each other’s entire lives
Tumblr media
At Harrenhal for the visit, you came with your father. Keeping pace with him as they lead you on a tour throughout the castle. There, you first encountered Harwin and Larys Strong, Lyonel Strong's sons. When it was your turn to greet Larys, you greeted him, and when it was Harwin's turn, he took your hand and gave it a courteous kiss.
Then it took place. All sorts of scenes pop in front of your eyes, one of a baby being born, crawling, taking their first steps, and speaking. Watching him grow into a boy, learning to hunt and wield a sword. Everything comes to a close with you facing the man whose entire life you just saw. For everyone else, it lasted only a few seconds, but for you two, it lasted a lifetime.
With his hand still in yours, Harwin now gazes into your eyes. A gaze of longing. When your father asks what's the matter, you pull your hand away from his, reassuring him that it's nothing. Lionel gives you a knowing look. His son certainly won't allow you to leave after this.
Jacaerys Velaryon + Soulmate’s name on each other’s wrist
Tumblr media
On his wrists, read your name. The prospect excited Jace. The idea of unwavering love, being one's other half. He'd study with the Septon intending to learn of other houses, asking them of their daughters. Perhaps he'd find you among them. Only to be left disappointed when your name was never mentioned.
Still, he remains hopeful. He knew his time was limited and that by now he must be betrothed. It's when his arrival at King's landing, did he hear something that perks up his ear as he walks across the hallways. Your name being uttered. Spoken by one of the servants. The said servants are taken aback when Jace approaches them like a madman, asking of the name. One of the servants steps forward. It's you.
The other servants are to leave, leaving just you and him. Reaching for your hand, he sees a cloth wrapped around your wrist. Removing it, he exhales heavily upon discovering his name inked on your skin. It's you. At last, he found you.
Cregan Stark + See color for the first time when you meet
Tumblr media
The wolf of the north never bothered himself with the idea of seeking out a soul mate. More important than love or desire were one's duties. He has long since come to terms with the fact that the world he lived in will always be a shade of gray. When the princess and her brother, Jacaerys Velaryon, arrived on a dragon back.
Cregan’s protracted silence was recognized by everyone in the room. Wide eyes are fixed on the princess and she shares his expression. Colors suddenly flood into their world, and the two are suddenly overcome by the sensations that flooded their minds.
As she and her brother explain their arrival to the situation, the princess's voice is shaking as she still hasn't fully recovered from her recent overstimulation. There’s also a slight waver in Cregan’s voice as he speaks. As he pledged to fight for them, the princess swears she saw his eyes soften for a brief moment.

SJM fans gotta be quiet
Saw some chick on tik tok say some bullshit. "HBO should adapt Throne of Glass instead of giving us more got spinoffs and it could be better than game of thrones."
Delete the app now. Get rid of it. Pack your bags, you're getting sent off to delulu land.
That would be plagiarism if it got adapted. COPYRIGHT, HOE.
I would rather watch George RR Martin take a fat fucking shit in front of my eyes and destroy the damn toilet.
"Don't you like throne of glass?" Yes, I do and I don't care.
Are SJM fans not aware of the world of a song of ice and fire? It's not only game of thrones?? GOT comes from A song of ice and fire (the main series) and House of the Dragon comes from Fire and Blood (basically a history book).
George has written one of the best worldbuilding I've seen in books, Sarah wish she could come up with that. It's so damn beautiful, I could shed a tear. Sarah's worldbuilding got some plot holes, confusing magic systems, and other stuff that don't make sense if you think into it.
Both got weird things in their stories, I can't lie. But George somehow finds a way to mostly have a reason for it (Not all of it though, not all of it. Targs gonna Targ with the inbreeding.) In A Court of Wings and Ruin, there are twins named Dagdan and Brannagh which are incestuous for no reason at all. It says they're sexual partners on the wiki page. Knock off Jaime and Cersei? Wait, that goes to Mor and Cassian. She had no reason for them to be partners like what the hell??
The amount of stories that could be turned into shows (small edit because I fucked up and put stories again)from George's work? That's much more than SJM's. Like we got another show coming out about King Aegon V and Duncan the tall (A knight of the seven kingdoms), one about Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys and the conquest for Westeros, Corlys and his nine voyages (The sea snake). The entirety of Fire and Blood could get adapted on screen.
We could still get shows adapted to the big screen even after George leaves this earth (peepaw is old, I'm worried and hoping he's staying healthy.)
Examples are:
Robert's rebellion
Nymeria's war
Old Valyria and how it came to an end
The Blackfyre rebellions
The Golden Empire of Yi Ti (not much is known on the place so I really want this)
Snow (This was shelved because they didn't have anything to work with, not a shocker)
The Amethyst Empress and the Bloodstone Emperor (she was usurped by her younger brother and when she died, the long night came to the world. Sound familiar?)
The Long Night and Azor Ahai
Great Empire of the Dawn
Maegor's entire reign. It's so wild.
Jaehaerys, Alysanne, and their children. Would love to see that.
They need to stop acting like fools when they say this shit. YOU WOULDN'T HAVE THRONE OF GLASS IF A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE DIDN'T EXIST. REMEMBER WHAT CAME FIRST.
Here's a post I made about throne of glass and asoiaf.
Anyways, that's enough of my yapping. Till then when another Sarah J mASS fan makes me mad✌🏾✌🏾

This interview with Steve Touissant is interesting. (It's about three hours--not kidding--into the video.) He says he didn't read Fire and Blood and didn't know Corlys had bastard children and hasn't quite figured out how to reconcile Corlys' love of Rhaenys with the relationship with Marilda that produced two children.
He thinks some of the Nine Voyages were to "earn" Rhaenys. Leave me here to die.

Do you think Corlys married Rhaenys for ambition? Since she was in line to be heir to the Iron Throne?
I don’t think ambition was the only reason but I’m sure it played a part.
Rhaenys being in the line of succession would actually be an appealing factor for Corlys, not just for his own ambition but because it makes Rhaenys different. It’s typically not expected that a woman can rule in her own right. Other potential female Targaryen claimants have had their claims dismissed one way or another. Then there’s Rhaenys, who from the moment of her birth was called the “queen to be” by Good Queen Alysanne. It was generally accepted that one day she would sit the Iron Throne, after her father, Prince Aemon. Even King Jaehaerys wasn’t questioning this fact at the time like he did for other female claimants. So Rhaenys was considered a woman apart from the rest just as Corlys was a man apart from other men. He accomplished in his life what no others had done so of course he would prefer a partner that would become just as exemplary as him:
Lord Corlys was an ambitious man. During his nine voyages on the Sea Snake, he was forever wanting to press onward, to go where none had gone before and see what lay beyond the maps. Though he had accomplished much and more in life, he was seldom satisfied, the men who knew him best would say. In Rhaenys Targaryen, daughter of the Old King’s eldest son and heir, he had found his perfect match, a woman as spirited and beautiful and proud as any in the realm, and a dragonrider as well. His sons and daughters would soar through the skies, Lord Corlys expected, and one day one of them would sit the Iron Throne.
— Fire & Blood, Heirs of the Dragon
Rhaenys was expected to one day rule Westeros in her own right, something only the Conqueror sisters managed (and that’s through their marriage to Aegon the Conqueror). As the above quote suggests, Corlys was even willing to accept a female heir as his successor since the claim would come from the child’s mother. By marrying Rhaenys, who gets described as his “perfect match”, he would have a wife who would be as much as a trailblazer as him. It’s not so much about Corlys suddenly valuing women’s rights. Instead it’s about him prioritizing those that can be the exception to the rule (just like what he tells Rhaenyra later on).
Rhaenys also has the type of dynamic personality that would attract someone like Corlys. Their back and forth banter at the time of their wedding does suggest a personal closeness between them. I would say they’re a love match for the most part. This is despite the underlying politics concerning Rhaenys’ position in the line of succession (just by virtue of being heir, any man that Rhaenys married would be said to be motivated by ambition).

You know what hit ME THE FUKING HARDEST IN EP 5?!
It was not Corlys' reaction to his wife's death.
It was not Baela telling Corlys that people only saw the wondrous items and coins and wealth he collected from all over the world from his nine voyages, making House Velaryon the richest house in Westeros; even more than the ruling family; yet only few know that it was all for Rhaenys.
It was not Baela and Rhaenyra grieving and sharing stories about Rhaenys.
It was not Meleys'; one of the most majestic and powerful dragons to exist lowered to nothing but her rotting head paraded across the streets.
It was not Daemon going all sexy with a girl conjured in his hallucinations, until he realizes it was his mother. His mother who he never remembered at all.
It was not Daemon's slow unraveling as the riverlords confront him and his deeds including the child murder, and him slowly realizing what the fuck he is doing.
Neither it was Alicent's face after the council rejects her as regent, and it dawns on her how exactly it is and it was for Rhaenyra all her life and during this war, as she realizes the depth of Aemond, her son's depraved plan all along.
No.
No it was after Alicent walking away after staying by Aegon's side for gods knows how long and never having the chance to hear her son calling out for his ''Mummy''.
That shit fucking BROKE me.

Fire & Blood AU ___________________
Characters Part #3:
Tumblr media
Aegon Targaryen

hand holding: #43: raising the other's hand to their lips to kiss it softly for rhaenys/corlys
yay! my new obsession!
Corlys was beginning to grow tired of this exercise. This was the eighth man he had listened to blather on about how great of a seaman he was. All offshoots of second sons in minor houses, these men had never seen real battle. They boasted of fending off a few pirates here and there while shipping someone else's goods from port to port.
He straightened, eye's lighting up as the smaller door to the Hall of the Nine opened and in swept his lady wife with confidence and beauty. She was draped in clothes of the sea green and silver of the Velaryon house; beautiful rich fabric he had brought back for her from Essos.
He rose from the Driftwood Throne to greet her, taking her hand in his own and raising it to his lips to kiss softly. Her lilac eyes met his and she gave him the tightest of smiles. He grinned back at her and then turned his attention back to the sailors in his hall.
"Have none of you ever laid eyes on a Princess before? Pay my wife the respect she deserves" he yelled, and still facing him, Rhaenys rolled her eyes. The men looking to gain favor with the Sea Snake scrambled to scrape and bow at the blood of Targaryen royalty.
"Having fun?" she murmured, low enough for only him to hear.
"Now that you are here." He winked at her and raised his voice for all those in attendance. "Maybe you can help me select a new captain for my fleet, Princess."
Amused, Rhaenys played along. She swept her gaze across the room, taking in all the pompous sailors who were now preening for her attention. Children. All of them. Usually, Corlys already had someone in mind when he put the word out that the Velaryon fleet was recruiting a new captain. It let him see what new blood was out there.
Corlys still had her hand in his own and as her attention to the far right side of the room he gave it a gentle squeeze. There she saw a tall, dark haired man standing in the back, not climbing over the others to grab her attention. He looked pensive, as if biding his time.
"You sir," she called, letting Corlys guide her down off the dais. "From where do you hail?"
"The Stormlands, Princess," the man replied. "Probably from a family you may be familiar with, but not a name to go with it."
A bastard, then. Rhaenys knew better than to discredit that. Her husband would not continue to return from voyages if not for the bastards that served, and saved, him.
"Why would you want to serve House Velaryon?" she asked.
"To see the world, Princess." It was a good answer. One her husband surely appreciated.
"I also have blood in the Stormlands," she replied and raised her husband's hand where they were still joined. "Do you swear to bring my Lord Husband back to me?"
"I swear it."
Rhaenys blessed the man with a smile and then turned back to her husband. He kissed her hand again, his face full of amusement. Then he bellowed, "The Princess has spoken. The rest of you are dismissed."

Restyling House Velayron.
To me, they were done the most dirty in terms of costumes. Older members first because they establish the world the young ones inherited. So they set the fashion of the house.
Corlys Velayron.
For me, the thought is that Corlys is two things, wealthy and beyond the idea of Westeros. He is the sailor of the nine Voyages, the head of the richest House in Westeros. The pleasantries his title should afford are outweighed by his acclaim and place in history. He is a player in the game, but in appearance, he's beyond fairness. Extravagant jewels and patterns from trading and rich materials that scream, we all know the one thing that kept me from that throne.
Tumblr media
Rhaenys Targaryen Velayron
Mother is a Baratheon, a Velayron, and a Targaryen. She's also the style icon of her house. She grew up the seeming heir to the iron throne and is the wife of Lord Corlys. Her ability to play the part of reconciled Princess is only counteracted by her love of Targaryen heraldry. Or the red queen Melyes'. If she is the queen who never was, she should remind them as to why. Her house is also huge in trade. We can’t forget that this is the daughter of Jocelyn Baratheon. She doesn't choose sides, she invokes the memory of Jaehaerys' reign itself.
Tumblr media
Laenor Velayron
Baby Laenor
So baby Laenor doesn't have much of a place of court, but he is Corlys' heir and expected to be a man of the court. So I think he's dripped out like the heir of house Velayron but dressed for the court by Rhaenys. The combination of the best of both his parents.
Tumblr media
Teen Laenor.
Locs grow in 5 years, they grow a lot more than they do in the show and I don't know why Laenor didn't have longer locs. There is this duality that he can't reconcile his sexuality and what is expected of him, but I do think this is when he decides to play the part of an eligible bachelor. Even though he's still a Velayron, he's dressing more like his mom. Big and high hair. Robes and overall Westeros peak fashion. But also pretty boy loc styles. Setting the standard for Lord Consort.
Tumblr media
Adult Laenor.
Okay, so this is the last part. We see Laenor in full dress once, maybe and never again. He's disillusioned from court and what is expected of him. He's dresses still like his position and represents his faction, but he longs to be somewhere he's wanted and belongs. He's isolated from his daily life and is trying his best. He's just a hollow placeholder for his former determined self. This is also the introduction of Velayron head scarves because they look cool.
Tumblr media
Laena Velayron Targaryen
Baby Laena.
So, like everyone else, she is the set standard like her mother and father. She is the richest lady in Westeros. She does her hair in different styles that seem to reflect the dresses she wears, and the dresses she wears communicate her want to travel like her father. When she is presented to Viserys, it's almost a gaudy expression of the house Velayron and heir wealth. With style cues of both Rhaenys and Corlys, her outfit communicates the potential reach of this alliance and all that is at stake. But her hair is still childish, and the style stifles her.
Tumblr media
Teen Laena
Baddest bitch in Westeros is back with her revenge arc. Her hair has evolved but is still ever-changing with both twists that look like locs and hair styles that communicate a maturity from her. Every time you see her because it is at this point you see her with Viserys and at the wedding she is looking like she's in a revenge dress. Her style is more adapted to Westeros with a love of Essos Fabrics and Patterns and corsets that look like the shipwright women of Driftmark. She is also now a dragonrider, so I think that adds to the confidence. She's also the most wanted match to have based on power along. Rider of Vhagar and the only daughter of the house Velayron. We never see her more true to her love of Driftmark. She revels in her wealth and power.
Tumblr media
Adult Laena.
Two things. She's pregnant and she wants to go home. She's a traveller with Daemon, so I don't think she's going out of her way to dress in King's Landing fashion. That's not the way she misses home. She misses her mom, so she has high hair, still with twists instead of locs to symbolise her missing the men and blues and robes because she's in Essos, but she's a Velayron. Big jewels like her father and mother. This is her emulating her family because she wants them, wants her children to be familiar, this is Laena missing her old self.
Tumblr media
Vaemond Velayron.
Uncle Vaemond is a Velayron man through and through. He'd have the smallest locs we'd see because he's on Driftmark and able to maintain it. He dresses in the colours of his house and in the fashion of Pentoshi traders. He's the most Essos leaning man in Westeros you'd see outside of Dorne. He has the freedom of the second son and shows that off in his styles. He is of House Velayron and does not care to appease house Targaryen in their quests for expanding power.
Tumblr media
Next up, we'll follow the style narrative of the young ones

Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen in The Rise of the Dragon
In the 90th year after Aegon’s Conquest, the king and queen shared one of their last good times together, as they celebrated the wedding of their eldest grandchild, Princess Rhaenys, to Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark, Lord of the Tides. At seven-and-thirty, the Sea Snake was already hailed as the greatest seafarer Westeros had ever known, but with his nine great voyages behind him, he had come home to marry and make a family. “Only you could have won me away from the sea,” he told the princess. “I came back from the ends of the earth for you.” Rhaenys, at six-and-ten, was a fearless young beauty, and more than a match for her mariner. A dragonrider since the age of thirteen, she insisted upon arriving for the wedding on Meleys, the Red Queen, the magnificent scarlet she-dragon that had once borne her aunt Alyssa. “We can go back to the ends of the earth together,” she promised Ser Corlys. “But I’ll get there first, as I’ll be flying.” -- Fire and Blood

You know, on the subject of Consanguinity…Luke being so blithely confident that Jace or Joffrey would marry him if Addam said no is actually really hilarious. Not least because they might have some awkward explaining to do if the baby pops out with white hair…
Argh, so sorry this sat in my asks for so long!
If Luke produced a Valyrian-looking kid with his brothers, Rhaenyra would simply be flicking those gaslights on and off again. How wonderful that her sons produced a baby that’s obviously the spitting image of Laenor! She always knew their father’s blood would prevail over their Baratheon heritage eventually; just FYI, this is clearly a sign from the gods that all that bastard talk was vile, vile slander-
(in all fairness, Luke and one of his brothers very well could produce a silver-haired baby through the power of recessive genes, not that Rhaenyra’s aware of that, so not technically a lie…)
But Luke is right to be confident that his family would bail him out no matter what, because all of the following plans in their crackish glory would have been tried before the Blacks ever conceded Luke being ruined:
Luke marrying Jace and being immediately heralded as Aemma’s natural heir as queen (Viserys enthusiastically agrees in front of an open court, which then gets used as major PR ammo when war breaks out)
Luke marrying Joffrey, who will with all a medieval preteen’s knowledge of sex education, blithely insist that he consummated with Luke complete with graphic and physically implausible descriptions of the act itself if any of the Greens hate themselves enough to ask
Luke marrying Rhaena and immediately going on a nine-month honeymoon tour of the Free Cities, during which Rhaena fakes a pregnancy and Luke conceals it. Awkwardly, Rhaena actually does fall pregnant before the first baby arrives, though she rather enjoys telling Aemond without batting an eyelid that the incredibly close gap between births is obviously down to Luke’s virility and insatiable passion for her
Corlys commissioning about 50 fetching portraits of Luke which he shops around to practically every eligible bachelor in Westeros (finally Dalton Greyjoy’s time to shine!), with an offer of doubled dowry if they marry ASAP. They’re a little surprised however to receive an enthusiastic reply from Daeron Targaryen…
Corlys taking Luke on a voyage to Lys in which Luke enjoys a whirlwind courtship and marriage to an incredibly handsome and 100% real nobleman, scout’s honour. Alas, his husband sadly perishes on the journey back to meet Luke’s family, but luckily the devastated (and now attractively widowed) Luke has a child to remember him by before he hits the dating scene again.
Sadly, Addam’s enthusiastic agreement negated any need for such scheming - but have no doubt the Blacks would have been entirely ready and willing to step up for Luke if required.
Which it very well soon will be-
