Day 12 - Cinque Terre (14.01.2023)

Yesterday I met a girl and a boy from Ireland and we spent the evening together. They told me that they want to go to the „Cinque Terre“ on Saturday and asked me if I would like to join. I had never heard about it, but thought why not. The „Cinque Terre“ consists of five old fishing villages on the Italian coast - Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.

So this morning we got up at 06:30 and took the train to the first stop Monterosso. We had such a beautiful view over the sea and the beach was still pretty empty. The sun was just rising and it was breathtaking. The next stop was Vernazza, where we also saw many beautiful and colourful old houses around the fishing port. In Corniglia, the next stop, we had also a nice view over the sea.

Around noon we took the train to Riomaggiore and had lunch there. I had pasta with Pesto Genovese again and it was very delicious. The last stop was Manarola where we saw the sunset and had a cocktail at the coast.

It was such a wonderful day and I‘m glad they asked me to be there.

Cinque Terre

An der italienischen Riviera liegen die Cinque Terre. Das sind fünf Dörfer bzw. Städte, die direkt an der Küste liegen. Wir wollten sie an einem Tag besuchen und sind sehr früh aufgestanden, um den Zug von Levanto nach La Spezia zu nehmen. Mit dem Cinque Terre-Ticket der italienischen Bahn kann man bis Mitternacht mit den Regionalzügen fahren, die stündlich die Städte anfahren. Wir konnten ein- und aussteigen und wenn wir gewollt hätten, hätten wir auch zu Fuß von einer Stadt zur anderen gehen können.

Die Cinque Terre sind die Orte Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola und Riomaggiore. Laut Reiseführer ist Vernazza die schönste Stadt. Ich fand, dass jede der Städte ihren Reiz hatte. Allerdings wurde unser Besuch von dem schweren Erdbeben in Marokko überschattet, so dass wir die Städte, die Gebäude, die Natur und die Strände leider nicht genießen konnten. Ich kann aber jedem empfehlen, das Zugticket zu kaufen, da man so die größtmögliche Flexibilität hat.

In einem Reiseführer haben wir gelesen, dass es einen Wanderweg von Monetrosso nach Riomaggiore gibt. Dieser soll 12 km lang sein und einen leichten Schwierigkeitsgrad haben. Ich habe mir aber Teile des Weges angesehen und bei der sengenden Hitze und Höhenunterschieden von bis zu 220 m kann es für Ungeübte schon anstrengender werden. Wenn man sich dafür entscheidet, sollte man mit 5 Stunden rechnen, ohne die Zeit für den Besuch der 5 Städte.
