1917 01 04 Von Richthofen's 16th victory - Thomas La Padula
Richthofen's 16th Victory.
The First Canadian pilot to fall under the guns of the Red Baron was Flight Lieutenant Allan Switzer Todd. As part of the Royal Naval Air Services, 8th Squadron, Todd was flying a Sopwith Pup, No. 5193 on January 4, 1917. Todd and his Squadron were sent to the Somme Front to counter the aggressive activity of the German Albatros aircraft. The British pilots attacked aggressively when Richthofen’s Jasta arrived on the scene. So much so that Todd \pilot \out the Red Baron and began his attack. Unfortunately, as Richthofen puts it,” the enemy plane was superior to ours. Only because we were three against one, we detected the enemy’s week points. I managed to get behind him and shoot him down.”
Todd’s plane fell apart while falling through the sky, landing in the vicinity of Metz-en-Couture. Cause of death was either from gunshot wounds or crash trauma. Some valuables of Todd were collected by the Germans and returned. Over time his gravesite became lost due to the turmoil of war. Todd’s name is on the Arras Memorial to the Missing.
Two days after shooting down Todd, Richthofen received a telegram from the Kaiser. It read simply: ‘His Majesty, the Kaiser, has awarded the Orden Pur le Merite to Leutnant von Richthofen’. The Orden Pur le Merite could be awarded to any military officer regardless of his branch of service, however its most famous recipients were German Pilots during the Great War. The medal was to be worn whenever the recipient was in uniform. Informally known as the Blue Max, it was supposedly given that name in honor of the German ace Max Immelman, who awarded the medal on the same day in 1916 as Otto Boelcke, Richthofen’s mentor. Originally given for 8 Aerial Victories the number was later raised to 16 in early 2017.It was awarded to Richthofen on January 12, 1917. It was Prussia’s highest Military award, and it was awarded to MvR for the successful confirmation of shooting down 16 enemy planes.

The Couture Bridal Fantasy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On her wedding day, it is every bride's dream to feel the most beautiful that she has ever felt in her lifetime. And sometimes, to feel like your most beautiful self, one has to step outside of the conventional and into the fantastical. Dropped waists and "angelic silhouettes" were identified by Brides magazine as trends spotted during the New York Bridal Fashion week this year, harkening back to the ideas of the historical and the fantastic. Three couture bridal companies: Cinq, Danielle Frankel, and Nicole + Felicia, are exploring the collaboration of the historical and the fantastic with their breathtaking and groundbreaking Spring 2025 Bridal Collections, displayed earlier this month at New York Bridal Fashion Week.
The first image is from Nicole + Felicia's Spring 2025 collection, which has the overarching theme "Wonderland" to encompass the wonder and magic of a bride's wedding day, while also making a callback to the "Alice in Wonderland" book series, about a young girl who enters a world of absurd fantasy. Nicole + Felecia, a sister-owned brand, is most well-known for making couture gowns for celebrities, including ballgowns for Taylor Swift's "Eras" tour and red carpet looks for Jennifer Lopez and Janelle Monáe, though they have been designing bridal collections since 2018. This look, labeled simply as "Look 4" features a dramatic ballgown silhouette and detachable leg-of-mutton sleeves. These details invoke the past while also creating a sense of modernity alongside the fantastical with the ultra-deep v neckline, creating balance and yes, wonder.
Danielle Frankel's bridal wear has exploded in popularity since opening launching her brand in 2017, being worn by celebrities such as Julia Garner, Alexandria Daddario and AnnaSophia Robb. According to a Vouge Australia article from October 2022, the brand has become the "go-to for cool girl brides" and the "Cora" look pictured above exudes the "cool girl" aesthetic, with a "draped soft tulle bodice with swagged sleeve and hand painted floral illusion tulle overlay" the modern and the fantastical are balanced here in an unexpected and exciting way, a treat for the bride who wants to indulge in the fantastical and unconventional. There is something Grecian about many of Frankel's looks, and the "Cora" is no exception, with the column-esque silhouette and intentional draping reflecting a respect for fashion history while also playing around with modern elements. The exposed midriff and pants that this look comes with push the boundaries of what bridal wear can be.
Cinq's fourth collection (stylized as IV) had a truly breathtaking presentation at New York Bridal Fashion Week, inviting guests into an intimate dinner party setting for their fashion show, and allowing them to indulge in the fantasy of their new collection. From the home page of their website, the brand identifies their philosophy: "For centuries human beings have taken part in rituals, marriage being one of the most sacred and coveted. Cinq was created for the bride that connects on an emotional level to her gown, it’s not just the dress .. it’s a precious, fleeting moment in time.. it’s the feeling when she’s wearing it.. it’s the moment of reflection. The Cinq bride emanates a unique progressive nostalgia combining vintage silhouettes with modern details. Dressed in a garment that stands as an ode to the past poised for the future - detailed to cast a moment into memory, for her."
Overall, it's clear from these stunning looks that the modern couture bride wants to indulge in her fantasies when shopping for her dress. However, be warned, these looks will cost the bride (or whoever is paying for the dress) a pretty penny. "Cora" retails for just under 6 thousand (one of the less pricey Danielle Frankel gowns), with Nicole + Felicia and Cinq gowns coming in at around similar price points. However, these are prices that many brides are willing to pay in order to get to live out their own personal fantasies on the day of their wedding, a day that is often regarded in our collective mindset as a day that should be full of magic, romance, and whimsy, all of which can be elevated by the "perfect" dress choice.

The sewing machine as a lifeline
By Maya Freitas
Tumblr media
(Copyrights: photo by Patrick Fouque)
Sami Nouri is humble, determined, and successful. From Afghanistan to the Fashion Week, this 26-year-old refugee is now nicknamed "the little prince of fashion".
Abandoned at the age of 14 by a smuggler in the city of Tours, the young Sami Nouri has lived from home to home, from family to family but does not keep bad memories of his childhood. On the contrary, the latter will be forever grateful for the benevolent help he has always received.
A course with spectacular looks A spectacular course
Trained at the school of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne (ECSCP), the young Franco-Afghan is quickly propelled to recognized couturiers. It was at the British stylist John Galiano that Sami Nouri began the creative stage; a universe that would allow him to be subsequently spotted by the unmissable Jean Paul Gaultier. The young designer often talks about Jean Paul Gaultier's confidence in him. The young designer often talks about the trust/confidence Jean Paul Gaultier had in him.
Learning the language and alphabet is essential to obtaining a diploma, Sami Nouri is aware. Sami Nouri is aware that learning the language and the alphabet is essential to obtain a diploma. When he arrived in France, he knew nothing except sewing, passed down from his father. But his dream of being able to go to school makes him a student, certainly struggling with history and general culture, but with the sole objective: to obtain his professional certificate diploma. "If I fail my exam, I will retake it as many times as I need to get it, as many times as it takes to pass. In Europe, diplomas count almost more than know-how. »

A brand, an illustration of its values and history
Sami Nouri will never forget how much fashion has been of great help in his many struggles. For this purpose, he has only one idea in mind: to make women masters of their dignity. What he wants above all is to enter in symbiosis with them and no longer make women an object enslaved to the desires of men, marketing, photographers ...
Thanks to his perfect mastery and his desire to work, Sami Nouri knew how to be surrounded by the right people such as political figures such as Jean-Pierre Raffarin, or Chadi Sleiman, a great figure of the Parisian bar. A much-needed entourage that allowed him the birth of Sami Nouri Paris in 2017, his own label. The signature of the little prince of fashion stands out thanks to a discreet fragment of barbed wire present in his creations, recalling his passion for freedom. This freedom he found in France, his country of integration to which he wants to pay tribute by creating only made in France products. Sami Nouri Paris respects a condition that its creator will never transgress: a luxury of quality, a quality luxury, accessible to a wide audience because he knows how little rare money can be.

A momentum that is not about to stop
« Patience is a tree whose root is bitter and whose fruits are very sweet. ». Sami Nouri has long been inspired by this Persian proverb since he was born on March 31, 1996, in Afghanistan. Among the many dangers he went through as a child, the young prodigy aims to take his vision and creations beyond borders. As the latter puts it, (which is the perfect illustration): "it is not because we do not have money that we can not succeed in life! ".
The thirst for work that the young creator shelters allows him to be a jack of all trades The young creator's thirst for work allows him to be a jack of all trades. The examples are numerous: his book published by Robert Laffont entitled La machine à coudre retracing his history, the planned release in 2023 or 2024 of the film of his life whose script is co-written (Franco-American production) or his contribution during the exhibition on François Boucher (painter of Louis XV and favorite of Madame de Pompadour) at the Museum of Fine Arts in Tours, scheduled for early November.
Sami Nouri knows that he will not succeed in changing a country such as Afghanistan, but he intends to put women at the heart of his messages and to restore her greatness and freedom.

Streetwear brands in collaboration with high luxury designer brands.
Written by Adriana Gallardo
Hello, Adriana here!
As previously mentioned, most of our blog and about 'Lucky Fortune' is solely based on indie and urban brands known for an inclusive target market.
This week we’ll be going through some of our favorite fashion archives of collaborations with brands we’ve been fortunate enough to have inspired all of us.
In 2023, as social media consumers, we start to pay close attention and notice what the future holds for these fashion brands. It's by scrolling through our Social Media feeds and taking notes on what is trending. We start to notice high fashion brands collaborating with brands with streetwear brands. It's interesting, because these urban brands may have less exposure and sold at a low price point. We can understand what these collaborations may do for the consumer. It may convince them to invest themself into a limited edition item and be the first to have it. Let's talk about it.
Moncler Maya 70 by Palm Angels® FALL 2022
Tumblr media

Thought we've seen it all? When this collaboration dropped, it seemed to have light up the consumers world with new and behold features this down-filled jacket had to offer.
This collaboration became available to the public and website October 15, 2022 on moncler.com.
Francesco Ragazzi is the founder and designer of Italian streetwear brand Palm Angels. Ragazzi was working for Moncler in 2015, eventually becoming its creative director later in 2018.(BoF)
“We worked with an optic fiber that lightens up. For me, metaphorically, this meant to shed light on the future, literally putting the spotlight on it.” In order to illuminate Moncler’s future, Ragazzi worked with the brand’s technical expertise, as the technology used in the jacket. (HighSnobiety)

Gosha Rubchinskiy x FILA 2017
Here we have Kendall Jenner seen in Gosha Rubchinskiy x FILA graphic t-shirt in Paris fashion week.
Kendall is an example of someone that we define her style as 'urban streetwear'. She has the look of someone who didn't try hard to throw on a chic, but casual outfit and is ready to walk the streets confidently.

Supreme x Louis Vuitton FALL/WINTER 2017
Tumblr media
The whole world was shocked when the American clothing brand Supreme, known for skate-wear, teamed up with Louis Vuitton and made its way on the runway. Louis Vuitton x Supreme crossbody bag as seen on Hailey Bieber.

Supreme x Burberry SS 2022
We may know now, this isn't Supremes last collab with high end luxury designer. We are seeing this become a trend for both iconic brands, every couple years with little marketing schemes behind it. What we do know is that, we are only able to get our hands on these drops by buying resell these days. As soon as it drops on Supremes website, it is sold out within minutes.

DIOR x STÜSSY FALL 2020
During the Pandemic we were still seeing fashion runway shows being celebrated into more for comfort, practicality, but for style as well.
Two creative brands and our personal favorite.

VETEMENTS x Canada Goose FALL 2016
An unexpected collaboration that made into the runway was VETEMENTS x Canada Goose
It is awesome to see a European brand like VETEMENTS to have reworked the down-filled puffer jacket and make it couture with a brand made for only specifically for outerwear.

What is more to come from high fashion brands?
We are totally seeing clothing become inclusive for men and women. We love to see urban clothing worn as unisex. Here we have a Instagram post of Jeremy Scott, creative designer of Moschino wearing his two-piece set collab with skate-wear brand PALACE. (Photo on the left)
We have the same outfit worn by Russian model Irina Shayk in New York City casually strutting outside. Worn with a white crop top and a statement orange handbag. (Photo on the right)

Read the full article
