So, CrimeCraft came out sometime recently….ya……. For those who are unfamiliar, it is a third-person shooter game with an MMO design. I beta tested this game, and came away completely unimpressed. From what I remember, the game was supposed to be free, with options to purchase items, ala Battlefield Heroes. Apparently during the course of development, the brainiacs at Vogster decided that they would charge full price for the game, throw in a monthly fee, plus luxury items that could be purchased to enhance your experience.

The game is less like a traditional MMO, and more like Guild Wars, where the towns are lobbies for you to gather quests and see other people. The actual fighting is instanced, with a maximum of 16 players and bots that fill in the space. Most likely because there won’t be 16 people at a time playing the game. The actual fighting is pretty standard stuff, nothing really new or groundbreaking from what I saw. The death sentence for me was that I never saw anything that made me want to play this game versus other shooters, or even free to play FPS games like Combat Arms. Plus, most modern shooters have some MMO traits to them, so the question I had while playing this is why does this game need to exist? With the addition of all of these fees, who is going to play this game? Who is in charge that sees this game being successful? This totally has Fury written all over it, it will go free to play in a few months, and then shut down within a year. But then again, I could be way off. I mean, the game has “Craft” in it, so it has to be good.
