eeeeee ok so i decided to write a lil oneshot of the chain as cryptids au, with a little bit of self projection onto wild- (i made him autistic and use they/them - slighting non binary coded on accident🙏 which i hope is ok, i just got carried away)

Gift giving

Cryptid!wild + Cryptid!hyrule bonding <3

Wild was, well- wild. He didn’t take kindly to being forced into a box, some would call them a man because he looked like it, when in reality wild was just wild. Not a ‘man’ or ‘woman’- just wild. He was also told by strangers, whenever in one of their brothers hyrules, they would get caught into conversations somehow and were told that they were rude for not making eye contact and moving around- when in reality that just meant they were paying attention! Hylians were just weird! When wild joined the chain of strange heroes, he felt like an outcast in some ways, these were all beings who knew how to interact with each other, wild liked cooking for them, it was wilds way of showing they cared and did want to be friends, which was not something he normally did, but you know- when your forced to travel with people Sometimes, they would find a stream, and practice facial expressions and giving eye contact, but they’d get lost focusing on the fish darting into their reflection. The stream was going at a slow pace, but the sounds of it rippling through itself was nice. The sounds of the forest creatures coming by to drink the cold water and leaving just as quick made the atmosphere just as good. Eventually sky had came by, probably to come get me to make dinner. 

“Everything alright?”

He chirped, crouching beside me. His wings folded in on himself as to not hit me into the river, since he did have past accidents of doing so. I nodded, my antennas swaying in the wind, i watched the stream carefully, picking out the patterns in the way it moved downstream, i think wind would’ve liked to sink into the water, it was deep enough to sit in. Sky was probably going to say something else, but i saw the sun hit something just right in the water that made it sparkle. I immediately dunked my hand in, making sky jump at my sudden movement, i got whatever it was, and tugged it out of the soil. I shook my hand dry, and found that i had grabbed a bracelet, with sea patterns, strange runes on it, and opal gemstones engraved into it.

“Ohh cool! I wonder what it does! We should ask legend! He might know since it seems ocean themed and he’s a merman of sorts”

Sky ecstatically ushered me to follow him back to camp, so when we got back, sky darted to legend. He had dragged him over, and legend carefully examined the metal bracelet.

“Looks like something to keep you from getting wet, the bracelet i assume is something that can absorb water into the opal gems that would originally get in your clothes or skin and keeps it dry.”

He explained, handing the bracelet back to me. I nodded, smiling softly. If there was one thing i knew, is that hyrule didn’t like getting wet in his fairy form, and he was the few people I’d yet to truly interact with for longer than a few conversations. I knew he was out and about, but i didn’t know where- i decided to wait, sitting patiently in a tree as i swung back and forth repeatedly by my legs on a sturdy branch. Hyrule came back a couple minutes later, with wood in his arms. He set them down and sat next to legend, sparking up a conversation. I didn’t want to interrupt, but hyrule needed to have it! Even if wild did really want it, hyrule would like it more and find better use for it. I hopped down, small bells and chimes sounding from no where as i basically bounced over to where hyrule was sitting. I stood near his field of view, trying to find a pause in their conversation to make movement and get his attention. For a couple seconds, it was quiet between them, and hyrule looked to me. 

“What’s up?”

He softly questioned me, raising a brow. My antennas flicked as i registered his question, and i remembered why I’d been standing there. I extended the bracelet to him, he was a bit taken aback, but smiled and took it. 

“Thank you wild! What is it?”

He tilted his head, looking to me again. I waved a hand to legend, trying to ask him to explain- which he got the memo. 

“Oh! Wild gave you a bracelet that helps keep you dry, it seems the opal and runes engraved on it give it magical properties to keep water off your skin and clothes.”

He explained once more, pointing to the engravings and opal gems he was talking about. Hyrules wings fluttered slightly, in which i hoped was joy, he turned to me and smiled even wider than before. 

“Thank you! This means a lot, since i know you like to hoard things like this, and you’re willingly giving it up for me.”

He sounded slightly guilty in his tone, which i managed to pick out based off his head bowing. I waved a hand in front of his face to get his attention, my antennae’s flattened as i scowled at him.

‘Give you, make me happy, you happy’

I signed to the best of my ability, getting my whole gesture across. He nodded, smiling again. 

“Thank you, again-“

He laughed softly, it sounded energetic, which meant he was happy. That cheered me up, Hyrule hopefully knew i wanted to be best friends now, maybe even brothers! Like how he would refer to legend or wind. Wild knew he would’ve liked the bracelet, but this was a better choice.

Pre-Calamity:

Link: I am a very quiet, reserved individual. I'm very skilled with a sword, incredibly well-mannered and respectful.

Zelda: I am an eloquent princess who is regal and authorative, despite it not being the true me. Even when I am allowed to let loose a little, I'm still a little distant and contained.

Post-Upheaval:

Link: I'm a 100+ year old cryptid with Tony Hawk syndrome who has stabbed not one but TWO world ending calamities in the face. My hair has not been brushed in a hundred years, I eat stuff off the ground, my arm glows sometimes, and I run around bare-ass naked for the hell of it. I'll kill Ganondorf with a stick. I will.

Zelda: I am a 20,000+ year old cryptid and at this point being the goddess reincarnate is the least weird thing about me. I made Link eat a live frog once and I probably have eaten many more, for science. I probably cut my hair with a bokoblin fang. I do my homework at the bottom of a well like a goblin. I ate a rock once. I also willingly stabbed myself in the head with a sword. Ganondorf made a puppet of me that appeared and disappeared randomly saying ominous shit all over Hyrule and nobody questioned it because I'm apparently Just Like That Sometimes. I introduced ancient hylians to the iphone. I will turn myself into a worm. Don't even test me I will turn myself into a worm right now.

Kroelian RALTS, KIRLIA, GARDEVOIR, Mega GARDEVOIR, GALLADE & Mega GALLADE RALTS, KIRLIA, GARDEVOIR & Mega GARDEVOIR are Ghost/Psychic type GALLADE & Mega GALLADE are Ghost/Fighting type

RALTS is based on a Yurei, a traditional japanese ghost, they can be found wandering during the nights and when they found a person they like, they will start following them from afar, they can do this for hours, and even follow them home

KIRLIA is based on 2 Yokai, a mix of the Rokurokubi, the long necked female yokai and Taka-Onna, a yokai that could stretch her body to spy through windows, this pokemon likes to spy people it likes through their windows, stretching their necks to reach them if they are too high, some people say their necks cant stretch several stories high.

GARDEVOIR is based on the modern urban legend of Hachishakusama, the 8ft tall woman, it likes to follow people around, specially children which she protects and play with Mega GARDEVOIR is inspired in the RE8 character of Alcina Dimitrescu who is also partially inspired in the Hachishakusama legend, so it felt right, like gardevoir it also likes to follow and protect children, but it is more aggresive when it comes to protecting them, being able to stretch its fingers into long sharp claws

GALLADE is based on a mix of the Noppera-bō, a faceless yokai that likes to scare people, and the urban legend of slenderman, to mirror GARDEVOIR being based also in a modern urban legend Mega GALLADE is based on the Gashadokuro, a giant skeleton yokai, mostly to keep the theme of being really tall, it is even taller than Mega GARDEVOIR

So in TotK (and I think BotW) Link will hum the game music when he’s cooking, from all the other games

And I know why they did it, it’s for us, it’s a callback

However:

Link can hear the game music

And I don’t mean just he’s heard someone play the songs somewhere else

I mean our favourite little cryptid hylian can hear all the game noises in world

So when he finds an item, Link and only Link hears the item pickup noise. He hears the monster ambush noise, he hears every sound cue in the game as it happens

No one else can hear these environmental sounds around them, when they’re triggered

They can hear Link’s humming

If he hums the item pick up jingle, they look around expecting to find something

If he hums the shrine opening noise they look for a door

Link did not do it maliciously at first, but… well, one day he was humming the fight music

And everyone around him got real tense and on edge and couldn’t explain why

Because it’s the first time they’ve ever heard that tune, but their subconscious knows what it’s supposed to mean

All the sound cues work like that; Link hears them every time, and if he makes the noise everyone else expects the cue

How much he intentionally commits crime with this new power is up to you

Toyotama-hime – Wani (Dragon) Goddess disguised as a human

Wani was a dragon or sea monster in Japanese mythology. Wani is discribed as "crocodile", or sometimes "shark".

Toyotamahime (See) is a goddess in Japanese mythology. Daughter of the sea god Watatsumi, she was said to reside in a dragon palace. Their palace was as if made from fish scales and supposedly lies undersea. Her true form was “Yahiro no Owani (meaning giant crocodile, approx. 24 m long)”, and she was the wife of Hoori (See2), is known as the epitome of human–animal marriage tales. She was the mother of Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto (See3), father of Emperor Jinmu (the first Emperor: See4), and sister of Tamayori-hime (See5), the Emperor's mother.

Toyotamahime makes a fateful meeting with the demigod prince, Yamasachi, also known as Hoori ("Fire-Subside"). They married and lived happily in the dragon palace. 3 years later, she and her husband Hoori, who missed home, went ashore to give birth.

She then warned her husband, "All people from other parts of the world give birth in the form of their native country when giving birth. So I will give birth to a child in my true form”, and requested Hoori not watch how she gives birth. Hoori, however, was pazzled and peered in on his wife as she was giving birth, and saw her crawling around as a giant crocodile of about 24 metres (79 ft) long. He then startled in shock and retreated. Toyatama-hime learnt that being witnessed her true form by her husband, "I have always intended to pass through the path of the sea," she said, "but I am ashamed that you should have observed my true form.” She blocked the sea path, leaving the child behind and left.

トヨタマヒメ 〜人間に変身する和邇 (龍) の女神

和邇は、日本神話に登場する龍または海の怪物のことである。和邇は「ワニ」、ときには「サメ」と表現されることもある。 

トヨタマヒメ（参照）は、日本神話の女神である。海神ワタツミの娘で、竜宮城に住んでいると言われている。その宮殿は魚の鱗でできたようなもので、海中にあるとされる。その正体は「八尋の大和邇（やひろのおおわに: 体長約24mの巨大な鰐の意）」で、ホオリ（参照2）の妻であったことから、異類婚姻譚の典型として知られる。神武天皇（初代天皇: 参照4）の父である鵜葺草葺不合尊（うがやふきあえずのみこと: 参照3）の母であり、天皇の母である玉依姫（たまよりひめ: 参照5）の姉である。

トヨタマヒメは、半神の王子ヤマサチ、通称ホオリと運命的な出会いを果たす。二人は結婚し、竜宮城で幸せに暮らしたが、3年後、故郷が恋しくなった夫のホオリとともに出産のために陸に上がった。

その時、トヨタマヒメは夫に「すべて他国の者は���を産む時になれば、その本国の形になつて産むのです。それでわたくしももとの身になつて産もうと思いますが、わたくしを御覽遊ばしますな」と忠告した。ところが夫のホオリはその言葉を不思議に思い、妻が今盛んに出産している最中に覗いてみると、八丈 (約24m) もある長い鰐になって這いずり回っていた。そしてホオリは畏れ驚き退いた。しかるにトヨタマヒメは夫が窺見した事を知り、御子を産み置いて去った。「わたくしは常に海の道を通つて通おうと思っておりましたが、わたくしの形を覗いて御覽になつたのは恥かしいことです」と言い、海の道をふさいで帰ってしまった。
