Green Jay (Cyanocorax yncas)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"looks cool :)" "Green bird!"
So apparently there are two subspecies of Green Jay, which are the Green and Inca morphs. I never knew the Inca morph existed until now. Their range map has me thinking these are two different species, as the Green morph occurs in Mexico and Central America while the Incan morph is in South America. The species in non-migratory as well. I think theyre undergoing a speciation event.
All of my own speculation aside, the general habits and habitat of the Green Jay remain the same. They're a social species, which means kids from the previous year's nests hang out with their parents to help guard the territory. The parents are truly monogamous, staying together even after the breeding season.

Green Jays (Cyanocorax luxuosus), family Corvidae, Laguna Seca Ranch, Edinburg, Texas, USA
Some ornithologists consider the Green Jay to be a subspecies of the Inca Jay, C. yncas, but most now consider the Green Jay to be a separate spceis.

Love Yourself
Tumblr media
I had always heard phrases like "Love yourself", about self-love and all that. But what does it mean to love yourself? For me it's how you treat yourself, how you perceive yourself, if you feel grateful to be the way you are and love yourself AS YOU ARE.
I understand that now, but a few years ago I used to say I loved myself, but if I gained a few pounds I suddenly didn't like what I saw in the mirror, if I saw my stretch marks or cellulite I despaired. And so on with many other aspects of my body.
Was I really loving myself? Or was I just loving my version of "beauty" that I saw as so accepted by society, and when I fell out of it I suddenly had to look for any way possible to get back to it? That's not self-love to me. Of course it's important to me to exercise and stay healthy, but now I understand that I shouldn't do it from the urgency and anguish of going back to how I looked before in the mirror.
This is my reminder of love for myself and all my versions, because they have all helped me grow and move on. The birds are the Querrequerre or "Cyanocorax yncas" that usually come to my window to say hello.
