Usually, a roof may need repairing if a homeowner can spot mould or watermarks on the ceiling or cracked, peaked, creased, or pulling-up roofing material. Is the roofing 15 years or older? It may be time to replace the old roof.

Okay. Today’s the day I try to restore power to the garage (and replace a shorting light switch in the basement because two birds one stone). It’s a reasonable temperature outside today so it won’t kill me to have the ac off for a while given I cut the main under an over abundance of caution to not be electrocuted. Going now to buy new breakers...
Wish me luck!

Well, this one's on the market again. 1969 4bd, 4.5ba dome in Killington, VT needs some work. Shingles are falling off the roof and some windows need attention, but the inside is kind of spacy, so if you like that look, you'll like this home. $397K. Killington is a very popular ski resort area, so you can always rent it out.
Tumblr media
The Hobbit door is cute, but the floor is really worn.
Tumblr media
Nice little entrance foyer before you enter the living area.
Tumblr media
It's cute. Take the stairs in the tower up, and the fire pole down.
Tumblr media
The carpet has holes right thru to the floor, so it needs replacing. Weird little corner stairs.
Tumblr media
So here in this area there's a swing and I don't know why they have a ladder going up that cabinet.
Tumblr media
The living room is pretty spacious. It has rustic poles and beams, which is odd for a space ship motif. I don't know if the windows are frosted or just dirty.
Tumblr media
There's a central round fireplace, but it looks like a DIY. The carpet looks glued to cement flooring, so replacing it is a big expense.
Tumblr media
The next space is the kitchen.
Tumblr media
The dining area has a DIY chandelier made of green bottles.
Tumblr media
The kitchen is nice in crisp blue and white. Looks to be in good shape.
Tumblr media
The washer/dryer is located in the kitchen.
Tumblr media
Working our way around, we're coming to a game room. Geez, this carpet. How did it deteriorate like that? Is it from moisture? Maybe dry rot?
Tumblr media
This is a flex space.
Tumblr media
And, this space looks like an extension of the kitchen, like maybe a pantry, but it's more of a utility area right now. I would put the w/d in here.
Tumblr media
The doors in the blue thing open to a bathroom, and the door across the way is a sauna.
Tumblr media
The bath.
Tumblr media
The sauna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, we're on the 2nd level in the bedrooms. This looks like the primary. Has room for a little sitting area.
Tumblr media
Funky retro 1/2 bath with cool blue fixtures and another rotted carpet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second bedroom has a sink, for some reason, and note the heater. That would indicate that the room is cold.
Tumblr media
Oh, here we go. This bedroom has the missing glass, the windows are covered with wood pieces.
Tumblr media
Here we are on the mezzanine overlooking the ugly utility area. The stairs in that tower actually go up to a 3rd level. We can see that the ceiling needs repair.
Tumblr media
It's unfinished up here and looks like it needs repair.
Tumblr media
Why would they cut the wall there? They were doing some work up here, but it doesn't look like they got very far.
Tumblr media
Looking down you can see the top of the fireplace chained for stability. Maybe when it's windy, it shakes?
Tumblr media
The home is on almost an acre of land, at .95 acre.

I PROCLAIM A SALE!
Prints. Bookplates. Journals. Sketchbooks. PATCHES. Planners. COMMISSIONS?! Fandom. Queer shit. How-to for making your OWN books. Books for your spells, recipes, fanwork, and next great novel. It’s ALL going on sale.
Quick info: - sale lasts through Jan 23, 2023 - go to https://ko-fi.com/ajollyyarn - COUPON FOR IN-STOCK INVENTORY: 30N2023 - COUPON FOR COMMISSIONS: 30OFF2023 - ko-fi tips and memberships are also open, but not discounted
Literally all inventory and all commissions, including things previously discounted, are included. I’ve never run a sale (that I remember) this big, or with such a big discount.
Commissions? You want? I will make prints, books, books with prints, planners, custom bookplates, bookmarks, you contact me about it, you got it. If it’s not already in the commission section, just reach out to me. I want to talk. Commissions are fun and I already frankly undercharge for them. Plus there’s now a DISCOUNT.
Why am I doing this? Real talk? Only for you, tumblr.
See, I had to get some very expensive medical tests done that I am required to pay off in a very short amount of time, because what they are and how American health insurance isn’t helping me. I have more major medical procedures likely coming up, and I’m currently in physical therapy. None of that is cheap, and the physical therapy is interfering a little with my other, already part-time, job.
Also, this week some “someday I’ll fix it” problems with our house became “no, this needs fixed ASAP actually” problems. Our roof needs replaced and some other repairs, and a door needs replaced. Again, all expensive, often requiring up-front or upon-delivery payment, and it’s the beginning of winter here.
I am looking for another job, but that process takes time. So we’re doing a BIG SALE! 30% OFF! WOOO!
eta: I’m sorry, I only do shipping within the US since I moved off of etsy. There is a DIY bookbinding PDF available, and I could do PDF commissions if you’re outside the US and interested in something.
Check it out! Spread it around! Tell your friends and your mom!

Moving on
19-06-2023
It's official: I'll be heading to Te Waipounamu, Aotearoa's South island, in two weeks! I've booked a spot on the Bluebridge ferry that will take me and Elrond across Raukawa Moana, from Te Whanganui-a-tara to Waitohi. I'm not sure where I'll be going from there, and I don't intend to make plans. It will be just me and the road, which is both extremely exciting and a little daunting.
In the meantime I've been working on Elrond. I had a small list of repairs and improvements that grew bigger with every hatch I lifted. Whenever I fixed a minor thing, I discovered at least two more problem areas. For example, the brakes had felt a little off in the test ride, so my friend and I jacked up the car and leaked excess air out of the brake fluid. When testing the brakes again after that they felt better, but we discovered the parking brake pads were worn out, and during another brake test the bed fell over and broke. I found out the solar panel was actually not giving any charge at all, and the head unit needed professional replacement instead of the backyard DIY job I had hoped it would be. Brought the car to a car electrician (colloquially known as an 'auto sparky'), who proceeded take two full weeks to install the head unit and fix a headlight I wasn't aware needed fixing, then discovered the internal speakers were blown, replaced them, but in the process broke the plastic door covers. It's an exhausting and sometimes quite frustrating process, but I do feel like I'm getting to know Elrond inside and out through it. By now I've installed a new solar panel on the roof and have almost finished fixing the bed. After that there's only some minor repairs left that can be pushed back to a later date (and a cheaper town). I'm very excited to finally get to turn it into my own little home for the next however many months!
If you're wondering how you glue a solar panel to the top of a van, this was our method:
Tumblr media
Today I took Elrond up to Petone, where I stocked up on goodies for the upcoming trip in The Dutch Shop, which offers a delightful hit of nostalgia:
Tumblr media
I drove there all alone, and I feel like I'm rapidly growing more and more confident on the road, which I'm frankly really proud of. I'm still nervous to get behind the wheel (I do believe my driving instructor did a real number on me in that regard), but it's getting a lot better already. Driving on the left feels like second nature now, and it really helps that there aren't nearly as many bikes on the road here as at home. Don't get me wrong, I will never bash a bike-friendly traffic situation, but for somebody who easily gets stressed out and overwhelmed while driving this is quite a relief. I still took wrong turns at least three times in the span of ten minutes, but it's nice to find that that's easily solved by calmly making a turn somewhere and getting back on track. There's nobody next to me now to tell me that was wrong, or dumb, or a waste of time. It's just me and the huge pink teddy bear I bought to be my travel buddy, and he's real chill! (Will get a better photo soon, also jury's still out on a name, my inbox is open for suggestions xxx)
Tumblr media
In other news, I have moved back into my friends' house for the remainder of my stay in Te Whanganui-a-tara. As I described in an earlier post, the house I was in wasn't great. Things reached a bit of a boiling point for me when I was violently woken up by our elderly neighbour banging her fists on my window in the morning because my housemate had parked his car in front of her driveway and she couldn't leave for work. Combine that with the unsettling amount of strangers he would let into the house, the absolute inability of everybody else to do any cleaning whatsoever and the unrelenting noises in the middle of the night, and you'll understand why I decided to stop waiting for the van to be ready and just put the room up for grabs on Facebook. It took a couple of weeks but I found a new tenant for the room. Assuming everything would be settled, I packed up my stuff and left on the agreed upon date. However, the new tenant suddenly pulled out at the very last minute, leaving the house with a gap in the rent. The previously mentioned housemate proceeded to bombard me with aggressive messages and e-mails, insisting I continue paying rent for a room I was no longer inhabiting, or there would be legal consequences. This was both hilarious, because the property manager of the house had been so neglectful as to never send me a contract during the past 2 months so there isn't a single legal document with my signature on it, and very uncomfortable, because I'm not used to confrontation. My friend was kind enough to take my phone from me and message him to, and I quote, "fuck off". I don't think I've ever said that to anyone and meant it, so it was quite the experience to get away with it. Luckily the other housemates were very understanding and agreed I didn't have to pay anything, and wished me fun on my trip. I'm glad to be out of there, and still a bit shaken. This is the second time in four months I've had to stand up for myself and be met with such aggression, and it's unpleasant. But I'm sure it'll leave me more equipped for the next time.
As a fun finish to this post, here's a video of one of Te Whanganui-a-tara's many spectacular "water features", aka broken pipes due to constantly shifting tectonic plates that the municipality simply cannot keep up with:
And!! My friends alerted me the other day to a pair of humpback whales that had swum into the harbour, so we went to look at them. My camera would never have been able to capture them, but luckily theirs did:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pretty mind-blowing that this just happens on a regular day in these parts. I felt super lucky to be there and catch a glimpse of them, even if it was from a distance!

Professional Flat Roofing Services
Welcome to our blog post on professional flat roofing services! If you're a homeowner or business owner, then you know how important it is to have a sturdy and reliable roof over your head. And when it comes to flat roofs, the stakes are even higher. That's why we've put together this comprehensive guide to help you find the best flat roofing services for your needs. Whether you need repairs, maintenance, or a total replacement, we've got all the information you need right here in one place. So sit back, relax, and let us help you protect your property with confidence!
What is a professional flat roofing service?
Professional flat roofing service is a company that specializes in the installation and repair of flat roofs. These services usually have a team of experienced roofers who are familiar with the different types of flat roofs and can provide you with the best possible solution for your roof. When it comes to choosing a professional flat roofing service, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, you need to make sure that the company you choose has a good reputation and is reliable. Second, you need to make sure that the company offers a warranty on their work. And finally, you need to make sure that the company is insured and bonded. There are many benefits to using a professional flat roofing service. For one, they can save you time and money by doing the job right the first time. They can also help you avoid potential problems with your roof by performing regular maintenance and repairs. And if something does go wrong, they can usually fix it without having to replace your entire roof.
What are the benefits of using a professional flat roofing service?
There are many benefits to using a professional flat roofing service, including: 1. extended life of your roof - with proper installation and maintenance, a professionally installed flat roof can last 20-30 years or more. 2. increased energy efficiency - a well-insulated and sealed flat roof can help keep your home or office cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, leading to lower energy bills. 3. better protection against the elements - a professionally installed flat roof will provide better protection against wind, rain, snow, and ice than a DIY job. 4. peace of mind - knowing that your roof is in good hands can give you peace of mind and allow you to focus on other aspects of your home or business.
How to find a reputable professional flat roofing service
When your flat roof starts leaking, it's time to find a reputable professional flat roofing service. Here are some tips on how to find a qualified roofer: 1. Get recommendations from friends, family, and neighbors who have used a professional roofing service in the past. 2. Contact your local Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce to get information about local roofing services that have been accredited by these organizations. 3. Ask the roofing service for references from past customers, and call those references to ask about their experience with the company. 4. Make sure the roofing service has adequate liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance to protect you in case of an accident during the job. 5. Get a written estimate from the roofing service before work begins, and make sure the estimate includes all materials, labor, and cleanup costs.
How to get the most out of your professional flat roofing service
1. When you are searching for a professional flat roofing service, make sure to ask around and get quotes from multiple companies. This will help ensure that you are getting the best possible price for the services you need. 2. Once you have found a company that you feel comfortable with, be sure to communicate your expectations clearly. This will help the roofing professionals understand exactly what you need and want from their services. 3. Be sure to ask questions! If you are unsure about anything, don't hesitate to ask the roofing company for clarification. This will help ensure that you are getting exactly what you expect from the service. 4. Finally, once the work is completed, be sure to inspect it thoroughly. This way, you can be confident that the job was done correctly and that your new roof is in good condition. https://therooftechnician.ca/our-services/flat-roofing/
Conclusion
Professional flat roofing services are essential for keeping your home safe and secure. They provide high-quality workmanship that can be trusted, plus experienced contractors who know exactly what needs to be done to make sure the job is done right. Whether you need a repair or installation of a new roof, these professionals will get the job done quickly and efficiently so your roof remains in excellent condition for years to come. Don't take risks with cheaper alternatives; invest in quality professional flat roofing services today!

Kouros & Body Kouros (Yves Saint Laurent)
What I'm about to say might cause a platoon of fragrance chauvinists to swallow their tongues. For them, YSL Kouros is the genius loci of an inviolably male precinct, a sacred scent with whom no mere woman may traffic. The idea of me rocking their filthy-dirty stonking wunderfume would be purest anathema-- and yet I'm doing it as we speak, and the words that come most readily to mind are "big ol' cuddlebear".
Cue the falling-upon of swords!
All right, look. I won't emasculate Kouros entirely. This 1981 monolith deserves all the he-manly epithets with which the decades have graced it. It IS raunchy. It IS racy. It's hung like Liam Neeson and has a half-life that rivals vanadium. But everything about it that could be overwhelming (the brisk face-slap of aromatic wormwood, the whiplash sting of civet-soaked leather) is tempered by something remarkably benign (rosy florals, ozonic amber, the scent of Chinese five-spice). Mad, bad, and dangerous to know? Like fun. This is no angry deity, but a gentle, downy-cheeked, smiling youth of the sort immortalized in a thousand Tom of Finland illustrations. He knows how much further a soft word will get him than a growl; that macho pose is just the icing on some very, very sweet cake.
So here's to the boy who cleans up nice and plays well with girls. He'll never need to twist my arm. (Hear that, Hugo Boss?)
**********
Now let's talk about who such boys grow up to be... and what they wear. As the child is the father to the man, Kouros set the stage for Body Kouros. An improvement? Let's see.
**********
My first car was a 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle, light blue with one orange door. I named him Henry and loved him like a brother. Who cares if he came without a sun roof? I covered his inside domed ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars and planets. Forget the sun; I had an entire galaxy overhead.
How on earth, you rightly ask, will this tie in with YSL Body Kouros? Buckle up and sit tight, passenger. We'll get there when we get there.
From learning to drive stickshift to knowing exactly how high to turn up the heat before one's shins begin to roast, the sense of intimacy one develops with a VW Beetle offers a satisfaction unlike any other in the realm of car ownership. Both my father and my grandfather were "Bug" loyalists; when the latter deeded me his frayed copy of John Muir's 1969 classic How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot, I felt as though I had been handed my birthright. From its stained pages, I culled the rudiments of DIY repair-- no despised task, since the boy in me loved to get engine grease all over his hands. I learned how to check my own oil and fluids, strip and reconnect wires, and reset by hand that tiny timing gear that used to cause me to stall coming out of first.
For engine problems I couldn't solve myself, I took Henry to the local VW garage, a dilapidated old structure on a winding back country road. There, the aging hippie mechanics unfailingly called me ma'am even though I was clearly a 22-year-old punk chick in Docs and ripped cargo shorts. Vintage VW mechanics are a unique lot, because they love their subject just as much as their clients do. Where other mechanics might speak condescendingly to a female car owner or even try to bilk her, VW mechanics recognized the engine grease under my fingernails as a sort of fraternity signal. And when they saw my copy of Muir in the back seat, the floodgates opened. They'd stand with me for an hour, speaking honestly and passionately about that quirky little automobile we all adored.
Something about leaving Henry at the garage amidst a yard of other Beetles (red with one blue door, yellow with one purple door, silver with both doors in apple green) made me happy-- as though I was dropping him off for a playdate with his friends. I think it made him happy too, because when I returned to pick him up, he purred. The mechanics would stand outside and wave goodbye as I puttered down the street. In the rearview mirror of hindsight, I still see them clearly: men like my father, like my grandfather; the salt-of-the-earth kind on whom you can "absotively posilutely" rely.
And today -- a bright, cloudless day blessed with cool weather, perfect for a drive -- I'm wearing Body Kouros in their honor.
If you've ever personally been acquainted with an auto mechanic, you know that even when they're off duty and in civilian wear, the faint, discreet odor of engine grease and motor oil hovers over their skin. If you're like me, you find this aroma extremely pleasant-- evoking, as it does, the satisfaction derived from worthwhile labor. To me, Body Kouros says one thing, simply and cleanly: job well done.
It starts off simultaneously tart and soapy, shimmering with a bright overlay of something close to gasoline fumes. (If this doesn't appeal to you, don't worry-- it evaporates quick enough, though not so quickly that it evades the notice of female gearheads.) The clean soapy quality is soon joined by a pleasantly dirty licorice-cedar accord, as if our dream mechanic came home reeking of an honest day's work and is now towelling off after a quick shower. Hints of Lava Pumice Soap and shaving cream still cling to his skin, mingling with his own natural musk and creating the air of a healthy masculine specimen.
As the drydown approaches, a note of mace finally begins to assert itself. Mace and its sibling spice nutmeg share many olfactory traits, but temperature is not one of them. Where nutmeg lends a certain coolness to a fragrance, mace offers a sense of low, steady heat like a lit charcoal pastille-- at first glimmering like an ember in the background, then catching on and increasing by degrees to a fiery red glow. (Perhaps our mechanic is a little sweaty, even after his shower; he's heading out to the shady backyard to relax in the hammock with an ice-cold bottle of beer.)
This mace note is one that I admire immensely. It's everything I love about nutmeg, only more so-- amped up and ramped up, holding firm with no shimmy at fourth gear. It radiates animal contentment and self-confidence, and at the same time, harmonizes with that motor-oil note to keep it nicely in check.
Body Kouros brings new meaning to the word "serviceable". Free of pretensions and frills, it conceals no secret layers. Yet it projects a dependability and steadiness of character that are far more valuable than so-called elegance. Above all, Body Kouros is classless in the best sense of the word-- egalitarian, unconstrained by matters of status or appearance. Wear it as a second skin to feel supremely at home in your own.
Scent Elements: Aldehydes, artemisia, coriander, clary sage, cinnamon, bergamot, carnation, iris, jasmine, geranium, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, honey, leather, tonka, labdanum, ambergris, musk, civet, vanilla (Kouros); incense, eucalyptus, cedarwood, mace, camphorwood, benzoin (Body Kouros)
