Throwback to last year when I made a journal out of a cereal box, an old scarf, scrapbook paper and tea stained paper!
I really want to start a project similar to this again.

I tried my hand at making some notebooks! They're not perfect but for my second binding attempt they are really great. I will be looking to invest in a heavy duty guillotine cutter though on behalf of my wrist 😅😅😅
I used a thicker high quality cardstock to print some collages. The paper is a smooth, high quality, cream colored 86 gsm. They all have approximately 60 pages- give or take a few.

Lunar New Year Coptic Stitch Journal
🧧
For the new year, my mom gave me some red envelopes. Normally I like to keep the envelopes so I can reuse them for next year, but unfortunately she wrote on the back of them in ink with my name. So I got this new idea for how I could use it instead.
The color paper I used for the journal pages came from these really cheap craft paper pads I bought from Daiso ($1.75 per pad).
It’s my first time doing a cutout in a cover. It’s also my first time doing something fancy for the spine stitches. Really pleased with how it all came out. The cover is black marbled paper, with a cutout to display the lucky red envelope. I think this took me 5 hours from start to finish.
You can go here to find images of my process.

Starting making my first junk journal! I'm using a cereal carboars box and for the signatures I have a few tiny notebooks that will do just fine. I'm doing it after seeing a few youtube tutorials but... I we will see how it ends uo turning out. I'm gonna use a few pieces of fabric to make the cover and I'll try to embroider a little tittle on it. (Maybe will do some king of charm?).

My first attempt at mixing cross stitch and bookbinding, making this custom sketchbook. The pattern used was the 1-bit moth stitched on 16ct coffee dyed aida and it's available for purchase in our shop. ✨

A Lore Journal!
Tumblr media
Sneak peak at a lore journal I’m working on for a story! This journal is set way in the past from the main character of my story, and will set up why the characters have certain sayings/why they act the way they do because of what happens to this character the journal is about.
Basically, this Lightfog (a species I made up) called Crimson Spring met a Nightfore (another species) called Eclipse, and it all goes a bit downhill from there. Although they spark a new, unforgettable and unique friendship, their families and others in their own species do not like each other. Nightfores have been known to be these big, scary beasts to Lightfogs.
With a new discovery Crimson and Eclipse made, they have to fix their mistakes in order for tensions to clear. But what they don’t realize is that what happens will spiral into something more, something none of them can stop.
Tumblr media
On their journey, Crimson comes across an old letter (I aged the paper with coffee grounds^^) for someone called Marie from her lover, Jack.
Since this is set in the past and there are no direct names for the seasons yet, I’ve just used some terms Warrior Cat fans may recognize. (For variation I didn’t mean to make them like WC seasons. Flower-Bloom, Blossom-Fall, Leaf-Fall, Leaf-Bare)
This is all I have for now!! I might post another update on how the journal is going a bit later.

My DIY case-bound junk journal is finally finished! I made it out of scrap paper, a cereal box, and old jeans. This took so long to make but it was well worth the effort.
I can’t wait to fill it with, well, junk!

Here are the diaries I made for work and home in 2022-2023 (Pink with green spine is home diary, red with blue is for work).
Not much different from the original template, though some minor tweaks were made. I believe I added in the Mail Pending page for this iteration of the diary, and lost the WoW tracker page as I had long since stopped playing at that point (although, had newly started FFXIV so, you know 👀).
Trimmed the page edges for both of these with a chisel, so they look nice and smooth. Covers are just scrapbooking paper with a bookcloth spine. The blue for the work diary is bookcloth I got from the NSW bookbinding shop, and the green is DIY bookcloth made from green linen and iron on fusible webbing - it works pretty well as a DIY bookcloth, but isn't quite as sturdy as cloth made with book glue. You can't do any tooling on it either as the surface isn't primed for it.

DIY Sketch/Media Journal
Materials: 140 lb water color paper, waxed thread, particle board, wood glue, tacky glue cardstock
Notes: Made journal as a gift, binded each water color paper as its own individual signature because of the thickness and I didn't want to risk tearing the paper. Made the covers out of particle board scraps, didnt make the holes to bind together because of how small they would have to be and the board was very hard. Instead of binding, I glued the block to the boards. Not pictured is the finished inside of the covers that were covered in cardstock.
