When I think of where the team was when Dan joined and where they are now- fighting for points, battling Mercs and Ferraris, getting both cars into Q3, like we're literally all disappointed at a P9 finish, when back in Hungary we would have been jumping for joy at such a result. This is only his 5th race back and after his injury and only joining the team this year hes doing phenomenal. Hearing the words from Peter and Horner the improvement is coming from him.

Les personnes qui ne cultivent pas, mais qui vivent dans des communautés agricoles américaines où des pesticides sont utilisés dans les fermes, sont confrontées à un risque accru de cancer aussi important que si elles étaient fumeurs, selon une étude publiée le 25 juillet dans Frontiers in Cancer Control and Society.

Le glyphosate, l'ingrédient actif du désherbant Roundup et l'herbicide le plus utilisé dans le monde, a été classé comme cancérogène humain probable par le Agence internationale de recherche sur le cancer.

Plus de 100 000 plaignants ont poursuivi Monsanto et le propriétaire Bayer AG en alléguant que l'exposition à Roundup et aux produits connexes les a amenés à développer la LNH.

Aux États-Unis l'Agence de protection de l'environnement (EPA) soutient qu'il n'y a aucune preuve que le glyphosate cause le cancer chez l'homme. 🫢

Dicamba, un ingrédient actif de plusieurs autres désherbants populaires, a été associé à de nombreux cancers dans une étude des NIH en 2020.

En février, un juge fédéral de l'Arizona a interdit trois désherbants à base de dicamba fabriqués par Bayer, BASF et Syngenta et a statué que l'EPA avait enfreint la loi en autorisant leur utilisation.

La nouvelle étude publiée aujourd'hui ne fait pas partie de l'étude de longue date sur la santé agricole, ou AHS, qui est une collaboration de l'Institut national du cancer, de l'Institut national des sciences de la santé environnementale et de l'EPA.

All I’m gonna say is with what the vcarb team leaders are saying- Peter Bayer and Laurent Mekies have said that Daniels car is still having issues and the experimental things Daniel is doing is only benefitting Yuki who is 100% comfortable in the car and Daniel isn’t 100% comfortable in it. It’d be embarrassing if Yuki wasn’t beating a driver going through that.

I mean, I hate to be that person... But Daniel himself said he's 100% comfortable with the car just yesterday. He even managed to throw in a dig at McLaren lmao

He even confirmed that the team corrected things on the car he brought up in Jeddah and replaced parts right away. And Dan also admitted that he's not sure why he's not able to extract the max from the car like Yuki

So the whole "He's not comfortable with the car" doesn't seem to really work as an excuse? Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

A noter que sa brève, mais néanmoins honteuse, compromission avec le régime nazi est en général largement passée sous silence par celles et ceux qui célèbrent aujourd’hui son style minimaliste et ses théories avant-gardistes sur la typographie ou la composition visuelle. Le fait est totalement passé sous silence, par exemple, dans sa page de Wikipedia en français (en date du 05/03/2024), alors même qu’il est bien mentionné et référencé dans la version anglaise.

Remedios Varo Uranga

Remedios Varo Uranga, née le 16 décembre 1908 à Anglès, dans la province de Gérone en Espagne, et morte le 8 octobre 1963 à Mexico, est une artiste peintre surréaliste espagnole.

Son père est un ingénieur hydraulique. En 1924, Remedios Varo entre à l'Académia de San Fernando où elle étudie les beaux-arts. En 1930, elle participe à une exposition collective à Madrid. Elle épouse le peintre basque Gerardo Lizarraga et ils partent s'installer à Paris.

Elle revient à Barcelone, en 1932, se sépare de Lizagarra et se lie avec le peintre Esteban Francés.

En 1936, Remedios Varo participe à l'exposition Logicofobista organisée à la Galeria Catalonia de Barcelone et rencontre le poète surréaliste français Benjamin Péret, venu combattre avec les anarchistes de la colonne Durutti sur le front de Teruel2. Ils se marient et s'installent à Paris en 1937. Avec Péret, elle fréquente le groupe surréaliste parisien et se lie d'amitié avec l'artiste peintre anglaise Leonora Carrington. Elle présente plusieurs tableaux à l' Exposition internationale du surréalisme de janvier 1938 et à l' Exposition du rêve dans l'art organisée par Frédéric Delanglade. Sa toile El Deseo (Le Désir) est reproduit dans le numéro 10 de la revue Minotaure.

À la fin de l'année 1940, Remedios Varo et Benjamin Péret retrouvent André Breton et quelques surréalistes réfugiés à Marseille, dans la villa Air-Bel, louée par le journaliste américain Varian Fry, dans l'attente d'un visa de sortie du territoire français. Ils parviennent à quitter la France en 1941 pour le Mexique. Elle y retrouve Lizarraga, Francés, Leonora Carrington, Gordon Onslow-Ford, Wolfgang Paalen et sa femme Alice Rahon. Elle crée des publicités pour la compagnie pharmaceutique Bayer, fait de la décoration, peint des meubles et restaure des céramiques pré-colombiennes.

En 1947, elle se sépare de Benjamin Péret qui rentre en France. Elle expose à la galerie Maeght pour l' Exposition internationale du surréalisme.

Après un voyage au Venezuela où elle participe, avec son frère le docteur Rodrigo Varo, à une expédition entomologique, Remedios Varo rencontre Walter Gruen qui l'encourage à peindre à nouveau. Ils se marient en 1953.

En 1955, la Galería Diana de Mexico organise sa première exposition personnelle. En 1958, la Galería Excelsior organise le premier Salon de la Plastica Femina où sont exposées des œuvres, outre celles de Remedios Varo, de Leonora Carrington et d’Alice Rahon. En 1962, la Galería Juan Martín présente sa deuxième exposition personnelle et elle participe à l'Exposition internationale de Tokyo.

Remedios Varo meurt d'une crise cardiaque. Son dernier tableau Nature morte ressuscitant est la seule œuvre sans aucun personnage.

En 1964, une rétrospective est organisée au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mexico qui attire plus de 50 000 visiteurs. Dans la revue surréaliste La Brèche, André Breton rend hommage à son œuvre « tout entière » surréaliste : « Remedios, la féminité même, ici en hiéroglyphe le jeu et le feu dans l'œil de l'oiseau. »

Guide des 4000 médocs utiles, inutiles ou dangereux.

« Une nouvelle version [du] best-seller [de Philippe Even et Bernard Debré, Guide des 4000 médicaments utiles, inutiles ou dangereux, éd. Le Cherche Midi] souligne qu'un tiers des médicaments proposés sont "inefficaces", un quart mal tolérés et 5 % potentiellement dangereux. [...] deuxième édition [...] [qui] inclut les 200 nouveaux médicaments apparus depuis 2012, date de la 1e édition de ce livre qui avait fait l'objet de polémiques. [...] selon les auteurs, 15 milliards de médicaments dépensés inutilement au détriment de "véritables priorités" : hôpitaux, infirmières, handicaps physiques et mentaux, vieillesse... [...] il y a "15.000 morts d'accidents thérapeutiques dus aux médicaments qui n'auraient pas dû avoir lieu". "C'est quand même cinq fois plus que les accidents de la route", dit [Philippe Even]

Le taux d'inefficacité noté dans l'ouvrage est très élevé pour l'ORL (78%) et en gastro-entérologie (62%) et reste loin d'être négligeable en pneumologie (59%, hors cancers et infections). Ainsi, 50 antitussifs sont "à retirer du marché" et "22 des 23" des mucolytiques aux noms imagés pour prétendument "fluidifier les sécrétions bronchiques" sont "inutiles". Même constat la "désensibilisation" allergique, qualifiée de "nulle". [...]

[Les auteurs] reviennent également sur les drames et controverses de ces dernières années (Mediator, Vioxx, Dépakine, la statine de Bayer, Diane 35, l'abus du recours aux pilules de 3e et 4e générations, essai clinique mortel à Rennes...). »

"C'est vrai que la mise en place d'un congé paternité plus long, ou le fait que de rares hommes prennent un congé parental, permet l'exercice d'un partage des tâches et pratiques au quotidien.

Mais en fait, ce partage reste quand même fortement marqué par les normes en vigueur.

On peut voir que les hommes réalisent très rarement des tâches seuls.

La plupart du temps, les tâches sont toujours orchestrées ou supervisées par leur conjointe.

Les tâches qu'ils s'autorisent à exercer seuls sont plutôt les tâches domestiques: faire les courses, la vaisselle, le ménage, les repas.

Les tâches partagées avec la conjointe sont liées aux activités parentales.

Et les tâches qui restent toujours dévolues aux mères et restent l'exclusivité maternelle sont les tâches dites "de maternage", relatives au rapport au corps, à la santé, comme donner le bain, etc.

On voit bien qu'il y a des situations propices au partage des tâches, mais c'est un partage qui est plutôt défini par une délégation des tâches données par les conjointes, que par un réel partage ou mise en oeuvre par les pères."

Hélène Périvier:

"(…) C'est sûr que si on veut que le congé parental soit plus transformatif en matière de partage et d'équilibre au sein de la famille, le mieux c'est que les pères se retrouvent seuls à gérer.

Mais un travail sur la Norvège avait montré que le recours au congé parental par les pères n'avait pas d'influence sur le long terme sur le partage des tâches.

Donc voilà, ce n'est pas forcément suffisant, et ça vous donne un peu l'idée de l'état des normes de genre, y compris dans un pays comme la Norvège. (…)

Le fait que les hommes prennent plus un congé parental a un effet négatif sur leurs salaires, de la même façon que pour les femmes.

Par contre, ça n'a pas d'effet positif sur le salaire des femmes.

Ce qu'on aurait souhaité voir c'est une forme de balancier: si les hommes s'investissent plus dans la famille, alors logiquement leurs salaires peuvent baisser, mais en retour on s'attend à voir les salaires des mères augmenter.

Et en Norvège, on n'a pas cet effet mécanique, symétrique, qui ferait que du coup on verrait les salaires des femmes augmenter et leurs carrières dynamisées.

Le congé parental n'est qu'une petite brique dans les politiques publiques, ce n'est qu'une petite partie du problème."

Eurovision 1994: The actual result

This is your spoiler warning for 1994. If you don't know now, well I'm going to tell you who won Eurovision.

And of course, even if Ireland had tried to tank their chances, it just wasn't going to work. They won for the third time in a row, the only country to do so before or since. Besides Ireland, other English language entries finished fifth and tenth - not quite as well as was expected. On the other hand, the new countries fared outstandingly. Poland, Hungary and Russia all finished in the top 10, with Poland second. Germany had a good year (and a party) and finished third.

The countries unluckily finishing at the bottom were Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia and Switzerland all of whom would have to take a year off in 1995. Lithuania scored the first nil points since Austria managed in in 1991.

One Perfect Couple | Ruth Ware | Published 2024

Lyla is in a bit of a rut. Her post-doctoral research has fizzled out, she's pretty sure they won't extend her contract, and things with her boyfriend, Nico, an aspiring actor, aren't going great. When the opporunity arises for Nico to join the cast of a new reality TV show, The Perfect Couple, she decides to try out with him. A whirlwind audition process later, Lyla finds herself whisked off to a tropical paradise with Nico, boating through the Indian Ocean towards Ever After Island, where the two of them will complete against four other couples - Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi and Conor and Zana - in order to win a cash prize.

But no longer after they arrive on the deserted island, things start to go wrong. After the first challenge leaves everyone rattled and angry, an overnight storm takes matters from bad to worse. Cut off from the mainland by miles of ocean, deprived of their phones, and unable to contact the crew that brought them there, the group must band together for survival. As tensions run high and fresh water runs low, Lyla finds that this game show is all too real - and the stakes are life or death.

A fast paced, spellbinding thriller rife with intrigue and characters that feel so true to life, this novel proves yet again that Ruth Ware is the queen of psychological suspense.

Lyla, a 32-year-old scientist, is on the cusp of having her one year contract being forfeited, simply because the research she is working on isn't adding up when her boyfriend, 28-year-old Nico, a hopeful actor, requests that the two of them enter into a new reality TV show called One Perfect Couple. Lyla has her hesitations, due to the fact that she might not be able to get off work to commit to the potential 10-week filming schedule, but with the okay of her boss, she hesitantly agrees.

The show will be taking place on an island on the outskirts of Indonesia. They're joined by four other couples: Bayer and Angel, Dan and Santana, Joel and Romi and Conor and Zana. Instantly, Lyla knows that she is the outcast of the group, followed by Dan, who himself is in academia. But everyone else is in the media in some way or the other, the most famous being Conor, who has a popular YouTube talk show where he has over 10 million followers.

When they arrive on the island, Lyla and Nico are thrilled to see the paradise that awaits them. Despite being nervous around the cameras and unsure of how to handle herself, being introverted to Nico's extroverted, she begins to truly try to enjoy herself. For the first challenge of the show, they are to fill out questionnaires and compare their answers with their significant other. Lyla does well on hers, but Nico doesn't and is eliminated from the competition on the first night. Rightfully upset, Nico is escorted back to the yacht that escorted them across the ocean, while Lyla is able to remain on the island, and is told to spend the night with Joel, who is essentially her compatible match on the island, despite Romi's hesitations.

Lyla isn't thrilled with this, as she had originally decided that she would fail one of the first few challenges and get back to the mainland and her life, and this isn't what she and Nico planned. But, she heads off to the honeymoon suite with Joel, where they share a bed as far away from each other as they can. But their attempts at sleep are thwarted by a large storm that causes havoc and devastation on the island.

In the morning, Joel is devastated to learn that Romi is one of the first casualties, and the yacht is no longer in their view, meaning the rest of the survivors are going to remain on the island for who knows how long. With little water and food, they surmise they'll be able to survive on their rations for a little over a month, so long as they keep to what is agreed upon. Conor, the natural alpha male of the group, decides to take charge and at first, everyone agrees.

But it becomes quickly apparent that Conor is holding their rations hostage on purpose, even claiming that he is "allowing" them to have water when they pull their own weight on the island in order to ensure their survival. After a disturbing encounter between Conor and Bayer that leaves Bayer dead, the rest of the group understands that Conor is an incredibly dangerous person and they have to tread lightly.

Slowly but surely, their numbers begin to dwindle, and their only outlet to the outside world is a radio where the battery is now dead. Conor is becoming increasingly more volatile with everyone, including Zana, who the girls quickly realize he is abusing when they're alone in the water villa. In addition, they notice that while the rest of them are struggling with dehydration, Conor is strangely hydrated and stronger than ever.

With Dan, Joel, Bayer and the rest of the males gone from their group, either from Conor's own hands or due to the elements, the girls know they need a hail mary in order to continue to survive. Knowing that Conor is beating Zana in the privacy of their villa when nobody is around, Santana knows that they will have to kill him in order to ensure their survival. As a Type 1 diabetic, she relies on her insulin in order to survive, and Conor has somehow gotten his hands on it. When Dan's body was recovered from the shore after washing up after he had drowned or been injured in the water in some way, Lyla found a bottle of the insulin in his hand, and she knows that he had gone to confront Conor the night he disappeared from their camp.

Santana knows that a healthy person injected with insulin could go through a quick death, and she and Lyla head off to the water villa after drugging him in order to inject him with the insulin. After injecting him with the insulin, he attacks them both, causing Santana to hit her head roughtly on the floor and become unconscious, and to begin choking Lyla.

But with Zana's help, Lyla is able to get free, and she helps Zana drown Conor in the water off the villa and the two of them make it back to shore safely. Santana is also alive, despite everyone fearing the worst. Angel knows that they need to get the battery back up, and she has a plan. She is able to successfully get the battery working and exclaims that she was able to get in contact with someone and they are sending help, and it should be expected to arrive in 5 hours.

Instead of outing Conor for the sadistic, murderous jerk that he was, they decide to pave him as a hero who ultimately saved their lives without thinking of his own in order to get away with what happened on the island save their own lives.

But once they have been rescued and returned to the mainland, they realize that Conor and Baz, the producer of the show, knew each other as Conor had dated Baz's niece and he was ultimately responsible for her untimely death after she committed suicide two days after they had broken up. It was calculated, everyone in one way or another had a connection to Conor except for Lyla and Nico, who were last minute additions to the show after the original couple decided to back out. Knowing what they know now, Zana is upset that they had painted Conor in such a positive light, but the other girls tell her that they did it for their own survival.

In the end, Lyla returns to her life and when she gets a working phone back, realizes that Nico had been given her phone back and apologized to her after he had returned to the yacht, and that he was essentially going to let her go so she can live her life.
