We need to make Presidents engage with pop culture as directly as Bush the first did. From Dan Quayle commenting on sitcom characters in a way that left it ambiguous if he thought they were real or not to Bush himself saying he wanted to "make Americans more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons*" it was really embarrassing and ill-conceived, let's do it again

*HISTORICAL NOTE FOR ANYONE WHO'S YOUNG AND DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT TV SHOWS FROM DECADES BEFORE THEY WERE BORN FOR NO REASON: this was funny bc The Waltons was about a family living during the Great Depression. He was textually saying "no more dysfunctional families, more maudlin family values ones" but accidentally saying "I wish America would be plunged into the Depression once more"
