H. Searle's aggressive return game predominantly contributed to his almost full control of the flow. The only break point from D. Cox came from H. Searle's forehand error earlier in the first set, but the British qualifier could not come up with anything to bother H. Searle's baseline game. As a result, the latter created 4 opportunities to break mostly through his passes and winners, converting 50% of them within both sets.

Besides, the service games went interesting for both players. H. Searle might have scored 2 more aces than D. Cox (8 to 6), but the latter had a slight edge on his first serves with a 80% winning percentage than H. Searle's 78%. On the other hand, despite not double-faulting at all, the second serve seemed to be the most problematic spot for D. Cox as he could only win 37% of his points from there, 25% lesser than H. Searle, who double-faulted thrice along the way.

An interesting test could await H. Searle in the quarterfinals as he will face the winner of another all-British qualifier clash in Charlie Robertson or Paul Jubb, the latter who tried to make a comeback after almost a year of hiatus due to injury. This could be a fun test either way, with their return depth and aggression being the main focus, as well as their willingness to move forward later on. Buckle up for a possible rise here!

After the second set started with two consecutive holds, H. Searle kept digging deep with his forehand, where D. Cox mostly missed his third shots, either forehand or volley. A flat forehand get from the former caught the latter's volley side off-guard that even if D. Cox came up with an intuitive volley to minimize the gap, it was insufficient as his third shot forehand let him down once again on break point, resulting in H. Searle's break of serve to 2-1. H. Searle followed it up with a consolidation to 3-1.

Interestingly, H. Searle's aggression did not allow much room for D. Cox to move forward, even though there was a working volley that preceded his service game hold to 4-3. Two straight games later, H. Searle earned his opportunity to serve for the match, where a flawless service game secured the second set 6-4, thus he advanced to his maiden Challenger quarterfinal.

wada sez: The vignettes in this one all set up scenes from the beginning of The Transformers: The Movie, with Kup directing the other Autobots in setting up a roadblock, Blaster chilling in the communications tower, and Wheeljack and Windcharger hanging out before they’re both brutally killed side-by-side by the Decepticons. Hot Rod’s line opens his first scene with Daniel. Josh Burcham had already coloured an official adaptation of the film for IDW and a tie-in story by Simon Furman for Australian home-media company Madman Entertainment, so this fits nicely in that vein; he’d go on to colour the pack-in comic for the Reveal the Shield Rodimus vs. Cyclonus two-pack.
