The AO3 Demographics Survey 2024 was an unofficial demographics survey of 16,131 AO3 users conducted in January 2024. We have just finished posting our initial results, so here is just a taste of the graphs and data you can check out now over on AO3!

The conventional wisdom is to spend roughly 1/3 of your income on housing.

So this is a visualization of that ratio for me. The data starts after I moved into my first apartment after the divorce. The housing cost is what I paid to my landlord or my mortgage-- other bills like electricity aren't included.

The income is my take home pay from work, not including alimony payments or income from working conventions.

There were a couple one-off events that brought that ratio down to a comfortable number. At its worst, I was spending 49.93% of my income on my mortgage, and I wound up taking a second job until I was able to score a promotion.

For broader context, I currently live in a 2-bedroom house in a mid-sized Midwestern city, and (post promotion) I make roughly three times the state minimum wage.

the tumblr press page says 48% of users are Gen Z, so aged 12-27. and this website says 40% Gen Z and 30% Millennial although idk how trustworthy that is. either way those are unfortunately useless categories for purposes of figuring out who is rent-paying age versus who just started highschool

i used to play mcl on the hungarian server. it was obviously a lot smaller, and we had fashion competitions every few months. the players would send their fits to the forums and the mods would look through all of them and pick winners. i feel like the submissions were quite nice most of the time. not to brag but once i won and got to pick a cat hoodie as my award!! :D good days

now, a lot of people complain about the fashion game in mcl newgen. i was wondering how they worked on the other servers in the original mcl game? also through the forum? because i imagine it would be way too much work for the mods to look through all of them :D

edit: thought about it and its so nice that mcl had so many localizations! :> non-english speakers could also have some fun lol
