The (International) Noise Conspiracy and The Hives at Knitting Factory
Tumblr media
Full gallery available on my website here.
On Saturday, November 17, 2001, I photographed two bands from Sweden: The (International) Noise Conspiracy and The Hives in the main room of Knitting Factory. I believe this was The Hives’ first ever tour of the US and I would document two of their shows in New York City again 22 years later in support of their first new record in over a decade. T(I)NC performed at Bowery Ballroom with Rocket From the Crypt earlier in 2001 and a gallery from that show is available on my website here.
I previously discussed photographing The Hives with Jeanette D. Moses on DP Review and that interview is available on that website here.

there are people on twitter right now speculating that tobias forge, TOBIAS FORGE, was listening to mcr back in 2006.
no, he did not.
i have to extremely stress that this has nothing to do with mcr or their music in the years since (they’re not my personal cup of tea but i do really appreciate gerard way’s whole vibe this last tour, good for them). but let’s be clear - when they and the other emo bands first entered the scene, not a single person over the age of 17 (at least no one who were already into “alternative” music or whatever) took them seriously. they were something that younger teenagers listened to, and they were cringe, and that was that. the generational cut off was razor sharp. unfair? maybe. but do ask yourselves - does the man who wants virtually all music produced after 1995 shot on sight seem like he would give a rats ass about being fair? he might feel different today, but 25-year old tobias? no absolutely not there is absolutely nothing that can change my mind on this, he did not listen to a single song of theirs. also, this is also said with love and respect, but there WERE other alternative subcultures than emo in the 2000’s. and prior to that. i promise.
(also, while we are at it, tobias did not have emo hair, he had a pop-pojke-frilla (pop boy hairdo), ok? if anything, it looks like he’s on the hunt for deleted the smiths singles. this haircut was about emulating the vibe of bands like “the (international) noise conspiracy” (singer dennis lyxzén used to be the frontman in refused, a straight edge hardcore band that’s probably one of the coolest bands that have ever existed), and was heavily favoured at the time by people in their 20’s who wanted to be a tad bit more respectable for their day jobs, but still look alternative when off the clock. like a prototype for what would become like, joseph gordon-levitt in 500 days of summer, sort of. please note the similarity between t(i)nc and tobias, also how it differs from emo hair in that it’s not flat ironed within an inch of its life)

ARCH ENEMY, TRIVIUM, DARK TRANQUILLITY Singers Perform At 'Metal: Hellsinger' Concert At GAMESCOM
Metal: Hellsinger, the heavy metal rhythm shooter from publisher Funcom and developer The Outsiders, took to the stage earlier today (Thursday, August 25) at Gamescom, Europe's leading trade fair for digital games culture, in Cologne, Germany in the largest live concert ever seen at the event. Several of the game's celebrated vocalists performed their songs from the game, which are written by Swedish composer duo Two Feathers.
This epic joining of music and game was streamed live for all to watch and can now be seen below.
After shooting past one million demo downloads and a rapid climb up the Steam wishlist, Funcom and The Outsiders turned it up to 11 by gathering an astounding number of the game's metal icons to perform, including Matt Heafy (TRIVIUM), Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY), Mikael Stanne (DARK TRANQUILLITY), Dennis Lyxzén (REFUSED, INVSN) and James Dorton (BLACK CROWN INITIATE).
The massive event was free and open to thousands of people, thanks to an entire hall being reserved for it. Even more were able to witness the mayhem on the livestream on the official Metal: Hellsinger homepage.
Those attending Gamescom had free access to the show, and the first 200 to enter got a bagful of exclusive Metal: Hellsinger merchandise.
In Metal: Hellsinger, the better you slay to the beat, the more intense the experience gets, with the music unfolding in layers, until it culminates in full vocals blasting as you tear through demons. Dive headfirst into the fires and frost of the Hells in search of vengeance.
Metal: Hellsinger will be released on September 15 on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S. Pre-orders for consoles are available now, and the demo, which released to glowing responses, is available now on all platforms.
