Thank you! The funny thing about Umbra's design was that while I was developing it about two years ago and had some colors in mind, I described in text what I already came up with to an image generator for fun (shitty unconvincing old kind, vs now where it looks like shit but in a somewhat more convincing way) and it produced something so silly that I made her design better than what I would've settled with out of spite.

More details of my process and anti-AI ranting below the cut, so the examples given won't show up on search results. Google Images is getting polluted too much with slop to begin with.

Let's begin.

In 2022 I was drafting up Umbra's design with mostly concrete details. At this time image generators were newer and much less convincing, and I was a bit less aware of just how unethical they were, so I fed one a text description of what I had drafted for her design out of curiosity. Something along the lines of, "doll of an anthropomorphic owl librarian in glasses, blazer/suit jacket, skirt, corset, high heels, sitting on a bookshelf" and probably a few more terms. Really specific, lengthy prompt.

I try to be open-minded and give new things a shot, but the results were Not Great. Ideally, I'd want to not share the AI pictures at all on-principle, but I feel like it's useful, transparent, and necessary to show them. Both as a means of not hiding anything, but also just to appreciate where the design is at in spite of it.

Outside of this particular collage of Weird Owls, no other pictures on this blog are AI-generated. AI Image Generation is harmful, and I am against its usage.

But hey, two of the generated pictures look close, right? The top left is the closest, and bottom right is second.

That's because they started out worse, and I had to actually erase chunks of them and have the generator fill in the blanks to get anything remotely close to what I wanted. Misshapen limbs, unrecognizable anatomy, fever-dream clothing details, etc. They didn't even have a corset or proper legs until I slapped the generator in the face enough times to make it produce them. I was just using it to photobash, which was such an annoying process, I just went "this is dumb" and stopped. They're literally posed like that because I kept erasing and regnerating their limbs until they looked vaguely in-character. It literally only looks passable thanks to STRANGLING it with human input.

Before I used the image generator, I already drafted her to be night-themed with yellow eyes and something like purple, dark blue, or sky-blue as her main color; the generator making one owl yellow-eyed and purple was a happy coincidence, and the only thing the generative AI "came up with" that I didn't already have in mind or included in the prompt was the light blue shirt, which I did adapt into her cyan shirt and stockings/socks as well. That was a good call. You get One Point, Mr. AI.

...Which still meant that at its absolute best, it was a largely redundant step in the creative process if its contribution was worse than what a randomized palette generator or character creator could come up with.

That's already putting the ethics of it aside, like carbon emissions, data pollution, using artists' and photographers' work without credit or permission, the incentive to plagiarize, flooding sites like deviantart with slop, Willy Wonka Shit, etc etc etc. When people say "you can use AI as a tool though", this ordeal was enough to convince me that it's more trouble than its worth, even in its most ethical usage. I feel gross for having even tried. I wish I knew what sources went into the creation of those Weird Owls. It'd be better for research if the right people could be credited.

Nothing else on this blog is AI-generated or ever will be. The art below is purely my own (2022 vs a few weeks ago)):

Actually drawing Umbra and solidifying her design was far more rewarding than having an image generator vaguely approximate my own ideas. I wanted her to look really special, so I used a black cape and pants, gold highlights and buttons, and blue undertones to make something more distinct. Also, neck floof. Very important. I wanted the head in particular to look distinct and original, going with bold black streaks to really help her look distinguished.

I also have certain inevitable Hydroisms for Fancy characters like her; most apparent in these designs for Chasey and Kaita from even longer ago, which were more of an influence than anything else. (Old art of mine from like 2021, Kaita ref looks wonky but Chasey still holds up nicely):

Most of Umbra's other design elements were already commonly used with established ocs like Kaita, like her shape language, corset, skirt, heels, etc. It was my previous work with Chasey that inspired the use of gold buttons and highlights.

Umbra is also now a bluer shade of purple partly to distance the current design from that ordeal. All things considered, I'll probably make her more indigo next time. I already wanted her to have a wide color range from the get-go (Featured below is, again, purely my art from 2022:)

I may use a different colored shirt and stockings in the future. I like to think she has many different shirts and clothes based on the different stages of the night sky, from dusk to dawn, and the painting I made in the top right there was an exploration of her range in different lighting.

All in all, it's frustrating. I'm proud of her design, but explaining all of this is annoying, because it's technically all relevant to showing how her colors were picked and how the design was made. I still technically have AI to """Thank""", in the way you thank a bad experience for encouraging you to make things better out of spite.

I see your work EVERYWHERE! I follow you on a lot of platforms and I've always loved your modeling style.

However, being as good as you are there's alot of people (especially recently) who crop out watermarks and post your pieces elsewhere. Mostly on TikTok and Pinterest.

I'm an Artist myself and not long ago I deleted my Deviantart because I found my art on google and being reposted by others.

Is there any way at all to tactical things like this besides just reporting and blocking? It's scary being and Artist and I'm not that big at all, but I still don't want it to happen.

Unfortunately, in order to avoid reposting to some extent, I had to create accounts literally everywhere to be the first person to publish them. And it's true, for about two months I have noticed a very large increase of accounts stealing my and others art.. It's hard and exausting to fight them all. Sometimes I write private messages to reposters asking them not to do it and they listen to me, but there are also people who deny it and even block me lmao

I don't have a perfect solution for this, the only thing is watermarks, blocks and reports.

What I've noticed is that wms are most likely to be removed when they are large and noticable. When they are blended into the background, they stay (idk, i guess they are too dumb to look for them). When I make renders with several characters, I hide them on each of them. For example, someone stole THIS render and removed my watermark from Ghost, but didn't pay attention to the one hidden on Soap xdd

but what started to scare me is AI. About a month ago, I reported an account on Pinterest that was removing my wms and changing resolutions. 2 days ago I saw 2 tiktoks on my fyp with this new filter where my renders were also edited, and yesterday someone did THIS… so it's getting worse. I am bombarded with new problems from every direction and sometimes I don't know what to do because I'm not an expert. I am just like all of you and I just want to make art as a hobby and for fun.

Unfortunately, Call of Duty is a big fandom and there are some shits who want to take advantage of it.

So what I do is: -hide watermarks -post art in lower resolutions (if it is 2k-4k, it will be easier to remove wms and more likely someone will want to sell them as posters etc) -and I'm also starting to think about using an app that prevents AI from reading my stuff

at the moment I'm only focusing on situations when someone removes my wms or tries to sell them. There are so many reposters that sometimes it just overwhelms me

the main argument I've heard made wrt the IP thing and AI art is that the AI can only ever combine works from other artists. it has no creative input other than combining works that already exist; which, personally, i would be fine with if it was just being trained on work in the public domain and work from people who consented to be included, but these bots are scraping art from literally everywhere on the web with *very* few opportunities to opt out. even a human artist that's heavily inspired by other creators adds something of their own to the mix, it's kind of impossible *not* to unless you're literally tracing someone else's design, but AI is using art taken from other creators And Nothing Else, which when combined with the fact you can ask it to produce art "in the style of X" gets a lot of artists very mad

that feels like a very esoteric complaint though. how does one measure "creative input," and why does the actual method it uses to create not count? if you can't actually point to a bit of AI art like "thats my OC it clearly lifted that from this painting i did" then it's clearly done SOMETHING transformative. what has it actually stolen? the knowledge that your work exists, somewhere?

as far as i understand it, the main practical reason for "intellectual property" to exist as a legal concept, is to prevent someone from harming someone else's livelihood or reputation by claiming the work as their own. parody and free use are allowed only so far as they are sufficiently different from the source work. but these AIs...don't claim credit for the source works. they don't reproduce the source works anywhere at all. and what they create IS pretty transformative, even if it's in a soulless robot kinda way. it can't really be considered to be "taking away" from sales etc of the original works that exist, because it doesn't actually look like any one of them at all. I think even if I, a human, DID create "here's a collage of tiny pieces of shit i found on deviantart" it would still be considered fair use, but the connection between anything in the data sets and the actual art the AIs produce is much, much more tenuous than that.

I think any way that it could hurt an artist that you could define would also just cover competing artists in general. Even if an AI created a picture of, say, a tree In The Style Of Artist (let's call them Phil), it still wouldn't ACTUALLY be the same as the tree Phil would draw, it would just kinda look similar. and anyone who wanted a tree by Phil would know that this wasn't one, and wasn't worth their time. Phil could draw their own tree, and still sell it, and the AI would only really compete with that among Phil fans if it actually tried to claim that its version WAS by Phil.

This is sort of my main hesitation for the IP argument. we here in fandom spaces exist in a grey area of intellectual property, where EVERYTHING is "in the style of" or "based on" existing properties. if we try to legislate those very conceptual qualities, instead of actual concrete "look this was literally my image it made i published it two years ago," then our spaces will cease to exist.

again, that's not to say there's zero valid complaints about AI art. i definitely see the problem with corporations trying to replace human labor with them because the humans wanted better working conditions. (this is a larger problem imo where any progress in the workplace is stagnated because it will inevitably be used as an excuse to fire people instead of give them less work). and a friend explained to me why it's fairly offensive at the very least to try and bring AI art into what was clearly a space to celebrate the process of making art (eg, contests, writers groups and websites, etc). i just don't think this specific argument is a good path to go down.

This might sound a little bit dramatic, but I am really feeling down these days. It's been many months since I last drew something, I am losing motivation and lack ideas, I feel like a worthless artist with no consistent art style.

I wanted to use my passion as a source of income and tried many platforms to promote my art, but guess what? Nothing worked! It's so frustrating and keeps making me question many things, is my art not enough? Are the prices expensive? Am I doing something wrong? Or are AI websites the problem? Cuz I recently noticed that no fellow artist posted their commissions anymore, did people really give up on us artists or am I being delusional to appease my selfish self?

I don't get it, is it me the problem or AI? I don't have a problem with AI generators, they can be useful in a lot of good ways and I believe that us human artists will not be surpassed by it, but it still makes me sad to see people no longer commission artists, (as I noticed, correct me if I am wrong) nowadays...

And what I noticed as well, is that as long as you draw nsfw or suggestive content you will gain some or a lot of attention compared to fluff and normal stuff and that's what a lot of artists I know did it just to gain some money. And that's what I am going to do as well, taking this path ain't gonna pose a damn problem to me.

I just got a so-called commission two hours ago and guess what? It is likely to be a scam! I was so happy for a moment that I trembled from excitement! I was genuinely joyful for getting my first customer as they were willing to pay right away... Let's just not talk about this one, I feel stupid, I even told my family, beaming with happiness. To just to tell them the minute after that it is probably a 99% scam.

I talked a lot but I just wanted to vent a little bit on how I feel about this whole thing. As you read, I keep jumping from one idea to another, I feel like an attention seeker wanting to get a great audience, yet all I truly want is promoting my art and getting to share what I like to do with many people and why not gain some money as a broke student to buy new drawing material as I am only using my phone. I tried everything, I used Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, DeviantArt, Discord and a lot of unknown platforms and I am sick of this.

I must apologise for the ones who read the whole thing, I know it's too much negativity and I apologise 🙇🏻‍♀️ and I also thank you for giving me some of your precious time!

🌌I drew him in the version of the second ‘generation’ of action figures. If I recall correctly, Ciro Nieli planned to make them look more like old and make their robot parts little damaged as they get older, so I decided to just headcanon it happened, so they decided to upgrade themselves and since their new toy design version never appeared anywhere except for the figures, I adapted to it. Those holes in his helmet are speakers on those toys - I headcannon their function as a heat regulator, since their helmets sure can get too hot for brain to handle sometimes.

⚡️I tried to capture his feelings from the new upgrade and getting ready for new battles or Dark Ages. I couldn’t decide with background, so I added all of my favourites. Let me know which one do you like the most!

🧪Fun fact; Gibson is named after William Ford Gibson, the most influential living writer of speculative fiction, best known as the father of cyberpunk. I only have read his book called Neuromancer and I really recommend it anyone interested in AI or sci-fi. Or literally everyone! And it was such a great idea to name this character after him!

I am just so disappointed and sad by what I read in a shoujo manga. I couldn’t understand what the characters were saying but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what the author was insinuating.

I thought there was serious homophobia going around in it before but I thought maybe I was overthinking the whole thing. I know I wasn’t I was just trying to make myself feel better.

But now it seems like I was spot on with my observations.

Never thought some shoujo mangakas are going to sink so low as to make a character who seems/is gay try to break up the marriage of the main straight couple. Like seriously, you ran out of all cliché, lame ass bullshit that makes up most of shoujo manga plots that you had to drag a gay character into the mix.

God, just say you hate gay people and get out. No need to make them villain like in your story. Take lessons from Clamp if you really want to write same sex relationships or a lgbt character. Or maybe from the author of Hana Kimi. Because you are doing a shit job of portraying them the way you do. How can anyone even write garbage like this in 2020 and get away with it?

If you don’t know how to write lgbt character just write them out, do not include them. It’s annoying, highly disrespectful and gross.  

No wonder many fans of shoujo/shonen are also of mind : same sex relationships can be used for humor or comedic effect. We don’t want any real, serious relationships. We don’t like them.

Why are there so many shonen ai, yaoi, shoujo ai anime? Where are straight fucking anime?

Are writers really that upset because more and more people are liking shonen ai, bl, yaoi manga that they have to resort to these petty, horrible tactics in their manga to insult a genre that badly?

I was of mind to buy the manga because the art was very pretty, but now. No way in hell I want that homophobic trash in my collection. Pretty art will only go so far.

This behavior isn’t even surprising if I am being honest here. I have come across a lot of FM stories/fics which literally use derogatory words, slurs for gay people. And, yes, it’s mostly for MM relationship not FF. There is also apparently selective homophobia going around too. FF is fine, it’s MM which is wrong.

FF is fetishized like anything by straight story writers. It’s just so gross to read the straight guy fantasizing about two females as if they exist to make your gross fantasies true. Eww.

Then you have the real winners, the so called writers who want change, diversity in MM ships by turning one character into a freaking girl.

Just say you want straight sex, tons of babies and the dominant male spouting how much he wants to fuck the OFC and  see her round with his babies or some other cringe worthy dirty talk.

There’s the hard core truth which will never change, the genderbent characters are OFC. They are just self-insert to live your fantasies with the other guy. At least admit the truth.

Harry is a boy and will always be that. No amount of fem harry bullshit will turn him into a girl. Some even have the audacity to give the oc a brother who is exactly like Harry. Just say you hate Harry and same sex relationships and get out.

I sigh every time when I see the crack stories appear in my pairing, HP/TMR, tag. Just be brave and list them as oc fics. They are that and always will be that. Stay deluded forever thinking fem Harry exists. Why are they even part of the real, slash ship tag? Who the fuck is femHarry?

I wouldn’t be surprised if in said shoujo manga the male lead humiliates the seemingly gay character, or makes fun of him or does something equally loathsome. After all he has made his braindead, stupid, completely garbage of a wife cry, insecure. He deserves to be hurt.

The fem lead is just so stupid it’s not even funny. Most people read it because of the handsome guy, that’s the truth. The girl is so weird and dumb that I am surprised someone even came up with her character.

Then again most shoujo heroines don’t have anything between their ears. They are the ultimate Mary sues, doormats, crybabies or bamfs like anything. They share quite many features with the cracky ofc/genderbent females in fics.

Thank God for mangas like Akatsuki no yona! I would lose faith in shoujo genre if it weren’t for such good stories.

Since we are on the topic of bias, let’s talk about that too. I wouldn’t even be surprised if that weird as hell thing happens in that fanfic sequel anime. Straight ships get away with any bullshit, no matter how weird or strange they are.

There would literally be opposition if the same was shown in any same sex relationship.

Giving the example of Twilight to justify yourself, seriously? Bella tried to kill Jacob after she realizes what he has done. It was weird that he had feelings for Bella then all of a sudden his whole world is Bella and Edward’s daughter. Does that not sound strange at all? (VK has same bull. Ai was first after Zero, then became fixated on his daughter who also returns her creepy affections. Zeki and airen are just so bad. I’ll take Zero/Kaname any day.)

I read a very good post once and it may have been a joke post but it was so freakin true. Why didn’t Jacob feel any attraction towards Edward? Why only Bella? Renesmee was part of both of them or am I supposed to think Bella somehow made her on her own?

Not to mention it’s hilarious as hell when one self insert creepy ship tries to tell another self insert ship we are better than you. Nah, you are both trash of different varieties. One is a pedo ship, one is gross as hell. Thinking the only logical choice for someone is that person’s brother’s wife is amazing. Lady Izayoi was no ones mistress, Inuyasha was never ever a bastard. Inu no Taishou/Touga married Izayoi, he loved her and his child so much that he died for them.

Die mad insulting them, they will always always be one of the best couple in this series. Pedo ship, sister in law /brother in law ship can only wish they were like them, they will never be like them. They are both vile.

Certified pedo’s mom was either a one night stand, or had friends with benefits relationship with Touga. He didn’t commit any infidelity, he didn’t betray her, he didn’t two time her. Her ass is chilling in her palace and has absolute no animosity towards him. The greatest disservice to her character will be if they were to make her a creepy pedo enabler too. I hope she never shows up.

Mates don’t exist in inuyasha, she was no one’s mate. More likely, youkai have no such things as bastards. Because that’s exactly what the certified pedo would be if that were not the case, Inu no Taishou and inukimi were never ever married.

I just hope they won’t bring back Touga and Izayoi in this disgusting and vile sequel, they are the only two people left in this series who are not goddamn pedo enablers.

He and Izayoi were good, happy, couple who loved each other and people can stay mad about it. I always thought Touga loved his sons equally and all the trials he put his first son through were so he realises he is wrong about many things. (A/N things are subject to change even after this, but not stray too far from this) (and i used this template for filling out, but changed a bit here and there and took out information i felt wasn’t necessary at the moment)

Name (last, first): Tokage (トカゲ meaning Lizard) Chiharu (千春 meaning one thousand springs) Nickname(s): Haru. Age: 12 in part 1, 16 in part 2 Species: Human Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Straight Birthday: March 1st Body Type/Looks: slightly larger than average build, wider hips and bossom (when she’s older). Height: 160cm in part 1, 170cm in part 2 and after Weight: 55kg in part 1, around 70 in part 2, fluctuates between mission types due to eating.

————————————————– Life Story: Chiharu is part of an old clan specializing in lizards. At the time she was born the clan leader was a fanatic, obsessed with perfection, and she would dispose of any imperfect children born in the clan. However she was not heartless, and let the children live, hidden away deep within a basement, telling the parents their children had been still born. Chiharu had been one such child, born from another ‘imperfect’ child, the clan leader’s own daughter Tokage Ichigo. The clan leader led the Clan only because she was the oldest, in reality she was part of one of the branch families, closest to the main family.

Her first years were spent in the basement, along with other ‘imperfections’. Her mother had been expelled in secret from the clan, and came to rescue her one night along with the other children. She lived with her mother for another 2 years until Chiharu was 5, when Ichigo was attacked during the night. Chiharu were turned to the orphanage, and her assigned guardian had been Hatake Kakashi, who was just 19 at the time. Ichigo had considered him a good and close friend, and thought the responsibility would be good for him. Kakashi felt burdened by the responsibility, and wanted to have as little as possible to do with the young girl. Never the less, he visited her a few times between missions, still wanting to check up on her.

Chiharu tried hard to impress the young man, who she began calling father when she was 6 years old, due to her understanding of what a father was. Kakashi ordered her to not call him dad in the beginning, but begrudgingly came to realize the young girl was set. It caused him to visit her far less, which just prompted the young girl to try even harder. She began training with old ninja weapons she found around, trying to make them stick to the trees surrounding the orphanage.

Kakashi still didn’t pay her too much attention, until she started at the academy. On her first day he came home late from a mission, just before nightfall, only to find her sitting outside the gates of the school. Her excuse was that all the other kids, as far as she could tell, had been picked up by their parents and taken home. Kakashi brought her home to the orphanage that day, and promised her to at least take her home whenever he could from school. 5 months into her first year, she moved into his house.

She became a Genin at age 12, along with the rest of her team, also consisting of orphans of Imperfect children, Hana and Kisara Tokage. She participated in the Chunin exams along with Naruto and the rest, making it to the third round where she defeated a ‘proper’ Genin from the Tokage clan. Her teammate Hana passed, while Kisara failed. But both Hana and Chiharu opted out of the third round, not feeling good about possibly going up against the likes of Neji, Sasuke and Gaara, all whom they had a certain level of fear of after seeing their elimination fights.

After Sasuke left the village, Chiharu was not personally affected seeing as how she didn’t know they boy very well. She began training her jutsu, trying to develop her own or change the ones she knew. She began going into Water Manipulation jutsus, and became quite skilled. Due to her reputation with Water based jutsu, and news of her developing a jutsu to create water out of seemingly thin air, she helped out Suna during a time of drought. Her first escort from the Konoha to Suna was with Gaara and two other ninjas. It created tension as Chiharu still remembered how he acted during the Chunin exams. But she did her best to not show fear towards him and be civil.

Tension was created by her and the two Chunin ninja. Chiharu was still unable to sleep without a light on at night, and had a lamp with her on the trip. The two could not sleep properly with the light flickering most of the night, and on the second night they demanded that Chiharu had the lamp unlit during the night which she promptly refused. When night fell the two approached the lamp, which woke Chiharu up. Before any conflict ensued Gaara defused it by saying he’d make Chiharu a tent out of sand, blocking the light from the two others. They agreed to this and went back to their sleeping bags. Chiharu requested that the ‘tent’ would have at least one hole, facing away from the two others. Gaara allowed this and the rest of the mission went smoothly.

Chiharu offered her services to Suna as often as she could, using the time to train her ability and maximizing the amount of chakra converted to water.

She was present in Suna for one such mission at the time of Gaara’s kidnapping, but did not know about it until he was returned home. After he was returned home she fretted about him, though not directly as she wasn’t allowed close to him at all times, and vented her concerns to Temari. ——————————————- Personality: Chiharu is cheerful and loud. She doesn’t stand out in personality as much as others do, but she tries to remain cheerful as much as possible. One example is if her arm’s cut off and she’ll Good Habit(s): Bad Habit(s): Due to her treatment and label of ‘imperfect’ Chiharu has problems with people commenting on her appearance in negative ways, mostly when it’s about her hair. Like(s): cooking, sweets, meat, singing. Dislike(s): sour candy, extremely hot days and dry climates. Hobbies: She likes cooking, mostly coming from the fact that Kakashi didn’t have time to cook with his missions, and so she made him dinner every day she came home from the academy. I like the start of her history – it’s a cool and twisted concept, the idea of disposing of imperfect children. Reminds me of the Vikings and Romans leaving unwanted children to die in the wilderness. How did Chiharu’s mother know where she and the other children were though to rescue her? I like that you kept Kakashi’s awkward personality in mind and that he wouldn’t warm to her immediately. How did Kakashi and Ichigo know each other though?

The need for her guardian’s approval is a good impetus for her to get stronger too, especially with Kakashi acting contrary to it.

What exactly made Kakashi change his mind about taking her to school and letting her stay at his house? Was it peer pressure from Gai/Asuma/Kurenai maybe? Or did she remind him of Rin? I think there should be an internal reason Kakashi suddenly changed his attitude towards her in the space of five months.

I like that you mentioned her apathy towards Sasuke leaving; not everyone was affected by it after all.

The act of using Water Jutsus without a readily available source is considered one of the highest demonstrations of ninja skills there is – the fact that Tobirama Senju could do it proved to many that he should be Hokage. How did Chiharu come to master this skill enough to even help with a drought in a Sand Country? I doubt she could have reached that level without training under a ninja with a Water Jutsu speciality at least.

I think Chiharu having to sleep with a light on would have been stamped out of her very quickly during her academy/genin days – to have a light on all through the night would signal one’s position to any passing enemies and so would put the whole team in danger. You might have to think of another way to have Chiharu and Gaara get closer.

Just a note, but Genjutsu doesn’t rely on moisture or anything like that; it’s a psychic illusion, or a form of hypnosis depending on whom you ask. Do you mean Bunshin technique? So Water Clones?

How exactly would her water control help her specialise in assassination?

Maybe don’t make her be clingy and over the top to Gaara? I expect his reaction to that would be to push her away rather than fall in love with her more, considering that it was only recently that he received any form of physical human contact or positive emotional reactions to himself.

I would lower her Speed a bit – you didn’t show any particular focus in her description to her being known for her speed. A 9/10 is almost on the level of the Yellow Flash or Shisui Uchiha.

Manufactured Idiocy

I try to build bridges between myself and NTs all the time, one such effort was a neurotypical friend I picked up from an interesting community of people I cavorted with for a time, before the social interactions just got the best of me. I tried to believe that he could come around and not see everything from a tribal perspective, that he wouldn't always be trying to convert people to his tribe through fallacy, trickery, and force. It didn't work out. We're no longer friends. You see, the issue I have with NTs is the one that gave rise to the alt-right; An NT isn't able to accept that someone might disagree with them. It's just not within their power to accept that a person can exist outside of the tribes they believe they're in, and that that person can still be an equal. You must either be converted (forcibly, through pressure and bullying) into their tribes or you're somehow lesser. I ee this often in neurotypical debating tactics, and it's something I've come to think of as manufactured idiocy. It's where the NT tries to force the other person to feel unintelligent for not agreeing with them. The NT will claim that you're not bright enough to understand their explanation, that you can't grasp what it is they're saying, that somehow this is happening due to a failure to convey something in terms simple and comprehensible enough for their opponent to understand. You see, in their view, if they could do that then their opponent would naturally agree with them, or at least say that their opinions are valid, and all would be unicorns farting scented rainbows. The NT, being on the sociopathic spectrum, will use character assassination and try to undermine someone's self-esteem as these, to them, are valid tactics. The point is getting the person to agree, not the mutual sharing of information. Whereas on the autistic spectrum, when you have a person who's truly autistic (and this is an easy way to tell), you can have two people who'll be able to share ideas back and forth, disagree, and then not think of one another as lesser for doing so. I can hear the NTs out there now 'that's a fantasy, that's not how humanity ever works!' No, that's an autistic person's reality. My autistic partner and I do it all the bloody time, we disagree on some things but we respect one another as we are, both of us, cognizant of the importance of the diversity of thought. Innovation doesn't happen without the diversity of thought. The disagreement was about the kind of creativity I personally find appealing. I'll stress this, it wasn't about the 'correct' form of it, nor was it about the 'only' form of it, but rather the manner that I, personally, find to be the most appealing. It was an argument that arose from the most ridiculous source, because it always is with neurotypicals, they can make an absolute binary tribal-oriented focus out of any nonsense. You see, because I had a preference that wasn't their preference, I deserved to be struck down, smote for my opinion. How dare I? How dare! I said that I enjoyed creativity that arose from the fluke, that the optimisation of that fluke was less interesting to me on a personal level. I had to say this as the NT in question was pressuring me to be interested in how they were putting elements of a Minecraft mod pack together, in ways which I had done, and I'd known other people had as well. They believed there was something special in their way of following things to their logical conclusion that no one else had, as NTs love being special snowflakes. I find that NTs always have a propensity for that flavour of egomania, unfortunately. I explained to them that it was the fluke, the discovery, where someone found an entirely new use for something that was interesting to me. This lead them off on a mad spiel about how optimisation was as true a form of creativity as any (I never said it wasn't, you see), and that I should accept their gloriously brilliant, fantastic, creative mind and praise them for their efforts. Again, NTs tend to have an ego problem and if you don't feed their ego they can get quite nasty. Whereas, conversely, other spectrums (such as the autistic spectrum) are more prone to experiencing self-esteem and low confidence issues. i tried to explain to them that when an artist is simply mass-producing their work and never really trying anything new, it isn't interesting to me. I find that there's a lot of this on deviantART where artists will always use exactly the same side profile for everything, never bothering to learn about photography to practise different camera angles. I pointed out that my partner's favourite art pieces were the ones where they had attempted to set aside what they know and try stuff, and hten -- through a fluke -- discovered ways to make their art more interesting. In this way their artistic talent grows. That's what I find interesting about creativity. Apparently I absolutely need to equally value the person who takes that fluke and optimises it a little and see it as every bit as creative as the person who did that. It's like, yeah, you could just copy someone else's fluke and get the results that way but that isn't as interesting to my mind (personally, to me, I had to absolutely stress as a disclaimer) as the person who was just mucking about and found they could do something. An example I gave is that say you have an environment artist in a video game, clambering around the environment they created to see if they could find their way to places they shouldn't be able to. They reach a plateau and, even though it wasn't intended for the player to get there, they keep that path open so that others can see it. Then, the person gets an idea, it's certainly fulfilling to get here but what if it could be more rewarding? They plop a chest down there, fo rthe player to find if they manage to clamber up this insane, unintentional obstacle course. And lo, jumping puzzles are born. The person who comes along and optimises the jumping puzzle later to ensure that the geometry is correct and that the player has the smoothest experience is quite important, yes, but that's just taking what was already there to its logical conclusion. It isn't the same, for me, as the person who had the idea to put a chest atop that plateau in the first place. That's the kind of thing that inspires me, those stories are compelling as it's something impressive about how the human mind works. I find the fluke to be intriguing, and I personally feel that's a very important piece of the puzzle to solve in the process of crafting a thinking AI. This leads to a spiel about math and formula. I'm a computer programmer, he isn't, so this is especially funny to me. I sat there feeling devastated as he insulted my aptitude and told me that I didn't understand heuristics, formulaic systems, or anything like that. If I understood them as he did, I’d agree. Same as if I understood science the ‘correct’ way Creationists, Dark Matter Prophets, or Flat Earthers do I’d agree with them. Which I really don’t. I guess I don’t understand science, then! Poor me. Poor uneducated, stupid me.

It got to the point where I was just sadly shaking my head as I felt really hurt by this, it was just so petty of him to undermine me in this way, to try and attack me and bully me into accepting his viewpoint by insidiously attacking something I take pride in. I'm easily hurt, I have self-esteem issues. I wonder if I were neurotypical if that would've worked. Instead, I called him on his shit. I told him that insulting me and claiming that I couldn't understand math just because I didn't agree with his personal preference (I hope you see how WTF this is) is incredibly toxic and manipulative. I was tempted then and there to just call him on what he was behaving most like -- a vile sociopath. Instead, I asked him for exact examples to prove to me that I just couldn't understand his point. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Why? I don't know. I guess I just want to believe in people. There's that optimistic part of me that genuinely wants to believe that NTs aren't as horribly manipulative, Machiavellian, and borderline sociopathic as I've continued to find they are. In this way I will admit that I am an idiot, because I'm running the same experiment over and over and expecting a different result. I suppose I just want to believe in humanity, I want to have faith in us. I don't want to be any kind of misanthrope, I feel this plays on my guilt a lot. It leaves me open to attacks like this. So I gave him every opportunity. He gave me vague hypotheses that I pointed out didn't match reality. I kept asking for examples and finally he brought up the Tracer controversy. There was an opinion going around that Blizzard actually created that situation in order to get people angry to drive interest toward their game, and knowing that Blizzard does tend to be like that (they did make the most thoroughly, intentionally addictive game we’ve ever seen), I couldn't deny the possibility. So that's the example he gave me. The thing is is that even if it was indeed intentional, it was merely the same kind of system that propaganda has used for aeons. It's the very same trickery that British politicians used for Brexit! Just look up 'Nigel Farage anti-migrant poster,' and it's the same systems that Nazi Germany and Cold War America used to successfully propagandise their respective populaces with. It's why telling an American that they're not a 'patriot' is an insult worthy of hatred, these days. These systems have been knocking around for a long time, now, they're hardly new. I pointed this out to him and I told him that, no, I didn't think that it was ingenious, clever, or new. It was just building on something that already existed. I didn't see anything that appealed to my creative preference, there. I don't think he was expecting that, so this further devolved into attacks upon my intelligence and very nasty efforts to undermine my character. Clearly, if I wasn't this 'orrible bloody troglodyte, I'd agree with him. This is exactly what 9/11 Truthers, Dark Matter Prophets, Flat Earthers, Creationists, Skeptiks, the Alt-Right, or any cult-like group does and it's why I dislike them. In these wonderfully neurotypical groups, there's a common element you'll find: If you don't agree with them, you're either an idiot or a lesser creature. It's all down to the tribalism of the neurotypical spectrum, a tribalism that isn't shared by other spectrums. As I'm on the autistic spectrum I'm not so obsessively tribal in my perceptions, and when it does occur I tend to be very self aware of it and I try to fix it. I don't just double down on that tribalist attitude. This is exactly what neurotypicals do, though, isn't it? If they're confronted with how tribalistic they are, they just double down with their tribal-oriented focus rather than attempting to be self aware. My observations seem to find that the neurotypical spectrum is lacking in certain aspects of the 'Theory of Mind,' which fascinates me. That's interesting, isn't it? Oh, that's so interesting! It's almost like the NT view is that their minds are the correct default and fully apply to 'Theory of Mind' (whereas they really don't) and other spectrums don't. The truth is is that different spectrums apply to different parts of the 'Theory of Mind,' some better than others. What I find is that in the case of the neurotypical spectrum, their mindset lacks awareness of their own tribal-oriented biases and focuses, they're fully unable of even thinking outside of those boxes (and god have I tried to get them to). Other spectrums don't seem to have this problem. So, as an interesting artefact of their lack of self awareness, we see what I call Manufactured Idiocy where their cognitive dissonance will have them try to make their opponent seem less intelligent and erudite, even where that's completely contrary to reality. I invite people of other spectrums (including autistic persons, like myself) to talk to NT people and see if you can spot this. It's just one artefact of their lack of self awareness about their own tribalism. And I had to finally call off this acquaintanceship today as it was too harmful to my health, as even my heartfelt efforts to try to just agree to disagree fall flat. I'm tired of having an NT undermine my intellect and character at every turn. An autistic person wouldn't do this. I suspect that other spectrums wouldn't either, in my experience this is very specifically an NT problem due to their tribal-oriented biases and focuses. If you disagree with na NT they will try any nasty, insidious, manipulative tactic to get you to agree. Which includes, as we've covered today, manufactured idiocy. I'm sure that in their cognitive dissonance the NT I've called this acquaintanceship off with thinks that I'm a subhuman troglodyte for not agreeing with them. That isn't mutual. I still like and respect them. I just don't like their attitude. Nor do I like their lack of self awareness about this. The entire point of making this article, really, is so that people are aware of this and this particular tactic so that they don't fall for it due to low self-esteem. My BS alarm was ringing loudly when he tried to pull this on me, so... I'm sharing. I'm just tired by this point, so yes, this is going up on my personal rant blog. I suppose I wouldn't feel this sensitive about it, but this happened after another altercation not very long ago. One where my cat had just died and he actually used that to his advantage, he exploited my vulnerability at that time to try to bring me around to joining one of his little tribes. When you're not on the NT spectrum it's interesting just how opaque and nauseating these manipulation tactics are. And that's the reason why I'm sure of my opinion about how minds are actually separated. One which other psychologists are waking up to. My opinion, for those not aware, is that introverts aren't separate from the autistic spectrum, they're merely on an even shallower end of it than Aspies. It seems like Aspies are the middle of the road between introverts and being fully autistic. In my opinion, there are numerous spectrums like this, and one such spectrum is the NT spectrum itself. On the most shallow end you have affiliative extraverts who're the least manipulative, then you have agentic extraverts who're the halfway point, on the extreme end you have sociopathy as part of the same spectrum. This explains the differences in empathy. For example, if an Aspie sees news of a person dying on television, they might not cover their mouth and make a song and dance about it as part of a social construct, but they will be the ones thinking about that a week down the line and wondering how society could be changed to stop these tragic events from occurring. The agentic extravert, for example, will cover their mouth, gasp, and look sad but if you ask them about it an hour later they won't have any recollection of what you're talking about. It's just gone. It's my position that the NT spectrum is simply just more manipulative and less empathetic than other spectrums, which is why they have this tribal focus to begin with. The tribal-oriented biases and focuses are what fuel their manipulation, it's all about hierarchy and wanting to be the 'top dog,' which is very common amongst autistic thinkers. I can pull the most obvious example, here, and cite the toxic philosophy of 'alphas and betas' often spread around by neurotypicals. You won't hear autistic people spread this philosophy as it's really unpopular with us. I spent some time researching this, too. I read around Wrong Planet and what I found was that autistic people were profoundly confused and vexed by it, none of them really knew what an 'alpha' male was. There was a lot of consternation and discussion as they tried to figure it out. It's just second nature to an NT though as everything in the NT world is hierarchies and tribes, it's just how minds on the neurotypical spectrum work. Anyway, I'm tired. I'm done with NTs. I'm still feeling sensitive about the loss of my cat and the last thing I need is to put up with underhanded, shady, manipulative tactics like manufactured idiocy. I miss my fucking cat, I'd rather be focusing on that than the bullshit the neurotypical spectrum tends to hoist on me. If you need more resources, though? Look up 'alpha bodybuilder' to cover the hierarchical stuff; 'Autistic people aren't failed versions of normal' to see an example of the NT perception that being different from them is the same as being innately inferior; And just about any video by TL;DR (Teal Deer) on YouTube for examples of manufactured idiocy. I really wish I wasn't so certain about all of this, but every time I try to find contradictory evidence (I try to fight my cognitive biases at every turn), I’ll find mountains more evidence that supports my views instead. The whole reason I bothered to hang around an NT even after they fucked with me when my cat died is to try and prove to myself that I'm wrong about the neurotypical spectrum, that it's not just a case of terrifyingly extreme sociopathy at one end to much more watered down sociopathy at the other. I actually had this post up not so long ago where I was furious at them for even trying to bully, manipulate, and fuck with me right after my cat died. I pulled that post. I pulled it because I felt bad for them, even though I didn't name them by name, so no one would even know who they are. I should've just left it up. That's an NT person for you, though. "Oh.
