Ghost Jam 2024 results

The results of Ghost Jam 2024 are here!

This year we had a total of 24 ghosts submitted, by 36 participants! The number of overall ghosts continues to hold steady, while the number of people joining the event has increased!

Of the submitted ghosts, 5 completed the 72 Hour challenge (with multiple ghosts being submitted a day or more before the 72 hour deadline!), 10 completed the Add an Extra challenge, and 12 completed the New Assets Only challenge. We saw many wonderful interpretations of the optional celestial theme, as well!

Once again, we've seen a huge variety in the styles of ghosts released, and many new and interesting angles explored! Please give every single one of them a try if you can, I promise it will be worth your time.

have I talked about this before? I don't know. I feel like in emergency situations, Taco faints. Usually on command. Fall Feast - A day full of hunting leading into a night full of prey and celebration. Usually celebrated on the brightest night of Leaf-Fall

The Hunt - Basically a game of tag between warriors, while the younger cats and ones not participating celebrate in camp, dressing up in whatever they can find (think Halloween for cats)

Windclan:

New Moon gatherings, no work during the day and stay up all night to share-tongues with clanmates and the stars above.

Wall paintings/carvings - Using paste and dye like materials to draw on the sturdy walls of camp, telling tales of the older times.

Storytelling is a very important practice here

Winter Solstice (think gift giving and remembering their kin)

Riverclan:

Shell necklaces, each with a different accessory to show the personality of the cat and any endeavors they have been in.

Basket weaving

Courtship rituals (Gift giving)

All the clans are open! Roles such as warriors, apprentices, elders, queens and kits are all welcome. Each having a unique role for each of them.

(COUNT)DOWN TO DAWNTRAIL FREE DAY ･*☆

When I made the (Count)Down to Dawntrail challenge, the one thing I was most excited for was the Free Day. I had specifically stated one of the options you could do for this day was to talk about how the people you met through XIV and how they made a positive impact on your life, and that was what I was going to do.

For me, when I started doing my question drives however long ago, I was committed to being the change I wanted to see in the world. While the XIV community is a cut above the rest in that people are genuinely interested in other oc's, ships and work(s), I have been in communities where that's not the case, and I know the sensation of feeling like you are putting your work out there, putting your work out there and putting your work out there... and it feels like no one is interested.

Equally, I have also felt the cut of anxiety as it goes, 'I really want to interact with this person, but what if they think I'm weird? What if they take it the wrong way?'

—So what if they think I'm weird?

That was kind of my whole mantra. I was going to make as genuine effort as I could muster to interact with the community, send asks to people and to try and learn/remember as much as I could. I wanted people to feel like someone was reading their work and confident to reach out to people they were interested in getting to know.

If someone wanted to take a bad-faith interpretation of my work, so what? So what if they think I'm weird; so what if they don't like me? Nothing I could do was ever going to change their mind, so why should I worry about an insignificant possibility that wasn't going to affect me beyond a block and a funny story to tell my friends? And if that small risk was going to earn me more friends with whom I could share more funny stories with... isn't the risk worth it? Be kind, take no shit; the same mantra I have carried with me since 2023.

Not only that, but if I could inspire other people to reach out and interact too, wouldn't that be amazing? I think we're all conditioned online to be afraid of being 'too much'; too weird, too forward, too outgoing. We all want interaction but are afraid to interact in case its misinterpreted. That sucks. In my mind, if I interacted—if I even showed other people who would respond to their efforts positively—and they reached out behind me, that was worth it.

Cultivating that kind of community is always worth it.

It's been a very healing journey for me, honestly. I've come out of my shell a lot, dispelling my own anxieties and coming to grips with my traumas that were honestly the result of just bad happenstance and the fact I was young—rather than me doing anything obscenely wrong. I have met lots of wonderful people, read so many interesting stories and learned so much about a myriad of fascinating WoL's (and regular ocs!). I've also met people who are interested in my work, even if I tend to showcase it a lot less.

So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Thank you for supporting me with the Compendium. Thank you for enthusiastically replying to my asks. Thank you for supporting me with (Count)Down to Dawntrail. Thank you for setting aside a little space for me in your day, because none of these projects would have a hope of working without the support of the community. That's the honest truth.

Some more rambling thoughts on Celestia and the royal ponies:

Unlike Celestia, Luna is (By the standards of the divine) relatively neurotypical , she was just out of date but adapted quickly and easily. Her habit of dream walking means she might have some other stuff going on.

But in these regards, her trying to very much be like Celestia 1000 years ago may have contributed a bit to her fall in that she avoided expressing any of her negative feelings until they built up and exploded.

One thing Luna struggles to realize is that just as trying to be like Celestia was hard for her. Being Celestia is hard for her too, but before she realizes that it just feeds her inferiority complex & isolates Celestia.

In these regards as well, Celestia being written as autistic hits on a lot of familiar feels and no shortage of angst. Because imagine the way you love best being insufficient, or even considered 'wrong'?

Imagine walking on Fabergé egg shells for eternity, all too aware of the layers of barrier and social convention isolating you from others but unable to breech them.

We see how uncomfortable she is with a lot of how ponies treat her, but she's unable to come out and say it, there's no protocol for that and she knows how impactful her approval or disapproval is.

So she's stuck in this position that embodies reverence is the farthest thing from understanding. Not surprised she started resorting to orchestrating minor drama behind the scenes so she can have an excuse to break protocol.

In these regards her dynamic with Cadence can be fun to explore as well, cos Cadence in some ways knows her better than even Luna!

After all, Cadence is innately magically empathic, she can't avoid feeling these sides of Celestia the way Luna could avoid her dreams.

This means she is probably one of it not the most aware of the isolated existence Celestia leads, along with how she both loves so deeply but has a mind of wheels and gears that plays into how she presents herself and engages with any kind of problem she meets.

I recall toying with an AU where in this regard Cadence straddled this awkward line between both supporting Celestia's plans and trying to thread the needle to ensure they didn't accidentally (And with the best intentions) go poorly out of a misunderstanding.

IE, I vaguely recall a scene where after Twilight got the letter sending her to Ponyville Cadence showed up at her tower.

She then had to trot this very fine line of validating Twilight's concerns, and not fucking up Celestia's plan.

Celestia was also entirely aware she was doing this and was open with her at least in private that she trusted Cadence on this stuff.

But I digress, that's where I got the wheels and gears line from as Cadence was trying to contextualize Celestia's orders for Twilight in a way she'd not take them the wrong way and also hint that Celestia had plans for Nightmare Moon.

Wish I could remember the exact exchange or where the hell I was going with this, sorry, I have lots of Celestia thoughts XD

Yeah like!

tbh I kinda write them as both kinda autistic in a way but Celestia is the 'detached one who can mask as 'normal' most of the time' while Luna is the 'over-emotional and prone to outbursts when she tries to play 'normal' too long' type.

With Luna it's a lot. In her role as Dreamwalker, she knows that you need to confront your emotions and traumas in healthy ways and unpack them in safe spaces. You need to be allowed to feel.

But Celestia.... doesn't. She shuts down. And Luna's attempts to change that are met with the more authoritative Big Sister is In Charge energy. And while she will sometimes challenge her, as all younger siblings do, there are some times where Big Sister says things with such conviction that you do not fight back.

Especially when it's backed up with.... accidental manipulation. After all, look at Discord? He allowed himself to get so wrapped up in those emotions that he couldn't escape them. You don't want to end up like him, do you?

So Luna tries. Tries to hold everything back. It's for the good of the kingdom. For the good of everyone they care about.

But she's not good at it. Not like Celestia is.

Etc. Jam 2024 has concluded, and here are the results!

Before we get into it, just a reminder that Etc. Jam will be moving to the start of the year, and will take place before Ghost Jam. That means we'll be hosting another one in a few months, so keep an eye out if you'd like to participate!

This year's event was announced at the last minute, so there wasn't as much participation as last year. Even so, there were 8 projects by 7 participants!

Of those projects, 3 of them were balloons, and there was one shell, freeshell, calendar skin, guide, and plugin.

3 projects were completed in just 24 hours, completing the 24 hour challenge, and 3 users completed the variety challenge by creating at least 2 projects of different types!

Small introduction - You can call me Apple which is my online persona (and yes, like the fruit). My socials are all applepicken and it’s different than my Tumblr because I had Tumblr for waaay longer than my new social rebranding a couple years ago. But you can find me on any other social platform using applepicken/ApplePicken if you so please! <3

It looks like I'm becoming more active on Tumblr again (thanks Hayley) so instead of changing my pinned posts weekly and losing them in the dumpster fire that is my brain rot, a master post seemed like the best solution.

Status: WIP, chaptered Rating: Explicit Parts: 3/4 (possibly more planned) Important Tags: Explicit Sexual Content, Fluff and Smut, Very Mild Angst, Slight Miscommunication, Top Eddie, Bottom Steve, Happy Ending Summary: Robin convinces Steve to go out for drinks. Robin also, much to Steve’s dismay, accidentally ghosts and then bails on him. Now he’s stuck nursing a drink at the bar with a guy who at some point found the audacity to talk to him. To his surprise there’s another presence taking the stage here, another person who comes to his rescue, forcing Steve to face a reality he thought he left behind and attempt a convincing performance with a stranger who is not really much of one as Steve originally thought. ~ Cue the lack of brain cells, pining while fucking and dumb men thinking they have unrequited feelings dragged up from the past, a desperate phone call that turns a night of passion into a one night stand, awkward miscommunication at parent pick-up, and a happy ending. Not that kind of happy ending… well yes actually, definitely that kind of happy ending.

Eleanor "Wraith" Knox earned her codename for her specialist skills in marksmanship and knife handling, being the last thing her targets see before their timely end. She joined Task Force 141 under Laswell's recommendation, with praises even coming from Price himself. Eleanor fit in with the team perfectly, except for one - the one who works alone, the man with the skull mask and hardened shell, the one who doesn't like his authority being challenged.
