one of the funniest nuggets of knowledge that comes with being a parks nerd is that tokyo disney and disneysea are consistently regarded as THE best of the disney parks including disneyland and they are a) the only ones not owned by disney in any way and b) far and away much more affordable to visit than the american/european parks with a tiered system to accommodate different financial contexts like students and children and coming after school or during off peak or on the weekdays
for example. an adult can get a "fixed time" ticket at tokyo disney where for 50-60 dollars you can enter the park starting at 10:30. too rich for your blood? you can pay 43 dollars to come at 3 pm. you can come at 5 pm for 30 dollars! disabled adults get discounts with a standard full day ticket WITH an accompanying guest being 50 bucks max.
the most expensive ticket i could find on the current calendar was about 63.50.
the lowest price for a single day ticket to disneyland (NOT including park hopper to california adventure) according to their website is over 100 dollars. they raise ticket prices basically annually.

8/2024: Disneyland Trip!!
I know I usually talk about Disney Dreamlight Valley feeling like my wannabe Disneyland experience, but I asked my mom to have her family friend sign me in for a day-for my birthday in June. Well, disregarding the month-its August and I get to go!
Tumblr media
My family has been heavily into Disney. I used to go as a kid all the time, the family friend Cast Member would sign us in. My grandparents at one point had passes before DL decided to cater to the non-resident customers. After I got older, it was only a handful of times I have gotten back there-a wonderful date, pre-public opening for cast members, and now!
Tumblr media
8/4:
I got dropped off by my partner, and I appreciated it. There are 2 drop offs: on Harbor and Downtown Disney. Quicker way to the park, even with security. I arrived first, the rest of my party took about a half hour to park and get there. One we got in, we tried for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. It was broken down so we went to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
I have been here before but last time I did not get to the rides. But man, just walking around-I feel like a teenager with dreams come true of being in the epic star wars movies I watched with my dad. World building, digital or real, can be very impressive. First ride was Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Honestly, new rides are impressive. Magnets instead of tracks. Also, I FOUND STORM TROOPERS! Then we went to Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The ride itself was really good, the build up/walk to was a little meh.
A ride is built up first in your mind, then you prep for it as you walk and immerse yourself in the surroundings for what is safely up to 30 minute wait, and then you have the ride. Typically not nearly as long as the buildup but worth it when the previous steps are done right.
Also, someone proposed to their partner there and IT WAS THE CUTEST EVER. Like I have heard about that but to see it, man. We ran into the woman later and was like congrats babe your man has excellent taste!
Next we went to Star Tours: The Adventure Continues in Tomorrowland. This is funny to have done next as it was the classic star wars ride compared to the new one. But they made small changes to the ride to make it more like an airport as you are waiting. It was funny. Thunder Mountain was working again, man I don't remember the ride feeling that small-like the structure as you are waiting? Also, I swear you used to be able to put your stuff in a cubby across but oh well.
Food places, like good sit down places had weird varying times of opening. Stalls seemed like they should of been open earlier or more consistently but oh well. Earlier in the day we tried for haunted mansion and got in "virtual queue". We believe that they were halfway done with the Nightmare before christmas transition and that because of less waiting room-they did a group check in approach. Even for getting there early, we were group #120. And the ride broke down once during the day stopping the queue all together for a bit.
We did some shopping, man it was hot as hades out there. We did Pirates of the Carribean in New Orleans Square. Lots of changes happening there, Splash Mountain is being changed to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Tiana's Place has taken over a nearby restaurant. Pirates was amazing. We went back to Thunder Mountain and it broke down while we were on it, not worried at all. We also did Indiana Jone's Adventure. Funny enough, my nephew into horror games thought it was too scary-kids today! Just before leaving-Haunted Mansion called us. It is so neat to see it mostly done for the upcoming season!
The ride itself looked amazing, as it usually does. It stopped twice, and honestly I was a little worried it seemed to be struggling more than it usually does. We had a park hopper ability, but we were all a bit tired and not much we wanted to go on. California Adventure has some cool things, but I preferred the drop ride when it was from The Twilight Zone, and the Incredicoaster is just California Screamin' with a face lift. Soaring over California is pretty cool too.
We had Lightning Passes for this trip, and while I have my own reservations about using that kind of thing-it helps to get the most of the experience. You could only book 2 rides at a time and not all rides were friendly for it. There's watches you could wear and interact with the park but the app does everything the watch does. We were there for about half a day? Pretty good haul for the time there.
Some change is good, some change is meh. The digital age is alive and well. We are considering getting annual passes when they become available again. Maybe even getting Magic Bands. There are still many places in Disneyland my nephew has not experienced that are on the list for next time.

Here's Everything You Need to Know About Disneyland Pricing in 2023
Disneyland is known for being "The Happiest Place on Earth," but with the rising cost of Disneyland ticket prices, planning a visit to the theme park can feel less joyful and more stressful. If you're starting to budget for the trip, here's what you need to know about ticket pricing. For starters, the company has undergone several changes to its operations and ticketing management since closing to the public at the beginning of the pandemic, and the updated ticketing system is probably the biggest change of them all. In February 2020, Disneyland introduced a tiered structure for one-day park tickets (which includes entry into either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park) and one-day park hoppers (which includes access to both parks on the same day). Each tier contains a selection of dates for guests to book. (Tier 0 being the cheapest ticket up to Tier 6 being the most expensive.) The higher the tier, the greater the flexibility when booking. For example, Tier 6, the newest and most expensive tier, guarantees more flexibility by allowing visitors to schedule their trip on any of the viable days outlined in Tiers 1 through 6. Disney also introduced Tier 0 tickets in 2022, a one-day ticket for $104 per day that can be used during the least-crowded days of the year. (For more info on tiered tickets and blackout dates, visit Disneyland's ticketing page.) If you're looking for multiday park tickets, there is no tiered system. Instead, there are set prices for two-day through five-day tickets. You can find the new Disneyland ticket prices for 2023 detailed in the chart below. Disneyland Ticket Tier Pricing Information For Adults and Children Ticket Type Adult (One Park Per Day) Adult Park Hopper Child (One Park Per Day) Child Park Hopper One Day (Tier 0) $104 $169 $98 $163 One Day (Tier 1) $114 $179 $108 $173 One Day (Tier 2) $129 $194 $122 $187 One Day (Tier 3) $144 $209 $136 $201 One Day (Tier 4) $159 $224 $150 $215 One Day (Tier 5) $169 $234 $159 $224 One Day (Tier 6) $179 $244 $169 $234 Two Day $285 $345 $270 $330 Three Day $360 $420 $340 $400 Four Day $395 $455 $370 $430 Five Day $415 $475 $390 $450 Visitors can also contact Ticket Services for the latest information on the ticketing system. Similarly, ticketing information can also be accessed through the My Disney Experience mobile app by checking your individual account reservations. - Additional reporting by Melanie Whyte and Melissa Santoyo https://www.popsugar.com/family/disneyland-ticket-tiers-48267208?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

What's a girl got to do to get some Disney tickets?
There’s been a lot going on in my life this quarter; between moving forward into more significant engineering classes, to working seemingly endlessly on Chem lab assignments, to turning 20, I just really felt like I wanted to do something fun, to give myself a day off to relax. And being the extremely nostalgic born-and-raised in Southern California girl that I am, what better way to unwind than by going to Disneyland! But, as an econ student, I figured I should probably look into the economics of buying myself a ticket to Disneyland first.
The last time I bought a single day ticket to the theme park was in 2020 (just a month or two before the pandemic really hit Southern California). Looking at ticket prices within the past few months, it’s obvious something has drastically changed about the way the Disney Company is setting their prices.
Both single park and park hopper tickets have drastically increased within the past year. Being a broke college student though of course I only looked at the cheapest option: a ticket for a single day in a single park. And of course the total came out to be $179. Yeah… that wasn’t quite as magical a price as I was hoping for.
But what’s changed in the past few years to make the price of admission to Disneyland so high?
Well, the most obvious answer is the pandemic. After cases started picking up in Southern California, Disneyland, like many other theme parks and entertainment-based businesses had to suddenly close and as in-person activities, were unable to sell their product or receive any revenue. In the 13 months that Disneyland was closed, they reportedly saw a $109 million deficit. And on the flip side, the customers missed out on being able to get into Disneyland or potentially use their annual passes for that duration, and were obviously missing out on going out to other fun places, like the movies, or restaurants, or basically anything that wasn’t the grocery store.
All of this contributes to that fact that now that Disneyland is open again, there has been a huge increase in demand for tickets to the theme park; according to a report by the Themed Entertainment Association, attendance in 2021 at Disneyland increased by about 133% to 8.5 million visitors. In the past few years, several new rides have also been added (most recently Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad), and classic attractions like Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure, and Toon Town were announced to be shut down temporarily for refurbishment or retheming, creating more excitement for fans to get in to the parks as soon as possible to be able to enjoy their favorite rides before it was too late.
This increase of people trying to buy tickets to Disneyland can be represented by the demand curve shifting upwards and to the right.
Tumblr media
Additionally, Disneyland and the Disney Company can be considered an oligopoly, because there are several other theme parks in Southern California, but there is product differentiation, as the types of rides and themes of the attractions differ between the parks. In this kind of market, Disneyland will choose to set prices at the point where the marginal revenue is equal to the marginal cost, so, when the demand curve shifts up and to the right, it results in an increase in the price of each ticket when the same quantity is sold.
In the end, it’s really up to the Disney Company how much they want to charge for their tickets, and given the continually rising attendance to their parks even as the prices go up, it looks like they’ve been pretty successful in continuing to increase their profits to make up for pandemic-related losses. As the consumer, I am the price taker, and it’s up to me to decide whether or not I want to buy myself a ticket at the given price.
But there’s more than just the explicit cost of buying a ticket for admission. In addition to the obnoxious extra costs of gas and parking, I have to think about other associated costs of taking a day off to go to Disneyland. There's the opportunity cost of what else I could be doing that day (like for example, studying for an upcoming Econ final). Even if I go during Spring Break, there's extra costs of food and souvenirs, which always seem to add up quicker than I expect. To help me decide how to spend my extra for-fun spending money, I can create an indifference curve to help me decide how to delegate my extra funds.
Tumblr media
Each curve on the indifference curve represents combinations of food and souvenirs that result in the same level of satisfaction and enjoyment of my day. For example, I might be equally happy to buy 4 snacks (like churros and Dole Whips, yum!) and 2 Disney-themed sweaters as I am to buy 1 snack and 3 sweaters. As you move up to each new indifference curve, you can find combinations of snacks and souvenirs which would be more satisfying than the curve below it. This is because of the more-is-better assumption of economics - because it's almost always better to get to have 2 churros as opposed to 1, right? To help keep myself in check while at Disneyland, I would first set my budget for the day of the total amount of extra money I want to spend on snacks and merch. Adding that line onto the indifference curve, I can find the highest point on any indifference curve that intersects with my budget to find the combination of the two goods, snacks and souvenirs, that will leave me the happiest at the end of the day.
In the end, it's going to cost a lot of money to spend a day in Disneyland, and justifying what total price I am willing to pay is going to be a personal decision. But through the concepts we learned about in our economics class, I am able to think about what has lead to these raised costs and how I can best utilize my scare resource of my budget to make the most out of my day in the happiest place on Earth.

Planning Your First Disney Trip: Getting to the Parks
Yay! You’re ready to start planning your first Disney trip! Well, maybe you’ve gone before as a kid, but it’s time to get serious. Disney planning can get exhausting if you’re not too experienced with the parks. There are so many tips and tricks that I can give, but here is a crash course on simply planning the trip, specifically Disneyland. In this post we’ll go over the best time to go, how long you should stay and where to plan to spend your time, and planning ahead to maximize your time and why! If you’d like to just skip ahead and get the info, I’ll bold all the important info to get right down to it. I’ll be doing a series of first Disney trip posts covering the different aspects on how to make your Disney trip as magical as it can be!
Best Time to Go
Tumblr media
Disneyland is a very popular destination for people all over the world, it’s important to be mindful of when you go so you can really enjoy it. While it may seem exciting to go during the holidays like Halloween and Christmas time, those are the busiest and most crowded times and the time of year you do go effects how much your tickets will cost. Hotel and travel fares will also be very high. Putting cost aside, during the holidays, the parks are decorated and there are different shows, attractions, even the characters are dressed differently! Definitely go during this time, but not for the first time. Without all the dazzle of the holidays, Disneyland is still a very magical place with many surprises and magical moments! Try avoiding any times the California districts are on school breaks as well. The locals love getting as much Disney as they can whenever they can! January, February, April, May (right around Mother’s Day), and early September are the ideal times to book your trip!
How Long to Stay & Where to Go
Tumblr media
If you spend any less than three days at the parks, you’re really missing out! One day at Disneyland, one day at California Adventure, and one day to get in everything you missed or want to try again! Let’s be real, you are not going to be able to experience everything Disney has to offer the first trip. It’s just not possible. But give yourself a chance to take it all in and the time to do it. You’ll want to see all the shows, meet all the characters, and get all those classic pictures! That’s where those Park Hopper tickets really come in handy! Park Hopper tickets do cost more, about $50 more, but they allow you to “hop” back and forth from either park to get the most out of your Disney experience. More than worth it!
Where to Stay
Tumblr media
If you’re looking to save money, Priceline, Trivago, and Kayak are great to compare costs! No matter where you end up staying it’s very important to consider what you would be more comfortable with when going to and from the parks. Parking at the park costs $20 each day and using a ride sharing app would probably end up costing just as much if not more pending on how close you are. My personal recommendation is to stay close. There are many hotels within blocks of the parks that are reasonably priced and it’s more than worth it to get that extra time at the parks and not spend them in the car a lot of them even offer a free shuttle to and from for those of you with kiddos. I definitely recommend staying at the Hilton Anaheim Convention Center. It was amazing being close enough to see the fireworks from our hotel window! It’s by far the nicest hotel we’ve stayed at during our Disney trips. The hotel is so clean, beautiful, and comfortable and there’s a Starbucks right in the lobby! A must!
Maximizing Your Time
Tumblr media
Definitely more to come on this topic, but here are a few very important tidbits. Download the Disneyland app. This will allow you to scan right into the park with your phone, get photos from the rides, view wait times for rides, see when characters will be available for meet and greets and where, and literally so much more. This app is a must have! Maxpass will also make your life much easier and will allow you to truly maximize your Disney experience. It costs $15 extra per ticket per day. It allows you digital access to all the photos from any ride or photographer (that’s right, all those super cute castle photos!) additionally, you can plan out all of your FASTPASSES not only as soon as they’re, but as soon as you scan your ticket into the park so you don’t have to go to the FASTPASS stations to get them.
You can purchase tickets online at https://disneyland.disney.go.com/tickets or when you get to the park. My next post will cover what you should expect for your first trip and what you shouldn’t miss out on so stay tuned!

What is the Best Way to Avoid Lines and Get the Most Out of My Disneyland Ticket
Tumblr media
Disneyland® Resort is the most popular theme park in the world, receiving over 17 million visitors per year. But, with so much to experience you don’t want to waste your time standing in line. So, after you have found your amazing online Disneyland ticket deals, try these tips to avoid the lines and get the most out of your ticket.
Buy Tickets Online
There aren’t many ways that you can skip the line at Disneyland without upgrading to FASTPASS and booking your rides before you catch them. However, you can skip the entrance queue by buying your tickets online before you visit and as a bonus you can find amazing Disneyland ticket deals online which is perfect for guests travelling on a budget.
Get an Early Start
The number one way to get the most out of your Disneyland ticket is to get an early start. Arriving approximately a quarter of an hour before the gates open mean that you can use your online tickets to speed through the entrance and arrive first in line for your favorite rides.
Park hours can vary according to the time of year and which events are running, so be sure to check the Disney mobile app or website for updated park hours before you go.
Magic Morning
For the very early risers, Magic Morning allows guests access to the park a full hour before the rest of the crowds, so you can hit more rides and see more attractions before the park even opens.
You can upgrade your ticket to include Magic Morning or for guests staying 3 or more days, Magic Morning access is included with the price of the ticket.
Park Hopper
To truly enjoy the full magical experience of Disneyland® Resort, you need that perfect combination of classic Disney nostalgia found at Disneyland park and the more modern favorites found at Disney California Adventure, and the best way to experience them all is with a park hopper ticket.
A park hopper ticket gives guests access to both parks within a single day which means you can wander back and forth between the parks as many times as you like. To really make the most of your park hopper ticket, upgrade to a park hopper with MAXPASS which lets you book your FASTPASS rides through Disney app so you can organize your rides in one park then head over to the other park when your ride time arrives.
Plan Ahead
There is so much to see and do at Disneyland® Resort that it’s a challenge to fit it all into a single visit. To make the most of your Disneyland tickets it is essential that you plan ahead and create an itinerary.
Consult a map, either on the Disney app or a printable version, and work out the route you want to take so you can catch all those iconic rides; navigating the different lands can be tricky if you don’t know the layout. Be sure to include photos with your favorite characters in your plan and don’t forget meal and snack breaks at some of Disneyland’s amazing dining venues. Finally, make sure that you stick around for the incredible light and firework display that ends each day – it’s a truly unmissable event!

“Quick, someone talk me into or out of driving to Disneyland Monday...”
:
We're always going to be on the side of "Disneyland!" :) I think you should stay a second night, but that's just my dormant maternal instincts talking. :-D
I just booked my hotel room (the Motel 6 on Disney Way). For two nights. I can work in a dazed stated of tiredness and still be more productive than most other people. And it would be safer than driving in a dazed state of tiredness.
Since I may arrive before check-in (and since there’s a good chance I can leave work maybe an hour and a half early on Monday morning since there will be another manager there, which means an extra hour and a half in the park), I’m opting for a two-day ticket. It’s an extra $85 to have the first evening in the park instead of sitting in a Motel 6 (hey, it was only $71/night + fees, so $167.42 all together for two nights and is 1.1 miles from the park so I can walk it and save the $25 parking fee).
Plus, it’s more time in the park, and I can now choose two shirts to wear in the parks instead of having to choose only one. It’s not a park hopper (there’s seriously nothing in California Adventure that is worth losing time in Disneyland for, especially when a park-hopper would cost an extra $55 on top of what I’m already spending).
This is my walk to the park:

Closer hotels on Harbor Blvd would have been at least $40 more per night, but 1.1 miles isn’t that long to hike (I may feel differently at the end of the day).
I also got MaxPass for the two days so I can book them on my phone instead of hoofing it to FastPass distribution centers, and have the ticket and the app on my phone already.
So once I factor in gas, I’m looking at about $500 (plus souvenirs and food).
I just told my parents that I’m going for sure, and they’re also glad that I’m staying for two nights. They know I’m used to not sleeping much before work, but not sleeping before an 8-hour drive is a different story. At least if I pass out at work, I just fall over, not crash into something (or someone) at 65mph.

Hope I'm doing this right. On anonymous just in case I'm not doing it right, don't wanna embarrass myself. But, ship: Royality. Prompt: Them going to a theme park (possibly Disney Land.) This is very unoriginal but to be fair I asked a friend who is barely in the fandom for help because I wanted to send at least one prompt (because you are a beautiful bean and deserve help with your resolution!) and didn't know what to send.
oh nonnie this is RIGHT up my alley!! here’s a short little sequel to believe in holiday magic! since we’re still celebrating christmas at disneyland :’) thank you so much for the prompt and the encouragement!
ship: qpr royality / word count: 531!
After Roman’s first time to Disneyland with Patton, Logan, and Virgil, he found himself suffering from what he’d seen mentioned frequently on Instagram - Post Disney Depression. He couldn’t stop going through all of Logan’s photos, wearing his rainbow ears around the house, staring fondly at the First Visit button on his cork board. He had it bad and he missed it so much. Patton’s frequent trips and their subsequent posting on Snapchat only helped so much - if anything, living vicariously through them was simultaneously exhilaratingly wonderful and heartbreakingly painful.
It was late one evening during their traditional FaceTime goodnight call that Patton suggested Roman drive out for a weekend visit. He could stay the night and they could visit Downtown Disney for some retail therapy. While Roman was a little disheartened by the idea of being so close to the parks but not actually getting to go inside, he couldn’t deny that the atmosphere alone would help immensely. Of course, Patton’s company would make it all worth it regardless. With the vague beginnings of a plan in mind, Roman put in to request a few days off of work in the next month, and started saving up a bit of extra money.
Three weeks later found Roman pulling into Patton’s driveway. Patton came bounding out of the house wearing a very pretty spaghetti strap dress and a floppy sunhat. After unpacking and a light lunch, the pair were on their way to the happiest place on Earth. With it only being his second visit, Roman followed Patton’s directions without question. To his surprise, however, instead of continuing straight through the esplanade and into the shopping and dining district, Patton steered them left.
“Dearheart, what have you got up your sleeve?” Roman asked hesitantly.
“Nothing, silly!” Patton chirped, waving their arms. “No sleeves to hide anything in!”
Roman, despite his suspicions, laughed and rolled his eyes. It turned out, though, that he absolutely should’ve have questioned Patton further. They came to a stop at the turnstiles into Disney California Adventure and without warning or preamble, Patton was shoving a ticket into Roman’s hands.
“You didn’t,” Roman gasped.
“I did! No takesies backsies!” Patton smiled brightly for the cast member as she scanned their pass. Once through the gate, Patton gestured for Roman to hurry up. “We’ve only got all weekend, sweetie!”
One of these days, Roman would be able to pay Patton back for all they did for him. Whether it was the late night reassurances of how wonderful he truly was or the four hour drives they made to see his shows, Patton had never once failed to be there for him. Similarly, Roman did whatever he could to support Patton in all their endeavors. From dealing with dysphoria to being harassed in public, Roman was always ready to drop everything and get to Patton as quickly as physically possible. The unspoken agreement that they’d go to the ends of the earth for each other felt loud and clear in this moment.
If Roman was a bit teary eyed and red in the cheeks for the photo of his two-day park-hopper pass, well, no one really needed to know.
