Understanding Prostate Cancer:
Prostate cancer is a form of cancer that develops in the prostate, a small walnut-shaped gland responsible for producing seminal fluid in men. While it is one of the most common cancers in men, the myths surrounding prostate cancer often contribute to misinformation and apprehension.
Myth: Prostate Cancer Only Affects Older Men.
Fact: While it is true that prostate cancer risk increases with age, affecting mostly men over 50, younger men can also develop this condition. It is crucial for men of all ages to stay informed about the risks and be proactive about their health.
Myth: Prostate Cancer Always Causes Symptoms.
Fact: Prostate cancer, especially in its early stages, may not exhibit noticeable symptoms. Regular screenings, including prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests and digital rectal exams (DRE), are vital for early detection.
Myth: If Prostate Cancer Runs in the Family, I Will Definitely Get It.
Fact: While a family history of prostate cancer can increase the risk, it does not guarantee its development. Many individuals with prostate cancer have no family history, and conversely, some with a family history do not develop the disease.
Myth: Prostate Cancer Treatment Always Leads to Impotence.
Fact: While some treatments for prostate cancer may have side effects like erectile dysfunction, modern advancements in treatment options, including nerve-sparing surgeries and targeted therapies, aim to minimize such issues. Open communication with healthcare providers is crucial for addressing concerns and exploring suitable options.

#Repost from the incredibly knowledgeable shark diver as well as one of my best friends, the Totally Awesome...@hex_diver @download.ins --- The one and only @jim_abernethy taking a photo with his best girl Emma the tiger shark. It’s surreal getting to witness the friendship that kind of defines Tiger Beach. Forget Romeo and Juliet, these star crossed best friends of 20+ years have proven to the world that sharks are not our enemies. I have traveled to and worked in some of the best places for sharks in the world and am honored to call a number of the OG shark dive operators my friends. However, I don’t think anyone I know has done as much as this man here to dispel the man-eating monster reputation that sharks have unfortunately been dealt. A lot of the time I just think of him as Jim, my boss and friend, but it’s truly a pleasure being able to work along side someone who has dedicated his life to teaching the world about the true nature of sharks. #lifegoals . . . . . . #starcrossed #besties #emmatigershark #selfie #jimabernethysscubaadventures #tigerbeach #sharksanctuary #bahamas #travel #explore #visitbahamas #liveaboarddiving #scubadiving #sharkdiving #pioneer #dispellingmyths #notmonsters #sharksneedlovetoo #professionalsharkdiver #showingtheworld #whatispossible #thisishowwedoit #lovemyjob #EMMA #oceanlife #sharklife #tigershark #sharks # (at Tiger Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZQZ85LtNPb/?utm_medium=tumblr

I look forward to connecting with others, #dispellingmyths, affirming some thoughts, and really just being honestly myself. Huge props to Daniel Perez for organizing this event and including me on your team. Thank you. This is an incredible practice in #opendialogue, and I'm looking forward to having my own mind opened through these conversations. I will be available at the Pfau Library, 5th floor, room 5005 from 9:30 to 11:30am tomorrow, and the event continues tomorrow and Thursday until 2pm. #Repost @its_not_schrodingers_autism (@get_repost) ・・・ Day 22 - Dispel a myth. . Lately I’ve had to really focus on where I have been lucky. This is very specific to me, many autistic people struggle with social exclusion. I don’t know how I got so lucky. At the same time, I have keenly felt the pain of not having anyone willing or able to relate to me. I’m focusing on a subset of experiences here. . #instapoem #instapoet #instapoetrygram #instapoetrycommunity #instawriter #writer #actuallyautistic #autisticwriter #autismacceptance #autisticwoman #neurodiverse #neurodiversity #communication #insa #30daysofautismacceptance #discoverunder1k #dispellingmyths
