Since you’re doing some Welsh lessons, I was wondering if you’d teach us some Welsh idioms? I have a committed love for all the different sayings in different languages so I’d love to know if there are any particular to Welsh!
Thank you!! (Diolch?!)
Tonnes! Let's see
Mae'n bwrw hen wragedd a ffyn: it's raining old ladies and sticks (it's raining cats and dogs)
Mae'n ar y gweill: it's on the (knitting) needles (It's in progress)
Mae e'n cadw draenog yn ei boced: he has a hedgehog in his pocket (he's stingy with money)
Dawnsio ar y dibyn: dancing on the cliff edge (playing with fire)
Ar bigau ddrain: on thorn tips (on tenterhooks)
Y drwg yn y caws: the bad in the cheese (the problem)
A'i wynt yn ei ddwrn: with his wind in his fist (he's out of breath)
A ddwg ŵy a ddwg fwy: he who steals an egg will steal more
Fel cynffon buwch: like a cow's tail (later than everyone else)
Angel pen ffordd, diawl pen tân: angel on the road, devil at the fireplace (two-faced)
Mi/fe rown fy mhen i'w dorri: I'll give my head for breaking (I'm absolutely certain)
Paid â chodi pais ar ôl piso: don't lift your petticoat after pissing (don't cry over spilt milk)
Deuparth gwaith ei ddechrau: Two-thirds of a job is starting it (the first step is the hardest)
Ennyn cannwyll i chwilio am haul canoldydd: to light a candle to search for the mid-day sun (a fool's errand)
Hawdd dywedyd ‘mynydd’ na myned drosto: It is easier to say ‘mountain’ than to go over it (easier said than done)
Gwyn y gwêl y frân ei chyw: The crow sees her chick as white (To have a biased opinion of someone)
And finally, my personal favourite:
Mae rhaid i mi dod nôl at fyng nghoed: I have to get back to my trees (I am mega stressed and I need to find my equilibrium.)

There is a Welsh phrase: Dod yn ôl at Fy Nghoed. Literally 'coming back to my trees', it carries shades of the English phrase 'returning to your roots' - coming back to the place (physically or metaphorically) that you came from, and returning to a more balanced state of mind.

Happy no pressure STS! How would your OCs approach the trolley problem?
For those unaware, the trolley problem is: a series of thought experiments in ethics and psychology, involving stylized ethical dilemmas of whether to sacrifice one person to save a larger number. It's usually represented as a trolley/tram/train on a track approaching a junction, and on each branch of the junction there are a number of people who would be hurt or killed by the trolley. The dilemma is whether or not to change the course of the trolley and change who would be hurt by the trolley. And of course, you can play with the specifics: how many people on track 'a' and how many people on track 'b', or someone on one of the tracks is morally 'worse' than the other track, if a person on one track is an organ donor so would actually be saving more lives with their death...etc. But essentially, the moral quandary is 'do nothing and let a lot of people die and it isn't really your fault' or 'do something and definitely kill one person by your own actions'.
Talli
Talli wants to know what a trolley is, first of all. (There used to be a tram service in Swansea, which stopped operating in 1937.) Once you explained that, she would want to know who the hell is trapping people on the lines and why. And whether they can be stopped. If you really pushed her for an answer, she would eventually reason out to hurt the fewest amount of people she could, even if she didn't like it much, because that just makes more sense, doesn't it?
Cerberus
Cerberus would need a little clarification that this is absolutely hypothetical, there isn't an actual trolley and actual people getting hurt. That it's just an ethics thought experiment. And he would hem and haw and avoid the question for as long as possible because deep down, he knows he would do nothing, close his eyes and try to tell himself there was never anything he could have done differently.
Eira
If Eira is asked, she'll simply sigh and respond: "Dychwelaf at fy nghoed." and she will fly off. No one knows if she means it literally or not. (Welsh note: There is a turn of phrase 'Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed' which is literally 'return to my trees' but figuratively means to relax/reflect and calm down - similar to how 'return to nature' in English carrying the intention of destressing and relaxing in addition to being in a natural space. Being a dove, Eira could mean either, or both.) (Additional Welsh note: I'm a rusty second language speaker, so my grammar definitely isn't perfect, please be kind about mistakes but I do welcome them being pointed out.)
Morgana
Morgana simply wouldn't care. In the grand scheme of things, they will all die eventually anyway, so why bother worrying if you hasten their deaths a little?
Myrddin
Myrddin wouldn't even think about it for a second longer than choosing the smallest amount of casualties. It's simple, ruthless logic, less death is better, end of story. The fact that he personally has the power to prevent the issue entirely wouldn't have ever crossed his mind.

Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed - To Return to My Trees
I learned a new saying today. To return to my trees is a Welsh saying that essentially means coming back into balance, and honestly, I feel like that encapsulates my whole being. Balance has always been my thing and my main philosophy in life. I believe there should be balance in all things. I personally feel like your scales should not tip too far in one direction; otherwise, you risk being off-centered and bringing your entire being into a state of chaos. This is easier said than done and isn't always going to be the case, but the phrase brings new meaning to me and makes me want to return to nature to center myself and bring myself back into a state of peace and calm, allowing me to think clearly.

FIC/ART: And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul [T+] Mer/Arthur
Title: Art/ Words: And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul. Recipient: Gilli_ann Rating: Teen Pairings: Merlin / Arthur Medium: Pastel pencils, traditional art Word Count: 5419 Content Notes/Warnings: I refer to Arthur’s canon death but it is set in the modern world where Arthur is very much alive and well Summary: dod yn ôl at fy nghoed – to return to a balanced state of mind, to return to my trees The trees seem to whisper his name. The wood surrounds his childhood home; ancient and dark and forbidding, older than the house, older than the hills… He remembers this place like and illicit friend that haunts his dreams from a bygone age before he was born, before he grew up, before he was sent away. He is only Pendragon left here now, there is no one to hold him back, and no one to push him forward. Author's / Artist Notes: Gilli_ann had so many wonderful prompts it was hard to choose but the one I went for conjured some really strong imagery, which I tried to capture. I was only going to draw but got carried away and wrote some words as well - I hope that’s ok. I’ve been a bit ‘fast and loose’ with the Arthurian legends but in my defense, they did that with the show. I’ve researched a lot on trees and woodland during this process and I hope you like what I’ve come up with and it pushes all the right buttons. A huge thank you to my beta art elf and word elves who have been amazing and such a massive help. The title quote is from John Muir and I found the Welsh quote by accident a day or so after I’d finished writing and thought it was perfect for this story. Finally many thanks to the mods for organising this wonderful winter fest. AO3 link to fanwork: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17035426

2020 March 8-14 Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed.
While the covid-19 is odd, it doesn’t scare me, there’s even a possibility that training until your immune system is low, for four years, and being around many viroids, that just taking a rest week, and eating the oranges nobody is buying, will be enough. Long post. I’m going to go to the gym to see if it’s open in a few days from now, but generally speaking, it’s time for a break.
Yesterday, two days ago, I somehow jammed my outer wrist, and it’s an injury that can cause serious af problems later on; the ball of my left foot keeps getting cramps, after getting new shoes the ankle and perhaps posture improved, but it’s another worry; and my back, obliques, traps, all in knots, so the next phase of training is just walking and stretching and reading books outside. In the fresh air, in the park, laying down in the forest and inheriting what it has to offer. Playing outdoors builds immunity, the microbes and extremophiles we share with the planet will steer our evolution, this might just be an upgrade to the next immunity level on the way to Mars, and you can get the vaccine at PHARMACY when it’s ready. If you’re not already healthy.
It was sad to see people with masks that don’t work buying things they don’t want, which is why I park across the pond at the supermarket Christmas eve and laff at them, today went to buy eggs, and panic buying had cans and tp empty, even tho like i keep telling the lefties, capitalism doesn’t stop just because the demand goes up, and they keep panicking anyway, site to store, distribution centers to home, wait in line, etc. All you’re doing is driving the price up.on yourself. I literally have libertarian prepper amounts of food, so this is rather Sodom and Gomorrah territory, and why I study the logics, the stoics, and the zenists. I do have to worry about mom’s cats, but again, capitalism isn’t stopping, i’d bet manufacturers are popping corks before the next quarter starts.
Isometrics, outdoor cardio if you’re urban, calisthenics, are perfect options if you’re still aversive. I’m going to finally do my taijiquan, walk in the mornings, stretch outside, read books, actually enjoy my tea, and meditate. Food reduction is mandatory when not exercising, your calorie intake/expenditure, caloric deficit measures. I’m going into a cut, and so you don’t have to, meditate for hours on end. Eat small, meditate on my emotions and senses, controlling my metabolism with my mind, confronting how perceptions and emotions control me and resolving my fears of social anxiety, especially now. I’ll be sure to post my cutting diets and my carb-less fever dreams of the chocolate cake from Portal 2.
My ancestors lived on muddy rivers in homes dug right into the earth, this virus isn’t exactly neighboring raiders or attackers after our knee-high mud paradise. Wuhan closed it’s last makeshift hospitals. Be logical, don’t get emotional, or get emotional in a preworkout-fuled rampage IG story and fight locals for the crown of TP mountain.
No I don’t want you to transmit, yes I want you, to look up the symptoms, and compare them to other viroid symptoms, yes you should look at the physicality of those getting it, and those who aren’t. Some of you may need perspective before causing fear. It’s been suggested to practice “social distancing” and my inner child is ROFL at the idea that I’m not already. I’ve been doing the Vulcan salute for 20 years, and now everybody tryna jack my steeze. I’m taking a week off, or more idk what the gym plans to do, and it only took a global crisis to trigger it. It’ll also allow time to see if I present any symptoms while not spreading disease. Practice hygiene and some civility will follow. LLAP

PS I’m going to post regular updates proving i’m not sick, not disproving that I’m not freaking out right before the zombie apocalypse, but just to post and inform to entertain your time, if i can figure out how to talk to the camera again, it always feels rehearsed so be kind.
