RAMBLE!
Yes I have made Jekyll and Hyde art..aha…thanks for asking…😘 but I’m not gonna post any yet. (No one asked, no one cares.)
I’ve made a lot, but I’m scared of the community for some reason. It’s like, if you haven’t read the og book than everything you gotta say or draw is like now invalid or whatever..AT LEAST ITS WHAT I THINK! I’ve watched a short video explaining the book, blah blah. I’ve only watched the movies and..musicals… so far.
Movies such as: 1920s (with John Barrymore 😍) 1931 (with Fredrick March😍) 1941 (I skipped through it, it just 1931 but with less effort) and Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971) which I actually enjoyed a lot.
My favorite adaptation of Hyde has to be the beast ones, I think they are extremely ugly, gross, and nasty looking, but for some odd reason, extremely cute. 1953, Abbott and Costello meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has my favorite Hyde beast form (s?) I like the makeup work, it’s not amazing, but it’s good enough for me to stand. I haven’t watched it sadly, there is no where I can and internet archive has failed me for the first time.
There is something about a small, fluffy, goblin that pleases me…i don’t know. Is that weird? Either way, I wonder what are other people’s favorite Hyde is. The musical is just Jekyll with his hair down and most movie adaptations are similar I guess.
If I had to say what my favorite Jekyll (Movie wise, not Musical) is, I would say Fredrick March or Ralph Bates.

Wow, yeah, the current result here is UNACCEPTABLE, so I'm adding in some more propaganda for Fredric March, who is literally one of the hottest Old-Timey Movie Men of all time.
First we have his performance in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), where he's not only one of the hottest Classic Hollywood men, but arguably THE hottest fictional mad scientist of all time. Just look at him!
Tumblr media
And honestly, I've never even found Henry Jekyll a particularly sexy character! But holy cow, March's interpretation of him is stunning. Just look at how well he combines unhinged and gorgeous here:
Tumblr media
Then we have Death Takes a Holiday, where he plays an extremely sexy personification of Death, which is honestly every goth's dream?? And despite it being an old movie, there are scenes here that are SO overtly seductive and sexy, and the movie's ending (no spoilers) is gloriously darkly romantic.

Hot damn, what can I say??
Honestly I think these two movies alone would cement March's status as sexy proto-goth Classic Hollywood icon, but not content at stopping there, this absolute mad lad also starred in what could very accurately be called Hollywood's first polyamorous rom-com, Design for Living (1933):
Tumblr media
(That is not in any sense me speaking in fannish hyperbole or false advertising here, I cannot stress enough. This movie explicitly ended with her happily going off with both of them. In 1933!!)
Anyway tl;dr Fredric March is sexy as hell, and a lot of his movies hold up fantastically and are also sexy as hell. This is just a brief overview of some of his highlights, but I highly encourage you to give him the vote he deserves, and then check out some of his excellent movies.

Propaganda
Fredric March (Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I Married a Witch)—no propaganda submitted
Lex Barker (Tarzan's Magic Fountain, The Price of Fear)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of the bracket. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage man.

Hello goth lit fandom! Long time no see... How are you?
And this is my page for the "HalloweenParty ZINE". I still feel guilty pleasure in the 1931 film adaptation🖤

I find it very interesting how designs and casting for classic literature characters have evolved from the earlier adaptations to the modern ones we see today.
A lot of that is definitely the target audience and how media has influenced how we see the characters.
However looking at actors and designs from 20th century retellings and comparing them to 2010’s tv shows, it just.
idk i feel like its kinda silly and fascinating to see how distanced we’ve come from the original text but not necessarily in a bad way
I mean just look:

A Christmas Carol's Ebenezer Scrooge (2009, 2022)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edward Hyde (1931, 2015)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sherlock Holmes (1939, 2022)
like idek dude
I guess we decided they needed to drink the yassification juice after a couple of decades and i kinda love it yet at the same time question mark ???
edit: also someone mentioned that TGS isn't a show and i sincerely apologize for not putting that in here my brain was lagging bad but i meant to refer to different types of media and it ended up looking out of place ;-;
anyways i just hope yall get my point lmao
