I wouldn’t be where I am today without drag performers. ❤️ Drag is a performance art, it is artistic expression and interpretation. It is far beyond what any bill or law can describe. And for a lot of mutuals it is more than a simple hobby or side hustle, it pays their bills and feeds their families. Drag artists are some of the nicest, most supportive people I’ve ever come across in my many years of dance, performance art, and cosplay. They have always been quick to lend a hand, makeup, advice, and even opportunities when others around have turned me away. Inevitably there’s drama, but damn if they don’t still band together and support each other through hard times regardless. I owe where I am now to countless drag artists in the Memphis community. To all my friends hurting right now— don’t give up. You are valid and so is your art. We will find a way through this, whether it be resistance, loopholes, or bricks. I love you all, I stand with you, and you will not be silenced. 🫂 And for those of you that think this doesn’t affect you, it does. Burlesque, dancers, and even cosplayers, this stupid vague ass law can affect you too. Do not let them outlaw ART.
