Introducing... Dragonsoul!

Forgot to post this yesterday, but yeah, I'm finally officially unvieling the title of my upcoming How to Train Your Dragon fic! Along with some conceptual ramblings I jotted down mostly for my own reference, but I'll go ahead and share some of it with ya'll for funsies. It's kind of a mess at this point, but what fic isn't in its early planning stages? Soooo let's dive in!

There's more of course, including an actual timeline of events I'm still working out, but I think that's enough for now. Feel free to hit up my inbox if you're interested in knowing more!

“What’s all that noise in the background?” Asked Stardust. “Are you back in Hell again?” “Worse,” Mephistopheles replied. “I’m in New Jersey!”

Stardust almost dropped the phone in astonishment. “What on earth are you doing in New Jersey!?” He demanded. “I’m not here by choice!” Protested Mephistopheles. “Some hooligan summoned me via song lyrics and sold his soul for a cookie.”

There was a brief silence and then Stardust asked: “What?” “Ja, that was my reaction too.” Mephistopheles cringed. “He was adamant about it. Signed away his mortal soul for a weed cookie. You can’t make this sugar up even if you tried.”

“Did it not occur to you that the man was probably stoned off his gourd and wasn’t of sound mind when he sealed the deal?” Stardust groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. “Even if it did, I don’t give a fig roll.” Mephistopheles smirked. “As I’m sure you’re aware, Lucifer takes the no refunds policy on soul transactions very seriously.”

“I cannot believe this is an actual conversation we’re having.” Stardust muttered. “Me neither,” the demon laughed. “Anywho, I think I should get out of the state. It’s not doing anything to counteract my cynical misanthropy. Auf wiedersehen!” And with that, he hung up and left Stardust feeling absolutely baffled.

For a book that I hope someday to write (when I'm done with the one I'm still reworking.) This was inspired by the original credits sequence for Fullmetal Alchemist (the 2003 anime) and the song Kesenai Tsumi. It's also an A3 drawing that I've been working on since June, on and off. The paper has smudged horribly and I've doctored it a bit to enhance my creative intent for it. But it's still 99% traditional.

DragonSouls - Draft (Final Fantasy XIV)

Once again, a shot that sort of breaks the rules I usually hold myself to for UnGeo, as it involves rather a hefty amount of out-of-game post-processing. But I'm very happy with this, so am making one more exception.

This image is a logo for DragonSouls, my FFXIV Free Company -- basically a guild, for those who don't play XIV and don't know the term -- done in the style of an FFXIV expansion's logo. This is only a draft; I only had a few people participating in this first one, but I've got more participants now, and as soon as I have the last couple, I'll be making a logo with a much larger "cast" portion. Which I will also probably share here when it's done.

Now, aside from breaking my own UnGeo rules, I'm fairly sure this also breaks the FFXIV typography rules that would apply for a real log; so far as I can tell, Jupiter alternates are only used for the first letter of a word, and never in a logo -- save for A Realm Reborn -- with the exception of the alternate A, which is the only A ever used. Anywhere. At all.

But this logo looked better with the R and N alternates, and it's not like I'm part of the Square-Enix marketing or graphics design department so I'm not really beholden to those rules.

“No, I met up with an old friend and got seriously sidetracked.” Mephistopheles explained. “You might have heard of him; does the name Jersey Devil ring any bells?” Stardust facepalmed. “How many other forces of evil are you in cahoots with?” He asked. “Also, is that legitimately his name? Does his birth certificate read Jersey Devil?”

“As a matter of fact, it does,” Mephistopheles chuckled. “I literally only meant to stop by for an hour, but old JD managed to whip up some wonderful pork rolls and the rest is history.” “So you two basically embarked on a culinary sidequest?” “Exactly!” Mephisto beamed. Stardust raised his eyes to the heavens. “The funny thing is,” he admitted. “I probably would have done the same.”
