Dreamcrusher - In Due Time 2023
Luwayne Glass, better known as Dreamcrusher, is a Brooklyn-based noise musician from Wichita, Kansas. Glass began making what they describe as "nihilist queer revolt musik" as a teenager sharing tracks on Myspace. After years of touring and over twenty independent releases, Glass moved to New York City in 2015. The same year, Fire Talk Records released Glass's Hackers All of Them Hackers under the Dreamcrusher name to broad acclaim: the release was included in Impose's Best Albums of 2015 and SPIN's Best Avant Albums of 2015, with VICE writing that the EP "could be the most important noise record of the year".
Dreamcrusher is known for a live performance style that is interactive, high-engagement, and multi-sensorial, with FLOOD magazine describing their live show as "a full-on, full-body sensory experience". Those praising Dreamcrusher's live performances often acknowledge that this combination - of high volume, unpredictable movement, and even flicker vertigo - can be jarring, producing feelings of disorientation and vulnerability.
"In Due Time" received a total of 29% yes votes.

I spent last week in Amsterdam with a friend. I spent most of my time high since it’s been a couple of months since I smoked and I won’t be able to smoke again for a couple more months. On Monday night I went to a coffeehouse by myself to smoke and journal. I wanted to contemplate the eclipse season but I ended up jotting notes for a story I want to work on. I’m almost finished with this journal so I also looked back at some of my old pages. Reading those old pages felt the closest to what it would be like to perceive myself as an outsider. This carried on into my trip later in the week where I spent most of it thinking of how much of the way I perceive myself feels digitized as if I’m always presenting myself within the confinement of an Instagram page or Tinder profile. I didn’t come to any solid conclusions while tripping, but maybe next time.
After I smoked I walked around the city, becoming a bit of a flaneur. I was really fucking high and watching the orange light of the canal I jotted down in my journal “I think I’m seeing now how the impressionist saw the world.” I wouldn’t be all too surprised if they were all stoners. That night I was meeting up with friends at a jazz cafe and I found my mind wandering back to Baldwin. I like the way that jazz music meanders, it’s a lot like the experience of idling through a city. There is chaos to it, but always in the same tone. Watching the performance I thought of passion, and the night remains in my mind like ecstasy.
Later that week I went with a friend to see DREAMCRUSHER. That was about rage. It was the night of the eclipse and their music sounded like a descent or passage. The nine circles of hell came to mind first, and then Lazarus. I grew up catholic, and although I am not anymore there are still elements of the theology I find myself drawn to, and the story of Lazarus is one of them. Although in the story Lazarus lies dead for three days, I’ve always thought that Lazarus spent three days between life and death. I was interested in this point of contemplation, and DREAMCRUSHER sounded like that in between. And maybe this is an aspect of the enraged experience I often have the fear of eminent death when I get on a subway in NYC or walk alone at night, or just looking over a ledge or choking for air underwater. A descent, an encounter, a passage. I think I left a lot behind me that night.
