(In this case the ankle armor and toes made from exo force robot arms) A super simple resin conversion from the mg dual gundam that I would recommend for any beginner that wants to get ur hands dirty🥺

MG 1/100 GAT-X102 Duel Gundam Assault Shroud

It's been a hot minute since I've put a model kit together (the last one was, funnily enough, the HGCE Duel Blitz Gundam), but I finally finished putting this together. The Duel Gundam took a few weeks, including cutting the parts from the sprues and painting the sections I wanted to paint.

Originally, I had wanted to do a full paint of the kit, but a combination of a long bout of illness and eagerness to put the kit together made me decide to deal with it the same way I did my previous Master Grade model - painting in mechanical details with metallic paints and grey (in this case, 70% H22 Grey and 30% H2 Black), then weathering with Tamiya Weathering Palettes C and F, along with dry brushing H28 Metal Black and H2 Silver.

While I expected the kit to have dry transfer decals (which were a fun experience to do, even if there was a bit of a learning curve), what I did not expect was that the Duel Gundam didn't come with any water slide decals, and instead came with a second non-foil sticker sheet. Since I didn't like some of the goofier SEED-style decals/stickers that came with the kit, I bought a sheet of grey and white generic water slides for the project (along with future model kit projects) and it turned out very well. It even adheres better than the decals from Bandai kits in a faster time.

The Duel Gundam also comes with the Assault Shroud armour (as it should) and although I enjoyed the additional detail added to the armour (including not having to remove the Duel Gundam's cuffs to add the Assault Shroud's cuffs), the bulk of the armour really cuts into the poseability of the kit, including cutting off the already limited waist articulation and hampering shoulder mobility. Due to how the front waist skirt attaches to the Duel Gundam's skirt as well, the Assault Shroud's front waist can pop off if you so much as look at it wrong. (Also the chest section of the Assault Shroud has a very thin section where the lower chest hatch attaches at a joint and it can just snap in half without warning soooooooo it's fine but it means there's not much holding power on the chest hatch joint)

Robot Spirits Duel Gundam Ver. Anime

With so many outstanding MS designs in Gundam Seed,I feel like It’s easy to overlook the Duel Gundam. I love this very straight forward and melee focused suit so much. The design is solid, the color scheme is SO good, and it’s totally believable that this is the early blueprint for all the other Gatx machines that followed it.

This Robot Spirits Ver. Anime really gives me all I could ask for in a Duel Gundam figure. (And more) Great range of motion, extra weapons, and really cool effect parts make me eager to check out what the other Seed Robot Spirits figures have to offer. Bandai is about to put my wallet in the emergency room hehehe 😅

So basically your Duel Assaulshroud is equivalent to a UC era Full Armour Gundam?

The Duel was made by Naturals, so they probably designed it to be similar to that.

These older Seed MG’s are closer to a HG build than a modern day MG, which makes sense when you say it out loud of course but you really feel it in these kits. They build up fast, minimal panel lines and polycaps. Oh the polycaps. They won’t age well but for now they’re sturdy!

The Assault Shroud in this holds on surprisingly well EXCEPT! The front waist armor. This basicallly slides into two slots on the base front skirt armor. The issue with this that both skirts move independently so it Does Not stay on. So I cemented mine in lol probably would have been better if it attached to the crotch armor instead but oh well. If you want to modify the part to keep it removable maybe make the attach point there.

It also comes with Dry Transfer decals aside from the sticker kind. Which would be great but since you should Really topcoat the part after applying the decal I have to pass bc 1) the pollen rn is WILD and 2) I don’t really have a good space inside to let it dry and fume at the same time soo….later!

All in all a fun build! If you’re like me and like a solid MG that’s a quick build then you’ll enjoy this one a lot!

HGCE 1/144 Duel Blitz Gundam

A weekend build I decided to do before my Annual Military Obligation; decided this model needed a spot of paint because many of the thruster sections were molded in one piece and needed the colour separation.

The grey used was according to the instructions (70% H22 Gray + 30 H2 Black), and the orange sections was according to the MG 1/100 Duel Gundam Assault Shroud (65% H24 Orange Yellow + 35% H1 White + Small Dose/a few drops H14 Orange). I must have fouled up my paint to thinner ratios for the orange because the coverage was quite weak on the first coats, even on the orange parts I primed to cover the plastic colour (You can see on several sections that the brushs strokes are visible).

Since this model came with a pretty nice clear green part for the eyes and crest sensors, I decided on doing a 0 sticker build; covering parts of the eye sections with H2 Black to replicate the sticker effect, and painting in the weapon sensor sections with 70% Metallic Green + 30% Gold.

Weathering was similar with my previous HG build, with the remaining grey paint on the body and a drybrush of H8 Silver. I tried doing the sponge "paint chipping" effect for the grey weathering, but I've got a ways to go before I master the technique.
