#EA Build Restrictions Challenge

i think im gonna do a challenge for the sims 4??? bc i lost all my save files and need excuse/motivation to rebuild. so i think im gonna build a house but restrict which packs i can use. like base game + city living only kind of thing. if a pack isnt capable of building a house (ex: spa day, dine out) ill build something relating to it.

under the cut is a tracker thing im doing. all challenges will also have access to base game content in case the pack doesnt have a certain object (ea why do you release packs without toilets). discover university, for rent, tiny living, and city living will be the only ones with additional/modified challenges.

i spent a lot of my weekend playing sims 3 and mannn i forgot how much i loved that game, but it also makes me miss the sims 4 like crazy

rambling thoughts below (also if you played s3 what do you miss or not miss about it???)

sims 4 just does a much better job with relationships and dynamics between sims, which makes it such a good platform for storytelling and i miss that because all my sims 3 sims’ relationships just seem so flat

but there’s something about sims 3 that just makes it so playable. the open world truly was so nice, i love not having loading screens anytime i leave the lot and being able to toggle between sims as they go about their day - i miss it so much in sims 4

also the autonomy in sims 3 just seems so much better, when i leave my sims to their devices they always seem to want to clean up or play with the dog, but in s4 it’s play video games or drink water and leave dirty cups around, plus they spend so much more time actually doing things instead of standing around (maybe this is just because i didn’t excessively mod my game fro s3 but still)

and the wants in s3 are so much better than whims in s4, something about the way they’re displayed just makes me actually want to complete them, and i love that lifetime aspirations show up as wants for kids and teens

other things from s3 i missed:

- pets are more doable- in s4 they’re always running away from neglect because my sims don’t interact with them unless i make them

- separation between worlds- i wish you could travel to other worlds for vacation like you can the ones from world adventures, but i like that your world is contained in s3, everyone at the school lives in your world, everyone at your job lives in your world, you can maintain relationships with people from other worlds but they’re not showing up at your door every day (esp. in the context of a decades challenge, if your sims immigrate from europe to america you won’t be seeing your european auntie walking down the street in your neighborhood)

-color wheel - oh my god, i had almost forgotten, this genuinely was a heartbreaker when s4 came out, there was so much variability in cas and build in s3, even with limited clothing options you could create unique looks for your sims with different patterns and textures and you weren’t restricted to the awful ea options

-clothes- something about the s3 basegame clothing option, it’s just very workable and versatile, maybe i think this because trends have come full circle, but a few years ago when i jumped into s3 again i remember being so tickled with the outfit options

-teens- there’s something about s3 teens that just makes them better, maybe because they made them look like teens by making them shorter instead of just scrawny, but with generations teens just feel more fully fleshed out than in s4 (i don’t have growing together or high school years so ig that’s on me, but also i can’t afford both of those packs)

-packs- something that has really been grinding my gears for the almost TEN YEARS since s4 came out is how much extra content you have to purchase, for s3 if you wanted game content, for the most part you got it through expansion packs, but s4 is just excessive with expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, kits, etc. there’s just so many features that you want in your game, but it costs a small fortune to get them all because they’re distributed across packs that cost up to $40

-PRICE- i have so many nostalgic memories of saving up my $20 to go to target and buy a new expansion pack for s3, then the joy i felt when it was on sale, every s3 expansion was, and still is, $20 but for s4 they’re twice that, the only time i can ever justify purchasing anymore is when they’re on sale

- rabbitholes- it seems like for s4 they did away with a lot of rabbitholes, just not work and school (except with packs), it was nice being able to send my sims to the movies or the bistro for a date night and not have to be following them the whole time, making them interact

- ownership- maybe it’s just me but i miss physically having the boxes the games came in and putting the disk into the computer and having the little icon for every pack on my desktop, i don’t like how everything’s through origin or the ea app now, esp. because for whatever reason s3 university got uninstalled on my moms pc and ea wanted me to buy it and when i used the code from the box it said it had already been applied (i only have the one account i have no clue why tf they took university from me) and if i didn’t have the disk i wouldn’t have been able to reinstall

- i also miss little things, like ordering pizza and seeing my sims drive around and catching birds in the wild and holiday festivals

what’s your favorite sims death? I'm gonna go with disease. I like that horribly hilarious coughing and how it spreads to everyone. Fire and hunger are good too, but one is too noisy and destructive and the other one just takes too bloody long :D

Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Maxis Match, though I wouldn't say I'm a purist.

Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? No. Why would I? If anything I wish there was more body diversity in the game (ts2) as even the 'fat' state looks pretty slim to me.

Do you use move objects? Yes, every time lol.

Favorite mod? ACR - I use this tweaked version by @episims and am very happy with it although it torments me to no end as my sims will not behave

First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? It was The Sims: House Party. I think I was eight. I returned it because I learned that I needed the base game to run it, and my allowance couldn't get me both. But I was able to exchange it for The Sims: Deluxe Edition which was awesome.

Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? Live as in give, mostly

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? It's a toss-up between Marama Tuatahi and Maitea Lehenik for me, they had so much character. If I have to choose one I'll go with Maitea because I loved playing her as a hot widow that all the men in town heart-farted over, and her particular style was unique in my little world so far.

Have you made a simself? Yeah, probably a dozen times, in recent memory mostly to test the ts3 and ts4 sim creators. My first sim-self I made as a 13-year old. I made myself as a teenager, my younger sibling as a child and our parents, and I picked romance aspiration for myself, not knowing then what that meant as far as gameplay was concerned. I grew up to marry Darren Dreamer and had an identity crisis when I got a bad memory out of it.

What sims traits do you give yourself? Brooding, Couch potato, Shy, Vegetarian, Frugal

Which is your favorite EA hair color? Uh... Red? Are we talking ts4 colors because I don't mess with that

Favorite EA hair? The store hair that's like a bowl cut

Favorite life stage? Teenagers :D all the drama, none of the boring responsibilities

Are you a builder or are you in it for the game play? In it for the gameplay. I like building but it's always with play in mind :)

Are you a CC creator? No(t yet)

Do you have any simblr friends/a sims squad? No, I don't really know what a sims squad is. I have a friend I used to play sims with, but no one I know irl knows my simblr and I like that.

What’s your favorite game (1,2,3,4)? sims 2 for definite. I've dabbled in ts3 and have a grudging respect for it, 4 not so much, and 2 definitely feels like an upgrade from 1 to me.

Do you have any sims merch? No.

Do you have a youtube for sims? No.

How has your “sims style” changed throughout your years of playing? At first, starting at Christmas 2004, I only wanted to play Veronaville because it was pretty. I later played some in Pleasantview to make my sim self and realize I'm not really a romance sim. Then I would build random half-decent custom worlds for years, gradually discovering cc and sims blogs, and through the latter get inspired to play the premades exclusively for yet more years, experimenting with megahoods and uberhoods. And now I'm all about the test of time challenge, and we'll see how long I'll be able to stick with it.

Who’s your favorite cc creator? @sunmoon-starfactory, all their sets are what's keeping this very restrictive challenge stage the most fun rn

How long have you had a simblr? I started this one in June last year, so a little over a year, but then it took me about six months to actually start posting so lets call it even and say 9 months :P

How do you edit your pictures? Just cropping mostly. I'm dabbling in light exposure because some of my screenshots get hella dark

What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? You know, I just wish they'd kept making expansions for The Sims Medieval. Like you could have a variety pack where you could choose a different map layout, different styles for the different buildings (yes EA, with different facades and floorplans too!) maybe an expansion that let you actually go to The Village and like Tredony and stuff on diplomatic or trade missions and actually see different people and different worlds

Hello and welcome to the EA Build Restrictions Challenge!

We all know that EA has some mysterious restrictions that they’ve placed on the team that builds the houses they ship with the Sims. And while they’ve been reluctant to share their rules, they HAVE given us nearly 100 lots that follow those restrictions. 

THEREFORE, by counting items and types-of-items used, we can guess with a fair degree of accuracy what the rules are! And lucky for you, I’ve done the counting!

You can find my spreadsheet of item types, lots, and prices here. 

With this data, you can get as granular as you want with the rules, but frankly, this challenge is tough as nails so I’d recommend going broader first.

And, just to get started, I’ve typed up some basic starter challenges. For the sake of these challenges, “items” implies anything that is placed individually. This includes windows, doors, and columns, as well as landscaping and all furnishing. The prices do not include the lot.

EDIT 2024: This lot was recently updated; it may have some differences in-game compared to the previews.

I already built a lot for this location, called Solitaire, but I really needed a new starter house for my save (I only had two!). 

As you can see, this house is in desperate need of renovation, and would be perfect for a fixer upper challenge! I don't know if I'm going to play here, but if I do, to make it more challenging, I'm going to make my sims pay each time I remove a crack or hole in the wall (and there are many!).

Or you can simply renovate it in buy/build mode without money restriction!

Must be following at least 1 of the Streamers/Judges to be eligible. Please include your Twitch Username somewhere in the description when you upload your build, if there isn’t a Twitch Username and we can’t figure out who it is, you will be automatically disqualified. Judges are allowed to participate and show their own build, but their build will not be entered into the competition.  If the judge does not stream, they may choose which streamer they would like to show their build. Tours: Tours will take place across PacificCreative, NicholeMakes and ItsQuivHey’s Twitch streams. The list of entrants and the tour dates will be released before judging begins.  Each streamer will tour a specific amount of entrants, ensuring all tours can be done in a timely manner and allowing PacificCreative, NicholeMakes and ItsQuivHey to participate in tours. Judging: Judging will be based on if the rules of the challenge were met (all furniture items included, no changes to walls/doors/windows, wtc.).  For each missing or altered element, half a point will be deducted.  Space will be judged on a ranged scale from low to high. High being the best and low being the worst. Each judge will have a personal vote.  All votes (including chats) will be averaged together for the total overall score of the build.  In the event of a tie, chat will vote to decide the winner of the tie.  A bracket system will be randomly generated for participants.  If there are more than 24 participants, the participants will be chosen at random.  Season Winner Prizes:

1st Place - Gifted Sub to a judges channel of their choice, choose theme of next season's challenge, for episode 1.

2nd Place - Gifted Sub to a judges channel of their choice,Choose 1 item that has to be included in the next challenge for episode 1. 3rd Place - VIP in all judges Channels (pending room) for 1 month *** Prizes subject to change every season*** At the end of a season, the top three entrants will automatically advance to next season (if they choose to participate).  If there is limited space and you did not win last season, you have to sit out the following season if there are more than 20 participants.

Hot sim summer sims challenge!

Hello and welcome to my brand new blog! The idea for this challenge came to me in Malixa’s stream and she and the chat helped me come up with the goals for this challenge so make sure to follow Malixa (here’s her cc finds tmblr! @malixacc ) 

On to the challenge! 

Starting out

After a gruesome winter full of hard work and nights gone with just the candle light, you decide to get ready for the summer of your life! Our journey begins in spring, where you prepare yourself for a hot sim summer for the books.

  If you have seasons I highly recommend setting each season to last up to 2 weeks (14 days) for the goals to be met in a way that won’t stress you out! You can also stretch this time more if you’d like

Creating your sim 

There is no restriction when you create your sim, you can pick out any traits and aspirations. Aspirations will come to play more in the summer portion of the challenge so you can choose anything you like in the beginning. Likes and dislikes can also be tailored to your liking! Story mode sims are not forbidden but it could give you an unfair advantage so it is slightly discouraged.

Basics 

- Once you leave cas you need to move your sim to a lot. You may choose a pre-built starter home or build yourself a new one. No restrictions on the worlds

- Moneycheats aren’t allowed after you’ve built your house, if you chose to build it yourself. remember, it still needs to be within a started house budget. 

- Mods and cc are very much allowed! 

- no skill or aspiration cheats !  

- you can use these rules and goals as a guideline and adjust them to your liking

Spring

In order for your summer to start, you must complete these goals (all aren’t required, this challenge can be catered to your liking!)

- Get your sim a job and try to get promoted a minimum of 3 times within 2 weeks 

- Raise 10 000 simoleons before summer starts. You are allowed to do other things aside from your job to collect this money (ea. painting, writing, scavenging..) This money is to pay for your summer excapades

- get one or more of these skills as high as you can (min. level 6 ) Charisma, Wellness, Fitness, Mixology and Comedy 

- Have your sim drink water each day and practice self care (there are some good mods for this, but you don’t have to get them)

- take a vacation! place a rental lot or go to an existing one for however long you want. This is what we saved up for! 

- Dabble in photography! try to level it up, this is a secondary goal and not as important

- if you own island living make sure to hit the Sulani beaches and grab a tan! remember you sunscreen ;) maybe woo a mermaid..

- Upgrade your home to have its own pool! (kiddie pools count, right?) 

- If you have get famous try to befriend a celebrity. 

- during summer if you get invited to go to places, go every time. (or not, if it’s a batuu thing...) 

- Have fun and create your own storylines, woohoo with many sims or try to become the most famous impromptu street singer in town. It’s your hot sim summer and you get to decide!

You can also play this in the middle of your own saves and don’t need to make a whole new household for it, again, you can really tailor this challenge to your own needs.

I posted back in February about starting my 100 Baby Challenge with Hana’s daughter and then it sort of drifted off as I started building the world and getting my Super Sim Challenge to a place where these can start to overlap.

Well, guess what, now is the time! It’s starting! Meet Presley Little, Hana’s eldest daughter with Father Winter, a vampire and Hana's mini-me. I want to fill my game with everyone’s genetics for maximum fun and even more diversity! That being said, I do not play with a ton of CC in my game, even when it comes to occults.

Only EA occults please! I don’t use any mods and want real powers in my game, so at this time I am only accepting: EA Aliens, Vampires, Mermaids, and PlantSims!

I don’t use a lot of CC but when I play with occults in game, I do use CC heavily from these sets: Intergalactic , Interstellar , Stuck On You , Jupiter Island , Gun Show , Demon Days , Of The Earth

I am open to other sets of CC, just keep it maxis match and preferably not too cc heavy. I love ears and they are always welcome!

A Sim can have no dietary restrictions, or they can be a Pescetarian, Vegetarian, or Vegan. Additionally, they can have an allergy to dairy, seafood, nuts, and/or gluten. Finally, they may be health conscious or a junk food junkie. I will use this dietary profile to determine what types of meals they make at home or order from bars and restaurants.
