Depends heavily on what they're rping. Some people utilize this excuse to do heinous things such as underage erp (of which we've at least gotten three asks of people trying to defend this).
Granted, this isn't always the case. Most people arn't doing this kind of rp and really do just wanna be left alone doing their unproblematic shit.

Told my therapist I'd be interested in ERP for OCD and felt very ambivalent in the saying that because like. My neuroses wrt morality are ultimately downstream of being ostracized for a willingness to question things and a horror at the cruelities that are obfuscated and normalized, right. And submitting myself to psychiatry to become more "Functional" and "Healthy" about it requires a trust that the goal of the practitioner isn't something ideologically abhorrent, right.
But after reading this (archive link) + another person's thoughts on how the moralization of hygiene & especially sexual hygiene has a class character that I don't feel would be appropriate to share here publicly but Just Trust Me it was very thorough and elucidating (whereas my summary probably has you like, Well, Duh.)
I can't help but wonder if a path forward with that that would be less fraught and like, perhaps already has resources, is getting involved in irl scat communities? Cautiously optimistic about this idea.
& perhaps I shouldn't be too hard on myself for being cautiously optimistic about my therapist and dietician because I do think I can trust I now have the cognitive wherewithal to assess whether responses to my articulations of idealogy are mere platitudes with the intent to later undermine me. It's just. Terrifying to be aware of one's own [previous] deficits in self-awareness and I don't know if the self-doubt can ever meaningfully end. But is it even useful to say it's My Fault that after all the times I've been abused through psychiatry that I continue to try to get utility out of it?
Who knows. But certainly doesn't help the argument that I'd use similar in the event I were to be domestically abused again for the seeking an intimacy I desperately need While Disabled. (Don't I understand what a risk factor that is? What is wrong with me to want anything?)
& in any case my seeking therapy again is two-pronged in that I needed a safeguard against my doctor (who I don't trust) from psychiatrizing me & dismissing my health concerns (because now I (hopefully) can elide talking about certain things with a "well the root of that isn't really in your purview and I am working on it with my therapist") and wow huh. Actually articulating it like that uhhh perhaps I should get a new doctor? Anyway.
And, second prong, watching this channel that renewed hope that I can get help from therapy

You can see how Dr. Mike Lloyd isn't some paragon of materialist thought, but he is respectful and acknowledges when he's wrong. Pretty low fucking bar right? But his compassion and willingness to go against more alienating and stigmatizing viewpoints + his accumulated knowledge on dissociation is sorely needed for people who "are autistic" and "have DID." That describes me!
So like, perhaps cynically phrased, I'm at a juncture in my life which requires me to pay into a system that surveils and polices me for the opportunity to speak to people with knowledge of my issues + willingness/ability to be patient in helping me with them. Or...it doesn't require that of me, I could be making other choices, but given what is available & known to me I've found it in my best interest to admit the risks of psychiatric violence into my life. Yeah.
