totsukuni no shoujo worked really well for me from every point like the creature designs are very interesting the pacing gives u a reason to care about the charas bonds without getting bored with it it handles its themes well & i love that the strongest bond isnt a romantic type of love and its still undeniably one of the most important aspects that makes the story work. its got its twists & i never saw them coming yet none of it felt like it was only for shock value. definitely recommend.

man. just. the lengths they went for each other. teacher doing anything to keep her safe when the whole time there was nothing to keep her safe from. he cant save her from herself. but that he wouldve killed for her, the fact he literally gave his soul for her, gave up the last of what he had. man it really hits. and then that shiva came back and cared got him to return to himself. like it goes both ways. and yet. the whole time there was nothing to protect.

but also the whole. shiva and the kuro no ko are the same. that whole underwater scene. idk. im sleepy i cant say it well but. that like. even if shiva isnt actually the real thing, she exists somwhere inside that kuro no ko(i read in jpn im so sorry idk what eng term is used for it & im not using a literal translation) so in a way. shes still there. theyre the same. but also not. the whole idea of there being truth in falsehoods.

bc im going to be honest with u i thought the twist was going to be like. shiva was actually teacher's kid the whole time & when something happened to his wife she ended up with a random lady so the whole thing about her not actually being related wouldnt have been a lie. then idk i was expecting a reveal like yeah since he was such a good doctor it was proof of his relation to the gods they keep mentioning. and then they hit me with the twist they did & im still like What. but in a good way. from a plot perspective it's interesting i like it but as a reader god. pain.

& i think it handles the whole "one cannot exist without the other" theme pretty well. teachers whole existence as a way of saying not everything ur told is bad is actually bad & the fact most of the creatures seem to be pretty neutral. its true they can spread the curse but that in itself doesnt really make them bad. meanwhile the whole kingdom willing to sacrifice a child for a chance at being saved from something they dont really even understand. neither are true good or bad yet portrayed as dark and light. that theres no clear answer so to speak but the two cant truly be separated.

i feel like this is definitely one of those medias thats going to stay on my mind for a while

to be honest i haven't developed tove and sistine's relationship as much as i want to yet, but i can tell you some things about her! she's meant to mirror sistine's backstory (a beast turned human), but sorta in reverse; years and years ago she was just a little girl whose village was demolished in a raid by hysterian soldiers, and after escaping to the forest, she trades her humanity to a fae in exchange for a new life. she's transformed into a bear, and some years later, sistine finds her (also quite young at the time.) sistine has no memory of her own past life (yet), or any knowledge of what's happened to tove. all she can see is a very, very friendly bear. she finds out about it all MUCH later, when the two join ambrose on the story's main quest, and he's able to sense that tove is a creature of magic. it's quite a sad backstory but sistine is a very complicated character and it's part of her redemption arc to see just how much her kingdom (hysteria) wreaks havoc on the world, even and especially on the lives of those she loves, despite the fact that she was raised blind to it.

as for ambrose i'm not sure how much francis wants me to delve into him on my blog.. maybe if everyone is lucky i'll get it to talk about him itself :) but yes ambrose, is a wizard... sistines enemies-to-lovers situation eventually... kinda like if mothman was a transfem lesbian

They both come from the same orphanage, Aerith's mom died by natural causes (since there's no shinra) and Lucretia and Hojo... You decide, a lot can be done there. Anyway, they were... Kind of childhood friends/acquaintances; Aerith was younger, but she thought seph was very pretty and insisted on talking with her. Seph thought she was sweet, and indulged her sometimes, and did come to care for her in some way. Then Aerith is adopted by Elmyra, and that's that. Seph is adopted later, and they see each other again at the school that they end up going to years later. Seph initially tries to feel glad that Aerith was adopted and being cared for, though she did feel a level of jealousy. Over the years that jealousy grows, and the more she sees her have so many more friends than her, and a caring mother and a life that she so desperately wants, it grows into resentment. Especially since they come from the same background. (What's so different abt her that she gets to have everything and I get nothing?) it culminates, ofc, in her rejecting humanity in favor of a divine calling, not realizing the warmth and love that she seeks come from the very same humanity that she's disparaging.

Bonus, Aerith tries to be friends with Seph again, starting conversations and searching for her when she tries to hide, but seph reads Aerith's actions as pity or mockery. And/or seph can't let go of her jealousy and talking with her is just a reminder of how effortlessly charismatic and friendly she is, and she hates it

I LOVE THIS IDEA SO MUCH............. aerith and seph coming from the same origins is so crucial to my enjoyment of ff7 and i think making them grow up in the same orphanage is. bites glass. anyways.

i like the idea of maybe the catholic school and the orphanage being connected (maybe through the same wealthy family that has connections 2 both) and so seph grows up and is an exemplary student since she was young and is adopted/sponsored by the family as like. a PR move lowkey. (maybe by hojo, maybe by the shinra fam) but in reality she's treated more like a coworker or side show by everyone around her but she gets the prestige of being a "child prodigy" and "shinra's pride and joy" so she's like a lowkey celeb in the student body but also idk maybe they make her attend outside events like galas and stuff and preach about how shinra has been soooo good to her and her future she owes to the company and family

this vs aerith finding a genuinely loving home outside of the orphanage and escaping it (YELLING) and coming back i love the idea of. like. her symbolizing freedom/hope/love to seph and making her SO MAD AND JEALOUS because what did she work so hard for. she worked so hard to get to the top and escape the shit situation they were in and now she discovers that aerith, without doing anything, achieved the life she thought was forbidden from them (BECAUSE LOVE SHOULD NOT BE EARNED) and has her worldview shattered from this. (the notion that the orphanage is inescapable and that hard work will earn her salvation from this life)

ANHWAHS i think she shrugs this all off w the divine mission thing (HEALTHY THING TO DO) and also i love the idea that higher purpose is the only thing that seph knows how to live for as somebody deprived of autonomy and raised as a human weapon (in canon). aer/seph making me UOOOUGHGH (im craaazzy im insanee gif)

Hi! No there isn't any masterpost yet since this AU is really hard to make as I am having troubles making the lore and scenario. It is aaaaa work in progress! (so many rewrites. Help me.) I could give you the premise: Sunny comes back to Faraway Town after four years of isolation in the city. His father tries to mend their relationship but Sunny doesn't seem like he wants to talk to him. So yeah, that's awkward. The first night he spends at his childhood home, he finds a strange book on his bedside table. He vaguely remembers him and Basil playing with it as kids; going to their local forest to "investigate the secrets of Faraway Town". But as soon as he opens it, something strange happens -> drawn introduction This AU follows two POVs: Sunny's (with Kel, Aubrey and friends) and Basil's (with a strange one-eyed creature and other entities). The forest is basically Headspace in that AU, although right now I am trying to change its content to make it more Gravity Falls urifhojdp ♦ Here are the sprites I've made for the gang ♦ Here are their designs The more I think of this AU, the more I envision it being a video game (well, if I ever make it a reality, it will be a "fake" one. A video of a gameplay if I uh. Manage to make that). It would be a point and click mixed with an RPG! And you'd have to decypher codes and riddles to progress. The two POVs would be gamemodes! Gen q here: Aside from the banger outfits on the new MH dolls do u prefer the designs of the dolls themselves from the original run or this new one? I personally loved how the pets used to look now they look too cutesy imo I miss when Hissette and Lagoona’s fish looked like y’know actually dangerous animals lol

For me it kind of depends? Like specific aspects I'd say I prefer G1 over G3, other aspects I prefer G3 over G1. Like the pets, I also agree with that, I'm not a fan of how cutesy the G3 pets look, especially with how many of them are just basic ass cats and dogs, or at least look like it? Like, G3 Count Fabulous is a cute thing sure but it doesn't compare to G1's spindly ass actually bat shaped creature that was Count Fabulous. Same goes for G3 vs G1 Chewlian, Neptuna, hell I was annoyed they initially replaced Hissette with that dog G3 signature Cleo came with?? That's so uncreative. I think Crescent and Shiver are the only pets from this Gen that I think look just as good/better than G1 in Shiver's case.

Anyway! Aside from pets lmao, like I said I think they have their own design strengths and weaknesses. Like, the fashion? I do love a lot of the designs for the G3 dolls but I do miss the darker colors and more intricate outfit pieces of G1. It's only within like, the past couple of months that I think G3 has finally hit it's stride and is starting to live up to the same level of thought and purpose G1 was on? And that's a whole other discussion to be had about the difference in their fashion ethos, I'm not getting into it right now but it's interesting, and most certainly not a "MH isn't goth anymore" thing lol. MH wasn't goth in the first place, but that's for another discussion lmao <3

And like, both gens have ugly designs, it's not like either of them is good or bad 100% of the time. Like I can't stand G3 Ghoulia's design, but also I can't stand Howleen's redesign from G1. In fact there's quite a bit of dolls from G1 that I would say are objectively bad, not as bad as G2, but compared to what it we knew it was capable of, some dolls just look lackluster. Both of them are very much capable of fumbling the bag lmao

G3 I think has the biggest design strengths when it comes to the variety of the dolls, cause you can not look me in the eyes and tell me G1 was better at body diversity, or diversity in general, when all the ghouls had the same stick thin ass body molds lmao. Obvs there were a couple of dolls with different heights and specific changes to their molds based on the monster they were, but G3 is just doing SOOO much better in terms of actual varied body diversity. I know Draculaura isn't actually chunky or anything but she's short and has a wide waist and thighs and her figure resembles mine and that makes me so happy. Abbey being fucking TALL and wide fits her so much better than the stick thin body she was confined to in G1. And Catty's upcoming G3 doll having a truly fat body mold?? G1 would NEVER lmao. All the ghouls have bodies that better reflect them in my opinion, they all don't look the exact same in the body shape department and that's wonderful.

Also like, the face sculpts vary based on the race of the characters now and that's amazing? Like, one look at G3 Venus' face sculpt and we immediately knew she was Black, that's not something you can say about G1 and I'm happy they're putting in that extra effort nowadays.

Anyway my point is: each Gen is better than one another in specific aspects, they're worse than the other one is in others. I love both Gens for what they are, I don't think I could say I prefer one over the other because they're both special to me. I got a bit off topic but like, yanno lmao

My Favorite of Your Favorite: Creator's Pet Winners! ~

@feyd-rautha-apologist — Copycat Killer

It takes a bold sort of design to look at effects that double death triggers and say "You know what? That's too pedestrian for my tastes!" I'm instantly captivated by it, though. This is such a cool way to wring extra value out of sacrifices, especially when the specific limit to sacrifices means you always have to put in some amount of effort to get your mana's worth. Creating a copy that instantly dies adds so much more depth than if it just doubled up death triggers, opening up a myriad of enters triggers as well. The fact that it's symmetrical adds a lot of wrinkles too, opening up the possibilities of hijacking priority targets with edict effects, shaving profits off of them sacrificing permanents to fuel their own gameplan, and everything in between. There is a slight concern that the copy is mandatory, as you could theoretically end up copying something you'd really rather not have, but it's more of a corner case than anything fundamental. I love the unique take on the flavor here too, although that flavor maybe suggests it should be limited to creatures. After all, smashed artifacts and razed lands don't often show up as victims in investigation reports.

@izzet-always-r-versus-u — Call the Storm

I'm a big fan of the recent marriage of typical spellslinger strategies with Wizard typal, and the fact that this card welds on the similarly recent convergence of Shaman typal is such a good idea. Presuming it was intentional, I love the callback to the cycle from Brother's War that worked in more or less the same way. Five cards deep and four types to choose between is already compelling, but a token with both flying and prowess is certainly tempting. That alone makes the choice way more dynamic than the creature version, as even if the mill hits one of the types, there's plenty of situations where you'd love to take the token instead. Flashback makes a good pair here too, as hitting one copy with another makes for some tasty value, and in a more general sense makes it slot in that much better in the kind of strategy this suggests. And while it'll do just fine in a more typical spellslinger environment, I'd be very interested to see a take on the deck more concerned with filling its graveyard. Plus, I don't want to gloss over the types on the token, which goes a long way towards capturing my interest. An unusual combination of types given without context is prime speculation fodder, and I can't help but wonder what sort of setting this would fit into.

@reaperfromtheabyss — Flamboyant Brawler

I love a card that truly sells the feeling it's intended to evoke, and it's all the more resonant when that's done via the gameplay design to. This fellow's here to put on a show just as much as they're here to cave faces in, and it does that by promoting an odd sort of playstyle that just seems like a blast to play. Colored mana reductions are always a temperamental beast, but the extreme specificity in terms of both the types of spell and the timing window means that it's unlikely to break anything. Which is great, because there's a lot you can do with this. There's obvious application, loading it up with power at a moment's notice—either through combat tricks or an arsenal of Auras. The only requirement being that it targets the Brawler, though, opens a lot of doors. It's the kind of restriction that encourages you to try to game the system. You could find cards that target multiple things including it, or even targeting multiple Brawlers to compound the reduction. You could find cards where the targeting is only incidental, and another part of the effect is what you're really after. It's a puzzle begging you to solve it packaged with a flavor that encourages you to enjoy it, and I'm eager to do both.

Wilds of Eldraine Draft Booster Challenge

Every set I like to make a draft booster pack featuring the themes of the set. (This particular booster has been done for like a month and I just never got around to posting it lol.) The goal of this project is to make cards that you would be unsurprised to open alongside the rest of the set, while innovating on its mechanics. This is a hard balance to strike, especially at common which takes up the majority of the booster. It's based on one of the challenges from GDS3 that i can no longer link because of wotc's shitty ass update to their website that broke access to like half their articles.

I always like to do something novel in these boosters since, riffing off the GDS3, they’re supposed to be something I’d show to wizards of the coast to impress. Sometimes it’s quite hard to do anything too new at common and uncommon, which means I want to go hogwild at rare. This definitely has the novelty factor. I have no idea if it can be made to work within the rules or if this wording is correct, but I wanted it in here all the same.

Bitter Winds of Winter U Snow Enchantment If you would put one or more stun counters on a permanent an opponent controls, instead put that many plus one stun counters on it. 5U: Tap target creature and put a stun counter on it. (If a creature with a stun counter on it would become untapped, remove a stun counter from it instead.)

I’m a big proponent of the idea that the snow-queen themed cards should have had the snow subtype. I might make a post defending that at some point, but for now just go with it. I went back and forth on whether to make my own card for this theme snow, since it would match less with what the set did, but ultimately I went with this because I decided if I ever do anything with my cards like a custom cube, I’m gonna prefer it to be snow. And I make the rules here. This set has an unusually high number of stun counters and while it isn’t directly tap-matters like most of the cards in this archetype (though it does enable it, if not all that well), it just feels like a cool card to exist and this feels like a good place to do it.

You’ve heard of multikicker, now get ready for multibargain! This feels like design space for the mechanic that wasn’t really explored, so it felt good to touch on in this booster.

Syr Ginger’s Vow 2B Enchantment- Saga (As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.) I | Create two Food tokens II | Sacrifice a Food. If you do, draw a card. III | Destroy up to one target creature or planeswalker. 

For a while I had a Saga in the rare slot, but I decided to swap it out for something with a bit more novelty, so I ended up subbing in this card which I think I like better anyway. I love the Syr Ginger stuff, it’s just so silly, and I like doing Sagas that show a plane’s history. I think this captures the steps of her story very well which is nice for anyone who didn’t see the trailer.

I love weird type combinations, and I wanted to make a Food Vehicle or Food Equipment, and that felt like something that needed to be a top down design- luckily, cinderella provided the perfect opportunity. I wanted it in the cinderella story colors therefor, which means it needed to be white. White isn’t *much* of a food color in this particular set but I feel like that’s fine.

Sword of Noble Destiny 2W Artifact- Equipment When Sword of Noble Destiny enters the battlefield, attach it to target creature you control. You may create a Royal Role token and attach it to that creature. (If you control another Role on it, put that one into the graveyard. Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and has ward 1.) Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and has ward 1. Equip 1

I know this set is mainly focusing on fairy tales and not camelot, I’m really shocked we didn’t get a sword in the stone reference using royal role tokens. It seems like such a hard thing to resist. So I didn’t. I pared it down to its simplest form to get it to work at common; I’m quite happy with the sword bestowing the same bonus as a royal role token, and that you can stack them on the same creature and be happy with that since the bonuses stack. Works out neatly.

Never Woke Up 1U Enchantment- Aura > Lay Down U > Instant- Adventure > Tap target creature. Enchant creature Enchanted creature doesn’t untap during its controller’s untap step.

This set debuted adventures on enchantments but only on a single rare cycle. I wanted to expand on that with a cycle of Auras, and here’s the representative of that cycle.

Hungering Lich-Knight 2B Creature- Zombie Knight Bargain (You may sacrifice an artifact, enchantment, or token as you cast this spell.) Hungering Lich-Knight has lifelink and haste as long as you’ve sacrificed a permanent this turn. 3/1 The Wilds are haunted by the Courts’ past misdeeds.

Here’s a twist I always like to play with alternate cost mechanics; one where the bonus doesn’t specifically require the alternate cost, but if you pay the cost it’s guaranteed. I did something similar with exploit back in VOW. I think it’s just a very fun way to do something a little different with a mechanic.

Evil Relative 1R Creature- Human When Evil Relative enters the battlefield, for each creature you control named Evil Relative, create a Wicked Role token and attach that token to that creature. (If you control another Role on it, put that one into the graveyard. Enchanted creature gets +1/+1. When this Aura is put into a graveyard, each opponent loses 1 life.)    1/1

I wanted a card that really plays with the “You can only have one role on a creature” and Wicked felt like the best way to do that since it has a payoff for that. Since there was no wicked role card connected to the wicked step family, I decided to connect it to that which helped pull the design together in a “have multiple of this card” direction.

Induce Vengeance 2R Instant Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to any target. Create a Cursed Role token and attach it to that creature. (If you control another Role on it, put that one into the graveyard. Enchanted creature is 1/1.) The coven would not let their sister’s murder go unavenged.

I wanted to try using a cursed role as a sacrifice-lite effect and decided fling was a nice and simple execution of that. I think it’s fun cause with bargain and with other roles, since it’s easier to get your creature back at full power. It was very far from the usual fling flavor though, so I decided to go with someone kills a witch and is then cursed by her sisters in return. 

Reign of Vermin 1R Enchantment When Reign of Vermin enters the battlefield, create two 1/1 black Rat creature tokens with “This creature can’t block.” 4R, Sacrifice Reign of Vermin: Attacking Rats you control get +2/+0 until end of turn.

You know I couldn’t resist putting a rat typal card in here. Typal cards at common tend to be be more of the threshold-one variety (that is, only asking that you control one creature of that type, or one other creature) because limited plays better if commons are less demanding on your deck, so they’re more usable in multiple archetypes. But I think this card works fine on its own even if it’s of course better with more Rats to go around so I don’t think that’s too much of a problem. I also like how this design came out as very good bargain fodder, which helps it tie into the set more. 

Basket of Baked Goods G Artifact- Food Whenever Basket of Baked Goods enters the battlefield or is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on up to one target creature. 2, T, Sacrifice Basket of Baked Goods: You gain 3 life. The werefox couldn’t help but comment on the smell of such a delicious morsel.

Here’s another nontoken food and another fun piece of bargain fodder. I know it’s redundant with some of the cards I have already but I’m really happy with the design and I definitely wanted it in here.

Feasting Hedonists 1G Creature- Elf Ward 2 Whenever an Aura becomes attached to Feasting Hedonists, create a Food token. (It’s an artifact with 2, T, Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 3 life.”) 2/2 A night of song and dance in the woods, a decade of time lost.

And here’s the obligatory enchantment payoff of the set, simplified for common. It has a simple payoff (though one that ties well into set themes and helps you pay bargain costs you probably want in your enchantment deck without having to sacrifice those enchantments you want), and I made it only proc off of aura that become attached to itself so follow the rule of thumb that commons shouldn’t do much when you’re not already looking at them. The ward is so you don’t get punished too hard for putting auras on this thing.

Bonus Sheet Slot

Hunting Prowess 3G Enchantment- Aura [rare] Storm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each spell cast before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies. Copies become tokens.) Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and has “Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.”

Bonus sheet slots are always weird since they’re explicitly reprints and the point of this project is to make new cards but the solution I’ve settled on is to make a card that wouldn’t feel out of place on the bonus sheet (ties into the overall theme, doesn’t demand things of limited that aren’t present, works flavorfully) but also wouldn’t be a good fit for the main set. The easiest way to meet that second constraint is to use a keyword that wasn’t present. This is a card that would have most likely been in MH2 to be reprinted here, but I think an Aura with storm is just a lot of fun. Combat damage trigger felt like the best way to make it being an Aura, rather than a sorcery distributing counters, worth it in a way that can be spread out or stacked on one creature.

Not once in the history of Bo’s life has Bo ever worn shoes, if the sharp toed dogs being out is a deal breaker I’m sorry, Bo can be changed in many ways with the power of love and found family but they will never change that

Equally possessive as Bo is loyal. i am REALLY LOVING this series of movie monster reviews -- this is exactly what i want from a horror movie review!!! i have a hard time watching horror movies but i love them conceptually and i especially love CREATURES!!! but every review or plot summary in the universe gives such a half-hearted synopsis that theyre often nearly unintelligible. i really appreciate the time u take to talk abt the important details of the film esp like reocurring symbolism and stuff because my god a lot of even spoiler reviews just give a once over of like, the physical blocking that happens and i come away with absolutely no knowlege of what the movie is actually like or what it is actually about. and of COURSE the most important part is the monster i always want to know everything about the monster and u include all the relevant cool details. tysm im really really enjoying them!!!!!!

Yeah actually I also decided to do it because it's hard to find online reviews that address everything even when you WANT to be spoiled, or for that matter you even just want to see anyone actually talking in detail about the same things you just watched? Sometimes after a movie I look up reviews because I want to know what other people picked up on or how they felt about the same elements I liked or disliked but all I can find are things like "this movie was good at conveying its story" stretched into ten paragraphs, or hundreds of reviews who don't dare spoil a single plot point even years after a movie has been out. And yeah almost ALL reviews for monster movies in particular will only mention the monster itself in a couple of brief statements, which at most will only express whether the reviewer found it scary or how it reminded them very broadly of something they've seen before. I guess that's kind of why I write my whole site, really. I want to know I'm not the only one who cares about the specifics, like how iconic it is that the Graboids in Tremors have the one huge goofy upper squid beak and three smaller scarier lower jaws.

And the predator has a pretty scary fleshy crab face and all but VERY SILLY little grouchy eyes which I think is very important

I won’t get to talk as much in terms of “creature design” for this December feature though because so much of it is going to be stuff that stretches what a “monster” can even be. I have so many malevolent abstract concepts and sentient inanimate forces coming up.

A friend implored me to share my KirbyOCs on here. x3 I have 2 but here's my favorite Agape.

I've had this Kirby OC since I was like 7yrs old lol. I very rarely ever drew them and just kinda rotated them in my head for years. I finally started solidifying their appearance and character design in the last couple years cuz I really wanted to join in on the Kirby fandom's love for their characters. >.< but I still haven't lol

Their name is Agape (ah-gah-pay), tho I'm sure I mispronounce it, which is the old Greek word for the love for all things, Aka ur instinctual love for even strangers and the want to see them happy. The reason u smile at a baby when they look at you or feel sympathy and hurt when u see someone crying.

Since Amazing Mirror was my first Kirby game, I'd tried making a Chip into a Star Warrior. I loved the Emerald Spray from the game as well so their base color is that emerald/mint green (but more pastel) and their fur is a creamy yellow. Their cheekies and eyes are a light pastel pink. Once Squeak Squad came out and the Animal copy ability was released, I was more excited for them. Their design has shifted a lot since then (their fur used to be a lil hoodie the way Animal's is) but this is their design as of now! :D I'm going to try and doodle some more so I can show their adopted brother too, which is actually just Kimyrn as an AU cameo into Kirby lmfaoooo

They were a medic in the GSA. Their inate power was that they can shapeshift into anything they've bitten/ate. Some of their favorites are to turn their fur into frosting or custard to give others a sweet treat. Because of their ability, before they joined the GSA, they were a bit of an outcast. People didn't trust them and since there is no way to tell if someone is themselves or Agape playing a game, people would grow resentful of Agape and the mistrust they sowed in the communities they lived in. They learned not to turn into others without their explicit consent, but it didn't stop the inherent distrust of their person. If a monster attacked and no one saw Agape, they'd often blame Agape for the attack. The GSA was on the chase for them, having believed these rumors of a monster that bounced from town to town / planet to planet trying to trick people into letting it live in their homes only to destroy it. When they finally caught up to Agape, scared and alone, it became clear that this creature just had the misfortune of having an ability no one trusted. Agape joined the GSA to finally have a community that would love and trust them... and they paid it forward in a hunderedfold.

Agape became a medic and a fierce warrior. What good was a medic that couldn't fight their way into a monster hoard to save you? They loved all their friends with such a sweet passion that the other Star Warriors began to wonder how anyone had ever hated them. Agape was always willing to comfort and cuddle others, especially the wounded were showered in affection. When the Kirby anime made the remark that Star Warriors give their Warp Stars to those that truly love them for protection, and that they would return to that person on their own, I started tangling Warp Stars in Agape's fur. I feel like their unconditional love for everyone in their community made people trust them with their Stars. Agape cares for each and every one of them in their care.

Dnd Drow: practice eugenics, are described as evil with an emphasis on their dark skin. got banished to live in caves because they're evil, so they don't actually have good adaptations for it. a lot about their evilness is tied to the worship of a spider god, with a religiously strict social hierarchy in a reverse sexist matriarchy. They have slaves, especially male sex slaves (i had to tone that down as "poorly treated harems" for the sake of posting it in an all ages discord server with rules about sex discussions)

My Drow: purple cave elves semi-based on baboons for some anatomical details. their genetics are real weird and their hormones are quite unique. they worship a motherly spider goddess because spiders are cool and also they actually have a special ability to make magic glowing silk, so the spider worship makes sense. They live in caves because they adapted to live there, with big ears and eyes and sensory whiskers. they live in a matriarchy because the matriarch is their mom and she is part of a polycule, typically established for political reasons like maintaining allegiances. the social hierarchy is managed through mass sibling rivalries because living with dozens of your own siblings is a little tense sometimes. Also due to their eusocial biology, they essentially have three different biological sexes and quite a few different social gender roles, depending on hos you want to define a gender role.

as u can see, my drow are clearly the superior version. (this is a joke, i am making a joke, don't sue me WotC)

should i make a new word for them? maybe. but since "drow" just comes from "trow" which describes a very wide variety of cave-dwelling fae, coming up with a new word that's still recognizable is gonna be tricky.

Alrighty- we've heard about Michael and have seen Raphael in canon, but what about Gabriel?!



-Role/ general information:

Gabriel is considered one of the "Big Three" in the hierarchy of the Celestial realm and other angels, Raphael is the other appointed member, and, of course, Michael is the most recognizable and revered Archangel among them.

They all fulfill different roles, Michael being something like a manager and overseer to his angel brethren. Raphael acting as both a healer and assassin if Father so pleased. Gabriel's job is unique, he's a messenger- a harbinger of truth, an envoy of information, an omen of situations.

Many demons have nightmares of the blaring cry of Gabriel's trumpet which initiated the calamity that was The Celestial War. Brass instruments are widely disliked in the Devildom; even demons that had been destroyed and took years to regenerate, losing their memories in the process, still become unnerved at the sound.

Gabriel holds a seemingly limitless amount of information about anyone and everyone, knowing names of every individual he looks at even if he hadn't met them before. However, he is not a prophesier as many may assume, he's just a messenger with a gift of knowledge about any current or previous living creature with a soul.

Since Gabriel is a messenger, it's not often he gets the chance of intermission before he has to be off again to fulfill another duty, and after (and especially during) the Celestial War, his work load increased- feeding into his reputation as a grouchy and reserved workaholic younger angels seemed to presume. It didn't help that he has a very intense resting grumpy face and ceaseless work he needed to accomplish lest he disappoint Father.

The people who interact with Gabriel the most are, of course, their Father, then Michael and Raphael. Simeon had only ever had a handful of interactions with him in the Celestial Realm after the war, and Luke had only ever met him once before Gabriel's arrival in the Devildom and R.A.D.

Before the war, the now demon siblings actually spent quite a bit of time with Gabriel- most often Lucifer and/or Mammon who cherished their time with their older brother. It was always enjoyable spending time with him during his lulls between his missions, Gabriel had a love and talent for brass instruments, playing ethereal melodies that encouraged anyone to join in the merriment in whatever way they wanted.

Other pastimes and hobbies of his include writing; it was mostly private letters to his loved ones or pen pals from every realm, but he occasionally dabbles in script writing and fictional stories with Simeon. He saves reports and recounts for work related orders since they lack feeling and personality, in his opinion.

Before Gabriel lays down to sleep, he details everything he did during his waking hours. Due to a majority of his mind and memory is dedicated to others (names that will only continue to grow as more beings come into existence, and names that will stay even after their physical life), he has to sacrifice his own memories to accommodate the new. So, to make sure that none of his life- especially the important events- go completely lost to himself, he writes it down. His home library in the Celestial Realm is teeming with only his journals, which he seldom allows others to visit unless essential or ordered by their Father. That rule is especially strict against Michael since he has tried to alter the records Gabriel writes for a reason he can't quite figure out since Michael is a master at diverting conversation topics and derailing trains of thought. There are also a few notebooks missing, since they are placed chronologically, it's easy to notice the jump in dates- and his number one suspect is Michael, even though he claims innocence.



-Why is Gabriel in the Devildom?

At first, Gabriel was assigned to the human realm as a transfer (I have no idea if angels or demons actually went to the human realm as transfers, but I find that idea interesting) but was brought back after a few months when he kept having to bring back reports of his own unusual behavior towards humans.

To clarify first, nothing Gabriel did had any intention of weirding out, belittle, or confuse any human! He just got a little too eager with his fascination of humans and how far they have come since him, his Father, and oldest brothers all had a hand in the humans' creation and development. How could one not be curious to see how they're doing without their guidance for so long? But that curiosity did lead to some accidental odd encounters when questions came out without any filter or tact.

A human once made a post about an interaction with Gabriel that took their school by storm (of course, Gabe thought it was awesome that mass media can spread information so fast! It's like a pocket him people carry around!), it was a tweet made by the person that read something like this:

*"AKSMKWAN SO THAT WEIRD TRANSFER GUY CAME UP TO ME AND JUST LIKE FORCIBLY FIXED MY POSTURE AND JUST SAID 'you know, humans aren't supposed to sit like that' BITCH WHAT?? YOU AN ALIEN OR SMTHN LMAOAASLKLAD 💀💀😭😭😭"*

Needless to say, it was determined that maybe Gabriel wasn't the best choice as transfer student to the human realm, he needs to learn to repress his curiosity for humans again, first.

During that whole situation, word of a human being in the Devildom wielding the power of all eight lords of Hell the angels' former siblings finally reached the Celestial realm and caused a lot of talk and confusion to stir- and that unease caught the attention of Father. His weakest creations (humans) having an individual that's able to harness such power was unusual, and He knew better than to leave it be in case of another war. So, He tasked his most trusted archangel messenger, Gabriel, to inform him of the situation at hand- Michael was more than upset that he wasn't chosen for the assignment, especially since Simeon and Luke respect him wholeheartedly and are afraid enough of him that they wouldn't dare disobey him. Michael was worried that Gabriel would go soft if his "former" (Michael felt the need to really stress that sentiment) siblings, or current ones, being Simeon and Luke, were to ask him to.

But Father paid no mind to Michael's veiled disapproving of His choice and sent Gabriel to make sure that everything is as it should be, and that there are no threats of a future war. Now, there was one thing their Father was worried about; Gabriel is pretty incapable of lying, pretty much unable to not spill the beans about anything he's asked explicitly, even at his own expense- I mean, that's what makes him such a trustworthy and reliable messenger! But that might prove to be trouble if the demons find out he's there as something akin to a spy rather than a brother, and it could affect the authenticity of their behavior around his supervision. So, Father placed a curse spell on Gabriel's tongue that ensured that, even if asked his true purpose of attending RAD so suddenly, the truth would never be able to escape past his teeth. What Gabriel doesn't know about the spell is that, if fought against, his tongue would rip itself out, and he'd have to wait 48 human hours before it grew back... Michael suggested that as a precaution of sorts- demons are persuasive, you never know what they might trick poor Gabriel into thinking or saying!

No, no! I don't hate Michael! Why do you ask? What could have possibly made you think that...😁/s… But honestly, I don’t know much about him in-game, so I’m going off of the fandom’s general opinion lol.

-Personality and opinions:

First and foremost, Gabriel is an angel- he serves God, all angels' Father, he will always think about God's will and goal before he does anything. His purpose is to inform, to be a communicator between worlds, truth first, the improvement and safety of others being his own moral compass. When Gabriel first came to existence, he believed that nothing could ever budge his views, nothing could ever make him steer away from Father's system or make him do things differently than how God's system instructed. That was until he met his brothers and sisters.

Yes, he is an angel, but he's also a brother, an older brother, one with so much love and admiration in his heart for his siblings that they could compel him to go against his very purpose of creation if his siblings needed that of him.

Even though he chose not to join his younger siblings in revolting against their Father, even if Lucifer may have been a little disappointed by Gabriel’s refusal, he never felt like Gabriel had or would ever betray them. Gabriel even made sure he never spoke of their plans to anyone- purposefully avoiding conversation topics or even leaving in the middle of conversations if he thinks anyone might try to ask him. Maybe that’s some of the reason behind the animosity Michael and Gabriel harbor behind closed doors- the reason younger angels have such a skewed perception of Gabriel- the missing notebooks and distrust.

But Father still wholeheartedly trusts them both, He lets Gabriel write letters to the fallen siblings (but he saves him from the betrayal he’d feel by not letting him know that Michael destroys them before they can make it out of Celestia), He still lets him go on confidential missions with full faith in His son’s obedience to him. He allows him the “freedom” to be a messenger between the realms, so much he’s allowed to see during his deliveries. And the knowledge that Gabriel can continue to bend the rules as he pleases without punishment is the bane of Michael’s peace of mind and sense of control. He’s supposed to be in charge of all the angels, but Gabriel has always been, and will continue to be, on the same level as him- no matter how much Michael wants to have power and control, or how many loopholes Gabriel exploits without being caught by Father, they will always be equal.  

After the notorious revolt Lucifer initiated, choosing the demon life followed by six of his younger siblings, anyone left behind weren’t to think of them as their siblings anymore- they are traitorous demons being housed by the enemy, don’t hold out any hope or sympathy for them anymore. Many angels agreed and did as they were told, eliminating any kind feelings they had for them, severing any emotional ties they might’ve had. However, there were those who couldn’t, or wouldn’t think that way- Simeon and Gabriel being those few. They may not have outright expressed those feelings to any of their angel siblings, but they did make sure to help quell hatred and fear towards demons during the rebuilding of peace after the war.

Personality-wise, Gabriel is very mature and comforting like most angels are, but there’s a distinction with him compared to other angels when it comes to his ability to make anyone feel like he’s their guardian and/or unshaking figure of protection and safety. It could be because he’s one of the oldest, especially in the Devildom where the only one who beats him in age is Barbatos. Gabriel just radiates reliability and stability, he treats everyone equally, his lectures never feel like you’re less than him, maybe the brothers just see it that way because that’s what lectures from Lucifer feel like, but even Luke and Levi feel like an equal when talking with Gabriel. He’s working on coming off just the same towards humans, he truly never intended on coming off like he was an alien first coming in contact with a human.

As mentioned before, Gabriel is honest to a fault. He just can’t help it- many people joke that it’s a compulsion, and more crude individuals joke it’s his kink to be so honest. Gabe always chuckles along, he just can’t help it, it’s how he’s wired, how he was created to be. But because of his chronic honesty, he really can’t be included in any childish schemes the brothers, angels, or MC may be up to- the moment they’re caught and that fateful ‘what are you doing?’ question is asked, the whole plan that was so brilliantly clever and so close to fool-proof, is now being revealed. However, there are times where only the goal rather than the plan is revealed, giving more of a chance for the masterminds to cover their tracks.

There are times the siblings are reminded and outsiders learn exactly where Lucifer got his smothering habit, watching as Gabriel, subtly or not, fusses over everyone. Straightening ties, fixing unruly hair, guiding distracted walkers out of the way of obstacles, catching them before they fall, etc, etc, etc… but every older sibling finds humor in annoying the younger ones for no other reason than just being a shithead for fun and watching your siblings grow more irked at such a small, annoying thing.  He’ll pluck a feather off, open and close wings over and over, pulling them by the horns all the way to their room if they start throwing a childish tantrum, simply holding tails still or swatting them. He isn’t afraid of them, not even Satan whom he hadn’t met or knew of until the war, he really couldn’t find himself to be afraid of their demon forms since all he can ever be reminded of was them as young angels throwing the same tantrums. But this treatment isn’t limited to the demon and angel siblings, his new human friends aren’t spared either.

Even if the nice treatment is the same, the teasing and torment is specially curated to the humans, getting annoying in just the right way. Pestering them about their pacts or small things about human culture, occasionally sighing and saying: “that was so human of you 😊” just to mess with you (Solomon doesn’t give a fun enough reaction). Ruffling hair, fixing posture, and one time so far- scaring the shit out of either of you with one quick, loud, blow on his trumpet.

Such a gossip fiend! Being the bearer of news means Gabriel has to be up to date and well informed about everything! What do you mean this demon’s love life isn’t very crucial information he needs to immediately and frequently be updated on the moment the situation develops even a little? It’s not unimportant information- and no, don’t ask why he need to know, totally not because he just loves gossip! (It is). He is the number one person to go to for a fix of gossip, since he knows everyone’s name, he’ll be able to tell you the identity of everyone involved in a story- even if they just walked by the situation at some point, they are included in the retelling.

-Powers and abilities:

He’s able to write with his magic, multiple pages at a time too. He’s smart, so it’s pretty much impossible to tell that he’s doing it at all. He could be talking with people in Purgatory Hall, attending school and doing schoolwork, breaking up a fight between siblings, attending an event at the Demon Lord’s castle, and everyone would be none the wiser to the fact that all the way back in his dorm, his feathers are scribbling away at paper, writing complete, eloquently worded and neatly written paragraphs without losing focus on either end.  

Commanding attention. Sure, almost anyone can do that- but Gabriel has a gift for it. Sometimes a panicking crowd will fail to notice someone trying to calm them down or lead them to safety, but the moment asks for silence; the crowd will still and heads turn to him, waiting for what he has to say. No matter how softly he may utter his words, if he commands it, the sound will always reach ears and catch attention. For the more scheming types, that power is perfect for sneaking away while all eyes are on Gabriel, but that’s only if he agrees, his ability to draw attention in may affect the schemer too if he so pleases.

Subliminal messages/ omens. Sometimes, drawing attention to something or public announcements may not be the best course of action when trying to warn or inform, so by creating omens or sending a gut-feeling to someone, it can allow a situation to be subtly discovered and, hopefully, fixed. This ability can also prove helpful when he wants to relay information without anyone else, or any one person, being aware of anything at all. Humans long ago called this ‘divine intuition’ or ‘divine intervention’.

He knows any current and past living beings’ names; all he has to do is look at the being and the name will pop in his head. He doesn’t know future peoples’ names, though. That’s for the Archangel of Prophecy to know, and Gabriel is content with not knowing any more than what he has to.



Appearance:

Is fairly tall, reaching about six foot 3 (or around 1.92 meters)- so nothing startling, just a bit taller than most of the surrounding people. In my own personal height headcanons, Diavolo, Beelzebub, and Leviathan are the only people who are taller than him (unless, of course, you/MC also are!).

Long, slightly wavy, silky, inky black hair that reaches to the bottom of Gabriel’s shoulder blades. Very reminiscent of Lucifer’s hair had he not cut it- or if he hadn’t gotten some grey due to the overwhelming stress of his brothers. Most of the time, it’s down, he even cut his bangs into a slight middle part so his hair wouldn’t get in his face all the time; occasionally, however, he puts it in a low ponytail, but that’s usually only when he’s writing. Back during the war, he exclusively wore his hair up, but not much anymore. He doesn’t mind it when people play with his hair, so you can often find Asmo messing with it as he pleases, and if that’s something you enjoy doing, feel free to join as well.

Pretty androgynous looking- even though I’ve used he/him pronouns on Gabriel (for the sake of simplicity and to not confuse anyone once I started naming a lot of different people at the same time) I firmly believe pronouns generally don’t matter to angels or demons, especially not Gabriel. It’s not uncommon to see Gabriel being depicted as a more masculine or feminine being, even a lot of artworks being somewhere in the middle- so I wanted that to be the case here, too! He/She/They are all good to Gabriel, even it/its is welcomed! Any other fun, human created labels are welcomed! Gabriel loves it all!

I would say they have light brown eyes, similar to pecans or milk chocolate, his gaze being just as sweet. Those eyes have witnessed so much, but you’d never be able to guess by the gentle look ever present when he looks at those he loves so dearly. His lashes are thick and long- long enough that glasses lenses always become a cage, getting brushed and scratched by the long bristles of hair.

Relationships:

(You’ll see me refer to a lot of affection as ‘brotherly’ just as a reminder that NO, there is nothing romantic going on! I’m a sucker for platonic/familial affection, and I’d hate for such an innocent thing to be misunderstood. I don’t care if they aren’t ‘technically’ siblings, they are to me! I don’t care if any of this is ooc- it’s cute and fun to me! Lol, enough of that, let’s carry on.)

Lucifer: Since the early days of Lucifer’s creation, Gabriel had always felt like a big brother to him- when times were tough, Gabriel was the first, and sometimes only, person Lucifer would go to. After the fall, he had expected that Gabriel wouldn’t see him as the same brother he was before, so he decided to try and push any sense of love he held for him away, next to the love of any of the other angel siblings he favored. So, after the thousands of years of complete radio silence, the last thing he expected from Gabriel’s arrival in the Devildom was Gabe’s unchanged brotherly affection.

The moment Gabriel’s eyes met Lucifer after he opened the doors to the entrance of the House of Lamentation, Gabriel engulfed his brother in such a familiarly comforting hug. Usually, his pride would never allow such an open display of affection, but as he felt Gabriel place a brotherly kiss to the crown of his head, he couldn’t find it in himself to push him away.

“I’ve missed you so much, dear brother. I can’t believe you’ve changed so much right under my nose,” Gabriel pulled back to take in Lucifer’s face.

And though it hadn’t truly changed much, it felt so much different, so much older, to Gabriel.

“I-” Lucifer started, a little surprised by Gabriel’s actions. “I didn’t realize you still regarded me as your brother.”

Gabriel’s brows furrowed a moment, “Did you never receive any of my letters?”

Lucifer matched the same furrow in his brow, “I was never made aware of any letters, no.”

Gabriel’s jaw clenched as he exhaled sharply, his hands lowering from Lucifers shoulders to his elbows before it seemed he came to some sort of conclusion- his forehead relaxing and a small smile paired with a short laugh-like puff of air escaping Gabriel’s lips.

“No wonder you’re confused. Let’s all gather around and catch each other up,” Gabriel finally released Lucifer from his hold. “I have a feeling I know why my letters never reached you all- but that doesn’t matter now. I’m excited to see everyone.”

As time passed in the Devildom, and Gabriel became more of a regular character in the grand scheme of it all- it’s not uncommon to see him and Lucifer talking over drinks in the music room during late weekend nights.

Mammon: Oh boy, it’s not often you see Mammon so happy over someone’s presence outside of MC, so watching as his face stretches into a carefully happy, but somewhat confused smile before turning into a closed eye grin, was a unique sight to behold.

Mammon had forgotten how much fulfillment he had felt when he played with Gabriel as a young angel, so having him here again sparked his greed for that feeling again. He knew things would never be the same as they were before, that was something Mammon understood too well, but he was more than happy to at least have a sliver back what he had before, and now he gets to live that with MC- the other very important thing in his life.
