Round 2: Eadaz uq-Nāra (The Roots of Chaos) vs Eliot Spencer (Leverage)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Propaganda Under Cut]
Eadaz uq-Nāra: she's undercover in this fantasy tudor world to guard sabran for the sake of the priory's aims but she fights tooth and nail to not be taken away from sabran as well when the leadership changes, she successfully guards sabran from multiple assassins and a whole fucking dragon and stays undercover because no one at court including sabran knows about her. sabran thinks her magic blood saved her from the dragon but nooo its your girlfriend
Eliot Spencer: Now, he's not a bodyguard by name, his inofficial work-title is "Hitter" and he used to do the opposite of bodyguarding for most of his career (killing people for money). But since then he's met a very cool group of thieves and the whole affair turned into a found family where his job is to protect all the players during their heist and cons and punch their opponents in the face if need be (or get hurt in their stead). Now you would be forgiven for thinking he's just a guy who punches people, but the amount of time he talks about ensuring the team's safety and well being (by keeping them physically safe and well fed), and the amount of times he just abandons post and vaults into danger because someone on the team is in trouble are countless. There is an episode where he gets shot twice throwing himself between his team mates and a bad guy. There is a what if episode where he isn't there to protect a part of the team for a bit and promptly everyone dies (including him, hand in hand with his mates).

do you ever think about how ead and tané are parallels?
they’re both outcasts (ead in inys and tané because she’s an orphan/poor/doesn’t have dragon rider ancestry), they’re both brave and secretive and hardworking and skilled at fighting and they love people they shouldn’t (sabran for ead, susa for tané) and because of all that they clash. their positions are similar but opposite, ead as a sister of the priory and tané as a dragonrider.
and their arcs and connections to their loved ones are similar too!! initially, both their motivations come from their desire to be respected and gain a (higher) position in their respective organisations, but they come to understand what they had to do, their role in this war, and they fulfil them even as it costs them their respect and status and positions. sabran and nayimathun are causes for those losses, for that scorn and rejection by the people ead and tané wanted nothing more to impress and be a part of, but they are anchors for them as well, what they love the most in this world. sabran and nayimathun motivate ead and tané to do the right thing and support them through the hard times, give them hope when they need it most.
they’re so similar but the differences they do have illustrate the ones between the south/west and east, especially with relation to magic/dragons and the beliefs surrounding that.

"I am not your queen," Sabran whispered over her skin, "but I am yours." Ead raked her fingers through the dark of her hair. "And you will find that I can also be generous."

Round 1: Thancred Waters (Final Fantasy XIV) vs Eadaz uq-Nāra (The Roots of Chaos)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Propaganda Under Cut]
Thancred Waters: Willing and maybe a little too eager to sacrifice his life for the cause :( but he cheats death and adopts his bodyguard-ee as his daughter and it’s very sweet.

So Kalyba fumbled Ead in TPOTOT, fumbled Tunuva in ADOFN, and Samathan Shannon has both another prequel and a sequel planned for the series. Odds are Kalyba will fumble Galian Berethnet in the prequel. For the sequel, she's technically dead, but I believe in her failwoman energy. I believe she's capable of fumbling a baddie from beyond the grave.

I will meet you on the sand of Perchling. And we will find our somewhere.
Ead and Sabran, from The Priory of the Orange Tree
ID by the lovely @maileesque
[ID: two digital portraits of eadaz uq-nāra and sabran berethnet from the priory of the orange tree. they both have their hair down.
the first is of ead. the image is heavily tinted red, and she’s facing right with a neutral expression. a big golden sun-shaped earring dangles from her ear, and a simple golden diadem consisting of a thin frame interspersed with stars wraps around her head/hair. in a solid red lighter than the background, a branch of flowers frames her head in a circular shape. text reads, “my heart knows your song, as you know mine,”
the second image is of sabran. she’s facing left, also with a neutral expression. like ead, she’s wearing golden jewellery. it consists of a large crescent moon shaped hairpin, a plethora of small star-shaped hairpins, a double star dangle earring, and a choker with circular moon and star designs. like ead, flower branches encircle her head on the background. text reads, “and I will always come back to you.”
the third image is the two illustrations next to each other, making it seem like ead and sabran are looking at each other. together, the text reads, “my heart knows your song, as you know mine, and I will always come back to you.” /end ID]
prints of these available on my shop :)

The priory of the orange tree should really be referred to as “Arteloth Beck’s great journey into the unknown of atheism.”
