Last starlight for Gaia as it completes sky-scanning mission phase
The European Space Agency's Milky Way-mapper Gaia has completed the sky-scanning phase of its mission, racking up more than 3 trillion observations of about 2 billion stars and other objects over the last decade to revolutionize the view of our home galaxy and cosmic neighborhood.
Launched on 19 December 2013, Gaia's fuel tank is now approaching empty—it uses about a dozen grams of cold gas per day to keep it spinning with pinpoint precision. But this is far from the end of the mission. Technology tests are scheduled for the weeks ahead before Gaia is moved to its "retirement" orbit, and two massive data releases are tabled for around 2026 and the end of this decade, respectively.
"Today marks the end of science observations and we are celebrating this incredible mission that has exceeded all our expectations, lasting for almost twice its originally foreseen lifetime," says ESA Director of Science Carole Mundell.
"The treasure trove of data collected by Gaia has given us unique insights into the origin and evolution of our Milky Way galaxy, and has also transformed astrophysics and solar system science in ways that we are yet to fully appreciate. Gaia built on unique European excellence in astrometry and will leave a long-lasting legacy for future generations."
"After 11 years in space and surviving micrometeorite impacts and solar storms along the way, Gaia has finished collecting science data. Now all eyes turn towards the preparation of the next data releases," says Gaia Project Scientist Johannes Sahlmann.
"I am thrilled with the performance of this incredible mission, and excited about the discoveries that await us."
Gaia delivers best Milky Way map
Gaia has been charting the positions, distances, movements, brightness changes, composition and numerous other characteristics of stars by monitoring them with its three instruments many times over the course of the mission.
This has enabled Gaia to deliver on its primary goal of building the largest, most precise map of the Milky Way, showing us our home galaxy like no other mission has done before. As such, we now also have the best reconstructed view of how our galaxy might look to an outside observer. This new artist impression of the Milky Way incorporates Gaia data from a multitude of papers over the past decade.
"It contains major changes from previous models, because Gaia has changed our impression of the Milky Way. Even basic ideas have been revised, such as the rotation of our galaxy's central bar, the warp of the disk, the detailed structure of spiral arms, and interstellar dust near the sun," says Stefan Payne-Wardenaar, scientific visualizer for the Haus der Astronomie, Germany, and the IAU Office of Astronomy for Education.
"Still, the distant parts of the Milky Way remain educated guesses based on incomplete data. With further Gaia data releases our view of the Milky Way will become even more accurate."
Discovery machine of the decade
Gaia's repeated measurements of stellar distances, motions and characteristics are key to performing "galactic archaeology" on our Milky Way, revealing missing links in our galaxy's complex history to help us learn more about our origins. From detecting "ghosts" of other galaxies and multiple streams of ancient stars that merged with the Milky Way in its early history, to finding evidence for an ongoing collision with the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy today, Gaia is rewriting the Milky Way's history and making predictions about its future.
In the process of scanning the stars in our own galaxy, Gaia has also spotted other objects, from asteroids in our solar system backyard to galaxies and quasars—the bright and active centers of galaxies powered by supermassive black holes—outside our Milky Way.
For example, Gaia has provided pinpoint precision orbits of more than 150,000 asteroids, and has such high-quality measurements as to uncover possible moons around hundreds of them. It has also created the largest three-dimensional map of about 1.3 million quasars, with the furthest shining bright when the universe was only 1.5 billion years old.
Gaia has also discovered a new breed of black hole, including one with a mass of nearly 33 times the mass of the sun, hiding in the constellation Aquila, less than 2,000 light-years from Earth—the first time a black hole of stellar origin this big has been spotted within the Milky Way.
"It is impressive that these discoveries are based only on the first few years of Gaia data, and many were made in the last year alone. Gaia has been the discovery machine of the decade, a trend that is set to continue," says Anthony Brown, Chair of the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC) and based at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
More ground-breaking science ahead
The Gaia scientific and engineering teams are already working full steam on the preparations for Gaia Data Release 4 (DR4), expected in 2026. The data volume and quality improves with every release and Gaia DR4, with an expected 500 TB of data products, is no exception. Furthermore, it will cover the mission's first 5.5 years, corresponding to the length of the originally foreseen duration of the mission.
"This is the Gaia release the community has been waiting for, and it's exciting to think this only covers half of the collected data," says Antonella Vallenari, Deputy Chair of DPAC based at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Astronomical Observatory of Padua, Italy. "Even though the mission has now stopped collecting data, it will be business as usual for us for many years to come as we make these incredible datasets ready for use."
Gaia Data Release 4 is set to expand its binary star catalogue, the largest such catalogue to date. Gaia has a unique ability to tease out the tiny motions of pairs of celestial objects orbiting close to each other, and has already spotted previously hidden companions around bright stars.
Incidentally, Gaia's last targeted observation, on 10 January, was of binary pair 61 Cygni. This iconic star attracted the attention of 19th-century astronomers to yield some of the first proper motion and parallax measurements, techniques used by Gaia on some two billion stars.
Gaia's exoplanet discoveries are also set to increase with the forthcoming datasets thanks to the longer timeframe of observations making it much easier to spot 'wobbling' stars gently tugged by orbiting planets.
"Over the next months we will continue to downlink every last drop of data from Gaia, and at the same time the processing teams will ramp up their preparations for the fifth and final major data release at the end of this decade, covering the full 10.5 years of mission data," says Rocio Guerra, Gaia Science Operations Team Leader based at ESA's European Space Astronomy Center (ESAC) near Madrid in Spain.
"This will conclude an incredible coordinated effort between hundreds of experts across the science operations center here at ESAC, the mission operations team flying Gaia from ESA's European Space Operations Center in Germany, and the huge consortium of data processing specialists, who have together ensured the smooth running of this beautiful mission for so long."
Gaia's retirement plan
While today marks the end of science observations, a short period of technology testing now begins. The tests have the potential to further improve the Gaia calibrations, learn more about the behavior of certain technology after 10 years in space, and even aid the design of future space missions.
After several weeks of testing, Gaia will leave its current orbit around Lagrange point 2, 1.5 million km from the Earth in the direction away from the sun, to be put into its final heliocentric orbit, far away from Earth's sphere of influence. The spacecraft will be passivated on 27 March 2025, to avoid any harm or interference with other spacecraft.
Wave farewell to Gaia
During the technology tests Gaia's orientation will be changed, meaning it will temporarily become several magnitudes brighter, making observations through small telescopes a lot easier (it won't be visible to the naked eye). A guide to locating Gaia has been set up here, and amateur astronomers are invited to share their observations.
"Gaia will treat us with this final gift as we bid farewell, shining among the stars ahead of its well-earned retirement," concludes Uwe Lammers, Gaia Mission Manager. "It's a moment to celebrate this transformative mission and thank all of the teams for more than a decade of hard work operating Gaia, planning its observations, and ensuring its precious data are returned smoothly to Earth."

random opinion post about celeste difficulty namings
i have come to a realization that this is MY blog so i can write about whatever i want. insert an evil and mischievous grin
In Modding communities, finding a working system to classify the difficulty of mods is something pretty important, and the celeste community sticks to a handful of names for substantial difficulty stepping stones, being Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, and Grandmaster. These five were established by the 2020 Spring Collab, and since then have become the norm. However, as the community ages (holy fuck, its been three years since spring collab??) players naturally get better and mappers naturally feel comfortable making harder stuff. I am now going to discuss why I do not like the names for 99% of the harder stuff :)
obligatory note is that these are all opinions and all in good fun im not gonna explode if someone calls a celeste map astral or anything its just something which lightly ticked me off so hey thats why i write about it
One point which I'll often come back to is the usage cases of the first five difficulties. Beginner, Expert, and Grandmaster are all titles, you can call yourself a Beginner at Celeste mods, in the same way a pro chess player could call themselves a chess Grandmaster. These are subtle, but in my eyes help establish and ground the difficulty names, in my eyes if you told someone "I'm a celeste expert!" versus "I'm a celeste grandmaster!" they could probably understand grandmaster as being better, due to it's usage in other mediums. As for Intermediate and Advanced, these are words just defining skill levels. The important part though is that these have a precedent of being used and having meaning, look up advanced or intermediate on YouTube, and you'll find a lot of educational videos on things like "Advanced English Learning Practice" or "25 phrases every Intermediate English speaker must know", so on. Now for the specific GM+1 Names I don't like: Celestial, Astral, and/or Stellar: These ones I see a lot, and they feel like very weird cases. All of these are... Not skill titles! But instead words used to describe space????? When I hear "Astral Celeste Maps", the first thing that would come to mind (especially if this was my first time hearing the term) was maps relating to or themed after space, but nope! they're instead used for really really hard celeste maps. These are somewhat titles (calling yourself an astral just makes me think of a sci-fi movie), but their titles aren't for skill levels in any way, Looking up "Celestial Difficulty" on YouTube won't net you any other communities or the like which use these as difficulty markers. Maybe one community here or there use them but I doubt they are nearly as prominent as "Grandmaster" for example. Virtuoso: This one's better, although I'm still not a fan. Virtuoso is defined as someone who excels in the technique of an art, in particular a form being in the sciences or arts, also typically used in musical cases. This is a good start, and writing this has made me like the term slightly more knowing its definition, but it still falls under an arbitrary line in my eyes. What defines Virtuoso as being harder then Grandmaster? From Beginner up to Expert, I feel like the definitions of the words naturally place them in that order of difficulty. Grandmaster can be seen as arbitrary yes, but it's already been established so in my opinion there isn't all too much you can do. If you wanna hold a campaign to remove all usage of the term 'grandmaster' from celeste modding so there are more natural stepping stones from beyond that then be my guest. To get to the point, theres nothing in the definition of Virtuoso which places it as harder then Grandmaster. once again my opinion but comparing a status from international competition in a game (Grandmaster) to a word defining skill in an art (Virtuoso) feel arbitrary in my eyes. virtuoso is also goofy in my eyes so i just dont like it because of that ultimately though writing this has made me realize im fine with virtuoso but oh well. also if you knew what the word virtuoso meant without having to look it up i do not believe you are real sorry </3
yeah thats it thats the post i just kinda wanted to 'rant' about Celestial Astral and Virtuoso theyre goofy lets just stick to "Super Grandmaster" thnx, id be interested in reading someone's thoughts on the term virtuoso but otherwise goodbye have a nice night

Helvegen - Kalandra
i love every version of this song i've heard but like. obviously this is The cover.
this one is on the playlist for my space vikings project a great and heavenly tree, so here's a snippet 👇
Hrafn has taken a particular dislike to the astronomer who had joined the crew for this voyage. The last one had been an older man, dark-faced and silver haired, who had a good sense of humor about working with what he called drunk pagans. Hrafn had considered Ahmad to be a friend, nearly an uncle.
The new astronomer is considerably younger and takes him considerably more seriously. Majid also calls his crewmates drunk pagans, but with far less affection, and he speaks a little too often about the absurdity of the crew’s relationship with the axis tree.
Majid had been hired entirely on the grace of the relationship between his uncle and Thorkarl Goði, he had no interest in working with them himself. Hrafn had known Majid’s uncle, Imad, long before he had the displeasure of meeting Majid. He had gone south to Medina al Hisa to study, hoping to take the position Majid now holds. Imad Saqqaf being the foremost scholar of astronomy, Hrafn had spent over a year working to be considered for Imad’s tutelage. Once he had won his place, he had guarded it fiercely. He had been sure that this training, this education, would have him properly considered an astronomer among his own people.
But Majid holds the title, and Hrafn remains a star-mapper. He doubts that Imad even knew that this was the ship Hrafn would be on, he doubts even more that knowing it would have altered Imad’s decision to push his own nephew into the position. Imad Saqqaf stands as the patriarch of his family, and he has his kinsmen to consider well before he spares a thought for some upstart Northman he came to know too well.

Solar System 10 Things: Two Years of Juno at Jupiter
Our Juno mission arrived at the King of Planets in July 2016. The intrepid robotic explorer has been revealing Jupiter's secrets ever since.
Here are 10 historic Juno mission highlights:
Tumblr media
1. Arrival at a Colossus
After an odyssey of almost five years and 1.7 billion miles (2.7 billion kilometers), our Juno spacecraft fired its main engine to enter orbit around Jupiter on July 4, 2016. Juno, with its suite of nine science instruments, was the first spacecraft to orbit the giant planet since the Galileo mission in the 1990s. It would be the first mission to make repeated excursions close to the cloud tops, deep inside the planet’s powerful radiation belts.
Tumblr media
2. Science, Meet Art
Juno carries a color camera called JunoCam. In a remarkable first for a deep space mission, the Juno team reached out to the general public not only to help plan which pictures JunoCam would take, but also to process and enhance the resulting visual data. The results include some of the most beautiful images in the history of space exploration.
Tumblr media
3. A Whole New Jupiter
It didn’t take long for Juno—and the science teams who hungrily consumed the data it sent home—to turn theories about how Jupiter works inside out. Among the early findings: Jupiter's poles are covered in Earth-sized swirling storms that are densely clustered and rubbing together. Jupiter's iconic belts and zones were surprising, with the belt near the equator penetrating far beneath the clouds, and the belts and zones at other latitudes seeming to evolve to other structures below the surface.
youtube
4. The Ultimate Classroom
The Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT) project, a collaboration among NASA, JPL and the Lewis Center for Educational Research, lets students do real science with a large radio telescope. GAVRT data includes Jupiter observations relevant to Juno, and Juno scientists collaborate with the students and their teachers.
Tumblr media
5. Spotting the Spot
Measuring in at 10,159 miles (16,350 kilometers) in width (as of April 3, 2017) Jupiter's Great Red Spot is 1.3 times as wide as Earth. The storm has been monitored since 1830 and has possibly existed for more than 350 years. In modern times, the Great Red Spot has appeared to be shrinking. In July 2017, Juno passed directly over the spot, and JunoCam images revealed a tangle of dark, veinous clouds weaving their way through a massive crimson oval.
“For hundreds of years scientists have been observing, wondering and theorizing about Jupiter’s Great Red Spot,” said Scott Bolton, Juno principal investigator from the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. “Now we have the best pictures ever of this iconic storm. It will take us some time to analyze all the data from not only JunoCam, but Juno’s eight science instruments, to shed some new light on the past, present and future of the Great Red Spot.”
Tumblr media
6. Beauty Runs Deep
Data collected by the Juno spacecraft during its first pass over Jupiter's Great Red Spot in July 2017 indicate that this iconic feature penetrates well below the clouds. The solar system's most famous storm appears to have roots that penetrate about 200 miles (300 kilometers) into the planet's atmosphere.
Tumblr media
7. Powerful Auroras, Powerful Mysteries
Scientists on the Juno mission observed massive amounts of energy swirling over Jupiter’s polar regions that contribute to the giant planet’s powerful auroras – only not in ways the researchers expected. Examining data collected by the ultraviolet spectrograph and energetic-particle detector instruments aboard Juno, scientists observed signatures of powerful electric potentials, aligned with Jupiter’s magnetic field, that accelerate electrons toward the Jovian atmosphere at energies up to 400,000 electron volts. This is 10 to 30 times higher than the largest such auroral potentials observed at Earth.
Jupiter has the most powerful auroras in the solar system, so the team was not surprised that electric potentials play a role in their generation. What puzzled the researchers is that despite the magnitudes of these potentials at Jupiter, they are observed only sometimes and are not the source of the most intense auroras, as they are at Earth.
youtube
8. Heat from Within
Juno scientists shared a 3D infrared movie depicting densely packed cyclones and anticyclones that permeate the planet’s polar regions, and the first detailed view of a dynamo, or engine, powering the magnetic field for any planet beyond Earth (video above). Juno mission scientists took data collected by the spacecraft’s Jovian InfraRed Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) instrument and generated a 3D fly-around of the Jovian world’s north pole.
Imaging in the infrared part of the spectrum, JIRAM captures light emerging from deep inside Jupiter equally well, night or day. The instrument probes the weather layer down to 30 to 45 miles (50 to 70 kilometers) below Jupiter's cloud tops.
Tumblr media
9. A Highly Charged Atmosphere
Powerful bolts of lightning light up Jupiter’s clouds. In some ways its lightning is just like what we’re used to on Earth. In other ways,it’s very different. For example, most of Earth’s lightning strikes near the equator; on Jupiter, it’s mostly around the poles.
Tumblr media
10. Extra Innings
In June, we approved an update to Juno’s science operations until July 2021. This provides for an additional 41 months in orbit around. Juno is in 53-day orbits rather than 14-day orbits as initially planned because of a concern about valves on the spacecraft’s fuel system. This longer orbit means that it will take more time to collect the needed science data, but an independent panel of experts confirmed that Juno is on track to achieve its science objectives and is already returning spectacular results. The spacecraft and all its instruments are healthy and operating nominally.

Earlier I was talking to people about how if people are going to use Giant Weapons/Hitboxes, Giant Apples, Rainbow Cubes, and Green Screen blocks to cheat in Ranked Match Netplay in Soul Calibur VI, I figured it was only fair game for Ivy to use command throw Macros.
Out of sheer curiosity I decided to mess around in Input Mapper and see if it was even possible to make a macro out of Calamity Symphony.
It actually took me a long time to figure out how to set it up, because the coding is based on press and release timings and there is no actual “diagonal input”.
And even after all the testing I did, the Macro only has maybe a 30-40% chance of firing properly because of how fast the inputs have to be made for the Fast-Input version (.0001th of a second per directional delay).  And you have to be in neutral to execute the Macro.
It does 90 damage, 92 damage during Soul Charge, about 10 points more damage than the regular version or even just using Ivy’s Critical Edge which is lots safer.
Not only that but it’s Throw-techable besides. ORZ  You’re better off using Summon Suffering as a macro, lol
It was still fun, and I learned a lot about Macros.  Not that I have any plans using these in netplay (they hardly work in offline matches unless I’m really lucky).
Well, I hope this educates some of you on how Macros work, even a little.

thank you for proving my point that you guys are trying to erase our identity :) ! and I suggest educating yourself a little bit before making a fool out of you
there's this good post by breton mapper on instagram about this oppression shown by the persecution of the language, here's two of the slides :

also one google search without going further than the first results and you can have for example two articles (in french) about how bretons are even genetically different from the rest of france : first , second , or even just the wikipedia page about bretons (in english but also available in french) showing, with other scientific websites how bretons are classified as an ethnic group. (and in the wikipedia page you can even see how little information there is from before christianisation)
I doubt you'll read all that but again, thank you for proving my point, you guys despise us and we despise you back

What Is Data Mapping and What Are the Best Techniques and Tools?
Tumblr media
You don't want to waste time assuming what a prospect or customer wants and needs
From your company, or how they'll react to a marketing campaign or strategy you're planning.
Instead, you may use the data-driven marketing process to make informed decisions based on real data,
ensuring that your marketing activities are relevant to prospects' and customers' interests and actions.
You may now be considering the reality that your company has a significant volume of complex data scattered
Across numerous sources; here is where data mapping comes in handy.
Data Mapping
Data mapping is an important aspect of data management and integration.
That's because data mapping ensures that you're looking at and considering all of your data appropriately
In other words, data mapping is what allows you to combine data from many sources.
We'll go through what data mapping is, why it's useful, data mapping strategies,
and data mapping tools in greater detail in this blog article.
What is data mapping?
Data mapping is the process of connecting data fields or elements from one or more sources
To their corresponding data fields in another source or system.
It's how you connect data models from disparate sources or systems.
Data mapping software and solutions match data fields from one data source to another automatically.
Data mapping is a technique for organizing, distilling, analyzing, and comprehending
large amounts of data from multiple sources to develop conclusions and insights.
Why is data mapping useful?
Here are a few additional reasons why data mapping is both beneficial and essential:
Create data warehouses and easily integrate, transform, and move data.
Create direct connections between your data from various sources at the same time.
Ensure that your data is of high quality and accuracy (data mapping tools can automatically detect discrepancies and inaccurate data).
Easily and quickly identify real-time trends and share data reports with team members.
Make sure you're getting the most out of your data and putting your findings to good use.
Use data mapping tools to make the process of code-free data mapping easier (and more automated).
Data Mapping Examples
Amazon, for example, may utilize data mapping to precisely target you.
They do so by analyzing your surfing behavior, reviews, purchase history, and time spent on each page.
They can then pull data from other sources, such as demographic data, and tie it to it.
Amazon has the required information to target you with specific products and customize
your shopping experience in a variety of ways by combining these types of data sources (e.g. based on challenges you
may be facing, geographic location, experience level, interests, education, nationality, age, and more).
Consider another data mapping scenario: you work for a television network,
and you want to organize the network's TV shows, actors who appear on the network,
and actors inside a show that appears on the network.
Data exchange between the three sources
Data Mapping Techniques
Manual mapping, semi-automated mapping, and automated mapping are
the three basic strategies used in data mapping.
Let's go over what each of these methods entails.
1. Manual Data Mapping
Professional coders and data mappers are required for manual data mapping;
IT will code and map your data sources.
Although this is a difficult task that requires professional assistance,
it gives you complete control and customization over your maps.
2. Semi-automated Data Mapping
Semi-automated data mapping (also known as schema mapping)
necessitates some coding expertise and means that your team will alternate between
manual and automated data mapping methods (hence the name of this technique).
Data mapping software generates a link between the data sources,
which is then reviewed by an IT professional, who makes manual edits as needed.
3. Automated Data Mapping
If you aren't have access to a coder, automated data mapping means
that a tool will take care of all parts of the data mapping procedure for you.
Drag-and-drop mapping is common with this type of software.
All you have to do now is learn how to use the tool (and pay for it).
Let's take a look at some of your alternatives for data mapping solutions
that will automate the process for you.
Data Mapping Tools
The process of data mapping, which includes visualizing and interpreting your data,
is made easier using data mapping tools and software.
You don't need to know how to code to utilize them, and they often include a drag-and-drop user interface (UI)
that you may use on your team regardless of your technical knowledge.
Many data mapping programs can also assist you with data transfer and other data management chores.
Bloomi
Bloom, which is owned by Dell, is an iPaaS solution that links cloud and on-premise data and applications. It is cloud-native and scalable.
Create cloud-based integrations, or Atoms, as the program calls them.
Then you may start exchanging data between your on-premises apps and the cloud.
The data mapping feature in Bloomi converts electronic data exchange (EDI) for you.
The tool offers a drag-and-drop UI that makes data mapping simple, as well as a connector library that allows you to set up integrations rapidly.
Tableau
Tableau is a data management and data mapping application for visual analytics and corporate intelligence.
Whether your data is stored in spreadsheets, Apache Hadoop, databases,
the cloud, or elsewhere, the platform lets you connect and see it in seconds without writing any code.
Tableau updates your most recent data regularly (on a schedule that you can adjust).
The drag-and-drop interface is simple to use, and smart dashboards make data visualization simple.
Finally, for easy alignment and access, you may share your data maps and dashboards with your team through the mobile device.
Astera
Astera is an enterprise data management software that converts, maps,
and validates data structures for you without requiring you to write code.
You can build, debug, and manage complicated data integration jobs with the tool's drag-and-drop capability.
SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2 are just a few of the database providers that Astera can connect to natively.
There are built-in data cleansing, data profiling, and data quality tools to ensure your data is of
the best quality, and there are built-in transformations to eliminate duplicate records,
complete missing information, and get rid of redundant data to increase accuracy.
Conclusion
Data mapping can help your marketing team and your company as a whole get the most out of your data.
It also assists you in maintaining high-quality data and automating data integration,
transfer, migration, and other procedures.
To get started with data mapping on your team, decide which technique you'll use and whether you'll require a tool.
You can even connect with Nummero, the top digital marketing agency in Bangalore.

Feminist urban mapping
*It’s certainly possible to make these; the interesting part would be if women actually used them.
https://www.citylab.com/equity/2018/03/who-maps-the-world/555272/
(...)
When it comes to increasing access to health services, safety, and education—things women in many developing countries disproportionately lack—equitable cartographic representation matters. It’s the people who make the map who shape what shows up. On OMS, buildings aren’t just identified as buildings; they’re “tagged” with specifics according to mappers’ and editors’ preferences. “If two to five percent of our mappers are women, that means only a subset of that get[s] to decide what tags are important, and what tags get our attention,” said Levine.
Sports arenas? Lots of those. Strip clubs? Cities contain multitudes. Bars? More than one could possibly comprehend.
Meanwhile, childcare centers, health clinics, abortion clinics, and specialty clinics that deal with women’s health are vastly underrepresented. In 2011, the OSM community rejected an appeal to add the “childcare” tag at all. It was finally approved in 2013, and in the time since, it’s been used more than 12,000 times.
Doctors have been tagged more than 80,000 times, while healthcare facilities that specialize in abortion have been tagged only 10; gynecology, near 1,500; midwife, 233, fertility clinics, none. Only one building has been tagged as a domestic violence facility, and 15 as a gender-based violence facility. That’s not because these facilities don’t exist—it’s because the men mapping them don’t know they do, or don’t care enough to notice.
In 2011, the OSM community rejected an appeal to add the “childcare” tag at all. It was finally approved in 2013, and in the time since, it’s been used more than 12,000 times.
So much of the importance of mapping is about navigating the world safely. For women, especially women in less developed countries, that safety is harder to secure. “If we tag something as a public toilet, does that mean it has facilities for women? Does it mean the facilities are safe?” asked Levine. “When we’re tagging specifically, ‘This is a female toilet,’ that means somebody has gone in and said, ‘This is accessible to me.’ When women aren’t doing the tagging, we just get the toilet tag.”
“Women’s geography,” Price tells her students, is made up of more than bridges and tunnels. It’s shaped by asking things like: Where on the map do you feel safe? How would you walk from A to B in the city without having to look over your shoulder? It’s hard to map these intangibles—but not impossible....

Whether you're taking the first step towards school or passing out of the college, your life can be a total mess including assignments, surprise tests, homework, examinations, attendance and so on. All you do is wake up early, go to school and come back. That becomes your routine cutting out the quality time to spend with your family and friends. How disheartening is that? With such a busy schedule and a massive number of deadlines to fulfill, it becomes quite challenging to keep track of homework or anything that has to be submitted on the next day. In such circumstances, a homework planner or organizer could be reliable to oversee and update you regarding the assignments, homework and other deadlines. Of course, it's a daunting task to look out for a suitable homework planner who can assist you with your regular tasks.
Top 5 Homework Planner Apps for College Students
Because it is a tedious job, we have come up with the best homework planner apps for students that will help them to do their tasks without any hassle:
1. School Planner
School planner is a full-scale homework planner app that is designed mainly to pay attention to students so that they are well focussed about their career. This app has a pile of features ranging from simple features to ones that you can think of. Besides your homework and timetable, school planner app assists you to keep track of your attendance. You can also add your teachers' contacts on the list, combine recorded lectures which could be beneficial during exams and add multiple planners too. Initially, it is a tedious job to use this app as you have to enter all your details in a form. In addition to your details, you must enter your teacher's details, timetable, and other college details. But once that's done, you're good to go! The app also supports backing up all the data that you feed in via Google drive, calendar, etc. This app does not fail to give you weekly reports, give reminders on the day of submission of assignments, attach snapshots to any reminders. Although the school planner offers a lot of features, it has the best performance with a beautiful framework. In case of your research paper you can use Edusson at affordable pricing.
2. Istudiez pro
Istudiez pro is yet another student-friendly homework planner app and probably the oldest app when compared to all of the mentioned apps. Like school planner, this app also offers a wide range of features including grading, attendance and subject wise organization of activities. It is way easier to set up when compared to a school planner. But the prominent feature in studies pro is that it is integrated with Google Calendar which gives you all the details like holidays, exam schedule, daily routine and so on. Not just that, it is also supported in all operating platforms like iOS, Mac, and windows. All the apps sync well and therefore you can operate this homework planner anywhere anytime on your laptop.
3. My study life
The next homework planner app for college students is My Study Life. The best thing about this app is that it has its web app which makes it unique. The web app can sync well(mostly on Android) therefore making your data accessible from any remote location using your device. Make sure that you've got a web browser installed in your device. This is a goal-oriented app and keeps reminding you about how much is completed and how much is left to achieve the goal. In addition to that, the calendar feature keeps track of all the important dates, it could be deadlines or project submission dates. The only con of my study life is that it is quite lengthy to set up. Once it is correctly done, you're all set!
4. ChalkBoard
One of the smartest homework planner app for students is a chalkboard. It is pretty quick regarding its features and subject wise allocation of teachers on the app. When you open it for the first time, it prompts you to fill the name and subjects of all your teachers along with the timetable. Cool, isn't it? Although the setup process is a tedious job, it is entirely reliable and smooth. The amazing part is you don't have to memorize your timetable as you can see the upcoming classes on the home screen. Not just that, you can also find pending assignments and other tasks on the screen making your job way too easy. Features like these make this app stand out when compared to other homework organizer apps and gives you a great overall experience. This homework planner app would have been much more superior if it had a calendar feature in it.
5. Egenda
It's quite easy to set up Egenda when compared to others. All you need to do is, add the subjects and classes that you have. Once that is done, you have the choice of adding any homework, deadline, project or test. The pending tasks can be seen in the form of cards and have to be swiped away once it's completed. The best part about this homework planner app is that it keeps you updated, could be regarding the upcoming assignments, tasks or competitions. This will help you plan ahead and complete the job on time. Unfortunately, the app doesn't have a timetable feature. But in its latest update, you will find a calendar that can assist you in keeping track of dates. Backup option not available in this app, therefore data can't be recovered once you lose it.
Final Words
So these were some of the coolest homework planner apps exclusively for career-oriented students who want their tasks to be completed on time and who do not wish to struggle till the last minute to meet the goal. We genuinely understand your problem and these apps are going to be of great use to you!
