i am not really a collector when it comes to any other series but for pokemon i NEED it all physically and legitimate. it's my worst desire. i want to own everything necessary to eventually have a living pokedex in every game from gens 1 -> 6. i am actually not too far from this atm, i own red and blue, sapphire, colosseum + bonus disk, diamond, soul silver, black 2, X and Y, omega ruby and alpha sapphire, AND sun / moon so i could i think do gen 7 as well if i wanted.? idk for sure if you NEED usum but that would be so far in the future for me.
so i'm missing like...... gold and silver (though with how buggy gen 2 is i COULD probably get away with just owning one, since glitches would be necessary for mew and celebi regardless), emerald, leaf green, XD, platinum, presumably pearl as well? heart gold (but i know someone who owns it for version exclusives there), and i think you'd only need white 2 for the version exclusives there? all in all that's like, a couple of thousand dollars, which i think i will be able to spend over the course of my life, eventually. i want more of the spinoffs too like pokemon ranch and that's not even getting into the N64 stuff but. eventually i WILL have it all. i Have to.

Ooc post, but. I've been seeing polls both on and off of Tumblr about "what your first Pokemon game was". And that's a valid question, because in many cases, that's all she wrote. That's the end-all, be-all of when you got invested into the franchise.
But what about those that it took a game or two? Or enjoyed the game, but didn't get truly hooked or invested in the fandom properly, like me? So I'm gonna ask a different question.
As an example, I answered Gen 3 despite STARTING with Gen 2. I played Gold first, went back and played Yellow, but I wasn't truly invested in the series as a kid until Emerald was being released. So I bought Sapphire, gave that a try, and that was when I was genuinely "hooked". That "Aha!" moment where the series caught me.

welcome to route 113!
This is my new blog for documenting my pokemon journeys.
When looking through the save files of my games recently, I realized how many adventures I'd left in the lurch to pursue life. I want to return to these games and finish the adventures, leaving behind unique stories in each one.
Come along! Your very own adventure is about to unfold.
I will be tagging adventures under a tag for each game I own, which will be linked to their name on this list.

Hi 👋 Bradley here. I created this tumblr to document my Pokémon adventures. Let this post be a little introduction of sorts. As of this post I have already played all gen 1,2 and 3 games. I created a living dex for gen 1 and 2. As you might know when gen 3 came out on the Gameboy Advance you couldn’t move your gen 1 & 2 Pokémon to gen 3. So I had to start my living dex all over when I started Fire Red & Leaf Green. Lucky for me tho I did play the gen 1 & 2 games on the 3Ds. So I transported my gen 1 & 2 living dex to Pokemon bank. I still haven’t moved them to home yet because I am waiting till I get to gen 6 so I can get some ribbons on some Pokémon. I beat Pokémon crystal in 2021 so I think I completed my gen 1 & 2 living dex around then. I don’t know exactly when I beat Fire Red. It could of been right after I beat Crystal or when I beat Leaf Green. So either 2021 or 2022. I beat Sapphire, Ruby, Leaf Green, Emerald and Gale of Darkness XD, Pokémon Violet and Pokémon Scarlet in 2022. This year in 2023 I beat Colosseum and got Ho-Oh.
I remember when Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl came out and I was trying to beat Brilliant Diamond when the Pokémon company announced they where going to shut down the eshop on the 3Ds. So I stopped playing Brilliant Diamond and went straight back to gen 3. In a panic and fear of losing all my Pokémon I played through all the gen 3 stories. As of this post I have a gen 1 & 2 living dex minus Mew & Celebi. I’m half way through gen 3. I am on Slaking at the moment. Now I know Pokémon Bank is free. I am just worried for how long will bank continue to work? One day they can decide to shut it down like they did the eshop. I took a pause on my gen 3 living dex for now. Because the new DLC came out for Scarlet & Violet. I beat the Kitakami DLC for Scarlet. I just need to finish the Pokédex. I also need to play the DLC on Violet. Before Scarlet and Violet came out I was trying to finish my sword DLC. I got Kubfu that is now Urshifu. After I beat the scarlet DLC my friend wanted me to evolve his glarian Slowpokes he caught from Pokémon Go to glarian slowbro and glarian slowking. I was able to evolve one of his glarian slowpoke to glarian slowbro. But I had to start crown tundra to evolve his other glarian slowpoke to glarian slowking. Which I did not to long ago. I saved at Calyrex and have yet to catch him.
With Detective Pikachu Returns coming out this Friday
I been playing the first one for the first time and I’m currently on chapter 5. I hope I can beat it by the time it arrives at my doorstep.
Tonight I am playing Pokémon Scarlet. I found a shiny Grubbin in an outbreak. I evolved it to Charjabug and I am ev training it for the 7 star Hisuian Decidueye raid that is suppose to happen soon. My favorite twitch Streamer PKMNCast made a sweet chargabug raid build that I’m copying.
Buy ya I am currently doing 3 projects right now.
1.) Trying to beat Detective Pikachu
And once I do I will be playing the sequel.
2.) Then after that I might finish the sword and shield DLC Crown Tundra
3.) Then Finish my Gen 3 living dex minus the ones that are unobtainable of course.
Now I would like to share with you what games I have played and what games I haven’t
Pokémon Games I Played But Haven’t complete The Pokédex
Pokémon Diamond
Pokémon X (the series that got me back into Pokémon)
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
Pokémon Sword (Minus the Crown Tundra)
Pokémon Legends Arceus (Minus the side quests)
Pokémon Games I Beat and Completed the Pokédex
Pokémon Blue
Pokémon Red
Pokémon Yellow
Pokémon Gold
Pokémon Silver
Pokémon Crystal
Pokémon Colosseum
Pokémon Gale of Darkness
Pokémon Sun & Moon
Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee & Pikachu
Pokémon Games I Haven’t Opened Or Played Yet
Pokémon Pearl
Pokémon Platinum
Pokémon Black 2
Pokémon Omega Ruby
Pokémon X
Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon
Pokémon Games I Haven’t Played But Bought Used
Pokémon Heart Gold (used)
Pokémon Soul Silver (used)
Pokémon Black (used)
Pokémon White (used)
Pokémon White 2 (used) Funny thing about this one is when Pokémon X came out I wanted Rattata so bad because I had one in my blue version. I remember when I was a kid the kids in elementary said Rattata sucked. So I caught one and put it in the daycare and when I beat the whole game I came back for it. I can’t remember if it was level 100 or I trained it a little to get it to 100. But anyway I ended up beating the whole elite 4 with it. So I bought a used copy at GameStop cause I was told you can get Rattata in it. I didn’t even start a new game. I continued on Daniel’s save and looked up on YouTube where you could catch one and the first one I saw I caught with a master ball.
Pokémon Games I Played For an Hour or More
Pokémon Shield
Pokémon Shining Pearl (Played for a little while)
New Pokémon Snap (Played for 5 hours or more)
I recently bought my friend a Switch Light with a micro SD Card. I also bought him Pokémon Violet, Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, Pokémon Sword, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Legends Arceus. It doesn’t seem like he’s into it but whatever. Whenever he wants to play will play. I’ll just have to journey this journey alone.
If I could go back in time I would tell that kid who told me Pokémon isn’t cool anymore that he’s not cool anymore and continue playing Pokémon.

If you had to recommend a starter pokemon game for someone who has never played a single pokemon game, nor watched the anime, or owned the cards ... which would you pick?
just for context really quickly, when i say "gen [x]" i am referring to the sets of games that all came out at around the same time and are capable of communicating with eachother directly without transfers.
gen 1 = pokemon red and green (originals), red and blue (international releases), and yellow (third version) gen 2 = pokemon gold and silver (originals) and crystal (definitive edition) gen 3 = pokemon ruby and sapphire (originals) and emerald (definitive edition), pokemon fire red and leaf green (gen 1 remakes) gen 4 = pokemon diamond and pearl (originals) and platinum (definitive edition), pokemon heart gold and soul silver (gen 2 remakes) gen 5 = pokemon black and white (originals), pokemon black 2 and white 2 (sequels) (no pokemon gray) gen 6 = pokemon x and y (originals), pokemon omega ruby and alpha sapphire (gen 3 remakes) gen 7 = pokemon sun and moon (originals), pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon (remakes)
i would say pokemon black / white because to me they feel like the pokemon gen 1 of "modern" pokemon to me. they feature an entirely original set of 156 pokemon without any of the ones from prior games available until the postgame so it's kind of like a fresh start for the series almost?? which i think would make it good for someone just picking the series up for the first time because in my opinion it kind of feels like a second attempt at a first instalment
i also think that they're really immersive games in general. the music is really well done (they have different tracks for each in-game season which is really cute) and since they're like.. the 3rd set of games made for the DS i feel like like were just able to make it look really good graphically.
i also feel like it just has a really strong story compared to some other pokemon games like character-wise. the "rival" characters are really really cute and i find them just so endearing. you also get to see N throughout the whole story and he's probably one of the most popular pokemon characters of all time LOL
i recommend black and white over black2 / white2 only because. as a first game the original black and white aren't sequels LMAO. even though black2 and white2 feature more pokemon and some quality of life improvements i feel like they would be better played as sequels...
otherwise i would probably recommend like... pokemon omega ruby / alpha sapphire? the gen 3 games are really solid and while i would normally recommend emerald as the definitive edition over the remakes there's a lot of features in gen 6 that i really love that i feel make up for the story differences (alongside it adding some plot stuff absent in the original games? but then again that stuff doesn't make a huge amount os sense without playing x and y so idk..) you can pet your pokemon and play minigames with them, there's way more pokemon available, a lot of mechanics are way more transparent, the day/night cycle is visible (in the original gen 3 games you could set the in-game clock but the overworld wouldn't change appearance) etc.
also pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon are apparently really good. i haven't played them but i heard that they have like an extended storyline and additional features compared to sun and moon which seem to be strong games on their own from what i've played?
and pokemon platinum.... gen 4 games have probably the best music in the series and the plot is kind of grand which makes it fun to play. it is the definitive version of the gen 4 games and is treated as wildly better in most circles than the original diamond and pearl which is why i wouldn't recommend the switch diamond and pearl remakes over them (i only talked about gb -> 3ds games anyways but yknow). pokemon platinum can be played independently of any other games in the series but the caveat for me is that it introduces a lot of cool pokemon as evolutions to previous ones that are just really difficult to get 😔 beautiful games still
