Episode 208: The Entrance to the Maze-The Anger of the Colossus

Mouri, Ran, and Conan are invited to a village to publicize their colossal goddess statue tourist development. There’s a creepy old lady there, who says the goddess will curse the tourist production team because she doesn’t like that they dug a giant tunnel through her dress. The president of the team is really cranky and scary looking, and mean in every way. He has a daughter who arrives with her hyena. Hyena has spiky orange hair and sunglasses. The president also has a son, who he coordinated a charade with which would both mock the goddess’s curse, and completely destroy the reputation of a 'completely innocent newspaper company.' The plan was really complicated and involved the making of a wax doll with a knife stabbed through its heart, which the son apparently asked a company to make for him, and they did it no questions asked. Basically, while taking a gondola ride through the tunnel, suddenly the lights go out, and creepy Buddhist sutra chanting starts playing the background. When they emerge from the tunnel, it’s supposed to appear as if the president has vanished, so that they can see a wax dummy of him dead on the goddess’s hand. What really happens is, when the lights go out, the president hides in a secret compartment, jumps off the gondola, and runs to the goddess’s hand before everyone else. His plan was to throw the wax dummy off the cliff into the incinerator in the woods below, and then meet everyone else, laughing about how stupid the curse was, and how it didn’t even work. However, things get a little complicated when the president’s secretary decides to actually kill him. Her brother was part of the construction team for the tourist development, and was buried alive some years ago. The president paid off the entire family to keep the story a secret, in order to not damage his reputation, so the secretary took revenge.
