Hare’s-tail cottongrass looks very cotton-like, as the name suggests. It is native to Eurasia and North America and grows in bogs and other acidic wetlands.
According to Wikipedia, the region in which this tussock cottongrass, as it is also known as, is called the Holarctic Kingdom or Boreal Kingdom, which sounds really cool. It is the floristic kingdom that includes the temperate to Arctic parts of Eurasia and North America. Its flora is inherited from the ancient supercontinent Laurasia, but as the Arctic part of this area were glaciated during the Pleistocene (commonly referred to as the Ice Age), its flora is still very young. Many species in Eurasia and North America are closely related despite being separated by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Bering Strait on the other, and some species grow on both continents.
