Je ne l'ai pas accompagné à son décès. Honte sur moi. Cette femme, cette tante. Trop maquillée. Presque queer. Une femme qui est un homme travestie. Une femme forte qui clope et qui piche et se farde de couleurs criardes. Une femme battue. Une femme battante. Et dernière le personnage quasi outrancier, une terrible solitude. Elle aimait se coucher tard et dormir tard. Les vieux se lèvent tôt. Elle faisait la grasse matinée. Elle faisait du café bon et noir. Elle m'a appris que changer les meubles de place pouvait donner l'illusion d'avoir un nouveau chez soi. Elle m'a sauvé la vie parce qu'elle avait compris qu'aimer la vie c'est n'en répondre qu'à ses envies. Elle m'a appris à aimer les dimanches soirs. Quand il est tard et qu'on tire sur l'élastique pour être sûr de ne pas regretter la bêtise du lundi. Elle m'a appris à aimer le lundi quand j'étais malade. Les émissions de l'après midi étaient distrayantes de culture. Elles étaient adultes. Je détestais l'enfance qui ne faisait que me prouver l'écart entre le fantasme et la réalité. Elle est partie. En fumée. La cigarette après l'amour. Elle aimait l'humour cochon. Elle aimait danser. Elle aimait aimer. Elle n'était plus qu'une ombre. Un fantôme qui hurle en silence aux vivants qu'elle ne veut pas de ce mutisme. Privée de sa voix. De son bagoue. Blue bayou. Lèvres lippues et traits négre epais. Monsieur Piche rentre tous les soirs à la même heure. Il lance le même album (Placebo - Without you I'm nothing) et rythme la cuisson de ses frites en fonction. Il prépare les patates sur les deux premiers morceaux. Il débute la première cuisson à la fin de l'intro de You don't care about us. Il la termine au dernier refrain de Ask for answers. La deuxième cuisson dure exactement le temps de Every you every me. Plus qu'à saler et à servir. Toujours sur My sweet Prince.

Et tous les soirs de semaine comme ça. Il décline les pots de départ, il va à la piscine plutôt pendant sa pause-déjeuner, et au cinéma seulement le weekend.

Mais là, ce soir, alors qu'il découpe les patates pile à temps, ça sonne à la porte. Il s'arrête un instant. Pas question d'ouvrir, mais il va voir à pas feutrés à travers l'œil-de-bœuf. Il aperçoit une silhouette habillée en noir au visage maquillé en blanc. Coup de chaud. Brian Molko ? Le temps de songer à ouvrir, il réalise que ce n'est qu'un enfant déguisé en vampire. Il est rejoint par d'autres, qui vont lui demander des bonbons. Tout va bien, pas besoin d'ouvrir. Il retourne paisiblement à ses frites. Enfin, pas si paisiblement. Il va falloir s'activer s'il veut les cuire suffisamment.

La nuit suivante, il cuisine des frites en rêve. On sonne encore à la porte. Cette fois, c'est bien Brian Molko, rejoint par tout le groupe Placebo, et même David Bowie, les Radiohead, et Thomas Fersen. Il hésite mais n'ouvre pas, pour ne pas louper l'heure de la deuxième cuisson. Il ne peut pas rater ses frites. Et il s'en veut. Il est si frustré, si énervé contre lui-même qu'il se réveille en sursaut.

Elvelangs i Phnom Penh

Langsetter Tonle Sap-elva fra nedenfor kvelds-/nattmarkedet i Phnom Penh forbi det kongelige palasset til fergeleiet ved Kampong Chamlong er det en tre kilometer lang elvepromenade. Sisowath Quay er best om morgenen, på grunn av temperaturen, og på ettermiddag og kveld. Både på grunn av temperatur og folkeliv.

Foran det kongelige palasset møtes Tonle Sap-elva med Mekong-floden, og Mekong fortsetter sørover derfra.

Solbriller og solkrem

På dagtid, spesielt i den tørre årstida fra desember til juni er det veldig varmt. Og den lyse belegningen samt de hvite byggene krever gode solbriller og hyppig påføring av solkrem.

Det er lettere de dagene det er litt urolig vær i områdene rundt. Da er det en frisk bris som gjør vandring her svalere.

Om morgenen er det et sted for en rolig promenering mens man hører byen våkne til liv og elva er fyllt opp av nyttetrafikk.

Om ettermiddag og kveld er det et sted der lokale, internasjonale og turister myldrer, i mangel av et bedre ord. Langsetter promenaden er et det stort utvalg av restauranter, barer og pøbber, og små gateutsalg der det selges snacks og drikkevarer. I noen av de større plassene er det grupper av lokale som bedriver dans, gruppetrening av zumba-typen, og rundt om er det familier med lekende barn, og unge svermende lokale ungdommer.

Og ikke så rent få turister i samme ærend.

Båtliv

Langsetter elva er det også mengder av små og større båter som tilbyr dagskrus langs Tonle Sap og Mekong, solnedgangstur og kveldstur med middag. I sesongen er det også herfra båter som tar dagsreiser langs Tonle Sap elva til innsjøen og Siem Reap.

På plenen foran palasset er det som regel familie- og vennegrupper som har piknik, der det nytes medbrakt mat og drikke. Eller dette kjøpes fra de allestedsnærværende gatematbodene.

Om man ikke vil sette seg i en av utestedene langs elva, er det et stort utvalg av små og store steder i de første kvartalene inn i gamlebyen. Ofte med mer lokal mat og til hyggelige priser.

I nattmarkedet i PP inneholder det sedvanlige utvalget av klær, tilbehør, klokker, bagger og en egen seksjon med gatemat. Prisene på saker og ting er på den akseptable siden, og størrelsene på klær er som regel passende for europeere. Maten er ålreit, men prismessig er det bedre å trekke inn byen nord eller sør for nattmarkedet.

Lenger promenering

Phom Penh er inne i en byggeboom, og lokalmedia melder at dette har tatt seg opp igjen på vei ut av pandemien. Dette innebærer at Elvepromenaden er i ferd med å utvides både nordover mot Chroy Changvar-brua, som er hovedinnfartsåra for hovedveiene nordfra, og sørover langs Koh Pich øya ut mot Mekong-elva.

Men sjarmen, folkelivet og ikke minst fargene vil forhåpentligvis fortsatt være verdt å bruke tiden på.

projet en cours.

Premières recherches d’un projet de court métrage sur la célèbre course automobile du Pikes Speak. J’essaye de m’inspirer pour les personnages des légendaires pilotes du circuit en particulier de Michelle Mouton pour mon personnage principal. Je cherche aussi à me rapprocher du design des voitures de la course reconnaissables à leurs larges ailerons en m’inspirant des voitures iconiques qui ont marqué l’histoire du circuit.

Pich: S’élançant à plus de 250 kilomètres dans un monstre de puissance, Charlie trace sur cette route vers les nuages pour gravir les 19 000 mètres qui la sépare du sommet du Pikes Peak.  Elle doit tout faire pour vaincre son rival détenteur du record actuel du circuit. Prenant tous les risques à quelques centimètres d’une chute qui lui serait fatale. Compressée par le stress, le manque d’oxygène et les 60 degrés dans l’habitacle, son cœur tambourine à plus de 180 battements par minute, arrivera-t-elle à dépasser ses limites pour atteindre la ligne d’arrivée.

Assignment 1: Relationship between development and carbon emissions by country

This post is part of my submission to an online data course. 

As a Geography student, I am interested in the social, economic and environmental development of countries. As a result, the Gapminder dataset fit my interests well. As climate change is a current global crisis, I am interested in finding out more about carbon emissions and specifically the impact of urban development on carbon emissions. I have picked out the following variables to focus on: income per capita, carbon dioxide emissions, oil consumption per capita, residential electricity consumption and urban population. 

My research question is as follows: Using oil consumption per capita and residential electricity consumption per capita as two indicators of urban development, is there an association between the development of a country (using income per capita as a measure) and carbon emissions? 

I conducted a literature review on Google Scholar using the search terms ‘urbanisation’ and ‘carbon emissions’.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the main sources of carbon emissions from 1970 to 2010 are the combustion of fossil fuel and industrial process (2014:6). Research has shown that population growth and economic growth are factors that drive the increase in the demand for energy and energy consumption (Wang et al, 2014; Lean & Smyth, 2010; Sharma, 2011). However, a correlation between urbanisation and carbon emissions does not seem to exist (Abdallh & Abugamos, 2017; Sharma, 2011; Jalil, 2014). Sharma (2011:380) and Jalil (2014) state that urbanisation has a statisicallly insignificant impact on carbon emissions. Abdallh & Abugamos’s research conducted on Middle East North Africa countries have found that the relationship between urbanisation and carbon emissions do not follow the Environmental Kuzmets Curve hypothesis where carbon emissions will first increase and then decrease over time as a country develops (2017:1355). 

From these findings, I hypothesise that there is a positive relationship between income per capita and carbon emissions. As oil consumption per capita and residential electricity consumption per person are contributing factors of carbon emissions, I hypothesise that both oil consumption per capita and residential electricity consumption per person has a positive relationship to carbon emissions.

Le groupe musical la Voix Des Anges, communément appelé VDA règne en maitre sur le Zouglou depuis quelques années. Pratiquant une musique beaucoup plus basée sur l’actualité et les buzz, le duo formé par Jim et Pich s’est parfois retrouvé dans des conflits avec certaines personnalités. C’est le cas avec Makosso et dernièrement Serey Dié. Après un long moment de silence, VDA a été interrogé hier…
