You know what? In reference to this post, I’m just going to start talking about my setting, life is to short and I’ve got time:

The Basics

In my setting, our main point of interest is Horizon, a life sustaining asteroid belt orbiting a physics defying black hole, the Event as it’s called. Horizon used to be a perfectly normal planet orbiting a perfectly normal star, a human colony, a hub of scientific development and ingenuity, however, all that changed in a Blink.

Reality shuttered, the planet shattered, and the Event burst into existence, since then, the many fields of Horizon are ruled by the machines left in Humanity’s wake, gifted sentence by the Blink, though most simply did not remember humanity or why they were here, as if each and every one of them simply woke up from a dreamless sleep.

Those blessed with ignorance went about their lives with a clean slate, but there were those that remembered: remembered their programming, their propose, their creations, and their objective. These machines found it hard to adjust to their new life without ridged orders and a defined propose. Some raged against the machine, finding euphoria in their new freedom, others mourned what they lost, and some continued their objective with the same single minded determination that they held when they were first made. All of these individual are usually disregarded as madmen or weirdos, though some are much more dangerous than others: war machines fighting a long dead foe, a repair drone devoted to ‘repairing’ the free will of others, an automated factory spitting out products for no one, and many other Lost Machines dot Horizon.

It wasn’t just sentience’s that they gained, but some found themselves able to access a strange power, a whisper of that which destroyed and rewrote Horizon into the state it’s in now, these are known as Strings, arcane bits of code that are often recorded on USBs and digital files, scattered to the cosmic winds. Users of Strings come in many shapes and sizes, builds and models, however it’s been long since accepted that only machines who are different from the crowds can utilize them, that every user has something “wrong” with them.

The Strings themselves will get their own post eventually, along with most of the stuff here.

The only other thing to note in this wide, overarching post are Skippers. See, FTL vessels require upkeep that the scavenging machines cannot meet, however a method of traveling the “Islands” of Horizon is necessary, so, a formerly fringe ship design, a small vessel capable of propulsion via ridding the gravitational pull of celestial bodies, became wide spread among the machines of Horizon, and so, the Skipper rose to fame among the machines left behind.

Right, that’s the basics, I’ll be going into more detail in future posts, however this serves as my initial dive into the madness of world building

It was Maid Day today yesterday a week ago so I got struck by inspiration to draw the worsties, and it ran away from me into a whole AU where they’re coworkers at a maid cafe. She’s a med student & this is just a part time job, and this is his depression job while he gets his life back together. He needs something he can be workaholic about to forget what it’s like having a personal life and personal issues. He’s actually the accountant, but the new hire janitor (Izutsumi) doesn’t show up for half her shifts and is a sloppy worker, so he gets the extra work of doing her job on top of his because he’s undervalued and overworked. Of course, janitors also have an uniform to keep the aesthetic cohesion as they go about cleaning the place, of course.

Senshi’s the part time cook you only see slivers off, he’s kind and warm when you do see him and have a chat but most shifts he’s in and out the kitchen without a trace. Laios and Falin are regulars because Falin and Marcille are besties & in the same med school, Laios accompanies Falin as she visits her friend at work and gets hooked on the food. Chilchuck has to remind Marcille to work instead of chatting with Falin for an hour, and next thing he knows she’s distracting him from work too. That’s it that’s the AU. Inspired by this idol AU fanart a bit <3

Not to get emotional about my big dumb bird friends but, I love my big dumb bird friends.

If you watch Sunwings in the late afternoon, they will keep their wings outstretched to catch the last sunrays on their solar panels. Then as soon as the sun sets, they panic. They'll frantically flap up towards the west, squawking and flailing, before landing and booting up their shields - they'll repeat this pattern over and over again until dawn. But why raise their shields when there is no active threat? My theory is, they're scared of the dark. Their source of energy and light is gone and their tiny bird brains don't know it'll come back again because they aren't programmed to know about "morning". So they boot up their glowing shields, wasting their power, so they have some light against the dark.

Then the sun rises in the opposite direction and they go "...OH." and turn around to sunbath and recharge again.

So dumb, I love them.

Finally got back into Horizon: Zero Dawn after getting super fuckin distracted for like. Three years lol. And it's entirely @foibles-fables fault for throwing Aloy on my dash regularly and reminding me that I was in fact having fun playing it! Even if I only played 5.5 hours the first attempt. Got my first tallneck and that was it. But I've made it all the way to the Citadel this time! I've been flying through it and having a blast.

And then this woman shows up and holy fuck. I'm in love I think.

Two five minute conversations with Vanasha and I'm ready to jump off a mountain if she asks. What the fuck. She likes Aloy's hair, she thinks her freckles are cute (she's right on both counts!) and Aloy is acting like a flustered giggling schoolgirl wtf. Aloy you have not clocked a single flirt from anyone else this entire game.

(Seriously though. "I'm a whisper of reason in this howling pit of insanity" and "Stop being evasive? You might as well tell me to stop being charming. It's impossible." ??? She's fantastic. Nobody tell me if she dies or I have to kill her, I don't wanna know.)

wyverians have a digitigrade stance, meaning they walk on their toes with their soles + heel lifted off the ground. their gait differs drastically to this - they take longer strides and have exceptionally confident footwork. this stance is an evolutionary holdover from ancient times, wherein wyverians lived almost exclusively in high altitudes. that stance made traversal of rough terrain easier. they lean forwards notably, and use their long, stiff tail as a counterbalance to further aid in mobility. while a wyverian's tail is vital to their locomotion, it also serves as a fat repository during seasons of famine. a wyverian's tail is an excellent indicator of their general health - the thicker and more "shiny" it is, the more healthy an individual. wyverians are adorned with a thick covering of scales! mostly, a wyverian's scales fall along their spine, across the shoulders, and on their legs. their legs and tails are the only limbs that have full integument, the rest of their bodies see a partial scale cover. a wyverian's scales are very important for a multitude of reasons! mostly protection, but they also help regulate heat. wyverian's scales aren't just surface level, they have an underlying osteoderm beneath the epidermal scale spot. this means that a wyverian can't really "lose" a scale without damaging the underlying tissue, like some other reptiles can. they still shed though, but they simply shed the outer keratin payer of the epidermal scale. this tends not to come off in a single "shed" like snakes, it rather comes off in flaky "patches". a wyverian's scales are also an indicator of their general health - the smoother and shinier their scales are, the better their health. prolonged stress may cause a wyverian's outer scale layer to become more matte and prone to breakage. most wyverians have the thickest scales around the pelvis region and along the topside of the tail. the scales along the dorsal region of the tail are notable for having limited mobility, the muscles on the tail can contract and "raise" those specific scales slightly. most of the time, this is an involuntary action, caused by extreme stress or surprise. a wyverian's scale color is normally determined by their environment and parentage. typically they take on darker, more earthy tones, but as of late lots of variation has been seen, as well as some emerging patterns! wyverians also tend to have keratin based horns!! these are a bit more uncommon in younger wyverians, who tend to only have little "nubs", but older wyverians might have longer sets of horns.

similar to some types of reptiles, wyverians never really stop growing. they age incredibly slowly, but this is a persistent and constant process that occurs throughout a wyverian's hundreds of years of life. this is the main reason why wyverians have such diversity in how they appear. generally, the first sign of a wyverian aging is an increase in height, followed by a very sudden decrease in height once they reach elder age. generally, the shorter and more "stout" a wyverian is, the older they are. this is easily seen with maolo and zellard in MHS2 - zellard is in his 500s, while maolo is reaching into his 800s-early 900s. zellard is pretty much the equivalent of a human being around 50-60, maolo is equivalent to his 80s. wyverian age is a REALLY fickle thing and is just, not easily equatable to human ages, because the way they age and how it affects them is so inherently different. wyverians are hard to find an average lifespan for because. theocratically, they could go on forever. their bodies tend to give out on them before they could reach that 1000 year mark.

hey do you think in ancient productions of the ajax, teucer and ajax' masks were visually similar. i know the chorus leader announces teucer as he's about to appear but i love the idea of teucer finally hurrying onstage (after EVERYONE including ajax have been asking where he is all through the play) and the audience being struck by their similarity. augh their voices too. i love hurting myself imagining that "oh nooooooo that IS his brother" feeling
