What were some examples of the early experiences you had in the past (such as your upbringing), and people in your life who had strongly influenced you to become the articulate and highly-aware ENTJ? Two experiences in my formative years immediately come to mind.

First, I was born in a third-world country and grew up in deep poverty where life expectancy is laughably low and life outcomes are shockingly bad. I’m talking about prostitutes walking the streets, gang members with machetes hacking people in the alleys, rice and water for lunch, cold bucket showers from a well outside, and sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Our family immigrated to America in 1990 when I was 3 years old so we upgraded from being poor in a third-world country to being poor in a first-world country which just meant the gang members swapped their weapons from machetes to guns. I remember violence, all the time, everywhere. Poverty is the first theme and with poverty comes lack of security, lack of safety, lack of stability, and lack of opportunity. Maybe “lacking” is the first theme.

Second, with immigrating to America also came the struggles of adjusting to the culture and customs of a foreign land that hasn’t always been welcoming to immigrants. It meant learning a new language and knowing it better than my parents so I had to step into the parental role and assume a position of responsibility at a young age. It meant navigating challenges that other kids who were born in America couldn’t relate to: being alone with no extended family nearby, stumbling around with communication and integration issues at school, having to be the parent to my parents (translating everything for them, attending meetings with them, reviewing contracts and documents for them, etc.), figuring out the school/grades/college system by myself, etc. The second theme here is outsider.

These two experiences combined, enduring poverty and being an outsider, have influenced the man I am today. They’ve made me highly aware of socioeconomic conditions, race dynamics, the immigrant experience, poverty, cultural quirks, and the systems in place in America that benefit only certain groups of people because I entered the system as an underdog. That’s why I’ve mentored first generation and low-income kids for the past 10 years and why I continue to do so because I know that being successful in this country requires understanding the rules of the systems in place and conquering them. Keep in mind that people can be highly aware of these things without having personally experienced them but someone with my particular MBTI type– a type known to struggle with putting themselves in other people’s shoes– it drove the point home that other people’s circumstances have nuances that couldn’t be dismissed with a simple “just try harder and power through it!” © ExTJs everywhere.

Now obviously you can’t put yourself in these exact types of situations because my life is unique to me and your life is unique to you but my 3 takeaways for you are this:

Struggle and suffering bring growth. You will learn most about yourself when you are pushed to unnatural limits because this is when your strengths will organically emerge. Granted, this isn’t an X-Men movie where you should expose yourself to life-threatening stimuli to activate latent mutant powers. There are 1000000 bumper stickers and stereotypical quotes about this (i.e. “growth is on the other side of fear”, “no pain no gain”)– you get the idea. The obstacles will come naturally and when they do remember that you can get what you want in life, but you may have to compromise on the path or the method to get it. Don’t fear that discomfort and keep your eye on the prize.

You’re unique, but your problems aren’t. You’re a unique human being, sure, but your problems are absolutely not. There’s a high likelihood someone else in the world has gone through the exact same issues whether that’s career confusion, depression, stress about relationships, issues with parents, etc. For that same reason, be easier on yourself knowing that you’re not the first to make these mistakes to fall short of your ideals and you certainly won’t be the last. Seek out people who have gone through the same things, ask for their advice and guidance, and aggressively obtain information because they’ll give you the tools to help change your life and further grow.

Make life happen for you, don’t let life happen to you. Don’t make excuses, don’t feel sorry for yourself, and don’t be a spectator in your own life. It’s important to note that no matter the circumstances you’ve come from or the circumstances that you’re currently in, you can change them over time. The world can seem like an overwhelming and confusing place but it’s actually not that difficult to navigate if you set a north star and get a map. The first thing is easy because as an INFP, you’ll have a good foundation for who you are, what you stand for, and what’s most important to you as a north star– that’s internal. The map will come from interacting with other people, gaining knowledge, and accumulating experience– that’s external.

how does it feel to have all three attachment enneatypes?

It feels like a lot of my posts have a theme of the day, and today that theme is “tritypes are great but essentially only useful if you consider your core and MBTI type first.” 

So for those not in the know, I recently discovered I was a 369 rather than a 351, a minor enough modification, but in truetype land that mean that all three of my types are in the attachment triad or the normative triad, rather than the competency triad. This is supposed to mean that I focus entirely on my environment, usually the people around me, to give me personality, direction, and motivation- which is true in a certain sense, but only in a very specific certain sense. 

See when you look at descriptions of Te-dom 3s and 369s, both of which titles are equally accurate about me, you’ll find two almost opposite descriptions, which essentially boil down to extreme hardass badass and extreme pushover, which are kinda mutually exclusive. This is cause most EXTJ 3s are assumed an 8 fix and most 369s are assumed to be Fe dominants, so both descriptions of me are wrong and I need to apply some critical thought that makes the use of the attachment triad language useless until after I’ve applied 6 and 9 to my very specific outlook. And this process isn’t even a “my type is special and rare” thing, this is universally a thing that has to happen before you say anything meaningful about your tritype or your fixes. 

So taking a look at the question you asked me- what is having all three attachment types like- my 6 fix is a way of dealing with the future developed within the confines of my Te outlook on life and my core fear of being unsuccessful and therefor worthless and core drive to better myself from the outside in, so it’s a lot more focused on protocols, finding definitive proof before taking action, paying attention to common knowledge above all else, and generally taking the point of view that requires the least leaps of faith and questionable logic. This is a very different style of 6 than an INFP 641. My 9 is also developed not only within the confines of EXTJ 3, but also EXTJ 36X, so it’s almost an active decision to be a 9 fix rather than anything inborn or developed by my environment. My Te, taking into account my desire to succeed in the safest possible way, has elected not to take things personally and focus entirely on doing my own thing without coming into conflict with anybody under normal circumstances. 

So as you can see, my core strategies and personality are entirely derived from the environment around me, but through a Te sense of pragmatism and inf Fi impersonability rather than say an Ne sense of changeable identity, or Fe need for belonging, or 9 core need for nothing to happen. In conclusion, this post is useless informationally unless you want to look at the process, which I highly recommend.

How to Find Someone’s MBTI Based Off Their Writing

Just something I’ve been thinking about and I thought I might as well share for anyone interested. I’ve realized: you can tell if the writer is a T or an F, an S or an N, and you can even see differences between Si and Se, Fi and Fe, and all the other functions.

People write what they want to read. People’s preferences are usually determined by their first two functions, so an INFP would be mainly Fi with Ne influences, and an ISFJ would be Si with Fe influences.

Si/Ni: seek an immersive experience. Want to slip into a new world, with a lot of detail to make it feel as real as possible. Drawn to fantasy and any genre with a lot of (forgive the redundancy) detail. (IxxJ’s)

Fe/Fi: want to FEEL something. Want to cry and laugh. Drawn to romance, tragedy, and any emotional writing. (ExFJ’s and IxFP’s)

Ti/Te: want to feed their brains. Enjoy historical, sci/fi, and nonfiction. Might get bored with fiction; their other functions may help them to enjoy it however. (IxTP’s and ExTJ’s)

Si/Se: enjoy concrete, sensory writing. Want to know what everything looks like. Se writes things almost like a movie, while Si is a more intense sensory experience with a lot of description. They get bored and struggle to connect with a piece if they can’t visualize what’s going on. (ISxJ’s and ESxP’s)

Ni/Ne: like abstract, intuitive writing. They want to know what characters are thinking, feeling, planning. Just knowing what something looks like isn’t enough. (INxJ’s and ENxP’s)

Ne: crave new ideas, emphasis on new. Drawn to sci/fi and fantasy. Love things that make them think “What if...?” If the story feels familiar, the Ne user will lose interest pretty fast. They’re sensitive to common patterns; while Ni thrives on cliches, Ne despises them. Star Trek is a great show for Ne: every episode takes them to a new planet. (ENxP’s)

Fi: in the same way Si is more intense than Se, Fi is the most intense emotionally. Their style is usually simple and perhaps plain, but its emotional depth and clarity sucks in readers. It does well with general audiences (especially feelers) but not with critics. I’ve noticed Fi writing is the most popular writing on tumblr.

Famous ex of INFP writing: Stephanie Meyer. There’s a reason her writing was so popular: while her actual style was so/so, her writing was easy to connect with. It’s pure emotions that any F can relate to. (IxFP’s)

Ni: checks for consistency in writing for realism. If something doesn’t ring true, the writing may come off as immature and the Ni user will get bored. Ni/Fe looks for consistent and maturing characterization, and Ni/Te wants consistent logic and plot elements. (INxJ’s)

This also applies to Si, but Si is a lil more focused on sensory details and Ni is a lil more focused on ideas. What might satisfy an Ni user as “real” may do nothing for the Si user, and vice versa.

Ti/Fi: both like to evaluate whether something is morally or logically valid or correct. They both enjoy philosophy to an extent, especially when paired with Ne. They want stories to have themes that suit their strong values. (IxxP’s)

Misc: I think Ne/Se struggle the most to force themselves to write. Their creativity is much better suited for other mediums. Ne can be sporadic and hard to follow, and Se might be overly simplistic and shallow. This comes from their lack of Si/Ni giving their stories consistency and clarity.

 Most books are definitely written by those leading with introverted functions (Ni/Si/Fi/Ti). The best writers learn to pull from their various functions. An Ni writer edits to add in more Se elements, and an Ne writer edits to add in more Si elements, and vice versa. I also think “good writing” over the past few hundred years has been heavily Ni/Si/Ti driven. Poor Fi.

INFJ vs INFP: these are two of the most common I read as an ENFJ. INFJ’s put a higher emphasis on Ni realism, consistency, details. INFP’s kind of take you into a dream world structured perfectly for their angst, but somehow, this dream world feels painfully real. Sometimes, these scenarios can be a little unrealistic, but if you suspend disbelief (as many are willing to do), the reader can experience intense emotion vicariously. Some may find Fi writing unbearably angsty, tragic, and painful.

INFJ’s may force or lose track of emotions. In general, they’re less emotional than Fi doms, but they still seek to put emotion into their writing. INFP’s don’t have this problem as much; Fi gets bored and stops writing if the emotions feel forced. But Fi can also verge on absurdly unrealistic because not enough focus is given to consistency, clarity, or realism. Ni, on the other hand, is so concerned with realistic patterns and characterization that they get bored if their writing stories become too unrealistic. They’re truly opposites.

In the technical aspect, INTJ is actually more emotional than EXTJ and IXTP, just not in the same way as a feeling type.

INTJs having tertiary Fi (Introverted Feeling) is an often overlooked and quite misunderstood fact most tend to get wrong or downright forget in favor of the "noo emooshiooon" narrative, which is a very stupid stereotype.

While they are seen as a cold hearted and monotone invididual capable of tossing their emotions aside in favor of objective logic according to their vision of life, they aren't limited from sensing human feelings and subsequent problems with anxiety, obsessions, lack of motivation, and depression. It all comes down to how they operate and show their emotions to anyone in general, especially to their trust.

For example, an INTJ heavily repressing their emotions could lead them to the opposite of their perception, and might lash out or breakdown in periods of emotional collapse if they keep holding what they are truly feeling, even if they find their emotions as getting in their way; Repressing yourself with cynical quotes like "It is what it is." is going to make things far worse on yourself, and will eventually lead to a point where you cannot hold yourself anymore. That's all signs of a very unhealthy INTJ is we put it as an example, which people tend to see as a normal one if they think of the unemotional stereotype, which again is more fitting to IXTP having inferior Fe, but that's a different topic for now.

Real life examples of potential INTJs favoring the emotional aspect of their lives are artists like Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), and Christopher Nolan (especially on the themes about love in his movie 'Interstellar').

Granted, the emotions of an INTJ are significantly weaker compared to those like INFP, ISFP, INFJ, and feeling types in general, but it's even more ignorant to say they don't exist, because indeed, they do, like every human being in this planet.

I am the futuristic mind and "look for pattern" of the Ni users, but some times i am daydreaming and procrastinator of the Ne user. Please, explain the diferences of the N in the ExTJ. Both Ne and Ni look to the future and seek patterns. And any type can daydream or procrastinate – that has zero to do with Ne itself.

The difference lies in their adaptability.

Picture a car amid many other cards on a highway, driving toward their destination – and all of the sudden, it sees a massive tanker ahead of it slide on the ice, skid sideways, and fall across four lanes of traffic, effectively blocking the only exit that the car can use to get to where it’s going.

The Ni slams on its breaks and skids to a stop. It has to wait.

The Ne slams on its breaks, shifts gears, goes across the ditch, and manages to wind up back on the road on the other side of the oil tanker, but it isn’t going to reach its original destination – it’s fine winding up in the next town instead.

Or, put it into the context of writing a short story.

The Ni does not start writing until the story is fixed in their mind, and all the pieces are in place. Then, they write it all out and the major components of the story do not change through the editing process. Major themes, scenes, conversations, and characters stay largely the same, because all the figuring out was done in the Ni’s mind. They visualized it, and brought it into being.

The Ne starts writing a story with a vague idea of where it’s headed in mind, but revises and innovates as it goes along, sometimes dropping entire characters or plot lines in favor of better ones through the writing process. It may then go back and edit a dozen times, changing scenes around, bringing in new or leaving out old characters, even re-framing dialogue to carry a totally different meaning from what was originally intended.

Why?

Ni seeks clarity of focus and a single destination, and Ne seeks wideness of focus and adaptability. Ne gets bored with what is unchanging. IE, “Dang, I wrote this scene eight months ago and have read it 15 times since and it’s boring me, so I’m going to change it up to keep it interesting.” (Think George Lucas, angering Star Wars fans by “tinkering” with the original films. BUT THE OLD WAY BORED ME, AREN’T YOU BORED??? All fans: … no, you idiot!!! … well, except probably some of the less-sentimental Ne-doms who laughed and said, “That’s awesome.”)

ENTJ: constant and present focus on the far flung future, but struggles to adapt facing challenges where their vision may not come to pass as they imagined it, since their Se is poor. (Se would give them adaptability, but they may struggle to LET GO OF THEIR ORIGINAL VISION - Ni - to chase it.)

ESTJ: prefers what is tried and true and enjoys speculation and futuristic focus, but only as pertains to the situation at hand; may struggle to let go of “how it has been done before” (Si) in order to branch out into “let’s embrace this new reality or way of thinking before everyone else does” (Ne).
