I think Olafur Eliasson had several kilometers of extension cords in his studio in 2004 because he'd been making artworks with lots of lightbulbs, like 360° room for all colours. I think he turned one kilometer of that cable into an edition for employees and friends, which is called 10 meter cable for all colours. They turn up for auction once in a while—like this one, in November 2023 in Denmark—but I like to imagine that some of them are also being used in peoples' homes or wherever, just quietly brightening the place up.
#olafur eliasson#10 meter cable for all colours#extension cord as art#swag as praxis#do you honestly think if you had the auratic power you wouldn't turn a bunch of leftover electrical cable into an art edition? please.#bruun-rasmussen

Unlimited Antenna or Mohu? Best Extension Cable for TV Antenna for You
When setting up your HD TV antenna, choosing the right extension cable can make a significant difference in signal strength and overall performance. Whether you're using an Unlimited Antenna or a Mohu antenna, the quality of your extension cable plays a crucial role in maximizing the reception quality. This article will explore various factors to consider when selecting the best extension cable for your TV antenna, comparing different options that work well with both Unlimited and Mohu antennas.

Why an Extension Cable Matters for TV Antennas
The extension cable you use for your TV antenna has a direct impact on the quality of the signal you receive. A high-quality cable reduces signal loss and ensures a stronger, clearer connection between your antenna and your TV. Without the proper cable, your antenna’s performance can suffer, leading to pixelation, interference, or even a complete loss of signal. Choosing a suitable extension cable is critical, especially if you need to position your antenna far from the TV or near a window for better reception.
What Makes the Best Extension Cable for Antennas?
When looking for the best extension cable for your antenna, several factors should be considered. The cable’s length, material, shielding, and connectors are all crucial elements that can either enhance or hinder your antenna’s performance. A well-shielded, high-quality cable can help maintain a strong and clear signal, while poor-quality cables may result in signal degradation. It’s essential to match the extension cable with your antenna’s specifications to ensure optimal performance.
Choosing the Right Length for Your Extension Cable
The length of the extension cable you choose depends on where you plan to place your antenna in relation to your TV. If you want to mount the antenna on a window or place it closer to a broadcast tower, you'll need a longer cable. However, a longer cable can introduce more signal loss, so it’s important to strike a balance between cable length and signal strength. Shorter cables generally provide better signal quality, but if you need more length, opt for high-quality cables with strong shielding to minimize signal degradation.
Understanding Cable Materials and Signal Quality
The material of the extension cable can have a significant effect on the signal quality. Most extension cables are made from copper or a copper-clad steel core. Copper cables tend to offer better conductivity and less resistance, ensuring a clearer signal and better overall performance. It’s important to avoid cheaper cables with inferior materials that could result in signal loss and poor reception, especially if you're using an HD TV antenna like the Unlimited Antenna or Mohu.
Shielding and Its Role in Signal Strength
Shielding is one of the most important aspects of an extension cable, especially when it comes to maintaining signal strength. Shielding prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) from other electronic devices that may disrupt the signal between your antenna and TV. High-quality extension cables typically feature multiple layers of shielding to protect against interference, which is especially important if you live in an area with many electronic devices or if your cable runs near power lines or other potential sources of interference.
Compatibility Between Extension Cables and Antennas
Not all extension cables are created equal, and some may not be compatible with all antenna types. Both the Unlimited Antenna and Mohu antennas are designed to work with standard coaxial cables, but it's important to check the specifications of your antenna and extension cable to ensure compatibility. Some cables are designed for specific frequency ranges, while others may offer better performance in certain conditions. It’s also important to consider the connectors on both your antenna and cable to make sure they fit properly.
The Best Coaxial Cable for TV Antennas
Coaxial cables are the most common type of extension cable used for TV antennas, and for good reason. They are easy to install, durable, and designed to deliver reliable signal transmission. The best coaxial cables for antennas are those with solid copper cores, high-quality shielding, and gold-plated connectors to ensure minimal signal loss. If you're using an Unlimited Antenna or a Mohu antenna, investing in a top-tier coaxial cable will help you achieve the best possible reception.
Weatherproof Extension Cables for Outdoor Use
If you're placing your antenna outdoors, it’s crucial to select an extension cable that is weatherproof. Outdoor-rated extension cables are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. These cables are typically coated with a protective layer that prevents moisture from getting inside and causing signal interference. Weatherproof cables are essential for outdoor antenna installations, ensuring that your antenna remains functional and the signal stays strong even in challenging weather conditions.
The Impact of Cable Quality on Signal Loss
Even with the best antennas, poor-quality extension cables can cause significant signal loss. The longer the cable, the more signal loss occurs, especially if the cable is of low quality. A high-quality extension cable minimizes this loss by using better materials and offering stronger shielding. It’s recommended to use cables with lower attenuation, which means less signal loss over long distances. Choosing a good-quality extension cable ensures that the strength and clarity of your antenna’s signal remain intact.
Cost Considerations When Selecting an Extension Cable
While it may be tempting to choose the cheapest extension cable available, investing in a higher-quality cable is worth it in the long run. A low-cost cable may seem like a good deal initially, but it can result in poor reception and signal interference. On the other hand, a premium cable made with high-quality materials and advanced shielding can provide a much better signal, ensuring that your antenna delivers the best possible performance. It's important to balance cost with quality when making your decision.
Understanding the Importance of Connectors
Connectors are an often-overlooked element of extension cables, but they play a crucial role in maintaining a stable connection between your antenna and TV. Gold-plated connectors are the most common type used for TV antennas, as they offer superior conductivity and resistance to corrosion. Poor-quality connectors can result in weak or inconsistent signal transmission, leading to a subpar viewing experience. Always ensure that the connectors on your extension cable are of high quality and compatible with your antenna and TV.

Common Problems with TV Antenna Extension Cables
Several issues can arise when using extension cables with your antenna. Signal degradation is one of the most common problems, especially if you’re using a cheap or low-quality cable. Other issues include poor connections between the cable and the antenna or TV, which can cause signal loss or poor reception. If you're experiencing issues with your antenna's signal, it might be time to upgrade your extension cable or check the connections for any wear and tear.
Can I use any extension cable with my antenna?
Not all extension cables are compatible with every antenna. It’s important to choose a cable that matches the specifications of your antenna, especially in terms of connectors and frequency range. A standard coaxial cable is often suitable, but be sure to check the details before purchasing.
How do I minimize signal loss with an extension cable?
To minimize signal loss, choose a high-quality extension cable with solid copper conductors, multiple layers of shielding, and low attenuation. Keeping the cable as short as possible also helps reduce signal degradation.
Can I use an extension cable for outdoor antenna installations?
Yes, you can use an extension cable for outdoor antenna installations, but it’s essential to use a weatherproof, outdoor-rated cable. These cables are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and maintain signal integrity.
Conclusion
Choosing the best extension cable for your TV antenna, whether you're using an Unlimited Antenna or a Mohu antenna, is crucial to ensuring optimal signal reception. By considering factors such as cable length, material, shielding, and connectors, you can enhance the performance of your antenna and enjoy high-quality TV viewing without interruptions. Whether you need a short indoor cable or a weatherproof outdoor cable, there’s an extension cable available to suit your needs and maximize your antenna's potential.
