I finished my Deathwing Knights!

Need to make them their bases and then stick them onto said bases. But otherwise? Done.

I tried to wetblend the shadows on the tabard thing. It was a try and good enough for now. I also learned that doing shadows before highlights work better probably.

Now onto the Deathwing Termis! Painted in their eyelenses real quick and I'll still have to do some clean up.

This model has been a lesson in two things: contrast paint and glazing.

Contrast paints are their own beast. By the end, I think I was getting the idea of how to use them, which is neither messy nor precise, but a sort of precise messiness. You gotta ride the line of flooding the model with paint which is gonna take some getting used to on my part.

I 👏 love 👏 glazing 👏😄 Got some practice with the oxidation/scorch effect on the pyreblaster, the eyelenses (which i kinda overdid, losing the darker edges but overall came out pretty well) and my first attempt at anything approaching NMM with the pauldron trim (a good first attempt, I think 😁).

I’ll bring him back for his glamour shots after I get his decals on; in the meantime, back to the cultists. 💜

Okay this was an unhinged-uninhibited-unabashedly tropey watch— fast-paced as all hell like a full 24-ep mahou shoujo-gundam season crammed into a 22-min pilot, & an æsthetic homage to fashion doll avatar games and retro-shoujo nostalgia (and the bot mons are cute; I like that their eyelenses match her nebulous jrpg orbgem accents; makes the corrupted Throne battle bit cuter).

I'd say the visual execution is best described as: "international twitter artists co-inhabiting online & kind-of listening/sharing in the discussion of colorism/antiblackness & clearly making attempts to adapt designs" but in a way that looks like a stereotypically bad picrew for a minute (like. 'is this self-aware commentary or not' levels) before the quick Galverse reveal (~16min mark) that does do MUCH better with skin tone depth, yet still looks like 00-10s pixel fashion doll recolours (which feels like an intentional pull given the nostalgia era-vibe I'm getting) so it's still Mid/subpar?? but I'm loving the enthusiam/energy... very 90's Sailor Moon Monster-of-the-Week kind of copy-paste variety of same-base styling manipulation, y'know? Self-indulgent enthusiastic trash(affectionate) by ppl I hope make more— and more refined, self-indulgent one-off OVA series.

Not much progress, been too busy with writing and prepping for a big larp this weekend. But I have finally found a way to get the orange on my 6th Company Salamanders as bright as I want it!

Turns out, the Orange Glaze from Two Thin Coats makes pretty much any shit orange you've slapped below it pop. It also looks great as a shadow on my pointing guy's yellow eyelenses! His gun still isn't popping, but that's just one coat of the glaze applied directly on top of a base coat + drybrush.

Trust me, he will make a lot more sense once he's painted and photographed with his sister.

It took a lot of work to keep this story under the word count and I had to get my spouse to check that the language was orky enough, but I'm decently pleased with this one. My feedback for my first chapter was that it wasn't grim enough, so I've gone heavy on the suffering and violence in this one. Maybe it'll do better? We'll see.
