Week Twelve: Nehemiah, Chapters 11-13: Finding a Place and Purpose in God’s House
To ensure their safety and that all of their work was not in vain, Nehemiah realized that a certain number of Israelites needed to live in Jerusalem, which required people to leave their cities and lands and move into the city. Nehemiah and the leaders stayed in the city, but among the other people, lots were cast to see who would move to Jerusalem. One out of every ten people were chosen. There…

Mattana Ministry
Welcomes You To:
Daily Bible Study: 6 July 2024
Theme: Book of Nehemiah (3)
Scripture: Neh. 8; Neh. 9; Neh. 10; Neh. 8:10 & 2 Tim. 3:16
Message:
THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD
During the Israelite's captivity, no one ever spoke the Word of God to them. Therefore, when Ezra re-read the Torah, their hearts were deeply touched and they even mourned. They were awakened to their sin and disobedience. When they were all crying, Nehemiah advised them to rejoice. Nehemiah's counsel is based on the correct concept that the more we realize how sinful we are before God, the more joyful we are for God's forgiveness.
The repentance of the entire nation of Israel was the first step for the nation's reform. Further steps to be taken were family leaders and spiritual leaders studying the Torah with Ezra. This action was important because one of the causes of Israel's exile was the fault and sin of the nation's leaders.
The right step produces an effective and refreshing spiritual fruit that re-awakens us to the Word of God. The longing to know God through His Word is the proper reflection of repentance. Through this event we can see the reformation of a nation that begins with the Word of God and its continued study. The Word, as the foundation, and The Word as the material of further development.
As 2 Timothy 3:16 NLT says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."
The Word of God is able to lead and guide us to the right path.

Unlocking the Mysteries of Beis Hamikdash: Understanding Beit Hamikdash in Jewish Tradition
Beis Hamikdash, or Beit Hamikdash in Hebrew, holds a sacred significance in Jewish tradition as the holy temple of Jerusalem. Its history, symbolism, and spiritual importance continue to resonate deeply within Jewish culture and religious practice, serving as a focal point for prayer, worship, and reflection.
Tumblr media
The Sacred Sanctuary of Beis Hamikdash
Beis Hamikdash was more than just a physical structure; it was the spiritual center of the Jewish people, believed to be the dwelling place of God's presence on Earth. Located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Beis Hamikdash consisted of several sections, each with its own significance and purpose. The outer courtyard, known as the Ezrat Nashim, was open to all Jews and served as a gathering place for communal worship. Beyond it lay the inner courtyard, the Ezrat Yisrael, where sacrifices were offered on the altar. At the heart of Beis Hamikdash stood the Holy of Holies, the innermost chamber where the Ark of the Covenant resided and where the divine presence was believed to dwell.
Historical Significance of Beis Hamikdash
Beis Hamikdash played a central role in Jewish history and religious practice for centuries. The First Temple, built by King Solomon in the 10th century BCE, was a testament to the glory and splendor of ancient Israel. However, it was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. The Second Temple, rebuilt by the Jews under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah, became the focal point of Jewish life and worship for nearly 600 years. Despite its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE, the legacy of Beis Hamikdash continues to shape Jewish identity and faith to this day.
Spiritual Significance of Beis Hamikdash
Beis Hamikdash holds profound spiritual significance for Jews around the world. It symbolizes the eternal covenant between God and the Jewish people, a bond forged through prayer, sacrifice, and devotion. The rituals performed within its sacred precincts served as a means of atonement, purification, and spiritual renewal for individuals and the community as a whole. Even in its physical absence, Beis Hamikdash remains a source of inspiration and aspiration for Jews, who pray for its restoration and the renewal of divine worship in Jerusalem.
Tumblr media
The Future of Beis Hamikdash
For Jews, the rebuilding of Beis Hamikdash is not just a hope but a divine promise. According to Jewish tradition, the Third Temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem in the Messianic era, ushering in an age of peace, righteousness, and spiritual fulfillment. Until that day comes, Jews continue to commemorate the legacy of Beis Hamikdash through prayer, study, and acts of kindness, keeping alive the memory of their sacred sanctuary and the eternal flame of hope that burns within their hearts.
A Beacon of Faith and Hope
Beis Hamikdash stands as a beacon of faith, hope, and resilience for the Jewish people. Its history, symbolism, and spiritual significance continue to inspire and uplift Jews around the world, reminding them of their eternal covenant with God and their enduring commitment to live lives of holiness and righteousness. As Jews continue to pray for the restoration of Beis Hamikdash, they remain steadfast in their belief that one day, the holy temple will be rebuilt, and the glory of God will once again shine forth from Jerusalem.

TEACH THE PEOPLE AND TRAIN THE LEADERS
[Leadership style of Nehemiah 11]
8 SO they read distinctly from THE BOOK, in the Law of God [the Scripture]; and they gave the sense, AND HELPED THEM [the people] TO UNDERSTAND THE READING.
13 NOW on the second day THE HEADS OF THE FATHERS' HOUSES of all the people, with THE PRIESTS AND LEVITES, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE WORDS OF THE LAW."
Nehemiah 8:1-3,8,13 (NKJV)
Tumblr media
• The Word of God gives understanding and Joy to the soul of the people
- When the Word is taught and the people received it with a repentant heart, they had a godly sorrow, and accepted to follow Jesus Christ—God:
"FOR [godly] sorrow that is in accord with the will of God PRODUCES A REPENTANCE WITHOUT REGRET, LEADING TO SALVATION; but worldly sorrow [the hopeless sorrow of those who do not believe] produces death" (2 Corinthians 7:10 AMP).
- Then the leaders would need to calm them and encourage them—direct them on how to strengthen their relationship with God:
9 AND Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; DO NOT MOURN NOR WEEP.” FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WEPT, WHEN THEY HEARD THE WORDS OF THE LAW. 10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, FOR THE JOY OF THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH" (Nehemiah 8:9,10 (NKJV).
- Assure them of God's faithfulness, mercy, love and His willingness to forgive and accept whoever confesses his or her sins and turns back to Him: FOR “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED” (Romans 10:13 NKJV).
"IF we CONFESS our sins, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS" (1 John 1:9 NKJV).
• Teach and train the leaders:
"ON the second day THE LEADERS OF THE FAMILIES OF ALL THE PEOPLE, including the priests and the Levites, MET WITH EZRA THE SCRIBE TO STUDY THE WORDS OF GOD'S TEACHINGS" (Nehemiah 8:13 GOD’S WORD Translation).
- You have to develop the leaders around you, those who are working with you, for the work committed to your hands can grow and be increased.
- If you can get the leaders to understand the Word of God, equip them to know the truth, the whole people or congregation would not be difficult to get.
- Train your associates and sectional HEADS in your church and Ministry.
- If you succeed in changing the leaders, to change the followers, the people, would not be an uphill task:
"AND the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, COMMIT THESE TO FAITHFUL MEN WHO WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS ALSO" (2 Timothy 2:2 NKJV).
- Note: In developing the leaders around you, you would need to consider the following:
(a) If you are having a large congratulation, give yourself to twenty percent of the people you are leading.
(b) Develop a plan for their growth.
(c) Be transparent with them.
(d) Give them the opportunity to practice, put to work, whatever you have taught them.
• The teaching and the training of the people and the leaders had to be an ongoing programme that should NOT be stopped.
- As a leader, God's minister and His representative, you would do well to plan and organize a programme, a meeting, where the people under your leadership would gather for a number of days and be taught the Word of God (Nehemiah 8:18).
- A meeting where they would have to leave everything, their works and houses, come together in a place, and be taught the Word of God. A kind of camp MEETING:
14 AS THEY STUDIED THE LAW, they discovered that the Lord had commanded through Moses that the Israelites should live in shelters during the festival to be held that month. 16 So the people went out and cut branches and used them to build shelters on the roofs of their houses, in their courtyards, in the courtyards of God’s Temple, or in the squares just inside the Water Gate and the Ephraim Gate" (Nehemiah 8:14,16 (NLT).
- In such a meeting, there minds would be away from cares and affairs of life, they would be there to learn and unburden their hearts to God.
- God delighted in such meetings and usually MOVED and made Himself known to the people.
- It could be gleaned from the pages of the Scriptures that God commanded different feasts, festivals, whereby His people are required to gather up, and be before Him for a number of days (Exodus 23:14-19).
(i) God does not want His people to always be overtaken with Care and affairs of life. He does want them to trust in Him, depend on Him, for their needs to be met (Matthew 6:27-34).
(ii) He wants the knowing of Him and the doing of His Will, that is, doing of His Word—be their utmost priority (Joshua 1:8; Colossians 3:1,2; James 1:22,25).
• Let everything you do in your ministry be based on the Scriptures.
- Whatever is not found in the Scripture should not be done or practiced.
- The Bible is our melting point and standard for all we do in the Ministry work.
- What could not be established with the Scripture should be done away with.
- Do not copy whatever someone else or other people are doing because it is popular and widely accepted. If it was not found in the Scriptures, do not do it:
"EZRA READ FROM THE BOOK OF THE LAW OF GOD ON EACH OF THE SEVEN DAYS OF THE FESTIVAL. Then on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly, AS WAS REQUIRED BY LAW [the Scripture]" (Nehemiah 8:18 (NLT).
You will not fail in Jesus' name.
Peace!

*The Water Gate*
_(The Ten Gates 7)_
🪴📈📈📈📈📈📈📈📈🌴
Ezra the scribe and the priests led and conducted a great Bible study conference that explained the Scriptures to Israelites following their return to Jerusalem in the days of Nehemiah. This meeting was significant because the people were taught and instructed in the ways of God. This all important meeting was held at the Water gate.
Of all the gates, only the water gate was not repaired. This emphasizes to us the fact that the word of God stands sure evermore.
_“Moreover the Nethinim who dwelt in Ophel made repairs as far as the place in front of the Water Gate toward the east, and on the projecting tower” (Nehemiah 3:26)._
Water represents the Word of God, and just as a human being cannot do without water for a few days, the man in Christ also cannot thrive without the Word of God.
Have you entered the water gate?
Further studies: Matthew 4:4; 1 Peter 2:2; Isaiah 55:11; James 1:22.

"The Toy." From the Book of Nehemiah, "the Exploration of the Mysteries of the Lions that Lay," 8: 1-3.
Tumblr media
The Kingdom of Israel is a separate species of government in that its tenets are derived from a cross-pollination of math, science, religion, philosophy, politics, and all the other academic disciplines. The return of the exiles concludes saying "those who understand" are the ones that must lead and maintain its health and whereabouts. I have suggested we conquer the world through commonwealth, one headquartered in Russia the largest territory on the planet where this belief, that full enlightenment is in man's best interests regardless of his race, location, background, wealth, religion, sexual orientation or gender etc. can be best leveraged.
The Law, the Ark of the Covenant in fact insists upon this. We must choose- a great flood or a great commonwealth. The two must and will compete until the angels draw the curtain either way, we should at least fight to free as many free souls as possible.
Ezra Reads the Law
When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns,
1 all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel.
2 So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand.
3 He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
We revisit now the Water Gate which means "to be exhausted" and release the stored wisdom of the Book of Law into the world. This takes place on the first day of the seventh month. Months are "what has emerged" from one's studies during a day. Torah time is weird, increments do not translate directly into English. Days are curricula, months are achievements, years are movements or eras.
We know the First Day is the dawn of creation, the birth of right and wrong. The first month is like first grade, the moment a child stops being a drooling diapered idiot and can walk and talk without his parents. The First Year is the arrival of hot and cold running water to a neighborhood that has never had these things before.
The first day of the Month of Nehemiah then is the moment humanity decides to heed the Nsh.
v. 1: They brought out the Book of Law. This does not mean the people gathered on checkered tablecloths opened picknick baskets while the Rabbi chanted nonsense all day. This means the instincts for freedom and law and order were realized in man's behavior.
The Number is 9670, טוי‎ ‎"the wrong toy."
Religion is not a toy, nor are other human beings, objects we play with today but not tomrrow. Once the Law is realized, Shabbat occurs and there is no going back.
v. 2: The priest brought the law before the Assembly. The Zohar says this included men and women. Now we know many cultures condemn mixed gender communion but this is not a valid prescription within the Torah. In the Torah, men and women associated freely all of the time except during times of disease or danger.
The Number is 11997, ג יצאת, "see, you went out."
v. 3: He read till daybreak, and all the people listened. The Passover Seder is not a difficult sacrament to understand. The extra shitty food is hard to stomach, but the sentiment is easy to digest. To live under a yoke of tyranny, either voluntarily as when one lives with one's parents or involuntarily as in America, Iran, or Russia, places with failing governments is not permitted by God.
We are an advanced mankind. We have laws, rules, procedures and traditions that are supposed to protect us from the onset of failed states, ailing economies, environmental collapses, etc. but we do not listen. The reason we sit down once a year and eat very very shitty food is to ensure everyone has a chance to learn God does not want us to be servants to causes or circumstances that do not profit us.
The Number is 9938, טטגח‎ ‎‎‎, tatgah, "Do not give in to pride. Do not be haughty, overbearing, conceited or boastful."
People who brag are camouflaging wickedness. We just witnessed a foul braggart, Donald Trump, a Pharaoh with a hard heart become the President of the United States once again. In the Torah, God made the Pharaoh pay for his pride. Men who lie, cheat, defile other persons and places do not get to run nations. They must perish. This is true in fact it is true internally, should one's ego gain too much control in spite of the fact it does not know what it is doing.
We do not as a nation planet know what we are doing because we are bragging, making excuses, doing nothing that is instead legal or proper. The advice of the Nehemiah Torah- go back and read the Book.

Week Ten: Nehemiah Chapters Seven and Eight: Victory through Perseverance and Determination
The wall is finished, complete with doors! It had been quite a struggle with so much opposition, but Nehemiah and the Judahites persevered through the opposition and obstacles to complete the work that God had laid on Nehemiah’s heart. Nehemiah was determined that nothing would stop the forward momentum of the work, and, hallelujah, the work is done. Now, the time has come to close the doors and…
