Ignoring pending race wars, I also see that same river bed is now full of homeless camps. Where there were three or four last March, now there are dozens. But when the buffet is only 100 yards away it can’t be long. The suburbanites claim to be ready to defend. But the quiet hum of air conditioning is a poor atmosphere for preparation.

Homelessness Resulting from Natural Disasters

Some of the top natural disasters among the United States are Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irma and the Northridge Earthquake. They all cost more than 40 billion dollars in damage with both Katrina and Harvey costing 125 billion dollars. The effects of natural disasters are drastically different for each of the socioeconomic classes. For the people who are in the upper class or the people of extreme wealth are often affected minimally by natural disasters because they are able to evacuate their homes with all of their expensive belongings in a safe amount of time an even if their house is destroyed, they can stay at one of their other homes. Emergency services are also always the quickest in these rich neighborhoods. The middle class contributes most to homelessness during natural disasters because many people that fall under this category own their own home but when it is destroyed, then they have nothing else and nowhere else to go. Emergency services are just as quick, so fatalities are not as high. The lower class is where fatalities are high, people under this class are less likely to have access to shelter in the first place and the emergency services are slow.

Jamie O'neill suddenly became homeless due to the forest fire called The Camp Fire that wiped out Paradise and Natalia, CA but he still had his car and good credit. He was not wealthy enough to buy another home but his status in society had changed drastically and eventually others began looking at his family with a “oh-you-poor-people” look. This felt very unfair because he and his family were not responsible for this misfortune that they faced, in fact it was fully due to the fire. He then suffered from a bad cold after becoming homeless and the factor of being unsheltered from the weather made it even worse.

One day he heard two women talking about the fire that he had lost his house in and one of them said how she wanted to donate to the fire victims, but then the other woman said that the “regular homeless” are taking advantage of the situation and then said how she wouldn’t even know where the money was going if she donated and that it could be given to the people who choose homelessness as a lifestyle. O'neill believes differently. He thinks that if you don’t have assured access to privacy, shelter, warmth, a toilet, or a bed, then you do not choose that lifestyle, rather that misfortune made that choice for you.

In hurricane Harvey and Maria, many Puerto Ricans that were affected and lost their homes did not have flood insurance, so they either had to pay from pocket or apply for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) aid. FEMA provides disaster assistance that includes emergency medical attention and housing assistance for those that lost their homes from a presidentially declared disaster. If you get a FEMA grant then you receive a check or a direct deposit of money and a letter describing how to spend it. During these two hurricanes, 80-90 percent of homes in Puerto Rico were destroyed.

Hurricane Sandy, which took place on October 29th, 2012, struck New York City and caused large amounts of physical damage along with the disruption of healthcare services and the overall peoples health. There was an increase in visits to the ED (Emergency Department) in areas most vulnerable to flooding in NYC. There was also a statistically significant increase in ED visits regarding homelessness or inadequate housing in the week after Hurricane Sandy. Those accessing the ED for homelessness / inadequate housing were more often the elderly and insured by Medicare after versus before Hurricane Sandy. By tracking the ED visits for homelessness, it can act as a surveillance mechanism to assess post-disaster impacts and how to prepare for them. Homelessness emerged above most medical conditions in ED diagnoses and by conducting this study, they were able to show how emergency departments after natural disasters should not only provide essential medical care but of other needs such as homelessness.

Homeless people are the most vulnerable group in a community when it comes to natural disasters. In addition to the homelessness being exposed and unsheltered to the natural elements, most do not know where to go. In Houston, during Hurricane Harvey, local organization came together and reach out to those unsheltered and let them know their available options. Since those suffering from homelessness most likely are not paying attention to the news, they fall behind in preparation for natural disaster. The emergency shelters relaxed their rules by allowing more in and not turning away anyone. Some homeless people did not want to relocate but because of the threat, the police took them against their will to save their lives. Hurricane Harvey cause Houston’s first rise in the number of individuals experiencing homelessness since 2011, according to the Coalition of the Homeless.

Alrighty! I’m sharing this video as part of Marks birthday request, I’m going to share the first episode of Outlast 1 on my Facebook but this here has a whole nother meaning to it. So buckle the fuckle up cuz we about to write a novel or whatever!

So I know this isn’t an old video but it has everything to do with why I subscribed to mark ages and ages ago when dinosaurs still bussed tables at the last supper.

Roughly four or five years ago I was homeless, no not couch surfing, genuinely homeless. I had a camp under a bridge near Longview Washington and got my resources from either begging or scavenging. I had one friend, Steven, who had access to a shitty laptop that someone tossed. He liked to watch online videos, mostly cats and/or gun related stuff. It was a nice reprieve from our daily hell. One of these video watching expirences involved what I referred to as a “moron with bad hair” screaming a lot. And I mean a LOT! I thought it was stupid, but my friend insisted that we had to watch him and i obliged. After all, we didn’t have many comforts, why not let him watch some guy yelling loud? About three months later someone stole the laptop, and all we had were flip phones, our days of YouTube had ended. I think this hit Steven harder than it hit me.

We continued our lives on the road for a few more months and I made it to Montana, I found out my mother was there and wanted to see her and my little sister. Steven followed shortly after.

We lived in the garage for two weeks in the winter. During that time I had a revelation, I had been doing this for years… But I couldn’t do this as an old woman. I couldn’t scrounge food if my hands were old and frozen, I couldn’t run away from danger with arthritis in my knees, I couldn’t survive a cold night, I couldn’t fight if someone attacked me. I brought it up to Steven, who at the time was watching “Shark Boy” doing a vlog on a phone he borrowed from my step dad. He was talking about motivation, doing better and being better than what he was right now. Improving his life with the help of his supporters. I didn’t know why at the time, but I felt motivation at those words. I set out to find a job the next morning. An overall unsuccessful endeavour that led to me finding out about a place called Job Corps at a local youth shelter. We both applied immediately, I made it in. Steven didn’t. It was a hard goodbye, but a necessary one. After a year training in construction carpentry and earning my HSD while living on the campus I met another Steven. He was a raging nerd who always had a laptop on him and almost always was watching videos that he had downloaded off the library computer. Feeling that ol crave for friendship I started hanging out with him, and one day asked to join him while he was watching videos. Guess what he was watching. That motherfucking sharknado of a YouTuber! He was playing a game called Outlast. I was enthralled, I loved the game to death, and the commentary actually cracked me up. For the next few months I downloaded his videos (we weren’t allowed access to YouTube or facebook, some moron ruined that) when they became available, watching through the whole series and even digging up some of his older videos. Hell I even found that motivational vlog I had watches almost a year prior. This guy was FUCKING hilarious. I became a huge fan, and even tried to send fanmail to him once or twice. Shortly after I graduated I got my own place, I got a shitty touch screen phone, made an account, subscribed to Mark, and watched his videos as I lived on a mattress eating ramen noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. His vlogs motivated me to join FEMA and voulenteer with NCCC, his gameplay made me laugh even when I was crying seconds before, his heartfelt words and our awesome community made me realise I wasn’t alone.

Right now I have a stable job, a great apartment in Portland, and I’m reconnected with my family.

This video, Outlast 2, is very symbolic for me. It felt like the closing of a loop. In that moment, when I saw that notification pop up, the world rocked for a moment. I saw little 20 year old homeless me. I saw all the hopelessness that I lived in for years and years, and I saw that all change, get better, and move toward a brighter future all because of a couple of Stevens and a laptop with a sharky screamer on it.

No matter how trivial it may have been at first, I have no doubt that Mark helped me change my life. And he continues to help, motivating me when I feel like I’m losing my way.

That’s why this video is so important, because it marks a point in a journey that I haven’t completed yet; it reminds me (in its own weird way) that I can rise out of anything and become better.

TL;DR: I’m not saying Outlast 1 saved my life, but I am saying it sure as hell helped, Thank you Mark. Thank you so damn much.

A flash story, and my first fan fiction. I’m not much of a fan fiction guy but this writing prompt was a personal gripe of mine after watching the last Avengers movie.

“Them bastards," I poured the poor sod another double, on the rocks. "I came back and my house now suddenly belonged to this family from Ohio. I've never even been to Ohio."

"I know buddy," I served the customer the next stool over a stout. He grunted appreciatively.

"I mean," spittle dripped down his mouth, "I never asked them to bring me back. And the government now says it's not their job to find me work. And them so-called temporary," his voice slanted into disdain, "FEMA relocation camps. Man, those are ghettos."

"It's okay buddy. Here's a refill." I poured him another double. Maybe I should have cut him off, but it's not like he had an alternative to the bottle. At least this way he could forget, if only for a while.

The stout drinker squinted at me sideways. "Hey, you look like-"

"Yeah," I nod. "I get that a lot. That bastard."

"That bastard." He nods, taking a sip from his pint.

Stout Drinker shook his head. "Thanos," he said. His pronunciation was unmistakable. He was swearing. Maybe it was all Thanos's fault, but Thanos was dead. The government was much easier for folks to blame. They weren't at fault either, though. I knew who was really to blame.

The bar was busy tonight and didn't close until three am. The Supreme Court ruling on Jackson vs. Alabama came in.

Case law was complex, but the ruling was inevitable. The subject of ownership of a home abandoned during the Thanos incident wasn't a legal matter, it was a survival of civilization matter. I couldn't say I was surprised by the ruling. Uprooting those people who already had a home, and a way to pay for it, was no way to rebuild the country.

The case, however unlikely, gave people hope. That hope was now gone.

Closing the bar, I decided to take a stroll home. It would save me money for the bus and help clear my head. I wished I could say I was restless because of the halfer, but I wasn't. Half the world was made of halfers, and we all had stories.

The road was abandoned of cars, much like most of the other ones in the city. A festival of colors, name-calling, and the smell of feces permeates the atmosphere. The world has become San Francisco. Homeless are everywhere. In a way, I am one of them.

I walked into a dark alleyway, past a small tin lean-to, and into a cardboard-covered doorway. I was home.

Home was a cargo container. I dropped my backpack, dropped myself onto the blanket on the floor, and slept.

The next morning I jumped out of bed with alacrity. Not because of any misguided excitement -- these were not times for the energetic -- but because I was kicked.

I pulled out my 9 millimeter Glock 17 in one motion and am about to pull the trigger when the gun centered between my assailant's two eyes. It was my ex-wife

"Wasn't the support I was sending you enough? Did you have to contact Becca? We agreed. No contact!"

In the past, I'd have tried to defend myself. my ex didn't care that Becca was my daughter too, or that I missed her. She remarried and didn't have a place for me in her life anymore. Plus, I couldn't really do without the support she provided. She could stop at any minute.

I stood there listening, dejected. I didn't meet her eyes. Eventually, she gave me a hug. Then she left.

"The real villains," I said to no one in particular, "were the avengers."

Hundreds of thousands died on the first hour of The Return. Those who were on aircraft came back mid-air. Many spouses, halfers and those left behind committed suicide. Those were the lucky ones.

My name is Stark, and for a smart guy, I failed miserably.

'Let's bring everyone back to now, not five years ago,' was not a smart plan. In the end, I brought misery far greater than the one I was trying to undo.

I dropped back on my blanket. "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." I mumbled to my pillow.

I turned to my left and was back to sleep in moments.

4: Implement an unconstitutional Nationwide "Stop and Frisk" policy and deployment of federal assets, including the National Guard, if local law enforcement refuses to comply with this order. Effectively violating the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 and killing the 4th amendment of the United States Constitution.

5: Strictly enforcing existing gun laws and implement nation wide "Red Flag" gun laws that violate the 2nd amendment of the United States Constitution.

This is the future the MAGA cult wants for America. This agenda is not hidden, its displayed proudly on Donald Trumps own website for everyone to see.
