there are also a few theoretical texts in social / cultural anthropology that will be frequent touchstones here, including norbert elias's 'the civilising process' (first published 1939) and mary douglas's 'purity and danger' (1966). i don't honestly think it's worth it or necessary to read these directly, both because they're dated in certain ways and because i think the historical studies are generally more useful. but you will probably notice these two texts & a handful of others repeatedly cropping up in introductory footnotes on this topic.

Kind of a weird question, but just how sickly do you think Elia Martell actually was? The only reliable information we have about her health is that she was born earlier than was expected, and therefore was kind of small and frail for her age... But that's it? Doran recalls Elia and Oberyn playing together in the water gardens as children, and the Princess traveled with the both of them all the way to Casterly Rock, so Elia's health definitely wasn't critical or extemely delicate. People talk about the way that childbirth was difficult for her, but she gave birth twice to two healthy children and survived (which is more than we can say about women who seems to have been healthy and strong before giving birth, like Joanna Lannister and Lyanna Stark), and even attended the Tourney of Harrenhall soon after giving birth to Rhaenys and (possibly) while pregnant with Aegon. It seems to me that, despite having a few health issues here or there, Elia lived a normal life for a highborn lady - and yet, part of the fandom talks about her as if she was a deathly ill woman. What do you think?

That's not a weird question. I've actually had a whole talk about it before.

Barristan spent a bunch of time with her, and described her as being frail with "delicate" health. The maesters didn't expect her to survive infancy. She may have been fatigued easily, in which case she would have needed to take frequent breaks and may not have stayed long at functions. I actually recommend this and this, which have the contributions of Fabio, a doctor who frequents my blog. In it, we speculate that Elia may have had a pulmonary defect due to her premature birth which led to anemia.

Exu' fue una banda de Post-Punk de Salerno, Italia, formada en 1992 por Fabio Scoppetta (voz), Adriano Elia (guitarra), Fortunato Cacciatore (bajo) y Paolo Marcellini (batería).

Lanzaron una cinta de demostración homónima en 1993 y el EP "Incammino" en 1995.

Exú (en lengua yoruba "esfera" o "vórtice") refiere dentro de las tradiciones Yoruba, Bantú a espíritus desencarnados: "El que todo lo ve", "El que está en todas partes".

Founded over 20 years ago by the Contreras family, Sereno Hotels is the company that created, owns and manages the award-winning Il Sereno hotels on Lake Como and Le Sereno on the island of Saint-Barthélemy.

Allen & Overy advised Cheyne Capital Management LLP, a global alternative asset manager, in the refinancing of the acquisition of the majority stake in Sereno Hotels by a company affiliated with KSL Partners, a private equity operator specializing in investments in the travel & leisure sector. The loan is intended, among other purposes, for the development of real estate properties.

Founded over 20 years ago by the Contreras family, Sereno Hotels is the company that created, owns and manages the award-winning Il Sereno hotels on Lake Como and Le Sereno on the island of Saint-Barthélemy.

The Allen & Overy team in France was coordinated by partner Caroline Delavet assisted by senior associate Chloé Detroussel. In Italy, the team was led by partner Pietro Scarfone (pictured left), assisted by associate Fabio Gregoris (pictured right) and trainee Gianmarco Volino.
