“Do you remember what it was to be young?” She asked.
“Every trouble would be solved by sundown, and every dawn you'd have a new chance to remake the world.”

Closing my eyes doesn't help. Fire burns brighter in the darkness.
All those people I loved, dead, and we are discussing the next Hunger Games in an attempt to avoid wasting life. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change now.

Im about halfway through this book and its so beautifully written. Like, if I had to explain to someone what the plot was, I wouldn't be able to come up with anything much apart from the blurb but the way the author wrote about the little incidents and how important they became later on. The little back and forth of the timeline. I love it so much! Every little incident, every little story seems to be connected, seems to have a purpose. Such a sorted eloquent way of telling too. Like the protagonist will be talking about an incident and there will be a part where we're a bit lost about what she meant and then she says "let me back up a little bit to show you why this happened" and I'll be like Yes! please! tell me!its just a steady build up and I'm so down for it!

My reads for this past February. Only got around to seven books last month but at least I seemed to have a mostly good batch.

"She was getting carried away with making up a story for herself. She might just as well have been saying I was "cured". If it had been that simple all along, I thought, I wish she'd given me clear instructions before, then I wouldn't have had to go to such lengths to find out how to be normal."

"District Twelve. Where you can starve to death in safety," I mutter. Then I glance quickly over my shoulder. Even here, even in the middle of nowhere, you worry someone might overhear you.
Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch — this is the Capitol's way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy. How little chance we would stand of surviving another rebellion.
A kind Peeta Mellark is far more dangerous to me than an unkind one. Kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there. And I can't let Peeta do this. Not where we're going.
But then… what? What would my life be like on a daily basis? Most of it has been consumed with the acquisition of food. Take that away and I'm not really sure who I am, what my identity is.
I run for them and surprise even myself when I launch into Haymitch's arms first. When he whispers in my ear, "Nice job, sweetheart," it doesn't sound sarcastic.

💕 February Reads 💕
Still no 5-star reads in 2025! Overall, it was still a good reading month. I had such high hopes for Chrysanthemum Palace because the cover was gorgeous, but I was severely let down.

February Books
We're off to a decent start this year, although February appears to be a much slower month than the norm. I've got more of a focus on how I want to read, instead of just how much. There's going to be more focus spent on my physical TBR as well as keeping up with the ARC reads/reviews I have been meaning to do.

The Prisoner's Throne (The Stolen Heir #2) by Holly Black
Throne of the Fallen (Prince of Sin #1) by Kerri Maniscalco
Throne of Secrets (Prince of Sin #2) by Kerri Maniscalco
The Hedgwitch of Foxhall by Anna Bright
Divine Rivals (Letters of Enchantment #1) by Rebecca Ross
Ruthless Vows (Letters of Enchantment #2) by Rebecca Ross
A Fire in the Flesh (Flesh and Fire #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Born of Blood and Ash (Flesh and Fire #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Onyx Storm (The Empyrean #3) by Rebecca Yarros
Police Line (The Naturals #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Killer Instinct (The Naturals #2) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
All In (The Naturals #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Bad Blood (The Naturals #4) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
That's my February wrap-up, 13 books in the shortest month of the year! I can't even choose a favourite since almost all of these books were amazing (honourable shout-out to the Naturals and Prince of Sin books though).
Onyx Storm was a little hard to get into since the start was dragging, The Hedgwitch of Foxhall is probably something I'd have enjoyed more a few years ago but it was still good.
The worst was definitely the two Flesh and Fire novels because they were very, very unnecessarily long (870 and 980 pages) and repetitive. The plot was okay but the writing was average. The only reason I read them was to finish the series since I'd started reading it like 2-3 years ago. This seems like a theme since I haven't really liked any of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books.
@lafleshlumpeater thanks for recommending the Naturals to me I think I'm in debt to you now ♥️
