Just finished the Lotus episode!!! Here's my thoughts!
1)Luke calling them an old married couple, Icon 😂. Also, Annabeth having to be like, "Maybe don't ask the person with even more daddy issues than you or me, if we should go talk to his dad or not" 😂
2) Grover worrying about the animals and not the people was kinda of iconic, ngl
3)My sister was so confused about Annabeth & Luke's relationship, like she thought they were biological siblings and was confused 😭😭
4) Hermes!! Omg, Hermes!! I will never accept Lin Manuel Miranda slander ever again!! He's just a victim of his own creation, and it's Fandom because he is an amazing actor!! He delivered as Hermes!! The tensio, the fact that Luke hates him, but he loves him and still hurt him anyway (even wothou meaning to... I can't 😭. I need to see him and Luke interact 😭😭
5) Augustus was so sad!! It sounded like Ferdinand wanted to also find Augustus (not just Pan) and my heart hurts to know they never found each other cause Ferdinand only made it to Medusa while Augustus only made it to the Lotus hotel (none or them found Pan 😭😭)
6)Grover forgetting everything but still being 100% down to help Percy and Annabeth 🥺. Also him being worried that they're late because of him and Percy making him feel better 😭
7) Percy driving was a mood! Like, that's exactly how I felt when I drove for the first time 😂
8) They missed the deadline 😭😭. Percy didn't get to meet his dad, but he still gave him enough pearls to save his mom 😭😭😭. I need them to meet!!!
All in all, I absolutely loved this episode!!! I think it may be my favorite so far! The tension, the character background/lore showing up, the emotions!! I loved it!!!

one thing about the percy jackson movies that i find hilarious is the fact that 99% of the movie misses a lot of the plot but they’ll add THE MOST RANDOM DETAIL. like they got most of the story wrong but uncle ferdinand is there bc he’s rlly important

In tlo, Krono's army is camping out at Aunty Em's and Percy says he saw Uncle Ferdinand's statue there in his dream. Why wouldn't Grover want to go back and retrieve his statue to put him to rest? Even if the council won't give him permission, I feel like Annabeth and Percy would still help if he asked them.
Satyrs get reincarnated as plants when they die but is that still a possibility for him? In the show, Alecto was able to come back after being turned to stone, so maybe Uncle Ferdinand could still be reincarnated if he's put to rest.
Also in the show, Grover was more distraught over him, so hopefully they'll add some closure to Uncle Ferdinand's story instead of making him a throw away line to establish the setting in tlo.
(Also, you'd think that Chiron and the campers would want to search the rest of the statues in Medusa's lair in case they find missing campers or other satyrs.)

Medusa was such a relatable character.
I absolutely agree that the gods are monsters and I’m please the show made that clear.
However, I disagree with her that she wasn’t a monster.
She became a monster when she decided to murder innocent people in her basement because she decided they weren’t redeemable. She literally hid their corpses in her cellar…
Also? It’s kind of telling that she had a few hundred monsters on her front step but THOUSANDS of regular people in her basement.

I'm so glad the executive decision was made to make Uncle Ferdinand into an actual thing from Grover's past for the show. Bc in tlt it's kind of a joke or just something to scare Grover and make him whack Medusa with a tree branch but in the show ??? They made that into TRAUMA. They EXPANDED that shit. I love to see my little guys get extra character depth <3

Just watched the newest Percy Jackson ep and I genuinely liked the way they did the Medusa part and how they’re handling Grover
#Grover my boy#grover underwood#grover#grover pjo#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo#pjo tv series#pjo disney+#semispoilers starting here#like yes he’s fucking tired of these two arguing all the time! he gets to be pissed that they won’t get along!#the consensus song my beloved#I like that we get an actual reaction to his uncle ferdinand being dead cuz like yeah that shit would hurt#the fury (no clue how to spell her name) and medusa each giving annabeth and percy an offer and them denying it was actually a really good#addition in my opinion like it really solidifies their loyalty to not only the quest but to each other#they had the option to get what they truly wanted and they said no and I really liked that#medusa was so pretty and I love how she’s truly our first introduction to the bad side of the gods outside of how percy feels about his dad#also!!! the k on the sneakers!!!!!! luke!!!!!!!!!!#as funny as gabe saying the prophecy was I would’ve liked to hear the oracle say it#I had kinda built up the scene and hearing the raspy dead voice of the oracle say the prophecy would’ve have made an amazing scene#and using gabe for more of a comedic tone kinda dampened the scene for me#but it looked phenomenal and I really can’t wait to see how they do the prophecys in the second and third books#I wanna know who would appear for clarisse and the hunters#I think ares showing up for clarisse and artemis showing up for the hunters would be really interesting#so setting up the whole ‘a different person shows up for everyone’ should be cool#I just can’t get over how it was gabe#i would’ve liked to see that scene but it’s sally or poseidon saying the prophecy for extra impact#I’ll stop nitpicking now it was a really good episode#autism (mads) speaks

Who I Think Rachel Elizabeth Dare is Listening to (EXTREMELY BIASED EDITION)
Regina Spektor (fellow new-yorker, matches her twee vibe, extremely heavy on this)
Fiona Apple (She’s just a girl)
Kate Bush (She has that 70s/80s vibe about her)
Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks (same reason as above)
Franz Ferdinand (Twee)
Belle & Sebastian (TWEE TO THE MAXX)
Pulp (Sneak, but I don’t gaf)
The Cranberries (Also sneak, but I got to represent the motherland)
Florence + the Machine (Serving Manic-Pixie-Dream-Girl realness, also ginger)
Sufjan Stevens (IDK she’s chill like that)
Mazzy Star (Because I know she collects crystals)
Katy Perry (Guilty pleasure)
Like i said this is extreamly biased and mainly full of my favorite artists, But me and Rachel are basically the same person so it’s all good!

I have so many feelings about Grover and his Uncle Ferdinand.
And you are going to hear them all.
Okay so. I don’t know why as a long-term PJO fan this didn’t occur to me until tonight when I watched Ep. 3 of the show, but…
The first time Uncle Ferdinand is mentioned, Grover started off just talking about his uncle to break tension. To give a fun fact about where they were, and what that means to him. (Mostly because he is nervous and is the equivalent of a teenager and teens love nothing more than to say nothing, the most unsettling shit, or whatever will conveniently draw attention away from whatever problem is going on)
This changes once we get to Medusa’s. He is more worried about Annabeth and Percy, and completely forgets about his rambles about his lost Uncle... Until they reach the basement where they are trying to escape. You get to see Grover’s despair at his Uncle’s demise. You can hear it in his voice when he talks about how he doesn’t look scared, not like the other statues. He sounds bittersweet, proud in a miserable way.
But what sticks with me the most is this—
Grover, sweet Grover, didn’t know where his Uncle Ferdinand failed.
He had no way of knowing when and where his Uncle perished. He says it quite frankly when he says his comment about how “he didn’t even make it past Trenton”.
He knew that his Uncle had failed to find Pan, of course. He never came back. But he didn’t know just how quickly he failed.
Which leads me to this fuckin’ heartbreaking realization:
Grover stares at his Uncle Ferdinand’s statue. He obviously is devastated, and proud, in equal measures. But he stares at the statue.
Why?
Not just because it’s his Uncle Ferdinand, no— he stares because he believes this will be his fate too. Not necessarily the statue part, but the failure part. He doesn’t have confidence that he can help Percy and Annabeth.
I’m sure by the end of the Book 1/Season 1, Uncle Ferdinand’s fate won’t haunt him too much…
…until he leaves on his own quest for Pan. Until he’s caught by Polyphemus, the Cyclops. Until he’s frantically undoing his “hard work” every night, praying Polyphemus doesn’t see through his disguise.
Do you think he wonders what’s the worst fate, while he unravels his wedding veil in the Cyclops’ lair: statue, unwilling bride, or snack?

The name “Rowan Underwood” suddenly appeared in my mind, and now I really want to read a Marauders-era-type story about the brash and daring satyr named Rowan, alongside his wisecracking and clever younger brother, as they go on adventures defending the Wild, helping and being helped by demigods, and attacking monsters with seed bombs that actually explode, all the while trying to do great deeds to prove themselves worthy of their searchers licenses. They dream of one day setting off as a team and finding Pan together! Definitely nothing bad ever happens to them.

HUH.
i guess i should have been tipped off in the very first episode, when sally questioned the assumption that medusa is a monster. that they were gonna tie medusa more thematically to sally
but they made smelly gabe both more fun to watch and less shitty, (which do not necessarily go hand in hand), and it really made me think they werent gonna have sally kill him. but they are Playing Up the parallels between sally and medusa *hard* (which honestly... the parallels always existed and it astonishes me that i never noticed before. huge props to whoever decided to make it so much more concrete) which makes very little sense unless sally DOES kill smelly gabe.
maybe theyre gonna have sally do something else, but either way its Gonna involve medusa and Hopefully it involves murder and i am Intrigued

list of things that made me scream in pjo episode 3
Percy picking grover because he trusts him not to betray him!!! THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS OK
Luke still comes off as so likable and inconspicuous that whole convo he had with percy and the shoes i just
GROVER AND THE CONSENSUS SONG I CANT
annabeth staring at the different flavors of candy in the gas station and not being able to pick and just buying all of them. Thats the annabeth we deserve
ANNABETHS KNIFE APPEARANCE ALERT and a fury is IMMEDIATELY killed
uncle ferdinand foreshadowing……………
When annabeth and percy start arguing in the woods and grover tries to change the subject by talking about his uncle and they both completely ignore him. I LOVE GROVER SO MUCH
the bickering in this episode is ON POINT by the way
like the stuff theyre arguing about makes sense. Yes i would be concerned about those things too
ESPECIALLY since theres such a focus put on trust (esp after percy learns that someone is going to betray him) and percy and annabeth are arguing about stuff theyve lied or havent told each other about???? Sorry that might be skipping ahead a bit but GOD is that the good stuff
i love that they changed how the three of them ended up going into auntie em’s because before it was a little concerning that none of them figured out it was medusa. Plus having a fury outside just adds to the tension a perfect amount i think, because it really traps them in there
all the discussion about the gods and what medusa talks to percy about in the kitchen - YES MAKE ME HATE THEM!! All of this is adding up to lukes motivations making so much sense in the end
ALSO!! Them harkening back to sallys line in the first episode when she tells percy that not all heroes look like heroes and not all monsters look like monsters - they brought it back so perfectly. Percy wanting to trust medusa because of what his mom said, medusa calling Poseidon a monster, ALL OF IT is so good
When theyre down in the basement and grover puts on the shoes and then just fucking. Flies away and disappears into the darkness yelling a little. and annabeth and percy just kind of helplessly watch him go before being like - welp i guess that plans not working. That was peak comedy
them using annabeths hat on medusa and then using it to kill alecto THEY WERE SO SMART FOR THAT!!! Also percy just the invisible severed head was a hilarious concept to me
when percy suggests burying the hat in the ground with the hat on to make sure no one bad finds it and annabeth just!!! Agrees!!! And then grover has to be like no that hats important to her its a gift from her mother!!! And then percys like well we’ll find another solution then. That whole scene was good yes i liked that
also annabeth revealing that grover was her protector too and percy asks about it and grover just changes the subject and doesnt answer. He is the KING of avoidance
also grover finally interrupting annabeth and percy when they start fighting and giving his whole speech about getting along. That wouldve felt a little cheesy and preachy and out of place from anyone else but considering grover tried to get them to sing the consensus song a few hours earlier i fully believe that he would say that
I AM IMPERTINENT
Why the fuck wasnt there a lin manuel maranda jumpscare warning. I couldve used one of those
but actually all the jokes in this episode were so on point. Like percy calling drachmas chuckie cheese tokens. And him arguing about voting on the bus. Anyways
10/10 episode i will be rewatching like eight times before next tuesday.

My thoughts on pjo episode three, spoilers if you haven’t seen it
The flying shoes look so cool!? I don’t know how I’m going to see Luke betray Percy at the end honestly like I’m gonna cry
“Or they’re from Chucky Cheese” lmao Percy this is why I love you
Literally everything about Medusa I loved so much, I really like how she wasn’t presented as completely evil, they showed a different version of her that I think was really important to show.
Young percabeth bickering lol I feel like I never realized how much they didn’t get along in the book, but I think it’s definitely amplified in the show. It will just make it all the better when they realize they both have massive crushes on each other
Grover’s song 😭
Grover was such an icon this episode I love him he really is the glue holding their team together, and having him see his Uncle Ferdinand made me so sad. I feel like in the book I remember it being played off as more of a joke, but in the show it was a really touching moment for him to have and I think it brought all three of them closer.
Percy admitting he feels alone 😭😭😭 no Percy my sweet boi I’m gonna cry
“I am impertinent.” You own it incredibly well Percy and we love you
I’m gonna be honest, I’m not comparing the show to the books as much in my head anymore, I feel like the show is its own separate version of canon that’s meant to be a revised version of the story, it’s its own separate thing while also staying true to the essence of what the books were. Does that make sense? It’s nothing like the movies, which basically copped the general idea and made a completely new thing, which was not what we wanted. It’s taking the story, the characters, the themes, and putting them in a new format that’s different in its own right, while keeping the foundation that the books laid out, and I applaud you for this Uncle Rick.
Bonus: Hermes jumpscare
