The global TFR has more than halved over the past 70 years, from around five children for each female in 1950 to 2.2 children in 2021. 🤔

The current "fertility crisis" is not a crisis. It's a sign of an empowered and educated middle class who can now choose to not become an accidental parent at the mean age of 15. The correct way to label it would be "workers shortage". But this the economy runners will not allow, for the following reasons.
Ever noticed how the only scapegoat of the government when fertility rates are low is "hey, who's gonna put money in the rent pot" when even that argument just REEKS of selfishness? The government wants your taxes for itself to spend. It doesn't care about you as an individual (see the flaw here?), otherwise the USA would stop believing in a concept of market regulation that doesn't work when the market is run by greedy white men who only become richer by the minute, and intervene to help the 99% who are struggling.
The state depicts the lowering population increase as a you-problem because it wants more workers so it can earn taxes money off of your back. It could take out of its own funds to help the old when the available workers pyramid is narrowing, but instead it shamelessly even CUTS funds from the old who've worked to earn a fair rent because they won't fight back (from personal experience).
Whenever you hear the news fearmongering away once again, know that you're not WRONG for choosing to be childless. And if you do want a child in the future, I implore you to consider adoption!

Japan’s population has been on the decline since 2008. The problem this causes is that a country’s GDP is dependent on an active workforce. Many countries have tried to address falling fertility rates. The success of these initiatives is inconclusive and the cost per child tends to be high. Two main options are spending more on healthcare so that the older generation can continue to work, with the other option being, relying on immigration. Or perhaps governments will turn to a robot workforce. What do you think?

The Risks of a Society with a Declining Birth Rate
In the latest episode of ‘Lest We Forget Historical’ with Lillian Cauldwell, the conversation turns to the stark decline in birth rates among American women. In a recent interview, potential vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance remarked, “If your society does not have enough children to replace itself, that is a profoundly dangerous and destabilizing thing.” One might wonder, is it dangerous…

FATAL LOSSES
Throughout the West and beyond we are witnessing a steep decline in marriage and birth rates. Greece’s birth rate fell by 30 per cent from 2011 to 2021 to under 84,000 per year, slipping below the death rate. Prime Minister Mitsotakis said that in effect the country recorded just one birth per two deaths in 2022. Greece is now facing the possibility of becoming the first contemporary country to…

“Demography is Destiny”…
… and Europe’s Destiny Dwindles. The quotation is borrowed from Auguste Comte (1798 – 1857), the reputed originator of the study of ‘sociology’, after having experienced the French Revolution. The polities of the defined continent of Europe (excluding Russia, which lies in two continents) contain 7.6% of the world’s population in 2023, as estimated by the World Factbook of the CIA. And the…

Raise awareness of the impact of demographic trends on families.
Tumblr media
In late 2022, the world’s population has reached eight billion people. Characterised by the United Nations Secretary-General as a ‘milestone in human development’ this landmark event illustrates major advancements in health extending human lifespans. Population growth is to continue albeit at a decreasing rate. It is projected to reach 9.8 billion in 2050 and 11.2 in 2100 rising concerns about the prospects of sustainable urbanization and management of climate change.
Demographic change is one of the most important megatrends impacting our world and the life and well-being of families worldwide. Demographic trends are mostly shaped by fertility and mortality patterns. Declining fertility rates result in benefits for families as they are more able to invest in their children’s health and education which in turns helps with poverty reduction and better socio-economic development. Research indicates that decreasing fertility also increases women’s labour participation. On the other hand, fertility declines results in smaller families which are less likely to cope with care and other household obligations. As such in time of unemployment or illness, families have fewer members to rely on. Moreover, low fertility rates may undermine labour forces and social structures triggering drastic responses with hard to predict consequences for issues raging from social security to gender equality.

Singapore's Total Fertility Rate Plummets to Record Low
Singapore’s total fertility rate dropped to a new low of 1.05 in 2022 despite government efforts to encourage families to have more children. The latest figure is lower than the previous record of 1.1 set in 2020, and Japan’s rate for 2021. Indranee Rajah, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, attributed the decline to factors such as people marrying later, caring for older family members,…

My Questions for the Canadian Immigration Minister
My Questions for the Canadian Immigration Minister
November 5, 2022The Minister announced yesterday that Canada will welcome 500,000 immigrants annually. He said the country needs to move up immigration targets because of the low fertility rate and a million vacant jobs in Canada. But, Mr. Minister, have you fully considered the costs of a sudden surge in immigration, and the impacts on healthcare and housing in Canada. Canada used to welcome a…
