Speaking of Sundance-- Magnolia just picked up Sundance 2017 documentary "Whose Streets?" from director/activist Sabaah Folayan! Congrats to Sabaah (pictured) and her co-director Damon Davis! "Whose Streets?" is a look at the real people behind the headlines and protests in Fergusaon, MO. As the director's statement explains (from film's website) "Every day Americans experience a mediascape that humanizes whiteness, delving into the emotional lives of privileged white protagonists while portraying people of color as two-dimensional (and mostly negative) stereotypes. Why did you decide to work in this industry? I first became enamored with this industry in 1978 after watching two Woody Allen movies, Interiors and Manhattan. I loved the fact that he used film to delve into philosophical questions and issues related to the universal themes of life. I wanted to do that too. Trish Marbury on facebook (a long story & battle with the facebook name police, hoping to get my true social media name back someday) . Put the final touches on the final final final draft of the feature screenplay, Stronger Than Pretty, which I wrote with Actor-Producer-Writer Jaret Martino. It's loosely based on the story of his mom, a woman who ultimately finds the power within herself to be free of a bad marriage and be the woman she wants to be, not the woman tradition and society says she should be. We're currently in pre-production, and very excited to get started on the feature, after the response and awards we've received from our short of the same name. . Also just finished, with Director-Writer, C Fitz, the first draft of a narrative pilot for her award winning documentary, Jewel's Catch One, which I Associate Produced. So we have a few more rewrites of that and then the rest of the first season to get finished. . Then I have a new book to finish writing; aaaaaand I wrote an Indie superhero movie, Yugo Girl! It's the script that won the fellowship and which qualified me to join WGAW. I would love to see that script get made, especially after all the buzz about Wonder Woman. . And, of course, I would love to direct, because I went to film school! . . .
