Six years have passed...
You parked your small car outside your large flat complex, switched off the engine and reached around to shake the sleeping toddler splayed out on your backseat. "Zo-zo, wake up, we're here…" You murmured quietly, jolting your daughter till she stretched out and opened her wide brown eyes.
Zoe, your adorable five-year-old, moved her chocolaty hair back from her face and smiled out the window. "Are we going to live here, mummy?" She asked, innocently, turning to face you.
"That's right, little one," you winked, jingling the golden metallic key to your new London home in front of her glittery eyes and pleasantly surprised face at the key in your hand.
It had always been your desire to leave your hometown and move to the big city to become a painter, but when you became pregnant with Zoe, you traded one dream for another. Then, after seeing the comic strips you created for your local newspaper, a large budget from illustrating firm companies who have worked made you reached your another dream job, flower shop. You and Zoe had finally arrived for your new adventure.
Climbing out of the car, you checked on the small trailer tied to the rear of your car and then assisted Zoe in getting out, managing her happy bounces as you both entered the tall building. The elevator was out of commission, but your unit was only on the first floor. "Have you considered what colour you want to paint your room?" You already knew the answer, but it made Zoe enthusiastic about the flat and helped her forget about her homesickness.
"Every colour! Like a big rainbow!" She roared excitedly, wheeling you through the corridor until you reached the white front door of your new flat. Zoe grabbed your arm before you could insert the key. "I want to do it, please!" She pleaded, leaping up and down on your arm.
You smiled as you handed her the key and stood back to watch as your young child climbed up onto her tiptoes to reach the keyhole, peering at it intently. She squealed with delight as she unlocked the door and went inside.
"IT'S SO BIG, MUMMY!" From inside, you could hear her scream.
You removed your shoes and followed her into the open-plan living room and kitchen. It was already fully furnished, which was ideal for you and Zoe starting over, with dark grey velvet sofas, cream walls, and a new modern kitchen. It lacked a few finishing touches, such as photos and books, but it served as a wonderful canvas for painting.
"Do you like it, my love?" You asked, and your daughter swooped up into your arms and sat on your hip in one rapid movement.
"It's fantastic! Mummy!” She shouted brightly once again, wrapping her arms around your neck and clutching you hard, her tiny head tucked into the crook of your neck.
This was it - your fresh beginning. The previous six years had not been easy: being kicked out of your home and moving in with your grandfather, trying to raise Zoe while working to support yourself. But waking up with your gorgeous baby tugging on your hair and seeing her toothy grin as soon as you opened your eyes was reason enough to keep going. You wanted Zoe to have the finest life possible. She was your whole universe.
You carried Zoe around the tiny flat, cradling her close to your body and grinning from ear to ear. Zoe was full of decorating ideas as you proceeded through the rooms, advising you which walls should be particular colours and where her bed should go in her room. The flat didn't yet have any of your stuff, but you knew that once they were there, it would instantly seem like yours.
"Welcome home, little one," you murmured as you stumbled backwards into your bedroom and landed pleasantly on your new bouncy bed. "Welcome back home." You started tickling Zoe after you were settled on the bed, enjoying how loud her giggles filled the room. It sounded like home right away.
Zoe sat up on your stomach, a troubled expression on her gorgeous face. "Where's Mr Snuggles?" It was rare for Zoe to be without her cherished fuzzy bear. "We can't move in without Mr. Snuggles!" She was hopping off the bed and racing out of the room in an instant, most likely heading back down to the car to grab her teddy.
"Home sweet home," you whispered quietly, giving yourself a minute of calm before shuffled off the bed to join up with your daughter.
Tumblr media
"Mummy, are you sure Mr Snuggles can't come to school with me?" Your daughter questioned sweetly as the two of you approached Zoe's school's roadway. She was a little nervous because it was her first day.
You smiled down at her as you looked down. She looked gorgeous in her new school uniform, complete with a red and white frock and knee-high socks. You'd already snapped a million shots of her this morning. "But I only enrolled you in school?" You mocked. "Mr Snuggles will not have a desk or a peg to hang his belongings."
She looked up at you and began batting her eyelids. "But he really wants to learn, too," she pleaded, attempting to melt your heart with her charm.
'Like her father,' a small voice in the back of your mind muttered, echoed.
For a brief moment, your heart slowed, as it did every time Zoe did something that reminded you of your best friend, Sherlock. She began to resemble her father as she grew older, from her inability to sit still or stop talking to the way her smile or laugh lighted up her entire face. She possessed all of his best attributes and wrapped them in a pretty little bow with some of yours.
You eventually caved, giving up to what she desired. "Okay… Mr. Snuggles can go to school," you sighed.
Zoe yanked her hand away from yours and began spinning in circles on the pavement, hugging her teddy and cheering joyously. "Thank you, Mummy," she laughed as she wrapped her arms around your legs.
You brushed your fingers through her unkempt hair and began rushing her down the street. Zoe's first day at her new school began in less than ten minutes, and you didn't want her to be late. "But he can only stay for today, deal, little one?"
She nodded enthusiastically, grasping your hand and nearly dragging you up the street to the school's gates. You should have guessed Mr Snuggles would calm her fears.
When you arrived at the gates, there was a constant stream of children racing inside the building, laughing and playing with one another, while their parents stood back and observed. You knelt in front of your daughter, adjusted the strap of her rucksack and looked her in the warm brown eyes. "Do you want Mummy to come with you to the classroom?" You said, caressing her rosy cheek in your palm.
"Don't worry, Mummy!" She exclaimed, shaking her head away from your grasp. "I'm a big girl!"
You exhaled quietly, thinking of how mature your daughter had become. At her last school, she nearly clamped herself onto your leg and refused to let go for half an hour. But there were no tears or tantrums this time. "Be a good girl today," you whispered quietly, kissing her on the cheek.
With a heavy heart, you stood up and wrapped your arms about your body as your little one skipped through the school gates, pausing every ten feet to look back and wave at you before disappearing into the building with a bright smile on her face.
From the moment you found out you were pregnant, it had always been just the two of you. She was a big girl now, brave and confident as she skipped into her new school. You'd have to stop calling her 'little one' soon.
After ensuring that she was safe in the school, you returned the way you came and proceeded to your car. Today was more than just Zoe's first day.
You arrived early at your flower shop after managing the city's traffic: a tall grey structure surrounded by a hundred others that all looked the same. You decided to go to a nearby coffee shop and get a caffeine fix before your first day began. You quickly approached the queue, placed your order and then stood back to wait for your drink.
“Y/N?”
Apart from a few people you met when renovating the shop and a handful of neighbours in your apartment block, you didn't know anyone in the city, which is why you were astonished to hear someone calling your name from behind you.
In the end, it was the last person you expected to see. “Sherlock?” For the first time in six years, you faltered in shock, your gaze resting on your best friend.
"Hi there," he responded nervously. He's wearing a wonderful suit with a gigantic coat and a blue navy scarf, his curly hair is even curlier, and everything is exactly as stated in newspapers.
But there was no response from you. You watched the way he scratched the back of his head in many different kinds of emotions beneath your chest until he stepping closer and wrapping you in his warmth embrace.
Your eyelids closed as your ears completely caught his low sigh; all you realise is that his palm stroked your hair and you felt your head snuggle against his neck.
That's when you began hugging him back, as the air over you two appeared so tighten to breathe.

Unwind (Modern!AU) (Ebenezer/Constance)
A short little fic about being warm and cozy because it is WAYYY too cold to go outside where I am, haha.
Rated PG-13 for (descriptions of) nudity, and suggestive themes. Just two adult sharing a bath, haha~
Tumblr media
The door to Ebenezer Scrooge’s London flat opened, and immediately, the biting cold of the outdoors streets and the stress clients and bank reports was forgotten.
It was Friday, and he was arriving home amidst a heavy snowfall, and his phone already silenced. The only company he cared to converse with that night was right beside him, her arm threaded through his while he keyed into the apartment.
“Bloody hell, what a week," he sighed.
The words practically melted into existence, the exhaustion that permeated his being done-deep and caustic as acid.
A softer, feminine voice followed his exhausted one. “At least it’s over for today.”
That was true. The sunset brought respite from the bustle of running London’s most prestigious private banking business.
Millions in funds exchanged hands over his desk (and through their office's Wi-Fi network) every day; even after decades in the practice, he still wasn’t used to it. That wasn’t to say he was ungrateful for all the business. Far from it. After all, it was how he was able to send six-digit donation numbers into philanthropic and humanitarian efforts across London and beyond. Yet, it was overwhelming some days, he had to admit. It actually hurt to ponder sometimes, the sheer responsibility of it all permeating his mind with the precision of a dental drill.
At least, just like his fiancée has said, the trials were over. For today.
As if to provide him further relief, Constance drifted from his side to help remove his coat. “I know. How about we share a bubble bath?”
There were few better ways to melt away the stress of the day than filling up his flat’s clawfoot tub and soaking in it.
After she removed his Loro Piana black wool trench coat, he motioned to return the favor. He slid the fur-trimmed Vivienne Westwood coat off her shoulders and propped in on the coatrack, then gently dusted the spare snowflakes from her fiery locks of hair.
“That might be the best proposition I’ve heard all day,” he teased, leaning in to kiss her cheek. Her laugh as his lips caressed her frozen skin was nothing short of musical.
He was feeling less tense already.
They walked hand-in-hand across the living room to the flat's spacious, ensuite bathroom. Along the way, the left their shoes near the door and their bags (two suitcases, one charcoal black and the other a freshly-baked shade of brown) propped against the master's bedroom's ajar door.
"Now, this is one of the best parts of coming home," she said as she approached the bathroom's spacious vanity. She reached back to remove the bobby pins and elastic that held her hair into a slicked-back bun. With a sigh, she let her hair down and bent over her knife her fingers through her copper hair, tousling it into messy glory. “Oooh, that feels so nice.”
Ebenezer gave her a teasing look as he walked to the tub and began to run the water at the temperature he knew they liked. He gave the cold water tap a 45-degree twist, and the hot water one three turns of the wrist. He checked the temperature with a swipe of his fingers. Sure enough, it was perfect.
Reaching up to a golden tray with marble handles that was perched on the windowsill over the tub, he produced an orange blossom bath bomb and passion fruit bubble oil. He tossed the brightly colored orb into the water, and it began to tumble and froth immediately. Mere seconds passed before the room was filled with the aromatic blend of orange and vanilla.
One last drizzle of the oil made the water glisten warmly in anticipation of its guests.
Once that was done, he turned back to see Constance had undressed fully, her skirt, hose and blouse all melding together in a pool at her feet.
They’d been together many months, and yet, he still found himself agape at her beauty. He knew he would always be stunned into a state of disbelief by her elegance.
She was tanner than him by a few shades. She seemed to absorb the sun’s rays effortlessly and just glow from inside out, from the top of her copper-colored head to the tips of her pedicured toes. In addition to being glowing like a goddess, she was sculpted like one as well. It was difficult to not leer, though she’d given him enthusiastic permission to do so. The tabloid writers that wrote smartass and derogatory captions about the cellulite on her bum and thighs didn't have a clue about womanly beauty, as far as he was concerned.
When she glanced over her shoulder and saw him staring, still perched at the edge of the tub, she giggled and walked over to him. Even after all these years, she still walked like a model, miles of bronze skin and tumbling locks on full display with each sway of her hips. Not to mention, best of all, a radiant smile that made his inside weak and his heart ache in longing.
She stopped before him, his eyes level with the tips of her ample breasts. Gently, she guided his face up with one hand while the other worked the top buttons of his shirt. It was only when her hand could no longer reach the lower buttons and she cleared her throat that he stood to help her. His own hands lofted to undo the remaining pearl snaps, but she had the honor of pushing the crisp white fabric off his wide shoulders and down those lightly muscled forearms.
Watching the planes of hair-dusted skin move as he shifted out of his shirt made her eyes glaze with mesmerized intrigue. When he was under the adoration of her lake-colored gaze, he felt more desirable than he’d ever felt before. Regardless of how he felt about himself on any given day, (with his wrinkles, his salt-and-pepper hair) she ogled him like a seven-course meal, rendering any and all insecurities beyond moot.
She made him feel like an Adonis, and she was his Aphrodite, pining over him and caressing him into embraces that were possible to resist.
With his shirt gone, her hands rested atop his chest, fingers tapping his flesh in rhythm to his heartbeat. He reached down and undid his belt, watching her flesh prickle with gooseflesh and the clasp clinked with release. One hand tugged the belt from his pant loops and tossed it to the marble floor. The other undid the clasp and zipper at the crotch of his trousers.
“That’s it,” Constance urged, fingers giving his pectorals a squeeze. “Just like that.”
Good Lord, he almost moaned at the praise! Bending to kick the pants away and tug off his socks, she bent down and placed a kiss on the bare back of his neck. “Glorious, glorious man.”
When he unfurled upright, an arm went about her waist and hauled her close for a kiss.
Even her kisses tasted of warmth, amber and womanly musk. Maker, how was she real?
As their lips and mouths melded, Constance hooked her thumbs into the band of his boxer briefs and gave them a swift tug down. He broke the kiss against to ease out of those as well, but immediately rejoined her, which earned a gasp of delight. Her arms wound about his neck, fingers loosening the pomade-slicked coiffure in his silvery hair.
Upon breaking the kiss for air, he gazed upon her pleasantly dazed expression with confidence and delight. “My glorious, glorious goddess.”
Taking a ginger step backward, he guided her toward the tub with an extended arm, their hands remaining clasped together for the entirety of the short journey. The body heat from their grasp made the warm of her engagement band practically brand him, and he adored it.
She followed like a snake charmed by a flute and slinked into the large tub first. She looked at home in the glittering water, like Venus rising from the tides. He followed, filling the void of space beside her.
As they eased into the steaming water, the tension from the day melted away as she nestled into his lap. Using his chest as a pillow, she leaned back, and he idly toyed with her hair, peppering random kissed along her face, neck and shoulders.
He flexed his long legs out, feeling the hot water ease the stress out of his muscles almost instantly. The feeling of her body, alive and breathing atop him, brought even more peace to his soul.
The room was silent, the only sounds coming from the London traffic outside the fogged window and the occasional sound of water lapping at the edges of the tub when one shifted their weight. One could almost go to sleep. Hell, he likely would have, if there wasn’t also a light ache of hunger in his stomach.
“What do you want for dinner, love?” he asked gently, pressing a kiss to the shell of her ear.
“Hm…” she hummed, eyes falling shut. “How about we try that new Caribbean takeaway place? I saw a sign in the window saying they deliver.”
His head fell back in relief. “Perfect.”
She giggled, lifting her foot out of the tub playfully. She watched the perfumed bubbles roll down her calf in shimmering trails. “Not in the mood to leave the flat?”
“Not the flat. Not this tub. Not you.”
Two strong arms lifted out of the water, soap bubbles running in rivulets down his hair-dusted skin, he wrapped his arms around her belly. His hands rested over the pudge there (something she’d felt much more comfortable about showing him after having some time to breathe from the modeling industry). His lips skimmed the back of her shoulders, running over the water droplets that lingered there.
“Hmm…” she said, peachy glossed lips grinning. “That might be the best proposition I’ve heard all day.”
The jest earned an impish growl. His grip tightened, giving her only a hint at his intentions. “Come here, you minx.”
As expected, he didn’t let her rest long. With swoon-worthy ease, he rolled his body so that she slipped beneath him in the tub. His wider frame covered her easily, arms caging her. He was aided by his hands finding purchase against the edge of the tub, despite how the passion fruit oil from the bath had otherwise slicked their bodies. That, he thought with a smirk, would be helpful in other ways.
Head thrown back in laughter, she welcomed this bout of necking, basking in the glory of him, and the warm cocoon around them, all the while.

When you leave, I cry on the inside

28 November, 2018
The train ride felt excruciatingly long.
Cate and Este sat facing each other in their seats, talking occasionally, but Cate was busy on her laptop and Este had her nose tucked into a book.
“I’m getting sick of riding the train to London, to be honest,” complained Cate. Este removed her left Airpod to listen to her. “It feels like it moves slower every time I’m on it.”
She had been coming into London a handful of times a month for work, and since it was so much busier than her hometown, it gave her constant headaches. The company she worked for had a branch of offices in Manchester, where Cate was hired, but it was based in London; so, a particular merch collection forced her to travel down much more often than she wanted to. But, she was just as excited as Este to be at the album release show; so she didn’t mind being in the city this time around.
Matty graciously offered Este to bring a friend, so of course, her flatmate was tagging along. He sent her a couple messages to let her know that her and Cate’s name would be on the guest list. Other than those few to let Este in on the details of the concert, not many words had been shared between the two since he’d been over to her flat. Little time had passed, and Este knew Matty would be super busy with the album release, so she didn't feel the need to reach out. Even though she finished reading You Are Here earlier in the week and surprisingly found it really eye opening and worth the read.
“Just remember, in an hour or so we’ll be all warm and cosy in my nan’s house. And she’ll be force feeding us a bunch of food,” Este reminded her. “Plus, my granddad finally got his hearing aids fixed so you won’t have to repeat everything you say until he understands it!”
Cate laughed and continued clicking away on her laptop while responding. “Are you sure they’re okay with us staying there? We could’ve easily just booked a hotel, I don’t want to be intruding.”
“Seriously, they love hosting guests. They’d never feel like we were intruding. I haven’t visited overnight in a while too, so I’m sure they’ll enjoy the company,” Este assured her.
Continuing in and out of conversation, they drowned their ears in music through their headphones. Then, the journey came to a close, and they rifled through the bodies in the underground to head over to Florencia and José’s house. The elderly couple welcomed them with open arms and, like Este assumed, immediately fed them a hearty dinner. José, Este’s grandfather, sat in his usual spot on their leather reclining chair to face the television while Florencia and the two girls sat at the dining room table. Both had full stomachs.
“What are you two in town for again? A show?” Florencia asked, struggling to remember what Este had explained over the phone.
“Yeah, a concert. It’s Matty’s band, actually. You remember Matty, right?” she posed, although she was sure her nan remembered him. When calling her about coming down to London, Este brought up the fact that she was his nurse back in 2011 and even sent the photo her way. Florencia fully gushed about how wonderful he was—showing pure excitement that they’d managed to meet again years later in a Starbucks, and that he’d  met her granddaughter. Este recalls her using the words ‘a fine young man’ to describe him.
“Oh yes, of course! You know, you should invite him to the party in February. I think he’d enjoy himself.”
Cate and Este both laughed at the craziness of her suggestion. They had been extensively planning her and José’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration—the party Flo was referring to. It was a dinner and dance event with a program, a DJ, and the works. Most things Florencia mentioned as of late had all somehow looped back around to be about the party, so José was used to it. It was practically a second wedding.
“Lola, he’ll be touring next year. I don’t think he’ll have the time to come to your party,” Este said, a laugh still evident in her voice.
Her grandmother shrugged. “Doesn’t hurt to ask, anak. He can be your date.”
Este went red and covered her face with her hands.
“I thought I was supposed to be your date?!” Cate joked.
They finished helping Florencia clean up in the kitchen and then went up to the room they were sharing, picking their outfits for the following night. Both Este and Cate only brought a couple of options, as their bags were quite small for the two-night stay.
“Fuck, I should’ve brought that red top with the stars,” complained Cate. “That would go so well with these pants.”
Este felt like they were in school again, deciding what to wear before a night out and emptying all of their garments onto the floor. They continued the ritual, holding up various pieces up to their bodies to try and build ideas. But, Este’s phone buzzed just as they were coming to a decision.
[este.manansala]: trumanblack: Doors are at 7 tomorrow btw, so if you show up around then security will take you back so you can have a drink and meet the others before the show :) If u want to!
Cate took a second to read the notification on Este’s phone and then looked up at her. “He’s inviting us backstage for drinks before the show?”
Figuring that standing at side stage would require going back there anyway, Este wasn’t too shocked. Spending time with Matty in person let her come to terms with how aggressively human he truly was, and him reaching out and inviting them to the show helped distract her from the irrational insecurity that their friendship didn't mean anything to him.
“Yeah, I guess. He did say that there was room at the side of the stage for ‘friends and family’, so I assumed we’d be back there,” she responded casually.
“I feel like we might need to put more thought into these outfits now.”
✴ 29 November, 2018
The two of them did not consider the long queue of girls that would be inevitably waiting to be let into the venue. Too considerate to cut to the front, which they were most likely allowed to do, Este and Cate shivered in the cold winter air. It was moving fast, thankfully, since everyone was hurrying to get a good spot; so after repeatedly standing and then shuffling forward, they got to the front.
“Um, I think I’m on the list. Este Manansala?” she asked the bouncer nervously, insecure that the girls behind them could hear her and would judge them for holding up the line. He looked over to another man with a clipboard, who scanned his eyes over his list and then nodded at the girls. A ‘thanks’ was thrown from the smiling girls to the bouncer and the people who let them in, before a security guard welcomed them into the rooms further into the club.
Este’s hands were clammy as they walked up to the door that had a small ‘The 1975’ sign on the front, aware of the fact that they were about to be socialising with heaps of new people. Cate followed behind her as they entered, seeing a couple of black leather couches and small coffee tables. There was a bar along the back wall with various bottles of liquor and a stack of glass cups. Buzzing conversation filled the room as people mingled familiarly, some lounged on the furniture and others standing in small circles. They decided to quietly keep to themselves until anyone approached them, standing together at a tall cocktail table.
Matty’s fingers fought with the curls framing his face as he pushed them away, chatting casually with his brother. When their conversation phased out slowly, he found himself scanning the room—seemingly at the perfect time—as his eyes caught Este’s brown ones.
Slightly nervous, he shot her a smile and observed the redhead standing with her. That must be Cate, he thought to himself. Matty weaved his way around each small exchange happening between the handful of people in the room, and finally reached the two girls.
“Este,” he said with a sigh of relief, happy that she’d shown. “I’m so glad you’re here.”
She grinned and welcomed him in for a hug. “I’m so glad to be able to see the show,” said Este as they broke apart, Matty casually embracing Cate after she continued. “This is my best friend, Cate.”
“Lovely to meet you,” started Matty. “Este's told me you do graphic design?”
The conversation immediately took off as he and Cate delved into topics surrounding her job and its artistic components. He was knowledgeable about the subject and had an awfully distinct taste, directly referencing certain movements or time periods that stood as inspiration for the art he made. Cate appreciated Matty’s efforts to get to know her style and to understand the drive behind her career, even showing him examples of her previous work.
Then, a man so tall they had to tilt their heads upwards to look at him approached. Matty’s eyes lit up as he appeared, excited for Ross to meet them. “Oh mate—these are my friends Este and Cate. From Manchester,”
“Ross,” he introduced himself, looking at each of them and smiling. “How do you guys know each other?”
Este made eye contact with Matty. He raised his eyebrows, encouraging her to explain instead of him. “I work at a book shop in Manchester that Matty comes into whenever he’s in town, so since then we’ve kind of started our own two-person book club over Instagram DMs! Which is, now that I say it, probably the lamest explanation I could have possibly chosen,” she said, embarrassed, scratching her temple.
“Please never call our friendship a ‘book club’ ever again. That's horrible,” Matty defended. “I’d hope that by now it’s more than that,” he said, making goosebumps raise on Este's arms. “Her nan was also my nurse when I got my gallbladder removed.”
The bluntness in his voice made Este and Cate giggle, Ross clearly used to his antics. “Cool story, mate,” he responded sarcastically. “Can we hear more about that one surgery you had like ten years ago? We’re all dying to know!”
“First of all, it was only seven years ago. Second of all, shut the fuck up,” Matty corrected.
Small talk circled the four of them as Este and Cate got to know Ross and vice versa. Hearing the familiar name while eavesdropping from one of the couches adjacent to the group, George butted in loudly, already slightly buzzed. “You’re Este?”
Another gigantic man presented himself and hung on Este’s right shoulder. “Yeah,” she said, confused about how he knew her. “And this is Cate, my best friend.”
“Nice to meet you. George,” he said. “I heard the spiel about that book you told Matty to read on the plane a while back. And I’ve got to say, you seem lovely, but that book sounded really fucking weird.”
Este went on to try and defend it, but the rest of the group went on to tease her playfully. Matty eventually dragged Adam over to them as well, the girls finally meeting the entirety of the band behind their dance anthem of late May. These people feel warm and fuzzy, thought Este. They’re the real deal. Her eyes rarely left Matty, though.
The group setting allowed her to study him discreetly, appreciating the recognisable inflections in his speech and casual stage outfit hanging on his body. His ability to completely immerse himself into a point he’d like to make, going on without caring how long it would take to get there. It was peculiar that those traits on other people seemed mundane—but for Matty, they were just reasons for Este to keep listening to what came out of his mouth.
Although she didn’t notice, Matty spent their whole conservation observing her just as closely as she did him. He could tell how much she loved Cate and how they supported each other throughout moments of uncertainty. Este spoke with her hands. Fidgeted with her necklace some more. Always threw her head back when laughing really hard. And even more deeply, Matty took note of her intellect; how she managed to use purposeful language even when the subject was lighthearted or one-off. He indulged in Este as much as he could during the short bursts of time they had together.
When show time neared, the band left to do some last minute preparation, allowing Cate and Este to hold their own for half an hour before it started. They met a few people, most of them in the room being friends of the band—some family—but stayed fairly reserved, not wanting to intrude.
Then, the show began. Their view from the side of the stage was surreal. Este couldn’t recall a show she’d been that close for, peering at Adam from his side. Both her and Cate tried to keep their cool, as the people around them were, but couldn’t help themselves from moving further back for more space to get lost in the music. Este was enthralled by seeing Love It If We Made It live, the experience leaving an even bigger impact on her than the recording.
It was electric, Matty’s performance. She watched him own the stage incredibly comfortably, clearly having years of experience. He seemed at home up there. Like music was his air to breathe. Every person in the room couldn’t peel their eyes away from him.
The short setlist ended far too soon, and the two girls enjoyed themselves purely. “They’re fucking rockstars,” commented Cate. Este agreed as they walked over to the toilets, taking a much needed wee break and wondering what would come next.
“Surely there’s an after party,” Cate suggested, fixing her top in the mirror that hung above the sinks. “Would you want to stick around if he mentions it?”
“I have no idea. The idea of partying with them sort of freaks me out,” Este admitted.
“We’re in this together, babe. If you go down for acting piss drunk then so will I.”
An hour into the post-show party, a fairly intoxicated Matty danced next to George—the DJ for the night. A half-full bottle of wine was gripped in his right hand, and after the emotional release that was their 14 songs performed earlier, they were ready to get fucked up. There are too many people to talk to, thought Matty. Settings like these did bring out his social side, and the conversations he’d been having with everyone at the party were sincere; but they drained him. So, he resorted to dancing. And got increasingly drunk as the night went on.
He was subconsciously disappointed that he hadn’t seen Este yet, assuming her and Cate either took off already or had gotten lost in the sea of bodies filling Pryzm. His eyes tried to focus and recognize them when scanning the room, but the dim and sometimes randomly flashy lights prevented him from coming to any conclusion.
About to give up, Matty finally found her. Dancing with Cate to George’s lively set. Her arms were up in the air, forehead glistening with happy perspiration. They both looked like they were having fun. Thank god, Matty thought, as his worries vanished. The alcohol in his system lifted his feet one after the other to encourage his body over to them. His much less impulsive and much more logical sober-self would have stopped him, but that wasn’t the case this time. Luckily, they were near the edge of the dance floor, so reaching them didn’t take much effort.
Cate saw Matty approaching, eyes widening with excitement and nerves. He was sweet to her, so she had no reason to be unsure, but he was also the man of the night. “Hey!” she greeted him excitedly. “The show was amazing. You guys are amazing,”
Her compliment felt genuine. Matty clutched his hand over his heart, thanking her. “Thank you guys so much for coming. It means a lot, and you know, this new album feels so fresh for us and I think it’s our best work. And I was so confident with releasing the singles, so I can’t wait for everyone to hear the whole album, but tonight really made me nervous, for some reason. So I’m really happy you were here and got to meet the guys and see the show, since you just remind me of Manchester and of humility and the city, so thank you. It feels really grounding. Really, thanks.” He looked between both Este and Cate during his slightly slurred rant, brows furrowed with sincerity, placing his hands on both of their shoulders.
“We were seriously so entranced. And so thankful to even be in a room with that kind of energy,” replied Este, placing her hand kindly on top of his.
The three of them continued to speak highly of each other for a couple of minutes. The loud music drowned out a small portion of their perception, and the liquid courage increased their comfort in one another’s company.
“Do you guys want another drink?” Matty suggested.
Cate shook her head no, already feeling it a little too strongly, but as she looked over to her black-haired friend, she could tell Este wanted another. Asian-glow lit up her cheeks, showing up after the couple of G&T’s she had downed.
Another drink couldn’t hurt. “I won’t say no to that,” Este said. “I can bring you one, Cate, if you want.”
“I’m staying put, to dance. I don’t feel like having to look after a glass. Go ahead though, I’ll be here!”
Matty guided Este through to the bar, his hand hovering over the small of her back; hesitant to make contact. They laughed playfully as they kept the conversation going, both sufficiently and happily drunk. To their surprise, it was quite empty. So, they had a seat on two stools before asking for a G&T for Este, and cracking open another bottle of red for Matty.
“Do you want to know the real reason why I’m glad you enjoyed the show?” he posed with a sliver of sincerity in his voice, but covered it up with the tone of their giggly demeanours.
Este took a sip of her drink. “What, were you lying about what you said earlier? All those niceties like how we ‘ground’ you, or whatever?” she teased and chuckled, watching his face distort as she made fun of his drunken speech.
“No. I wasn’t lying, thank you very much,” Matty confirmed. “But there’s a truer statement that I’m going to tell you right now because my stomach feels warm and tingly from the wine.” He leaned closer, raising his hand to whisper in her ear, as if it was a secret. Este tilted her face away so his voice could reach her ear more easily. “I really care about what you think of me. Like really, really care. I think it’s because I think really highly of you and that you’re like, really cool, so I want you to think I’m cool too.”
She turned to face him, cheeks on fire, the dimple apparent on her left one. “That’s very cute of you, Matty. Thank you.” Este tried hard to contain her smile and appreciation for his kindness, but failed miserably as the giddy grin on her face couldn’t be wiped off, despite trying. This is the second time he’s called me cool. Maybe he actually means it, she thought. Getting into his space, just like he did her, she whispered back, “I do think you’re cool. Don’t worry.”
Matty threw his hand over his heart again, then comically pretended to wipe sweat off his forehead in relief. “Bless!”
Their conversation twisted and turned through topics of both relevance and unimportance. Musical influences, his pants being hemmed a little too short, their primary school experiences, Este’s thoughts on You Are Here, Matty’s non-existent thoughts on On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (since he revealed that he hadn’t even opened it yet).
Forgetting they left Cate on the dance floor, the two of them tried to wrap up their drunken blur of a discussion. But, one more thing popped into Este’s mind, as she chewed on the ice cubes from her now empty glass. “You know what’s funny?”
“What’s funny, Este?”
She laughed to herself, as the warmth in her cheeks had now spread through to her whole abdomen. “I’m staying with my nan, you know, since I’m in London. And when I mentioned that I’m in town to see your gig, she like fully, seriously, told me to invite you to her and my granddad’s 50th wedding anniversary party,” Este admitted as she shook her head in embarrassment, too tipsy to avoid mentioning it.
Matty’s curiosity was displayed on his face. “Has she really?”
“Yes, like actually. Her and my mum have been planning it for months, it’s going to be a dinner and dance, and everything. Renting out a hotel banquet hall to host it,” she explained.
“Tell me a time and a place, I’ll be there. Only for Lola, though.” He beamed at her with a wink as Este smacked his chest and they made way towards Cate.
After dancing for a couple more songs, they decided it was time to take off. Both a bit sloppy, Cate and Este found each band member dispersed throughout Pryzm—giving them a shouty ‘Thank you!’, and a congrats-on-the-new-album hug.
Este stopped at Matty one last time, embracing him with her sweaty arms and pecking his cheek. “Thanks so much, Matty. It genuinely was such a great night. You deserve all the praise.”
A quick inhale with his nose close to Este’s temple made him notice how good she smelled, even after a long night of dancing. He thanked her back, immediately sobering up to get his point across unfeignedly, rubbing her back in assurance and then letting go. They smiled at each other before Este broke their eye contact, and the two girls strolled to the exit, hopping in a cab back to Florencia’s.

But anyway. These are mostly pre canon.
Marty and Jeff lived together from the late 50s until Marty got married, first in a small first floor place over a shop; when rent got steep they moved later to a top floor one-bed flat (I haven’t decided whereabouts yet). The second place was a bit of a shithole and was full of mice and draughts and mould and Jeannie always found it funny that for ages Marty wouldn’t invite her over or even tell her where he lived.
Jeff and Marty met through an ad in a paper where they were both looking for a flatmate. Marty was new to London and didn’t know anyone there; Jeff has lots of friends but wasn’t close enough to anyone/everyone he knew already had settled living arrangements.
Randall & Hopkirk: Private Investigators is the result of many long late night talks from the times they lived out of one room. It started as a running joke between the two of them, where they would pretend to deduce things about strangers and ‘investigate’ the weird comings and goings of their neighbours and occasionally each other, but it’s something Jeff used to want to do as a detective story obsessed kid and it was Jeff who first became serious about the joke.
The joke kind of died, sadly, as there’s nothing like the gruelling hard work of starting a small business and the constant threat of bankruptcy to dampen the humour in it. However, Jeff has done investigations into who is drinking all the tea and making them run out (It’s Marty) (It’s always Marty), and who is stealing cigarettes from him when he had them counted (it’s also Marty).
Their collective financial situation has never been great, but in the early days of the business it was positively dire. Often they couldn’t afford to keep the electricity on and when 1963 rolled on with the coldest winter for 200 years, things were pretty miserable for them.
Jeannie and Jenny are from the rural Lake District.
Jean is the elder by a little over a year.
Their family were upper middle class but the Second World War made things very different financially and growing up, Jeannie and Jenny never experienced the security their parents and grandparents had.
Jeannie has always struggled with undiagnosed dyslexia* but she still did better academically than Jenny did although Jenny was very successful in other ways - she has a good head for business and quickly made herself indispensable at a local business near where she grew up.
Jeannie moved to London for university. I haven’t decided if she completed her degree or what she was studying but I’ll ponder it.
Jeannie and Jenny were close as children but grew apart when they were sent to separate schools when they reached secondary school age. They don’t see each other very often since they live so far away but are trying to reconnect and regain their closeness.
Marty has anxiety (shocker) and OCD. He’s always been like this although it goes through cycles where sometimes it is better, sometimes worse. It was particularly bad he was a preteen, when he and Jeff first started the business, and about a year after he and Jeannie were married. It’s also pretty bad after his death lol but it does still fluctuate. Essentially it gets worse every time he has a lot to process and think about.
Jeff and Jean have both witnessed Marty having panic attacks, Jeannie much less than Jeff. This is mostly because Marty makes more of an effort to remove himself so that he won’t upset Jeannie. It’s silly that it’s this way around because Jeff is better at calming Marty down before panic has a chance to set in and Jeannie is better at calming him down during and afterwards so it’s silly that he should avoid her. But hey. Marty IS silly.
Sometimes Jeff and Jeannie tease Marty about his anxieties. Marty doesn’t mind this; even if they are making a little fun of him it reminds him to step back and check if he is being rational.
When he has it, Jeff is the most frivolous spender (of his own money, not the company’s. He’s not an asshole. And also he needs to pay Jeannie). It stresses Marty out to watch but Jeff is pretty certain it’s none of Marty’s business!
Marty and Jeannie met a long time ago but never stayed in touch. Years later, they ran into each other by chance at a party that Jeff was also at, which is when Jeff met Jeannie.
There was a bit of light competition between Marty and Jeff over Jeannie, but nothing serious and nothing like as devastating or threatening as Marty thinks.
Marty’s aunt Clara has been unofficially estranged from the family. Marty gets on with her fine, and has no idea. They briefly exchanged correspondence when he was in his teens. Her invitation to his wedding, however, went mysteriously missing, and neither Jeff nor Jeannie remembered her after Marty’s death.
Marty and Jeannie got married in September 1966 and it rained all day and everyone got soaked and they all had so much fun <3 Marty cried because he was so happy and Jenny gave him her handkerchief. He forgot he had it and gave it to Jeannie later to give to Jenny; Jeannie also forgot, and found it in a drawer some time after Marty died. She kept it for a bit longer but eventually sent it to Jenny.
Marty is from Liverpool (so it’s a cheap shot. I don’t care). Jeff is from London (……see above)
Marty does like the Beatles, a lot, although he keeps it p quiet. His favourite song of theirs is Any Time At All but it’s up against stiff competition. Jeff is less of a fan, partly because Jeff’s favourite song was Roll Over Beethoven and he heard the Beatles cover, didn’t enjoy it, and kind of wrote them off a bit because of it. He does eventually come around to their later work (Marty is smug about this) and he likes George Harrison’s solo stuff. He wishes he had the time and money to learn to play the sitar.
Jeff’s guitar was from his grandfather as a present
Marty’s family can be very intense and as a child Marty was often called on to mediate arguments between his parents. I think he has siblings but I need to consider this further.
I don’t know where I’m at with Jeff’s life before meeting Marty. We know that he was in the army, but in what capacity? I also think Jeff has a sister and she’s quite a bit older than him.
Jeff, Jeannie and Marty are All bisexual. Real bi trio
Jeff smokes weed, although less so than he used to. Sometimes he and Marty would smoke together but unfortunately weed makes Marty insane and terrible to be around so he stopped joining in. Jeff has also tripped on LSD a couple of times (it’s the 1960s, it’s London, Jeff hangs out in the right places for it. All the cool kids are doing it. Marty is NOT a cool kid, but he lives with Jeff so it’s by association. Jeff is also not really a cool kid but he can pass it off).
Marty is forbidden from LSD after the Incident. (It was fine. He locked himself in a bathroom for 6 hours. Jeff was worried. Marty had a fine time. The bathroom has never been so enthusiastically, yet haphazardly, cleaned, and also never so fascinating to look at.)
Marty and Jeannie are both stress-smokers. Marty is trying to cut down, but unfortunately he is always stressed.
Marty is the better fighter. When they got into scrapes while he was alive, Marty did most of any fighting that was required. He’s not amazing at it but he’s better than Jeff. He has a lot of pent up energy. On occasions where they’re both required to fight, Marty would occasionally have to come to Jeff’s aid. They both have very selective memories about this; Jeff thinks it was Marty who needed rescuing more, and Marty is under the impression that he’s a lot better at fighting than he really is.
Marty got his drivers license on the third go, and the mini Austin is his first car.

What are the main differences between the Japanese production and Korean production?
Just the major differences? Hmm...
I suppose to start, one is in Japanese and features mainly Japanese performers (though several Koreans have performed in it as well and taken Japanese stage names while doing it) while the other is in Korean and features mostly Korean performers (I'll get back to you on if any Japanese performers have been in it).
There are all the minute differences in costumes and wigs that you might expect between productions. The Japanese production started off using costumes very similar to the ones used in the European productions, but then deviated into their own specific style (I can only describe it as being kind of flat and sometimes looking like Legos). The Korean production used World Tour costumes their first two runs, but in the current production is using London costumes.
The Japanese production also uses a pre-recorded orchestra when they're not in Tokyo, with the exception of the 2017 stop in Yokohama. This is apparently the policy of all Shiki productions (the company in charge of Phantom in Japan), but they kept an exception for Tokyo, apparently as part of an agreement in the contract. Meanwhile in Korea, the orchestra is live.
The Japanese production will also use the Pegasus statue during 'I Gave You My Music' if the ceiling of the theater is too low, and in fact, this is where the idea of using the Pegasus statue in London came from; if the ceiling is fine, they'll use the Golden Angel. So far as I can tell, the Korean production uses the Golden Angel throughout (though if they ever end up in a theater with a too-low ceiling, maybe they'll do something similar, who knows).
The Japanese production also uses 'Masquerade' choreography from... actually I'm losing track of all the changes to the choreography at this point, but let's just say that there are still lots of lifts and spins involved (which I think a lot of was removed from the choreography in London and Broadway even before the shutdown). The Korean production uses its own mix of dancing that was used pre- and post-shutdown.
Finally, some history. The Japanese production opened in 1988, before many of the lyric and blocking changes that are so familiar to us were implemented (examples: Christine doing limited dancing in Hannibal and 'Masquerade', the added "Help me to say goodbye" in 'Wishing'). They did not add these changes into their show until 2020 or so, so for over 30 years, they basically stuck to the show as it was in 1988, which is why I say they were really old-school. But they have since updated, so don't expect that anymore. The Korean production, meanwhile, has had all the changes that were put forward over the years... with the exception of the changes made for the re-opening of the London and Broadway productions.
So there you have it.

Choosing the Best Removal Companies in London: A Comprehensive Guide
Tumblr media
Relocating can be one of the most stressful experiences in life, whether it’s a move across town or to a new country. It’s not just about boxing up your life; it’s also about ensuring that every part of the transition goes as smoothly as possible. In a fast-paced and busy city like London, where traffic and narrow streets can add to the complexity, choosing the right removal company becomes crucial. Thankfully, London is home to numerous highly-regarded removal companies with expertise in handling moves of all sizes. However, not all removal companies are created equal. Here’s a guide to help you choose the best removal company in London. Best removal companies london
What to Look for in a London Removal Company
When selecting a removal company in London, several factors come into play to ensure that you’re entrusting your belongings to capable hands. Here are some essential things to consider:
Experience and Reputation A company with many years of experience in the industry typically means they’ve built a reputation for reliability. Experience in the field is crucial because London has its own set of challenges, from navigating small streets to managing complex apartment buildings with no lifts. Companies with solid reputations often have numerous positive customer reviews and ratings, making it easier to trust their services.
Licensing and Insurance Always choose a company that is fully licensed and insured. Removal companies should be members of recognized trade associations such as the British Association of Removers (BAR). This ensures they meet specific industry standards. Moreover, ensure that the company offers insurance to cover the value of your belongings in case of any damage or loss during transit.
Customizable Services The best removal companies offer customizable services tailored to meet the specific needs of the customer. Whether you're moving a small flat or a large house, moving locally or abroad, or need additional services like packing and storage, flexibility is key. Some companies provide a full-service move where they do everything, from packing your items, transporting them, and unpacking at the new location.
Competitive Pricing Price is always a significant factor in selecting a removal company. The cheapest option isn’t always the best, but neither is the most expensive. Aim for competitive pricing by obtaining quotes from at least three different companies. Always check what’s included in the price: is it just transportation, or does it include packing, unpacking, and additional services? Some companies may charge extra for special items, so ensure you're clear on what the quoted price covers.
Specialized Services Many London-based removal companies offer specialized services for certain items like pianos, artwork, antiques, or fragile goods. If you have delicate or valuable belongings, it’s worth checking whether the company has experience in transporting these items. Specialized services often mean higher fees but could save you from significant damage and costly repairs.
Professionalism and Communication A good removal company will offer excellent customer service right from the first contact. Clear, open communication is key when organizing the logistics of your move. Whether it's through quick responses to emails, availability to answer questions, or offering advice on packing, a professional removal company makes you feel supported throughout the process. Additionally, the staff should be well-trained, courteous, and efficient on moving day.

Children Party Bouncy Castle Hire in UK Safety Tips For a Fun and Secure Bouncy Castle Experience
Tumblr media
When it comes to planning a memorable function or party, bouncy castle hire is a perfect choice for both kids and adults. These party rentals can keep guests entertained for hours. However, ensuring a safe and secure bouncy castle experience is crucial. In this blog post, we will provide you with essential safety tips to guarantee a fun-filled and worry-free time in your rented bouncy castle. Whether you’re considering a cheap bouncy castle for hire, or an indoor bouncy castle rental, these tips will apply to all types of inflatable rentals.
Choose a Reliable and Reputable Rental Provider
The first step to a safe bouncy castle experience starts with selecting a reliable and reputable bouncy castle hire service. Look for companies that specialize in inflatable rentals. Read customer reviews, check their safety certifications, and ensure they follow industry standards. By choosing a trusted rental provider, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’ll receive a well-maintained and safe bouncy castle.
Properly Set Up and Secure the Bouncy Castle
Once you have your inflatable party rental, it’s crucial to set it up correctly to ensure stability and safety. Follow the provided instructions or seek assistance from the rental company if needed. Place the bouncy castle on a flat, level surface away from any sharp objects or obstacles. Use secure anchor points, such as stakes or sandbags, to prevent them from tipping or shifting during use. If you’re renting an indoor bouncy castle, make sure it’s properly secured to the floor or wall as per the rental guidelines.
Establish and Enforce Safety Rules
To ensure a safe bouncy castle experience, it’s important to establish and enforce safety rules for all participants. Post visible signs near the entrance outlining the rules, such as:
Remove shoes, glasses, and sharp objects before entering the bouncy castle.
Avoid rough play, pushing, or overcrowding.
Prohibit climbing on the walls or netting.
Assign adult supervisors to oversee the bouncy castle and enforce the rules.
Monitor Weather Conditions
Weather conditions can impact the safety of the bouncy castle. Avoid setting up or using the inflatable rental during strong winds, thunderstorms, or other adverse weather conditions. Instead of this, you can ask for indoor bouncy castle hire to keep the party on in any weather condition. If you’re hosting an outdoor event, consider renting a gazebo or tent to provide shade and protection from light rain.
Hire the Right Bouncy Castle
When hiring a bouncy castle, it’s essential to consider the age groups and separate options for kids and adults. For the younger ones, choose a kid’s bouncy castle for hire specifically designed with safety features and an appropriate size. Adults can also enjoy the thrill by selecting the Adult Bouncy Castle hire service.
A fun and secure bouncy castle experience is achievable by following these essential safety tips. Whether you’re choosing a cheap bouncy castle for hire, or considering other inflatable rentals such as slides or soft play equipment, prioritize safety at all times. More Modern AU Headcanons (Ebenescence) (SFW & NSFW)
(SFW)
-After leaving New York, Constance works at a barista and moonlights as a scandalous waitress to make rent. Ebenezer is a private banker with connections to Lloyd’s of London in their insurance and reinsurance areas.
-Constance takes a sincere liking to Ebenezer, which is why she gives him his phone number one day. She has no idea of his wealth of status, which for Ebenezer, makes talking with her refreshing.
-The club she overnights at is seedy at best, and  after seeing how she and the others are treated, Ebenezer buys out the business to put the man out of business, but making sure the employees retain pay during the turnover. He keeps this secret from Constance, as he doesn’t want her to think she ‘owes’ him. He genuinely enjoys her company.
-Upon learning of his infamous status, Constance is stunned. She had always wanted to go into business, but after marrying her first husband Orin (at age 20) she hadn’t had a chance and had been thrown into the world of being a socialite. She has a million questions for him.
-Ebenezer is reluctant to discuss his work more at first, fearing for a moment that perhaps that is the reason she is interested. However, he discovers quickly that Constance is much more interested in things like stocks, bonds, and economical studies rather than actual money.
-This leads to fun conversations.
“I always used to dislike the holidays, you know.”
“Ah, Q4 is a stressful time.”
“Y-Yes. I mean, um...(chuckles) It is.”
“The holidays are stressful! Presents, dates, family gatherings, cold weather...I understand not looking forward to it, I do.”
OR
“When I was a little girl, my mom and dad would take me to get fresh chocolate and cinnamon donuts on Christmas, then we’d walk past Rockefeller Center and look at all the lights and trees across the city. It was so magical.”
“That...does sound brilliant.”
“Have you ever been?”
“To New York? In passing. A few layovers.”
“Hm. Let me know if you ever go. I know some good donut stops.”
(Laughs) “You’ll be the first to know.”
Tumblr media
-Their first date is dinner and dancing, complete with music and candlelight. The whole shebang. He drives them personally, as he feels uncomfortable with modern rideshare programs.
-Constance wears her hair in a ponytail often, and as they start dating, Eb likes to wind the hair around his hand like a rope and kiss it.
-Ebenezer wears Brioni suits and has a customized, one-of-a-kind Piaget watch that was a gift from a previous engagement.
-Ebenezer usually wears gloves in the winter, but when he holds Connie’s hands, he always removes them to feel her skin.
-They share their first kiss on their THIRD date, when he goes to drop her off after a Mozart symphony concert. They’re alone on the street in from of her modest flat, there’s a chill in the air, and his hand drifts down to her lower back as he makes sure she successfully unlocks her door. Once she does, she turns around and gets the courage to kiss his cheek. He gasps and, emboldened, turns his head to swoop in and catch her lips.
-After every date, Constance dances around her room and squeals into her pillows.
-Ebenezer does the same, chuckling and beaming like a crazy man until he’s home. When Prudence cocks her head, he grabs her by the paws and dances with her around the room. “I kissed her, Prudence! I did it! Oh, gods...it was perfect. So perfect. Haha!”
-While Ebenezer wears Brioni, Constance is partial to Dior and Hermes. Both of them detest Chanel.
-They both geek out over documentaries, and marathon them on rainy days.
-No matter how ‘dull’ or ‘boring’ an event is, whenever Ebenezer is invited to give a speech or present before a crowd, Constance is always smiling and claps at the end of every speech. Whenever he returns, she beams at him. “You did great! That was wonderful!”
-They get nicknamed ‘Adonis and Aphrodite’ by other elites, and the tabloids.
Tumblr media
NSFW - 18+ only from this point forward below cut
(NSFW)
-They talk about sex before they actually go to bed together for the first time. It becomes an elephant in the room, and when it comes up, Constance wants to know how he feels and if he’s interested in her in that way. When he says he is, he adds, “I-If you feel the same, then...I’d like to know more about what you like.”
-She reciprocates eagerly. “I...want to know what you like too. Likes. Dislikes. Boundaries.”
-This AMPS UP the sexual tension between them, and by the next date, they can barely keep their hands off each other. Unable to wait, Ebenezer gets them a room at the hotel attached to the nice restaurant they’re at.
-Once that door shuts, he tells her to relax and that he’ll be back. She takes a bubble bath in the huge tub, and when she comes out, Eb has ordered champagne and got the fireplace roaring.
- Still in a towel, she goes to him and kisses him hard and deep. That towel is gone quickly and she is thrown onto the bed. Minutes, later, clothes have been thrown all over the room.
- They have sex until almost sunrise, both oral and penetrative. The ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign is on the door for all of the following day, and all the meals ordered are room service.
-Ebenezer is a traditional romantic, and believes in giving her roses, teddy bears, jewelry and all the other romantic gifts. He enjoys taking her dancing and to the opera and ballet.
-The sex is passionate and LONG. Both switch positions often, but a favorite position is when she rides him, but he controls the pace from the bottom.
-They both discover each other’s slight BDSM bias when they visit an adult store together one night after a few cocktails. There is a lot of giggling and mental note-taking. Ebenezer purchased some leather handcuffs and remote-operated vibrator.
-The vibrator is especially useful. He enjoys taking her to coffee or for a show, then upping the speed from the remote in his pocket and watching her squirm and blush.
-Constance enjoys going on long walks with Ebenezer, and gets a secret thrill whenever she goes with him to his work.
-Being a former socialite, she has an impressive taste when it comes to clothing and accessories. Despite this, she is meticulous when it comes to going anywhere public with Eb, as she doesn’t want to ‘embarrass him’.
-Ebenezer steals Connie’s used panties from the laundry, and she has a habit of running his ties through her legs or masturbating in his work shirts.
-They are both post-sex cuddlers. They need to be spooning or hugging tightly after sex. No exceptions.

04x09 - Country Cousin
Burnside arrives at Kings Cross to collect a visiting DS Jarvis from Matlock. Jarvis' train is apparently delayed by half an hour. Frank buys himself a burger to fill time, but spots DS Jarvis before he can tuck in. (He can tell he's a copper without even speaking to him - I guess like can tell like!) He came in on an earlier train as he wanted to get his wife a present to take back. DS Jarvis is an uncultured country bumpkin and has no idea what Frank is on about when he tells him - using slang - that he has Jim and Mike waiting for them "in the vicinity of the house where your man is shacked up."
Taffy and Malcolm are called to an accident where a bus has crashed into building supplies with scaffolding poles having breached the front of the bus. Taffy cuts the engine of the bus before managing to force the doors open. The driver is badly injured and passengers are panicking to either be let out or shouting for help for other passengers. Upstairs is an elderly man who is out cold after falling from a standing position when the crash happened. He slowly comes round as Taffy directs a young lady to secure his head. An elderly lady is bleeding from a cut but seems otherwise alright. Downstairs Malcolm tries to keep the driver awake, calm and still as there are poles dangerously near his body.
Tom is driven to his hospital appointment by Viv. She tells him to look on the bright side as he'll soon be able to chase the girls again. He's arriving hours too early but Tom says he's looking forward to getting his teeth into some real police work "terrorising the public."
Taffy and Malcolm try to keep control of the passengers to find out what has happened. From the sounds of it, the driver didn't stop for the last few stops and may have suffered a medical episode whilst driving. They return back inside to help with the other injured passengers inside the bus.
Jarvis is unimpressed with London and how busy it is. Frank snarks that his suspect must have set fire to some straw bales. Finally, they pull up beside Jim and Mike who tell them the suspect is still inside. Mike and Jim take the back of the house whilst Frank and Jarvis take the front. Jarvis brings the gift for his wife with him(!) Mike and Jim find the back gate locked so try to climb over the wall...
Tumblr media
The dog is chained up so they inch towards the back door of the house. Frank and Jarvis see a man come to the front door but he walks away once he's realised they're police. Jarvis continually presses the doorbell and punches the suspect in the nose when he finally opens the door, claiming he needs to learn respect for the law. Frank pushes him back and warns him to leave it out.

A trauma doctor arrives to help the passengers as the driver is weakening before he can be cut out. Soon after his heart stops and Taffy and the fire brigade have to act to quickly get him laid flat so the doctor can perform CPR. With the driver flat they also take the opportunity to remove him from the bus to be able to help him properly.
Viv wishes Tom good luck as she pulls outside the force doctors but he doesn't move. "If I'm not a copper I'm a nobody..." he worries. Viv tells him there's nothing wrong with him and urges him to go inside.
Taffy, Malcolm and the firemen help get the driver into the back of the ambulance once his heart has been restarted. The manager of the bus company tells them that the driver has no known history of illness and has been with them for 7 years. Taffy tries to get him to contact next of kin but he complains bus drivers are in short supply and that he's going to have to get someone else to drive the route.

Mike and Jim take the suspect to the station with Frank marching Jarvis to his car. "You think you're a bit of a hard nut don't you!" Jarvis told his wife he'd be back in time for supper so he didn't want to prolong things! Frank is not impressed. "No copper comes onto my manor and starts GBH'ing suspects in front of me." Frank decides he's going to give him a special welcome and drives him to a dark and seedy strip club. Jarvis is amazed and can't take his eyes from the women inside. In the gift bag is something 'personal' and he's still carrying it around with him. He catches Frank trying to nose.
Frank has to return to the station so leaves Mike to watch Jarvis. The owner tries to charge Mike £18 for a single brandy 'with entertainment thrown in'. Mike refuses and the owner offers to 'work out a discount'. Mike tells him he might be Burnsides 'great mate' but he's a ponce to him and suggests his 'discount' includes not being nicked for living off immoral earnings. Unfortunately, as Mike turns around, Jarvis has gone walkies and is nowhere to be seen. Mike drives off to try to find him.
Taffy and Malcolm follow the stretcher into the hospital, covered in the bus driver's blood. They share a drink until the driver's wife arrives. Mrs Williams denies her husband is on drugs and explains that he's epileptic. He purposely didn't declare it so he could keep his job. He's knowingly committed an offense. Mrs Williams is taken away by the doctor to see her husband.
Tom sits in the doctor's, eyeing over the other injured and sick officers gathered around him, all wanting to be signed back to work. He has a medical and is assessed by the doctor who gives him no clues either way. It'll be a month until he knows for sure.
Jarvis has finally made a reappearance. He's angrily thrown out of the strip club by the manager and what looks like a brothel madam. He fights to go back inside and brawls with the security. Mike hears the call come over the radio and turns back to try to get there before any other officers do. Viv answers the call officially with Tom who gets a bit of a spark back in himself at the thought of being the first on the scene. They separate the fighting group and try to find out what happened. Jarvis tells Mike that they'd tried to bill him for £120. "A carrot cruncher I may be. A fool with me money? Never."
Jarvis calls his wife to tell her that he might not be home that night because he's having to go 'undercover for the MET'. He insists it was his cover story for the black eye he received. Frank wants him gone on the next train but Tom insists he can't as they're charging the bouncer and club owner with assault on him, for running a brothel and for procuring underage girls for prostitution. Tom is even more amused when he realises that the owner is a friend of Frank's.
Frank finally gets rid of him with his prisoner and tells him to send someone else next time 'his lot needs some help.' He still doesn't get to look in the gift bag after all that!

Amid a fairly flat European market, Giant Ventures raises $250M to invest transatlantically
Tumblr media
Giant Ventures, a UK-based VC that has made a habit of investing on both sides of the Atlantic, is launching two new funds, totalling $250 million. It’s previous fund had totalled $100 million.
The firm invests across climate, health, and what it calls ‘purpose-driven’ startups and some used to call ‘impact’ or ‘mission-driven’.

Whatever the case, the raise consists of a new $100 million seed fund which will aim to back around 25 early-stage companies, while a $150 million climate-focused growth fund will aim at Series B companies. The firms says it’s made 10 investments so far from the two funds.
Prior to this, Giant had invested in mental health app Calm, carbon removal platform Agreena, British energy storage startup Field (which has raised $300 million), and health industry startup Doccla.
Part of Giant’s main “pitch” to startups, if you will, is that it is led by former founders and operators in a European ecosystem where 92% of European venture capitalists have never worked at a startup. The firm is led by Cameron McLain, an exited founder, and Tommy Stadlen, co-founder of Swing Technologies (acquired by Microsoft).
Admittedly that has begun to change in recent years with the appearance of new funds such as Plural,  https://techcrunch.com/2024/01/22/plural-the-vc-led-by-founders-pulls-together-a-new-432m-fund-to-back-european-startups  which is helmed by exited founders from Wise, Songkick, and others.  Plural recently raised a fresh €400 million fund
Over a call, Stadlen told me: “Half of this capital is going into European companies, including the UK, and then half of it is going into the US companies. So we’re fully transatlantic. we’ve got people in London, where the headquarters is, but also we have folks in Copenhagen, Stockholm, New York, and California.”
Advisory board members include former BP CEO Lord Browne, former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, and 23andme founder Linda Avey.
Giant’s LPs include BMW, Henkel, RIT Capital Partners, clients of Cambridge Associates, Stepstone, Denmark’s sovereign investment fund, The Nature Conservancy (US), and Sir Richard Branson.
The news is not unwelcome in an environment where Britain has consistently ranked near the bottom of the G7 in recent years for all sources of private investment in the economy.
Although several UK VC’s signed up to a scheme to boost investment in startups last year, this will undoubtedly take a while to filter through the ecosystem.
VC in Europe has been hit by a weak economy, and has been mostly flat ove the last two years. Startup investment slumped in 2023 to $45 billion.
Meanwhile, North American Investors are retrenching, with Omers and Coatue, downgrading their activity.
