Foo Fighters
Hampden Park, Glasgow 17.06.24
Certainly and expectedly the most emotional concert I've ever been to for so many reasons (crying/welling up well into the double digits throughout 😂)
Got spooky for me too the times Josh sounded like Taylor but was blocked by the crowd and my mind's eye was just filling in the blanks with memory 🫠🙃
Important notes:
(woke up with a really sore lower back for no reason the day before which hadn't eased, but tbh - standing for hours on end aside - my subdued movements matched the expected overall vibe of tentatively sombre initially meets let's go fucking mental when the mood takes us! Lots of first timers in the crowd too so a bubbling sense of the unknown pervaded ✨ surrounded by almost entirely good sorts including a wildcard wee lady who appeared out of nowhere when the music started, ready to thrash so hard her hair got my eyeball and mouth at one point 😂 the most polite vibe tall guy I've ever come across at a gig and the most hilariously polite off-their-nuts group excusing themselves to go to and from mosh pit area, one had a comedy large backpack which I reckon he needed as a travelling apothecary)
• Rami aced his intro again by playing Flower of Scotland - it's an easy win that is always going to work 😂 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
• At this performance Josh's t-shirt read
"God gave rock and roll to you Satan wants it back"
• And couldn't quite get a pic that captures it properly but Rami had a lil guy with a hat labelled executive potato I think 🤷😂🥔💗 (Very last image)
Tumblr media
ICYMI - didn't notice this detail during the concert, found out after, but for a brief moment during My Hero the headlight of the big red delicious turned to projecting a hawk 🥲 - had one accidental photo of it which I've made more obvious. Proper video link from Foo Fighters live below
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8frGS0SCIy/?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Treated to a walkway performance of Skin and Bones (written in Scotland during a T in the Park turns out!), Under You (Dave still didn't quite manage through this time but keeps trying! 🥲) and Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners!! (and he shared he only later discovered the trapped miners requested an iPod of Foo Fighters not cos they were big fans but cos they wanted something to drown out the drilling 🤣) (and we found the German man at the front of the queue got to! 😂🙌 Like a Euros exchange programme)
Tumblr media
Violet Grohl came out for her tour debut to sing Show Me How, such a pretty voice 💜
Tumblr media
Aurora dedicated to Taylor 🥹😭
Tumblr media
Dave swigging some Buckfast - had no concept of what it was when a photo went viral a while back so became an accidental, begrudging spokesmodel - thinks it's actually not that bad 😂
Tumblr media
The Teacher visuals were beautiful, emotional, psychedelic and felt like they crossed realms which... was a lot 🙃
Tumblr media
Have literally never seen Nate look so buzzing as coming up for this bow 👏 🙌 the chill had set in so Pat got a hoodie on and was milking his exit 💗 thrown sticks and picks landed nearby, quickly snatched up but not by us
Sooo, we realised we practically filmed the whole concert between us - a great distraction attempt from crying 😂 so have put a playlist up for posterity... swithering about going through the digital camera archives and filing in the gaps in my upload history, but that's so far down the current to do list it's unreal (would've been unstoppable if I'd got a smartphone years ago at concerts, lol)
Supported by Honey Blood and Courtney Barnett

Foo Fighters - No Son of Mine
“This is the kind of song that just resides in all of us and if it makes sense at the time, we let it out,” Dave Grohl said of the track in a statement, “Lyrically it’s meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against…”

Tagged by @sophiathecute (sorry for not adding to the reblog chain, the post was REALLY long haha)
Favourite color: A dark wine red but I like orange a lot too
Relationship status: Single
Song stuck in my head: I almost never get songs stuck in my head but No Son of Mine by Foo Fighters just came on
Last thing I listened to: Love Dies Young - Foo Fighters (I've got a "best of" playlist on lol)
Last thing I googled: "Jeremy pearl jam lyrics." It's sad. Don't recommend it. (suicide, public shooting)
Favorite food: Right, so. Sometimes my dad makes these like 1" thick juicy steaks for special occasions and they're so thick sawing through them with a knife's like trying to saw through jiggly leather. It's impossible. I pick it up and eat it with my hands. Runner up: Sweet potato burrito covered in ultra spicy habanero salsa from the local place. Ate a grilled mourning dove once that was so good it reverted my brain to a caveman state of mind. Used my hands for that too. Not sure how else you were supposed to eat it.
Anything I want rn: $100
Tag mutuals: @jack-owo-valentine @nottoxicfr Uh I guess anyone else that wants to fill this out. No obligation to either way

Foo Fighters at Boston Calling 5/26/23
I was trying to remember the last time I saw the Foos live and I think it was that DC festival they put on when Dave was still on his motorized throne. This was only their second show since Taylor's passing so was expecting some emotion and we definitely got that.
Foo Fighters
Boston Calling
Harvard Athletic Complex
5/26/23
Rescued
Walk
No Son of Mine
Learn to Fly
This Is a Call
Times Like These
Under You
The Pretender
The Sky Is a Neighborhood
Breakout
My Hero
All My Life
Shame Shame
Rope
Cold Day in the Sun
I'll Stick Around
Best of You
Monkey Wrench
Aurora
Everlong
First off, yes to Josh Freese as the new drummer. No one's replacing Taylor but Josh is well loved in the Foos circle (and NINnies will forever love him from his NIN run.) This set list was inspired and really brought a lot of Dave's emotion to the forefront. Having Violet (his daughter) come out for "Shame Shame" and "Rope" was fantastic. More Violet please! Also having Shane (Taylor's son) on drums for "I'll Stick Around" is something you love to see. I'm glad they are out there doing the thing even without Taylor. Let's call this Foos version 2 and enjoy the ride!

INDIE 5-0: 5 Q's WITH SIREN
Tumblr media
Introducing South Florida band Siren. Since their original formation in the 80’s, Siren have re-defined and re-imagined their progressive rock sound over the years building a strong and dedicated fan base.
Lead singer and songwriter Rob Phillips has been the consistent centerpiece of the group since the beginning and, along with drummer and engineer Mike Cupino, the band is embarking on their biggest success to date.
Their third album, “Beyond The Rainbow”, was released in 2021 and was met with positive praise and critical acclaim with press, radio and video placements.
Blending elements of classic progressive hard rock, to glimpses of metal and blues, the 9 track album had familiar elements reminiscent of Foo Fighters meets Led Zeppelin.
With the success of "Beyond The Rainbow", Siren jumped back into writing songs again for their next album.
Rob and Mike soon discovered a sound evolving into more of a middle America roots rock direction. These newer songs started to evolve into stories and memories of their everyday experiences of growing up.
Siren started recording the new songs in Atlanta’s Madison Studios, and soon after released their first single “February Son,” which is about Phillip’s personal experience with the Fentanyl crisis”
“It was a dedication to Reese Puckett, a family member of mine who unfortunately passed away at the early age of only twenty, from fentanyl.”
Recently, Siren released their latest single “Small Town,” which is the title track to their upcoming album. The single captures a special moment in time of growing up in a small town and experiencing life’s innocence.
“I was just tooling around on my acoustic and started reflecting about growing up in my home town of Brandon Florida,” says Phillips. “It was a very carefree time where it felt safe and everyone knew each other. My friends and I cherished exploring the town on our bikes, hanging out at the lake, and discovering new secret places. It’s a song that’s very relatable, and therefore wanted to blend a little bit of all genres for the instrumentation.”
As recording sessions commenced at Madison Studio, an electric energy filled the air, signaling to the band that they were crafting something truly special.
Video Director Isaac Dietz was behind the music video the song which capture the essence of “Small Town” across various locations in both Georgia and Florida.
We caught up with Siren to find out more about their passion for music, and what fans can look forward to next:
Your sound has been described as a fusion of melodic Rock, Progressive, and Blue. How do you go about blending these genres while still maintaining a cohesive sound that is uniquely SIREN?
We have always experimented with different genres from the beginning, the songwriting partnership of Mike and I has been the foundation of our style. I am the voice / storyteller and Mike is the heartbeat of our music. I believe that is what makes Siren unique.
“Small Town” captures the essence of growing up in a small town, reflecting on the innocence and simplicity of life during those times. What inspired you to delve into this theme, and how does it resonate with your personal experiences?
"Small Town" is about growing up in a much simpler time, before cell phones and social media. A time when people explored the world with friends and the experiences became shared memories and not Facetime or selfies.
I grew up in Brandon, Florida, and it was a great time to grow up in those days, as it had a very small town feel.
Tumblr media
Your upcoming album seems to be taking a different direction compared to previous work, focusing on more middle America roots rock. What prompted this shift in sound?
We feel that after three albums trying to find our sound we finally found what we were looking for on this fourth album.
It started with a new session guitarist Tanner Herndon and the song "Dead Beggar." We scraped two years of work and headed in a new direction. We also added a back-up vocalist, Beth Cohen. Both players have very impressive resumes and fit seamlessly into the new material.
The video for “Small Town” was shot in several locations in Georgia and Florida. How did you go about selecting these locations, and what was the creative process in bringing the song’s essence to life visually?
The video was shot in two different locations. The band was shot in Florida in Coral Springs where I live, and the kids and their older counterparts were filmed in Georgia.
The shots in Georgia were at multiple locations that had a 70's vibe to create a timepiece of that era. The entire process took a couple of months to complete. We worked with video direction Isaac Dietz who is a very creative talent, and a pleasure to work with.
He was able to fully capture the vibe of the song beautifully, and we are already working on two more videos that should be completed in a couple of months.
With the full album set to release in the summer of 2024, what can fans expect from the new album and how does it compare to previous releases?
We believe our fans will be very pleased with the new album. It is our best work to date. I always say this is the best song we have written until the next one!
Watch the "Small Town" video here:

Keep up to date with Siren on their Website.
Stream music on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

…so here’s my FF7 fanmix. It’s an eternal work in progress, but this is the most stable incarnation before Rebirth hits and gives me new ideas. A few of these songs have been on my list basically since the original ff7 came out. I’m pretty happy with most of it—Yuffie and Red need work, Barret, Aerith, and Cid need more songs, and although I like the narrative I constructed with Vincent’s songs the tone is all over the place, but conversely I adore the Tifa section. I just figured I’d finally share what I have, see if anybody out there had any bright ideas, and let other people see if they like mine.
These are based on the OG, with Remake providing lots of inspiration. There will be spoilers for anybody unfamiliar with the OG, more than just The One Spoiler everybody knows, some vaguer than others.
Cloud
Bullet With Butterfly Wings by Karen O (I know this is cheating but it’s such a good song for him!)
Seven Nation Army by Seven Nation Army
Break Out by Foo Fighters
Best Imitation of Myself by Ben Folds Five
When She Was Bad by Buffering the Vampire Slayer
Hollow by Yosh (also cheating, but too good not to use)
Who Are You, Really? by Mikky Ekko
All These Things That I’ve Done by The Killers (I think this is a pretty popular song for Cloud fanmixes)
Still by Ben Folds
Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse
Invincible by OK Go
Barret
We Will Rock You by Queen
Uprising by Muse
Still Swingin by Papa Roach
Ready Aim Fire by Imagine Dragons
Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows
Angel Down (Work Tape) by Lady Gaga
Tifa
All the King’s Horses by Kamina
That Distant Shore by Rebecca Sugar
It Takes All Kinds by Aimee Mann
Breaking Up Girl by Garbage
Hush by Buffering the Vampire Slayer
Losing My Religion by R.E.M.
How Not To Drown by CHVRCHES & Robert Smith
Back to the Start by Mr Little Jeans
Shake It Out by Florence + the Machine
Dogs Days Are Over by Florence + the Machine
Braver Than We Are from Dance of the Vampires (look… just listen to this song if you can find it and try and tell me not to include it. I had to!)
Aerith
We Are by Ana Johnson
Somewhere Over the Black Parade by Zoe Zoller (so… this is a mashup of Welcome to the Black Parade and Somewhere Over the Rainbow from an amateur theater production. It’s amazing and absolutely perfect for Aerith, but you will not be able to find it and I don’t know if it is okay for me to share it. Just FYI.)
On My Own by Peach Union
Stand My Ground by Within Temptation
Never Let Me Go by Florence + the Machine
Nanaki
(I have really struggled to find songs for him over the years; these are fine but I think he needs more)
Dirty Paws by Of Monsters and Men
Run Boy Run by Woodkid
Babylon by Barns Courtney
Blood Like Lemonade by Morcheeba
Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons
Heartlines by Florence + the Machine
Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
Twisted Logic by Coldplay
Yuffie
(I was a bit inspired by Intermission, but she still needs a lot of work)
Just a Girl by No Doubt
Something That I Want by Grace Potter
Mutiny, I Promise You by The New Pornographers
Boomerang by Lucy Schwartz
A Little Less Conversation by Elvis Presley (cover from Megamind)
Opportunities by Pet Shop Boys
The Future by Mystery Skulls
Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man
Reeve
(Cait Sith has a separate section below, although my view is that they are both Reeve)
Road to Joy by Bright Eyes
The Logical Song by Supertramp
Natural by Imagine Dragons
Scapegoat by Chumbawamba (one of the songs I put on here in the 90s before I understood what it was about, and now it reminds me of him even if it doesn’t totally work)
So Called Chaos by Alanis Morisette
Mowgli’s Road by Marina and the Diamonds
LIES GREED MISERY by Linkin Park (my Angry Reeve song!)
Diminishing Returns by Harvey Danger
Consequences by Buffering the Vampire Slayer (thinking about removing this one)
Cait Sith
(I think he’s basically the same person as Reeve, but he does have different vibes which requires different songs. Could use some ideas; these were just fun to give him and may not be as apt as they should be. I’m hoping Rebirth will give me inspiration.)
I Am Not A Robot by Marina and the Diamonds (recently added, may need a new position or something)
The Check’s In the Mail by Weird Al
Heist by Ben Folds
Win Or Lose by Foo Fighters
Vincent
(he is a bit of a mess; I struggled to find good songs for him and am constantly adding a bunch and removing a bunch. I think what I have is okay, and I do like the narrative I constructed here, but the tone is all over the place and I really don’t have any Perfect songs for him.)
Hopelessly Devoted to You by Kristin Chenowith (yeah, the Pushing Daisies version because I have it. I could really use a darker cover for him.)
Back to Black by Amy Winehouse
Gaeta’s Lament by Bear McCreary
The Abandoned Castle of My Soul by The Gothic Archies
Parades Go By by The Magnetic Fields
Some Kind of Monster by Neon Trees
Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace

Let It Go (Epic Metal Cover) by Connor Engstrom
Wild by Poe
Holding Out For a Hero by Nothing But Thieves
Apocalypse Please by Muse
Hellbent by Mystery Skulls
And So It Went by The Pretty Reckless
I Just Wanna Be God by Alice Cooper
Zack
(his songs are kind of a mixed bag, although the last two are great. I hope to get inspired by Rebirth.)
Bud Like You by AJR
Shake It Off by Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox
Battle Cry by Ludo
Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Soldier by Tommie Lee Profitt & Fluerie
The Turks
Come On Come On by Smash Mouth
Ballroom Blitz by Sweet
Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant
Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by They Might Be Giants
…plus the odd song or two for other characters or general purposes that I’m really not sure about.
I probably should have tried making a Spotify playlist to share or something, but to be fair I hate Spotify.
