"Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future."⁣ ⁣ As individual, as chef, as representative of Slow Food in Toronto, as graduated in sustainable tourism today is the day to celebrate the people who produce, plant, harvest, fish or transport our food and call on the public to thank these #FoodHeroes who, no matter the circumstances, continue to provide food to their communities and beyond - helping to grow, nourish and sustain our world.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #foodwordoftheday #worldfoodday2020 #worldfooddaycanada #cheflife #supportlocalfarmers #supprtsustainablebusinesses #sustainable #sustainabletourism #farmerslife #slowfood #slowfoodto #grownourishsustain #torontofood #torontosustainable #chefforlife #ecofood #foodequality #foodforall (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGZ2KdbnlbC/?igshid=1f1eh6phzkazf

My students depend on food stamps to be fed and not starve. Elderly people depend on food stamps. Young people depend on food stamps. Veterans depend on food stamps. Parents, grandparents, so many people who fall under low income depend on food stamps. It’s absolutely disgusting to cause suffering to people. I’m so done with the greed of the wealthy few. The excuses, stereotypes, and prejudices of people who are poor and struggling. I barely make anything at my job, but I love my kids, so I make sure I buy them Christmas trinkets, stickers, cool pencils, valentine candy, books, snacks if they’re hungry, etc. because they need support and kindness, nurturing. My students are my babies as anyone should see them even though they’re not our flesh and blood, they are our fellow humans and it’s our job to work as a community to lift each other up, not crush someone or belittle them. . . . #foodstamps #snap #savefoodstamps #humanrights #powertothepeople #feedourkids #kidsmatter #peoplematter #takecare #bekind #foodequality #foodforall https://www.instagram.com/p/B0SHHZhFjgY/?igshid=8cdvfebm6jav

OMG… I can’t believe that I finally submitted my application for graduation! 🤗 When I wrote my first master’s thesis I was pregnant and when I graduated with my Masters in Sustainable Development I had my 3 week old newborn in my hand. At the time, it was my biggest accomplishment. I must say though that going to grad school in your 20s is very different than going in your 40s. My brain is definitely not as fast. 😂 Plus, this time around I attend part-time, online, and with a teenager who (contrary to what one might think) commands a lot more attention than a newborn. 🤣 During this program, I lost a parent, the pandemic happened, and I suffered a mental health crisis. Not to mention, I had a serious financial hurdle to climb after all my overseas contracts disappeared (due to said pandemic). However I’m overjoyed to say, I can see the finish line and soon I’ll be adding Masters of Public Health to my list of credentials. This has definitely been one of the hardest things I’ve done so far. I’m soooo excited!!! 🥳 The goal is to marry my passion for #nutrition and #food equity with my current work in #sustainable foods and #agribusiness. 🙌🏾 #publichealth #globalhealth #womenshealth #agriculture #globalfoodsystems #sustainablefoodsystems #foodequity #foodapartheid #foodsecurity (at The George Washington University) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcyYHRNrL3K/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Repost from @thefoodsystemsnutritionist • What are FPCs? What is a Food Hub? I shared a poll earlier in my stories for #hamptonroads friends, but I figured maybe I should list definitions on what exactly these concepts entail. If you are interested in starting a working group in this area, PLEASE, answer my polls, DM me your email addresses, and share widely so we can get a these conversations started. If you are not in my local area, do you have a FPC or Food Hub near you? What are your thoughts about them? What works well, what doesn’t work well? #thefsnutritionist . . . . . #foodhub #sustainablefoodsystems #healthequity #foodequity #antihunger #supplychain #regionalfoodsystems #localfoodsystems #weightinclusive #foodjustice #foodsystems #foodpolicycouncil #circulareconomy #rd2be #dietiansofinstagram #virginiabeach #norfolk #communitycare #foodforall #foodpolicycouncil #foodpolicy #civileats https://www.instagram.com/p/CLTKk1hlU6P7zlU1HvP0JxrMRpuecx_j-Ky76A0/?igshid=1f5obh0ysya6
